David actually trained as a botanist, and one of his shirt designs was inspired by his experience working on the Kalaupapa peninsula with the hō‘awa plant. Republican candidate for State Senate, David Shepard, announced he requested a recount in all four counties in District 16. Shepard made the announcement after certification of the results with just a 20-vote margin out of over 136,000 votes cast.
