Today's Headlines: Right as Taylor Swift casually dropped her engagement pics Trump brushed off his critics by saying he might be a “dictator,” but at least he “stops crime,” and pitched the death penalty for DC murders. He also doubled down on firing Fed Governor Lisa Cook — accusing her of mortgage fraud (a line of attack he often saves for Black women in power) — and is already eyeing his buddy Stephen Miran as a replacement. Cook is suing, and the Fed says it'll let the courts decide.Meanwhile, Commerce Secretary Lutnick floated the idea of the U.S. buying stakes in defense giants like Lockheed Martin — basically admitting they're already arms of the government. Over in Congress, Oversight Chair James Comer launched a probe into DC crime stats after a whistleblower claimed they were cooked. On foreign policy, Trump met with South Korea's president and announced 600,000 new visas for Chinese students, despite backlash from his base. Abroad, Israeli troops shelled Gaza's Nasser Hospital, killing 20 people, including journalists and medics, saying they mistook a camera for Hamas surveillance. In Australia, PM Anthony Albanese blamed Iran for a string of arson attacks targeting Jewish sites, expelled Iranian diplomats, and cut ties completely. Lastly, OpenAI faces yet another lawsuit — this one from the parents of a 16-year-old in California who say ChatGPT helped their son explore suicide methods before he took his life. Unpack the complex and troubling connection between U.S. university admissions for Chinese students and the nation's reliance on China for rare earth minerals. This deep dive reveals how a seemingly separate issue—the flood of Chinese students into American schools—is a bargaining chip in a high-stakes trade war. The transcript exposes how years of domestic policy have put the U.S. in a vulnerable position, leading to a situation where a critical supply of rare earth magnets for American industries is held hostage to visa policy. The result is a maddening look at how China is using every available tool to achieve world dominance, while the U.S. is forced into a difficult and compromising position.

This segment discusses a "war" being waged on platforms like X against major corporations, including Microsoft, for their alleged misuse of the H-1B visa program. The hosts claim that Microsoft recently laid off thousands of American engineers, only to immediately list the same jobs for foreign workers on H-1B visas at lower wages. They argue this is part of a system where companies use the visa program to replace American workers with "indentured servants" who are beholden to their employers. The conversation highlights how online activists and citizens are fighting back by publicly identifying these job listings and flooding them with applications, a move that legally complicates the visa process. The hosts also point to political figures like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Steve Bannon, who are reportedly pressuring the current administration to reform the H-1B program, arguing that it is harming American workers and is a "scam" that primarily benefits large corporations and the Democratic Party.

Today's Headlines: The Trump–Putin “summit” in Alaska dominated the weekend, though there seemed to be more bad optics than progress. Putin demanded control of Donetsk plus recognition of Russia's land grabs in Ukraine, while hinting China could offer Kyiv “security guarantees” instead of NATO. No deal came out of it, but plenty of eyebrow-raisers did: Russian FM Lavrov in a vintage USSR shirt, US troops literally rolling out a red carpet, Trump's team leaving summit documents (including Putin's lunch menu) at a hotel printer, and Putin even hopped into Trump's car for a quick chat. Journalists said Trump's staff looked “ashen,” a post-meeting lunch was mysteriously canceled, and the only follow-up so far is Trump planning a phone call with Zelensky and EU leaders. Elsewhere, Israel saw a massive general strike—organizers say about 10% of the country joined—to pressure the government into prioritizing a hostage deal over expanding the Gaza war. In the U.S., about 60 kids from Gaza arrived for medical care with the help of a nonprofit, sparking outrage from Laura Loomer and prompting the Trump administration to pause visitor visas from the territory. Back in DC, hundreds of National Guard troops from West Virginia, Ohio, and South Carolina are being deployed to the capital in Trump's ongoing push to control city policing—though officials insist they're not armed “at this time.” Democrats, led by Rep. Jamie Raskin, are pushing a resolution to end Trump's authority over the DC police. And finally, Hurricane Erin—the first named storm of the season—rapidly jumped to a Category 5 before downgrading slightly. It's still expected to slam the Southeast as a major hurricane early this week. Jeffrey Epstein's so-called “model visa” scheme was a carefully engineered system that used the glamour of the modeling industry as a cover to import and control young women, many from overseas. Recruiters—often women in his inner circle—lured victims with promises of fashion careers, sometimes backed by legitimate-looking modeling agencies and brand associations like Victoria's Secret. Once targeted, women were moved through a network of immigration loopholes, sham marriages, and legal paperwork that appeared legitimate to authorities. Epstein's connections to modeling agents such as Jean-Luc Brunel expanded his international reach, while his money paid for immigration lawyers, housing, and travel to keep the operation running without attracting suspicion. This infrastructure allowed him to maintain a steady supply of victims under the protection of legal status, making escape difficult and silence almost certain. The system thrived in the blind spots between law enforcement agencies, exploiting the fact that visa fraud and marriage records are rarely scrutinized unless tied to larger investigations. Even after Epstein's death, elements of this network remain intact: lawyers, recruiters, and agencies still in operation, and government files containing the hidden paper trail. Survivors face lingering consequences—fraudulent marriages, precarious immigration status, and the trauma of having their lives rewritten on paper to mask abuse. The scheme's success shows how predators can twist legitimate systems into tools of exploitation, offering a blueprint that could be reused unless those vulnerabilities are confronted and closed.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com

S4E25: The 2025 Admissions Reality — How Funding Cuts, Student Visas, and Campus Culture Will Shape This Cycle

Admittedly: College Admissions with Thomas Caleel

In this episode of the Admittedly Podcast, host Thomas Caleel takes a strategic pause to break down the seismic shifts hitting higher education right now—and what they mean for your application this year. From sweeping funding cuts at top universities, to uncertainty for international students, to new pressures for changes in campus culture, the landscape is changing fast. Thomas unpacks how these forces intersect with admissions strategy, why legacy students may have an edge once again, and why you still can't rely on luck or shortcuts. This is the episode to hear if you want to stay ahead of the curve and play this year's admissions game with eyes wide open. Key Takeaways: Funding Cuts Have Ripple Effects: Multi-million-dollar hits to endowments mean less money for research, professors, and student services. While no one is officially admitting it, full-pay and legacy applicants could benefit as schools seek financial stability. International Students Face More Uncertainty: Visa approvals may be shakier, and aid for non-U.S. students could shrink. If you're applying from abroad, diversify your list globally and take a long-term view toward grad school opportunities. “Non-Controversial” Is the New Campus Buzzword: Universities are feeling pressure to avoid volatile environments. Expect closer scrutiny of your online presence. This Is Not Carte Blanche: Even with shifts in seat allocation, hyper-selective schools will still reject most applicants. Strategy, rigor, and impact still matter more than ever. The bottom line? This may be a year of advantage for certain applicants, but the bar for admission remains sky-high. Your best play is to get strategic, stay authentic, and present your story with discipline and clarity. Are you feeling these changes in your own application plans?

Frederic Remington created some of the most iconic Western art in the history of America. His art was able to bring the untamed frontier to the big city and today is evocative of the Wild West. Remington not only drew and painted the West, he lived it as well and he loved playing the role of pseudo cowboy. His art is showcased at the Frederic Remington Museum of Art in Ogdensburg, New York, a town where he grew up and would spend time in his adulthood. Even though Remington didn't live in the house that became the museum, it is said he haunts the place. And there is a legend connected to the house that also seems to have left behind a ghost story.
