Thoughts on MOON KNIGHT! Digging into themes of the Lemire and Smallwood Marvel Comics run (2016) in light of the first episode of the Marvel Studios Disney+ show. Oh, mishaps! This week, the podcast was MEANT to cover the 2016 ”Moon Knight” run by Lemire and Smallwood (which we DO!) AND the graphic novel “Memories from Limon” by Edo Brenes… but mysterious forces struck (a power outage in Paul's home studio) … only the first half of that promise was met. So “Memories from Limon” (NoBrow) will go on the list of UPCOMING TITLES to be discussed on future episodes of Comics Syllabus (visit us at comicssyllabus.substack.com ), along with these: The Reading List for Upcoming Reviews: “Squire” by Alfageeh and Shammas (HarperAlley/Quill Tree, 2022) “Cyclopedia Exotica” by Aminder Dhaliwal (Fantagraphics, 2021) “Walk Me to the Corner” by Anneli Furmark (Drawn + Quarterly, 2022) “Killadelphia” v1-3 by Rodney Barnes and Jason Shawn Alexander (Image) and Barnes' Substack, Dark Apocrypha. “Dear Sophie, Love Sophie” by Sophie Lucido Johnson (HarperOne, 2022) and “My Badly Drawn Life” by Gipi (Fantagraphics, 2022)
Dear Sophie by Emma Brankin was published in X-R-A-Y Literary Magazine in July 2020. In a brief series of emails, Amy attempts to craft the perfect message to send to her friend Sophie on her wedding day. In this very modern, witty piece, we see Amy grapple with the guilt of missing her friend's wedding day, the shame and comparison created by social media, and how to congratulate someone you care about when your own life is in shambles. This chat with Sophie Lucido Johnson was everything I could have hoped for and more. We talk about her books (Many Love and Love without Sex), polyamory, loving human beans, how roosters won't let people love them, internalized emotional responsibility for others, the safety of lying and of course, pigeons. Sophie is a dream to chat with and her books have felt like a gentle hand hold into the world of polyamory while giving me the knowledge and language to start exploring what Many Love looks like for me and my relationships. Note: I completely overshare about my personal life and my partner gave 100% consent for this episode to be published. In this episode, I talk about the E-2 visa, which is available for investors who own a company. The principal investor visa is for somebody who is coming to the United States to develop and direct the operations. It’s also for people who are coming to work in the U.S. as executives, supervisors, or other employees who have essential skills. What makes this visa type an amazing option is that there’s no lottery involved and it’s available at any time of the year. Now, not everybody qualifies even if you have a business or you're investing your own money into it. And even if you are, you have to have citizenship from certain countries in order to qualify. I also talk about some things you need to be cautious about if you are on this type of visa and you’re raising further investment rounds down the road. In this episode, you’ll hear about: E-2 visa qualifications, requirements, and extension Different paths to navigate through the E-2 visa How much money is required and how to go around this when you’re broke Is there a direct path to a green card?
