"Apocalypse In The Tropics" is a 2024 documentary film directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Petra Costa, serving as a spiritual sequel to her 2020 Oscar-nominated documentary, "The Edge of Democracy." Her latest film examines the influence of evangelical Christianity on far-right politics in Brazil. The film premiered out of competition at the 81st Venice International Film Festival to positive reviews and later screened at the 2024 Telluride and New York Film Festivals. Costa, along with producer Alessandra Orofino were both kind enough to speak with us about their work and experience making the film, which you can listen to below. Darkness Radio Presents: The Maury Island Incident: The First Sighting Of Aliens In America w/Mark Everton & Steve Edmiston In 1947 there were a series of bizarre encounters with Unidentified Flying Objects across the United States and Roswell, New Mexico became a household name. But first, in Washington, a spree of sightings would unfold bringing to the modern world the concept of the ‘flying saucer' and possibly the first instance of Men in Black. This brings up the question, Is this first sighting on Maury Island (which was later called a hoax by the Government, for reasons stated in today's program)actually the first acknowledged sighting of UFO in America and not Roswell?! On Today's show, we welcome in the head of the UFO Mysteries Trail at Seattle Southside , an adventure that delves into the historical Maury Island Incident... and Steve Edmiston, the Screenwriter and Co-Producer of "The Maury Incident", an award-winning short film chronicling the true story of Harold Dahl and his alleged 1947 sighting of a UFO over Puget Sound. We talk with Mark and Steve about the incident, why Project Blue Book and the FBI deemed this a hoax, how the Men in Black became involved in this event (and why this area of the country has a Men In Black Birthday Bash!),and, if this case could be reopened and brought before the politicians on Capital Hill?! Liam O'Brien, Co-Producer of the series 'Where is Jón' talks about events that have occurred following the release of the podcasts.
The Varginha Incident unveils one of Brazil's most astonishing and bewildering cases of alleged extraterrestrial encounters. In January 1996, the quiet city of Varginha, in South Minas Gerais State, became the focus of global attention when three young women reportedly encountered a strange, terrified creature in a vacant lot.Vitório Pacaccini, an experienced researcher in Brazilian ufology, took the lead in investigating the incident and quickly uncovered testimony that suggested something far greater. He discovered that a UFO had allegedly crashed nearby, and that military forces had captured and transported its extraterrestrial occupants. Based on his thorough investigations, Pacaccini's account sheds light on a covert military operation involving the Brazilian Army, Fire Brigade, and the U.S. military in an apparent attempt to conceal the event and its implications from the public. Drawing on eyewitness interviews, confidential military sources, and personal encounters with officials, the Varginha Incident meticulously reconstructs the events surrounding the case and examines the government's role in concealing information.Pacaccini takes readers behind the scenes with interactions with local officials to military intimidation and secrecy. His narrative not only presents compelling evidence but also questions the true motives behind the secrecy and the potential collaboration with foreign powers. This book is a captivating investigation into one of ufology's most shocking cases in the world, urging readers to reconsider what we know about alien encounters and the lengths to which authorities may go to keep them hidden.BioVitório Pacaccini Italian-Brazilian, he spent much of his childhood and adolescence in Três Corações, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. He has a degree in Business Administration (MBA) and Engineering (Civil and Industrial Project Management). He worked for over eighteen years at CICOANI - Civil Investigation Center for Unidentified Aerial Objects, which is the oldest field research group in Brazil and has the largest UFO collection in the country. In total, Pacaccini has more than 30 years dedicated to UFO field research. He is part of the UFO Magazine Consultants group which is the largest, oldest and most successful magazine of its kind in all of Brazil. Also Member of CIFE Scientific Channel of UFO's Phenomena & Space Research and had a great involvement in the International Documentary Encounters Latin America. Her UFO research started when she was 17 years old when she had a deep desire to understand the reason “why” of our existence. She used to have strange dreams about herself flying in the air, seeing spaceships, stranger creatures way before she could even begin to understand about UFOs. Based on this and many more reasons, she started doing abduction investigations cases in Brazil and Canada. Likewise, Fernanda has investigated an abduction case that was published in a Civilian UFO Investigation website. Also, she has some of her investigations and articles published in MUFON Journal and MUFON Canada Newsletter.Late of 2021, Fernanda Pires was invited to be part of a UFO Documentary in which she became the Co-Producer directed by James Fox. Join us in this riveting episode of the Alien UFO Podcast, where host Simon Bown engages with renowned researchers Vittorio Pacaccini and Fernanda Perez to explore the notorious Varginha UFO incident of 1996. Did aliens land? This captivating case has long fascinated UFO enthusiasts and skeptics alike, and it's time to dive deep into the details that make it one of the most significant historic UFO cases in recent memory. The Varginha incident is not just another entry in the history of UFOs; it is a complex tapestry woven with eyewitness accounts, military secrecy, aliens, and unexplained phenomena. Our guests share the chilling testimonies of three young girls who encountered an unknown creature in the Jardim Andere district, igniting a media frenzy and drawing the attention of military forces. As Pacaccini recounts the initial UFO sightings that sparked widespread intrigue, listeners will be captivated by the unfolding drama that reveals not one, but two creatures involved in this extraordinary event. What happened to these aliens? Were they merely figments of imagination, or do they represent something more profound in the realm of extraterrestrial encounters? The discussion takes a thought-provoking turn as both Vittorio and Fernanda emphasize the implications of the Varginha incident within the broader context of UFO phenomena. They propose that these creatures could have been biological robots, possibly sent for reconnaissance, raising questions about alien visitation theories and the nature of high strangeness phenomena. As the episode progresses, we delve into the military's secretive actions following the sightings and the health complications faced by those who encountered the unknown. The chilling reality of the situation becomes apparent, as does the need for ongoing UFO research interviews and investigations into the evidence of alien life. Listeners will gain insights into the implications of these events for our understanding of extraterrestrial life and the potential craft beyond human technology that could exist in our universe. This episode is a must-listen for anyone fascinated by paranormal investigations, unexplained phenomena, and the ongoing quest for truth in the world of UFOs. Tune in and discover a world where the lines between reality and the supernatural blur, leaving us to ponder: Are we truly alone in the universe or are aliens real?BioVitório Pacaccini Italian-Brazilian, he spent much of his childhood and adolescence in Três Corações, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
