This week, Noah and Aidan dive into one of the most chaotic and uncomfortable “social experiment” reality shows to ever air — FX's Black. White. (2006). Produced by Ice Cube, this short-lived series followed one Black family and one white family who donned theatrical makeup to experience life as the opposite race. From cringe-inducing slam poetry to awkward focus groups, dialect coaches, and the worst Afro wig you've ever seen on TV, Black. White. is a time capsule of early 2000s race relations and network absurdity. Noah and Aidan break down each family, from Bruno's obsession with saying the N-word to Renee's candid behavior and Rose's eagerness to engage. We discuss what worked, what absolutely didn't, and why the show felt more like a high school sociology lesson than a reality series. Plus we talk about people who leave eggshells in the carton. Send us a textYou know what time it is—it's another round of Black, White, or Other, the only game show where the stories are wild, the crimes are questionable, and the people… well, let's just say they always keep us guessing. In this episode, we've got naked porch poopings, salsa-jar smackdowns, a woman who robbed Dollar General and came back mid-investigation for her phone, a couple that faked hairy food for a free meal during a proposal, and a paramedic who impersonated a doctor just for the vibes. Oh—and let's not forget the fentanyl soda surprise or the fake Amazon worker caught stealing mail like it's Prime Day.So grab your scorecards, tune up your stereotypes (responsibly), and get ready to laugh, cringe, and shout at your speakers—because it's time to guess: Black, White, or Other?"Hosted by Nicholas Finch & Kirstan Cunningham New Episodes every Thursday!! Sometimes, the best conversations happen when there's no agenda. This is one of those moments. With London as the backdrop — its history, energy, and unpredictable charm — Sean and I sat on the grass in Hyde Park and hit record. No script, no plan. Just two friends talking about music, memories, meditation, and why we still believe in experiencing things without a phone between us and reality. From yoga poses on park benches to tales of Clapton at Royal Albert Hall and an upcoming Oasis reunion in Cardiff (yes, really), this is a meandering mix of thoughts and stories — like walking down Portobello Road not knowing what you'll find. We touch on the lost art of being present, why live music changes everything, and how the UK's cultural influence shaped our creative paths.Sure, we dip into punk, rock, film, and a few philosophical musings about why Florence isn't featured more in books and movies — but it's all under one theme: reconnecting with the world around us. It's a conversation that could only happen in a place like London — rich with culture, memories, and endless possibility. If you're tired of content that's too polished, too planned, or too promotional… this episode is a breath of fresh (sometimes damp) British air.⸻Hashtags:#storytelling, #london, #musiclovers, #meditation, #unscripted, #podcastlife, #travelstories, #creativelife, #liveinthemoment, #punkrockNew episodes drop when they drop. In this interview, we are talking about mixed-race, but families can also be mixed culturally. Is it true that mixed-race is the fastest-growing group in the US?Issues facing biracial people in the US. You say you felt a “two-ness”. But you came to view being of mixed race as a blessing rather than a curse. Why, as a child did it feel uncomfortable to you and how did you grow to accept it?Do you think a mixed-race adopted or foster child being raised by parents of a different race from them but the same shared race with each other will face different challenges? In the past, it was common to tell adoptive/foster/grandparents that the world was going to treat their child as Black (or another race), so you should focus your efforts on raising a Black child and not emphasize their other race. People in the US see race first. How should parents handle it?Does it matter if the child's dominant features make her look like she fits more squarely in one race?5 values for raising a biracial child:AwarenessHumilityDiversityHonestyExplorationBenefits/advantages to being mixed-race:Can function in both majority and minority environmentsTips for Raising a Mixed-Race ChildSupport the showPlease leave us a rating or review. Nope!Welcome to Random and Unscripted, where Sean Martin and Marco Ciappelli hit record and let the conversation take on a life of its own. No structure, no rules—just whatever happens to pop into their heads. And, as it turns out, quite a lot pops in.In this latest episode, we kick things off with a deep philosophical debate about… hats. Specifically, the mysterious origins of Sean's recently rediscovered headwear, which may or may not be Australian (or possibly extraterrestrial). Naturally, this segues into a discussion on the architecture of New York and London, the peculiar planning rules that keep St. Paul's Cathedral in view, and, of course, eating amazing ravioli. Because why not? It's ravioli! What's the matter with you?!From there, things take a turn into the creative process behind Storie Sotto Le Stelle, the podcast and story series Marco has been creating with his mother. What started as a way to preserve small-town grocery store memories turned into a whimsical collection of tales featuring talking shoes, mad cats, colorful bicycle races, enchanted gardens, and even a robot studying humanity from an observatory made of glass. Sean marvels at the sheer volume of stories Marco's mom has written (over 40 in the pipeline!), while Marco contemplates the life choices that led to him having yet another unpaid creative job. LOL!Somewhere along the way, they also tackle the nature of creativity, the fine line between genius and madness, and whether there's a market for on-demand, custom-made stories (spoiler: Marco is not taking commissions… yet. Go ahead, make him an offer). In true Random and Unscripted fashion, we wrap things up with musings on personal passions—writing, music, storytelling, and the simple joy of doing something just because it makes life more interesting. It's the kind of conversation best enjoyed over coffee, a glass of wine, or while wearing a completely unnecessary but highly stylish hat.New episodes drop when they drop. Expect the unexpected.Guest links:

How do black and white and color influence the way we perceive images? In this episode, Marco Ciappelli and Sean Martin examine the role of black-and-white and color in film, photography, and visual storytelling. The conversation moves through history, from silent films to modern cinema, touching on the technological and artistic decisions that shape how we experience visuals. The Psychology of Color in FilmCiappelli shares insights from the Academy Museum's Color Emotion: Chromatic Exploration of Cinema exhibit, which explores how filmmakers use color to create mood and evoke emotion. The discussion highlights the transition from black-and-white films to color and how directors leverage lighting, camera technology, and costume choices to enhance storytelling. The Wizard of Oz, a defining moment in cinematic history, is discussed as a key example—the shift from black-and-white Kansas to the Technicolor world of Oz wasn't just a technical innovation but an intentional artistic decision.Black-and-White as an Artistic ChoiceMartin, who also has a background in photography, reflects on how black-and-white imagery forces viewers to focus on different elements—contrast, shadows, and composition—rather than being distracted by color. He notes that black-and-white isn't just about nostalgia; it's often used to create a sense of timelessness or emphasize emotional depth. The conversation extends to legendary photographer Ansel Adams, whose landscapes showcase how black-and-white photography can transform light and texture into a powerful visual experience.Photography and the Role of Digital ManipulationThe episode also touches on how digital photography has changed the creative process. The ability to capture dozens of images in seconds and manipulate them in post-production raises questions about authenticity. Is there more artistic value in an image that is captured perfectly in the moment, or is post-processing just another tool in the creative toolbox? This thought-provoking conversation connects film, photography, and personal experience, inviting listeners to reconsider how they engage with visual storytelling.Tune in to hear more about the relationship between black, white, and color in the way we see the world.

Spiralers, we're calling you (and ourselves!) out. It's time to become aware of and heal our attachment to the far too common "ALL OR NOTHING" paradigm - where you are either going full throttle, pedal to the metal, or completely exhausted and avoiding things all together.Listen to this episode on YouTube:https://youtu.be/JiOsgMl1FYMFor years we both struggled with the constant physical and emotional pendulum swing from wild action to inaction, unable to find a healthy and sustainable balance from which to pursue our desires. We were always either going for it and simulatenously sacrificing our own needs or we were too afraid or burnt out to take any action at all.If this sounds familiar to you, you are likely stuck in BLACK + WHITE thinking. It's the tendency to see, and act, in extremes. Either it's all good or ALL bad. Although this type of thinking might feel normal to you, as it once did for us, it's actually a cognitive distortion. If you were to read about it on Wikipedia, it would say that binary thinking, black-and-white thinking, all-or-nothing thinking, or thinking in extremes is "the failure in a person's thinking to bring together the dichotomy of both perceived positive and negative qualities of something into a cohesive, realistic whole. It is a common defense mechanism wherein the individual tends to think in extremes with no middle ground."Here on the Spiraling Higher Podcast, we have been abundantly clear that our BELIEFS shape our reality. So, consider this...if our beliefs are distorted to see things in an all or nothing fashion...how will that shape our experience of life? In our experience, it led to extreme highs and sometime even lower lows. We realized eventually that our thinking was playing a role in the creation of our inner roller coaster and we feel so honored to be sharing those lessons today from the heart.Highlights:-Discover how perfectionism seeps into our daily routines, amplifying feelings of guilt and pressure.-Uncover the constraints of all-or-nothing thinking and how it limits our personal freedom.-Explore the empowering journey of challenging societal norms as a route to genuine self-acceptance.-Hear the truth behind New Year's resolutions and the reasons they fall flat.-Learn the vital balance between flexibility and rigidity in goal-setting for healthier well-being.-Understand how perfectionistic beliefs can cast a shadow over parenting, affecting both parents and children.-Explore the powerful connection between self-punishment and all-or-nothing thinking, and discover effective strategies to break free from this cycle for a healthier, more balanced mindset.Timestamps:03:12 Breaking Free from Perfectionism06:04 The All or Nothing Mentality08:50 Exploring The Relationship to Food + Connection to All or Nothing12:03 The Journey to Intuitive Living14:56 Challenging Self-Worth and Value18:08 The Impact of New Year's Resolutions21:02 Redefining Success and Acceptance24:12 Parenting and Perfectionism31:06 Understanding All or Nothing Thinking36:03 The Impact of Self-Punishment41:51 Challenging Perfectionism and Self-Acceptance49:08 The Illusion of Forever56:25 Embracing the Journey of Self-DiscoveryAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands
