Tobin couldn't help himself for much longer as he was excited to report that Jovic gave Wemby the “business” during the Serbia vs. France friendly yesterday! We kick off this Wednesday with a little Marlins talk after they dropped another game to the Phillies last night and if they will be able to avoid the sweep tonight with Sandy on the Hill. Tobin for what feels like the 100th time tries to get us all invested in Eurobasket as Serbia and France are set for a friendly tomorrow afternoon!
Tobin shares some audio from Mario Cristobal's media availability and the no nonsense from that group is giving us GOOSIES! In Tobin's continued efforts to get us to care about Eurobasket friendly's we get a sneak peak of what Nikola Jovic's mom thinks about the whole thing. We then play our favorite Wednesday game Rats Off A Ship! Where we discuss college drug rings, Marlins, and ugly pugs!
As the Lakers keep selling stakes Tobin wonders about the shady business that goes on in sports! The gang debates if Dolphin fans are petty enough to boo Tua at a preseason game… the answer is ABSOLUTELY! Tobin once again tries to get us to care about Eurobasket which spirals into a debate between him and Leroy about which teams in the NBA can the Serbian National team beat!
The show kicks off with some Marlins talk after another loss to the Phillies and whether Sandy can help them avoid the sweep. Tobin once again tries to get everyone invested in EuroBasket ahead of Serbia and France. The gang also celebrates Marcos's birthday, debates whether knowing someone's birthday actually matters, and discusses if the Dolphins will regret passing on Rueben Bain. We then hit Around the NFL, hear from Mario Cristobal, and get more EuroBasket talk, including Nikola Jović and his mom. The crew also plays Rats Off A Ship, covering college drug rings, the Marlins and ugly pugs. Finally, Tobin questions the shady business behind sports ownership, the gang debates whether Tua will get booed in the preseason, and Tobin and Leroy argue over which NBA teams Serbia could beat.
0:00 ... Ross opens the show and introduces the panel .... episode #262 is dedicated to Carmelo Anthony, who set the New York Knicks single game scoring record with 62 points. 0:58 ... Bruce introduces Mike Wise, whose career as an NBA writer has taken him to major outlets like the New York Times, the Washington Post, ESPN, and several other stops along the way. He was even a rickshaw driver for one of the greatest ballers in the history of basketball. 2:58 ... Mike tells the story of how he befriended Magic Johnson as a high school kid in Hawaii and they played ball with all of his friends. 4:35 ... Mike reflects on the Knicks 2026 championship run and how improbable some of the games were. 7:29 ... Was OG Anunoby's tip in one of the greatest plays in the history of Madison Square Garden? 8:56 ... Mike remembers how Jalen Brunson's dad Rick was a member of the 1999 Knicks team with little Jalen playing around on the court and how that little kid became perhaps the second greatest Knick ever. Brunson amazes Mike with his skills on the court. 10:56 ... Mike on Knicks fans ... were they as sophisticated as they thought they were? 16:07 .... LeBron goes to Philly and continues his quest to be recognized as the GOAT if he can win 1-2 more championships. Mike feels LBJ still has a lot to give. 20:18 ... Which opening night matchup is Mike looking forward to the most? Thunder vs Spurs and Wemby vs Holmgren? Mike explains. 22:26 ... Ross likes the opener between the Sixers and Knicks as his choice. 23:12 ... What about the Celtics vs Pistons at 2:00pm on a Tuesday as the opener for those two teams? 24:27 ... Has social media made it more difficult for reporters to build relationships with players? 26:38 ... Mike has a great story about Kobe Bryant and how Kobe and he took a car ride where Kobe's musical tastes were on display. 29:05 ... Mike praises two of the best PR guys in the business, Jeff Twiss and Raymond Ridder for their willingness to help reporters gain access to players. 31:10 ... World B asks Mike who his most enjoyable players were to cover ... Bruce Bowen was at the top of his list. Roger Mason and Garrett Temple were two others. Temple's dad Collis broke the color barrier at LSU and Garrrett told Mike how his Dad shouted down a future Ku Klux Klan grand wizard on the LSU campus. 34:22 .... Mike has an incredible story about Charles Barkley and how they met in Panama where Mike now lives. 36:00 ... Mike tells a story about Larry Bird and how Barkley showed him a video where Bird did a favor for someone that is mind boggling in its generosity. 38:17 ... Barkley had words of inspiration for Mike's son Oliver during their visit .... and more than a few "F Bombs" were used in the conversation. 38:51 ... Sophie Cunningham has made a lot of enemies due to her opposition to transgender females competing against natural born females. Mike checks in with his thoughts on the controversy. 41:57 ... Cunningham has publicly stood up for her teammate Caitlin Clark and Bruce was wondering if that may be contributing to some of the animosity towards her from other WNBA players. 44:01 ... Ross asks Mike for his opinion on the Steve Ballmer/Kawhi Leonard/Aspiration investigation. 46:41 ... Bruce is most bothered by the way the investigation has held up the trade involving the Raptors and Clippers and how players like Brandon Ingram and Gradey Dick as well as Leonard are collatoral damage and how unfair it is to them. 47:59 ... Mike thinks there's a good story yet to be written about Kawhi's Uncle Dennis, who may be kind of shady. 49:05 ... Bruce asks Mike, who is good friends with Jeanie Buss what he thinks about the news that Jeanie is taking legal action against her family members who are trying to sell the Buss family's remaining ownership stake in the Lakers. 52:12 ... Bruce thanks Mike for joining the show 53:22 ... Mike has one final story about "Earvin" Johnson on his way out the door ... 54:05 ... Ross wraps the show and says goodbye! It's just the two of them this week — Harp's off in San Antonio, so Robert Horry and Rob Jenners are running the show solo, old-school style. No Shoot Around this Friday either, so they're packing everything into one episode. They start with the good stuff: the NBA dropped a taste of the schedule, and the Christmas Day slate is loaded — Spurs-Knicks, Heat-Celtics, Sixers-Lakers (hello LeBron revenge tour), Thunder-Wolves, and Nuggets-Warriors closing it out. Bob and Rob debate whether Denver deserved the marquee spot over Dallas, and that turns into a bigger conversation about how much longer Jokic and Steph stick around their current teams — and why neither of them should ever, ever run for office. From there it's opening week previews, a Pistons discussion that gets real about the Jalen Duren contract standoff, and Bob's old war stories about guys faking injuries to force a new deal. Then the Kawhi Leonard stuff. Another secret endorsement deal surfaced this week — this time with Daktronics — and the guys walk through it, plus the resurfaced details from the Lakers' 2019 free agency pitch that the league is now investigating. They get into whether the Clippers star actually suits up this season and what it means if the NBA lets this slide. Also on deck: Dillon Brooks cashing in with a $73 million extension from the Spurs, Wemby flying the whole Spurs roster to Paris for a mini training camp, and Robert's take on a young guy trying to "lead" without doing anything out of the ordinary. VJ Edgecombe getting FaceTimed by LeBron leads Bob into one of his own stories from his playing days, and then Scottie Pippen's blunt comments about Zion Williamson's discipline get the full breakdown — including Bob's offer to personally get Zion in shape. They pay respects to the late, great Don Nelson, run back Adam Vinatieri's surprisingly filthy Hall of Fame speech, and there's a QVC clip that has to be heard to be believed. Big Shot of the Week goes to a Virginia man who donated a kidney to a stranger and wore his Santa hat into surgery to do it. And to close it out — since it's just the two of them — they finally play 82 and 0 on the show for the first time, drafting all-time rosters and trying (and mostly failing) to go undefeated. 00:00 Kickoff: Just Rob and Rob This Week 01:34 Christmas Day Slate Revealed 02:34 Jokic, Steph and the Nuggets-Warriors Debate 07:05 NBA Opening Week Schedule 08:04 Pistons Outlook and the Jalen Duren Standoff 10:34 Old-School Contract Holdout Stories 12:34 Setting Up 82 and 0 14:11 Kawhi's Latest Secret Endorsement Deal 15:34 The 2019 Clippers Free Agency Allegations 20:34 Will Kawhi Suit Up This Season? 22:34 Dillon Brooks Cashes In 24:34 Wemby's Paris Minicamp 27:05 VJ Edgecombe's LeBron FaceTime Story 29:34 Scottie Pippen Sounds Off on Zion 37:34 Remembering Don Nelson 39:30 Vinatieri's Hall of Fame Roast 40:55 QVC Wig Clip of the Week 42:32 Big Shot of the Week: Dave Bell 43:36 Playing 82 and 0 53:03 TV Talk and Sign-Off
