The Good Shepard (Psalm 23:1-6) Joshua Eby
2026-05-03: Not every voice that leads you actually cares for you. Jesus draws a sharp line between the good shepherd, the hired hand, and the wolf—and the difference shows when things get hard. The hired hand protects himself, the wolf takes what isn't his, but the good shepherd stays, defends, and lays down his life for the sheep. This week, we look at the 4th “I am” statement of Jesus, and consider its implications for our lives.

Shepherding a Healthier Future for Pets — A Conversation with Shepherd Boy Farms CEO Ashton HoodWhen passion for animals meets generations of farm-bred expertise, something remarkable happens. That's exactly the story behind Shepherd Boy Farms — and in my latest episode of The Travel Wins, I sit down with the company's CEO, Ashton Hood, to explore how a Midwest family farm transformed itself into one of the most trusted names in premium pet nutrition. What started as a leading American meat supplier has evolved into a mission-driven brand redefining how we nourish our four-legged family members. Ashton shares how Shepherd Boy Farms recognized a massive gap in the global pet-food industry and stepped in with a simple, powerful promise: whole ingredients, honest processing, and farm-to-bowl integrity.Their Indiana farm now processes and packages top-quality pet products made with real beef, garden-fresh veggies, and natural fruits, offering dogs and cats around the world the kind of nutrition you'd expect from a company that has been doing things the right way for decades.
“12:35. Let your loins be girt and lamps burning in your hands. “12:36. And you yourselves like to men who wait for their lord, when heshall return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, theymay open to him immediately.12:37. Blessed are those servants whom the Lord, when he cometh, shallfind watching. Amen I say to you that he will gird himself and makethem sit down to meat and passing will minister unto them.12:38. And if he shall come in the second watch or come in the thirdwatch and find them so, blessed are those servants.12:39. But this know ye, that if the householder did know at what hourthe thief would come, he would surely watch and would not suffer hishouse to be broken open.12:40. Be you then also ready: for at what hour you think not the Sonof man will come.”Excerpt fromThe Bible, Douay-Rheims, CompleteAnonymoushttps://books.apple.com/us/book/the-bible-douay-rheims-complete/id955129088This material may be protected by copyright.John Eudes was a zealous preacher, of missions in French towns and villages, and was equally zealous in the confessional. In 1643, he founded the Congregation of Jesus and Mary, called the Eudists, an institute combining the work of parochial missions, with that of training and reform of the clergy; and a year later the Congregation of Sisters of the Good Shepard. In his widely read writings, he was first to urge public devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

John 10:22-30Speaker: Dr. Kevin Huddleston
11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep.Ego sum pastor bonus. Bonus pastor animam suam dat pro ovibus suis. 12 But the hireling, and he that is not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and flieth: and the wolf catcheth, and scattereth the sheep:Mercenarius autem, et qui non est pastor, cujus non sunt oves propriae, videt lupum venientem, et dimittit oves, et fugit : et lupus rapit, et dispergit oves; 13 And the hireling flieth, because he is a hireling: and he hath no care for the sheep.mercenarius autem fugit, quia mercenarius est, et non pertinet ad eum de ovibus. 14 I am the good shepherd; and I know mine, and mine know me.Ego sum pastor bonus : et cognosco meas, et cognoscunt me meae. 15 As the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father: and I lay down my life for my sheep.Sicut novit me Pater, et ego agnosco Patrem : et animam meam pono pro ovibus meis. 16 And other sheep I have, that are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.Et alias oves habeo, quae non sunt ex hoc ovili : et illas oportet me adducere, et vocem meam audient, et fiet unum ovile et unus pastor. This Sunday is often called Good Shepard Sunday; the Gospel tells us of the Good Shepard. Jesus is indeed the Good Shepard of our souls. He came to give His life for us.
