Erskin Anavitarte is a Texas-born singer-songwriter, adoption advocate, and music co-producer who’s currently writing a book on leadership based on the ways of Jesus. He grew up in the church but didn’t step into a personal relationship with God at church. He tells his story of surrendering to Jesus and then shares a song with us live in studio about the hope we have in Christ. If Paul could write a letter to the American Church, what do you think he would say? Perry thinks he would sound a lot like Tim Keller. Shawna thinks he would challenge us to be uncomfortable, to take risks! Then, God tests us to see what’s in our hearts, to see what we’re made of, to see if we love him most. Perry shares, “God tested me on Monday, and I saw that I needed to lay down an idol.” Next, even if you have a great sense of direction you can get turned around. This happens in our relationship with God too. Last, if you were to use your God given holy imagination, what would you imagine Jesus was up to on the Saturday after His crucifixion and before His resurrection?Support the show: https://give.moodyradio.org/fall-share?v=def&appeal=MRWM&_gl=1%2a142i9we%2a_ga%2aNTE4MTE5MmUtY2U1Yy00YmQ3LWU4MmUtNjEwYTQ5YzAyODRj%2a_ga_4WH1937046%2aMTY5NTExODEwMS4yOTkuMC4xNjk1MTE4MTAxLjYwLjAuMA..&_ga=2.197426156.215784306.1695059984-1182841406.166859587See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode Rob and Tim discuss the significance and importance of Genesis 1, especially as it relates to helping us understand and interpret the rest of the Bible. In the very first sentences of Genesis 1, we discover that the Bible is communicating to its readers incredible truths about who God is, and the fact that he has a purpose in what He is doing. And these truths point us to a number of patterns and themes that will be carried on throughout the narrative of scripture. Rob and Tim had a lot to say, so this will be a two part episode (at least). Intro Song: King of the Mountain by Erskin Anavitarte (https://music.apple.com/us/artist/erskin-anavitarte/377647572)

My guest today on Voices In My Head is Erskin Anavitarte. Erskin is a Nashville-based singer/songwriter who has garnered loyal fans around the world with his unique blend of pop, jazz, R&B and hip-hop styles. Following his 2014 EP, Let's Ride, Erskin released Look Up in 2015, which featured the watershed single “Black & White,” a thought-provoking, action-inspiring narrative on race and religion in America. Love Moves, Erskin's sixth recording, bowed in 2019. Recently, Erskin has partnered with Nik Ripken Ministries (NRM) for the release of his latest music video, “Is He Worth It?” Spotlighting the plight of Believers in persecution, the video was directed by Jonathan Barker and produced by Luke Harvey and features scenes from the 2016 NRM and LifeWay Films documentary The Insanity of God. Based on the bestselling title of the same name by Nik Ripken—a veteran missionary and leading expert on Believers in persecution—the film powerfully depicts accounts of Christians around the world serving a living Christ, even when it costs them everything.Co-penning the track with Nik Ripken, Laura Allen and Matt Papa, Erskin hopes both the song and music video will challenge Christians who have not faced persecution to share the Gospel boldly, standing in solidarity with those suffering because of their faith. Stu chats with Erskin Anavitarte, Nashville-based singer-songwriter, diversity spokesman, adoption advocate, and music co-producer. Hear his heart for Jesus, as well as two of his songs: "Black & White" and "Is He Worth It?"
Christian music has come a long way in terms of its musicality and appeal. Some people love that, and others not so much. My daughter (Shannon) and I have always been a bit picky about the music we listen to in this genre and I thought it would be fun to play a few of my favorite songs for her and get her reaction. So, feel free to grab a headset or connect to a stereo and enjoy the music. Hang on beyond the 28 minute mark for bonus discussion. SONGS: 40 by U2, recorded live in Chicago in 2005 (Intro); Black and White by Erskin Anavitarte; Psalm 119 by Reston Bible Church; 40 by U2; Magnificent by U2 (program close).
