Childhood sexual abuse is discussed in this conversation. ⚠️ Estefany begins her story by sharing about the sexual abuse she experienced as a child. Aside from the abuse, she knew that she had what she describes as different feelings towards girls. Having a Catholic background, she was aware that same-sex attraction was considered a sin. After high school she officially identified as a lesbian and began a 5-year relationship with a girl she met at work. Estefany eventually wound up at GCU and a class had her reading the Bible weekly for homework. She was adamant that the Christians at GCU would not convert her. The Lord revealed Himself to her as she was studying the Bible and He truly came alive through His Word. Slowly but surely, Estefany was coming to know who Jesus was. Her life was forever changed when she gave her life over to Him. We invite you to join in for this very real and honest conversation about sexuality and identity. It was a blessing to have our friend Sam Brown join us in the studio!  What Sam came to share with us is about his struggle with same-sex attraction and how the Lord has worked in his life through that experience. He explains that for him this was something that seemed to always be a part of him. Though some might come to these feelings through abuse or trauma, that was not the case for Sam. He takes us through his childhood and early middle school years explaining how the struggle became more apparent as he grew up. Sam was really struggling as he really wanted to follow the Lord wholeheartedly but felt trapped in how he would express his identity. Pastor Trevor Schalow is someone who began to minister to, and disciple Sam here at Desert Springs. This relationship would be crucial in Sam's journey even after he came out. There were some very difficult years as Sam teetered back and forth between two lifestyles, but February 2020 brought a lifechanging event. This story is hard to sum up here in the show notes so we would encourage you to take some time to listen to the entirety of this conversation with an open heart and open mind. You will be amazed at how Sam came to a place of surrender, encouraged to think about this topic with grace and challenged to love others more deeply.
