District 7, one of Boston's 9 city districts, was the most competitive race in September's preliminary election. Eleven candidates fought to represent the district and to replace former District 7 City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson, who resigned after pleading guilty to federal corruption charges. One of the two candidates hoping to win the job will address the district's top ongoing concerns: affordable housing, economic development and public safety. With just days to go before the November election, we're taking a closer look at District 7's political past and present history with people who know it well.
Episode began streaming on October 20, 2025 at 10am2025 marks 50 years since the HSRC's history center museum's cornerstone was laid, following years of work led by John Zehner. Zehner, president of the HSRC from 1954-1978, is widely recognized as the driving force behind the historical society's success in the mid 20th century. On this episode, Russell Woolley, a lifelong Rocklander shared memories of working with Zehner in the early 1970s in the historic Anglo-Dutch Blauvelt Barn. Russell Woolley is President and Broker Owner of Wright Bros. Real Estate. He has resided in Rockland County throughout his life and is presently based in Upper Nyack. He has worked with clients over an extended period and has participated in community activities through service and philanthropy. John Zehner was a civil engineer by profession. He played a pivotal role in the establishment and leadership of the Historical Society of Rockland County. His contributions significantly expanded the society's membership and led to the establishment of a permanent museum building, thereby preserving local history for future generations.Mr. Zehner became affiliated with the historical society in the 1960s when he was appointed as the librarian responsible for managing its book collection. Mr. Zehner had a deep knowledge and enduring interest in local and American history, which led him to the most important and long-standing volunteer commitment of his life.Under Mr. Under Zehner's leadership, the society purchased the Jacob Blauvelt Homestead in 1970 as a permanent headquarters. Then, he led the society in planning and building a fireproof museum in 1977. During his presidency from 1954 to 1978, the society's membership grew to over 1850, making it one of the most successful in the tri-state rural area.Mr. Zehner authored texts on local history, including a 1995 book on Benedict Arnold's attempted betrayal, and supported numerous publications and historical markers. Even after retiring as president, he remained active as a trustee and committee member, continuing to contribute ideas and support until shortly before his death in 1996.www.RocklahdHistory.orgCrossroads of Rockland History, a program of the Historical Society of Rockland County, starts streaming new episodes on the third Monday of each month at 10am. What if the only thing standing between you and peace is your need for control? In this episode, we sit down with Alicia Moreland, a military spouse who has moved from state to state every few years, all while wrestling with uncertainty, identity, and the desire to have it all figured out. Now, in another season of transition without a clear destination, Alicia shares how she's learning to release control, embrace flexibility, and trust that peace can exist even when the plan doesn't. Alicia's journey is a reminder that sometimes happiness isn't found in having more, but in needing less. In this episode you'll hear about: maintaining your sense of identity through big life changes, the urge to control and the discomfort of not knowing, what it's like to move every few years, finding peace in letting go of the plan, the beauty of flexibility and fluidity, life's layers and learning to sit with the unknown, and letting go of what's holding you back (especially when it's you). At the end of the episode, we reframe Alicia's limiting belief that “You can't find peace in uncertainty” into something that supports her evolving, empowered reality. Stay tuned through the end to shift your mindset too. Connect With Us! @aliciaelevates @lauren.e.will @ipwomanpodcast www.ipwomanpodcast.com

Meanwhile, some neighborhoods like New City have seen growth, but overall, the city continues to struggle.
The city flag of Overland Park has long been considered among the worst in the nation. A new flag set to be adopted next month, with its tree motif and green and white color palette, is much more effective, according to the North American Vexillological Association.

