Patreon.com/RememberTheGame XCOM 2 has been lurking near the top of my "someday I'll play it" list for years, and I finally puled the trigger (no pun intended). After over 70 hours of sitting at my PC fighting aliens, I can safely say that XCOM 2 isn't just one of the best tactical RPGs I've ever played, but one of the best games I've ever played, period. If you've never played it, XCOM 2 is a tactical RPG, like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics. You move your soldiers around on a board game-esque grid, and take turns with the computer, who's doing the same with aliens and robots. But in between missions, you're traveling the world gathering resources and using them to upgrade both your troops and your ship. Aliens have taken over the planet, and it's up to you to take it back. It's a little tough to pick up out of the gate, but once you're over the hump, it's addictive as hell. My guest this week is the winner of our Extra-Life charity auction from last December, Robert. He picked this game and now I can see why. We get into the meat of XCOM 2, talk about the superb War of the Chosen DLC, talk about our favourite soldier/ability/equipment combinations, and laugh at the bulshit that is missing a 94% shot with your ass on the line. And before we save the world, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we HAVE to talk a little Switch 2. How am I feeling about WrestleMania this year? And will OG Switch games be discounted after the Switch 2 drops? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 of the highest scored tactical RPGs on Metacritic: Valkyrie Chronicles, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, and Fire Emblem: Awakening. Learn more about your ad choices. In this BSG Bonus episode Chase breaks down the Top 5 Final Fantasy Games to play if you're new to the series. If you want to ruin the surprise as to which games make his list check out the notes below: #5 Final Fantasy IX Released July 7, 2000 on PS1 Was an homage to all the final fantasy games up to this point. Recently Released on IOS and Switch remastered and very nice tools to modernize the game. Interesting Character design and melds old school JRPG stories with interesting character progression (big hands and heads) Follows the womanizer Zidane who journeys with his companions to protect the princess Garnet of Alexandria from being executed by the Queen of Alexandria. #4 Final Fantasy XIII Released March 9, 2010 Very Modern Version of Active Time Battle Even today, ridiculously good graphics for its time Very Linear for quite a while and story can be quite confusing since there is L’Cie and Fal’Cie Follows a female lead (very rare probably not since FF6) known as Lightning who is trying to save her, her sister and her group from crystallization. #3 Final Fantasy Tactics: War of The Lions Released January 28, 1998 on PS1 but “remastered” on PSP and IOS May 10th, 2007. Takes place in Ivalice which is a precursor to its successor FInal Fantasy 12 Story feels like a Game of Thrones, Dark and Gritty You follow Ramza who is an illegitimate child to the throne who are in a war known as the Lion war. Tons of people die in dramatic ways. Metascore of 88 The game plays like a strategy game such as Ogre tactics: Let Us Cling Together or Fire Emblem but with a vast and beautiful job system and memorable characters. #2 Final Fantasy 15 Action-RPG Released November 29th 2016 You are the son of the king who gets usurped by Nifilheim and have to go through your birthright of power in order to eventually reclaim the throne. Metascore of 81% Very modern version of JRPGs and high quality graphics Revolves around Noctis and his three best friends Some fun DLC episodes added to the game as well as an anime: FFXV Brotherhood #1 Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn An MMORPG from September 20th 2010 Revolves around your character being the hero of light who needs to save the continent of Eorzea from perils such as the spirit animals known as Primals and the Garlean empire. Started off poorly but fixed with Realm Reborn Expansions: Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers Comes out with constant updates Monthly Subscription like WoW Improve on battle system constantly Metascore of 86% Disagree with Chase's list?