In this episode, I'm joined by my friend and attorney Paisley Piasecki — and y'all, this conversation is such a special one. We're talking all about writing new chapters, navigating big transitions, and what it really looks like to build a life (and community) from scratch in a brand new city. Paisley shares her journey of leaving a high-powered law career in NYC, moving to Savannah, and founding the now-thriving networking group Square 25. We talk about following your gut, creating space to think, and the underrated power of finding your favorite coffee shop when you're starting over. Whether you're in a season of change or dreaming about one, I think this episode will leave you feeling encouraged, seen, and maybe even a little braver. Here's what we cover: What to do in your first month in a new city The real reason she walked away from her “dream job” in NYC The power of journaling + getting granular when designing your next chapter How Square 25 grew into a creative hub for young professionals in Savannah Redefining what work-life balance actually looks like This one is full of heart, honesty, and real-life inspiration. Let's dive in. About Your Brand of Beautiful Host, Bailie White: Bailie White is a motivational speaker with nearly 10 years of entrepreneurial experience and a heart for serving, motivating, and encouraging women. After starting and scaling her first business — a luxury travel agency with a team of 15 women, a celebrity clientele, and multi-millions of dollars in annual sales — she sold the business after realizing what she once thought was her dream didn't fully align with the woman she wanted to become. Today, Bailie is the host of the Your Brand of Beautiful Podcast (debuting on Apple's Top Charts) and a published author and speaker. Bailie facilitates workshops and delivers keynote speeches to college women, young professionals, and mamapreneurs. A Perpetual Covenant of Peace for all the Gentiles together with the Jew under Christ! This chapter speaks of the glorious New City and how Jesus will be our Husband, protector, and defender, showing us His kindness, peace and Mercy forever...oh yeah...in a city who's foundations are all precious stones like Sapphires, Rubies, and crystal!! I'm ready for that- how about you? If you are blessed by today's Bible study, please support my channel by liking, subscribing, commenting, and sharing with your friends and family! I am not a Pastor, and agree with God's word that women are not supposed to be Pastors. However, all people are called to share the gospel. It is perfectly acceptable and Biblical for women to lead Bibles studies outside the church as an ancillary addition to the church, and especially if it is a viable avenue for study of the Word on a daily basis, like I'm doing on this show, and paving the way for all of us to be closer to the Lord and become more knowledgeable of the Bible. If you care to contribute to my work with the Daily Bible study and sharing the Gospel, as part of your tithes and offerings, you can do so through PayPal by sending it to my PayPal address of: ReneHoladay@gmail.com Thank you for watching and God Bless you all! ;() --------------------- The primary study bible that Rene' uses is the 'Spirit-filled Life Bible, by Jack Hayford, and is available in hard cover or faux leather on Amazon at: https://amzn.to/434fBnQ You can watch this episode on Youtube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v9ekffu7ds Please be sure to LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, COMMENT, and SHARE!

While you may know the Brooklyn Museum for its wildly popular cutting-edge exhibitions, the borough's premier art institution can actually trace its origins back to a more rustic era -- and to the birth of the city of Brooklyn itself. On July 4, 1825, the growing village laid a cornerstone for its new Brooklyn Apprentices Library, an educational institution to support its young "clerks, journeymen and apprentices." This was a momentous occasion in the history of Brooklyn, a ceremony overseen by the Marquis de Lafayette and observed by a young boy named Walt Whitman. The library was part of a movement -- started a century before by Benjamin Franklin-- to make knowledge readily available within the young country. The Brooklyn Museum's celebratory new exhibition Breaking the Mold: Brooklyn Museum at 200 looks back at its storied origins and eventual growth, encompassing most of the young city's cultural institutions and soon expanding into a monumental new home next to the new Prospect Park, designed by McKim, Mead and White.Abigail Dansiger, the Director of Libraries and Archives, and Meghan Bill, the Coordinator of Provenance, join Greg on this week's show to explain the unusual origins of the Brooklyn Museum and the unique philosophies which inform its exhibitions.PLUS: A couple genuine mysteries lurk within the new exhibition, including a bottle-shaped niche within the cornerstone and an Egyptologist's unencrypted notebook. This episode was edited by Kieran Gannon
