Xbox Boss Blames ASUS For ROG Ally X's $1000 Price Tag - IGN Daily Fix

In today's Daily Fix:Microsoft is saying the controversial price of the ROG Xbox Ally X wasn't set by them, but rather hardware maker ASUS. The Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X are $599 and $999 respectively, and feature Xbox-themed UI and connect to the users' Xbox accounts, but are technically ASUS products under the ROG brand. Despite the price, Microsoft claims the devices have sold out on the Xbox store and other retailers, and the critical response has been overall positive, despite the steep price. In other news, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3's co-director is saying that the game's combat system is not yet decided, despite calls for the series to return to turn-based roots. This comes after the surprise success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which features many game mechanics popularized by JRPGs like classic FF titles. And finally, a leak about more Resident Evil remakes may prove to be real, with reports saying Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica are next on Capcom's to-do list.

Nun gibt es wieder einen Atlas (All New Atlas). Masters of the Air erzählt diesmal die Geschichte einer B17 Flying Fortress Staffel.

I recently played the Pixel Remaster version for the first time, so I wanted to give Cecil and friends another round of RTG.I don't disagree with anyone that says Final Fantasy VI is the superior game, but IV isn't without its charm. I love the characters, betrayals, and combat system, and personally I like the linear party management of this one better to future entries where you can mix and match as you please. It's really wild to see how far JRPGs have come since Golbez's started robbing jewelry stores, and I think FF IV deserves its flowers for helping the series evolve from its basic NES counterparts.Captain N of the Retrotopia podcast joins me this week and we both geeked out pretty hard over this game. A couple dungeons (Dark Elf) and characters (Spoony Bard) got under our skin, but at the end of the day I think we agree that this is a must-play for fans of the genre, and a great place for someone new to Final Fantasy to get their feet wet. Will Smith brilliert als ehrgeiziger Vater. Rap aus Bayern The Gaudi is wieder Real! Weltkrieg.

Also fliegen und fahren. As much as we love the aesthetics and classic quality of these games... we are also glad that some mechanics have been left for the retro compilations now.  Finally, we talk about all the games releasing in August. It's a relatively quiet month, but that doesn't mean there aren't things coming up to pay attention to!

In today's episode, I'm playing a song from the early 90s adventure game, King's Quest 6 - the instrumental version of "Girl in the Tower," which played at the end of the game if you had the CD-ROM version of the game, a feat that was pretty cool at the time.  Although the song, composed by Mark Siebert, fit in perfectly with the top 40 adult contemporary hits of the early 90s and the themes of later JRPGs like those found in the Final Fantasy games, for me, it always stood out since it had all the parts I loved in 80s ballads - a catchy, hummable melody, an electric guitar instrumental break, and a piano instrumental.  I've always loved the contrast between all those parts.  Plus, it was the only CD we had for quite awhile.  I'd be lying if I didn't admit that a fair amount of the sound that makes its way into The Thirteenth Hour soundtracks comes from songs like this.Girl in the Tower (CD version)Girl in the tower instrumentalCassima's ThemeAnd that's why I wanted to dedicate today's episode and the rendition on piano that I attempted to Roberta Vaughn, who passed away recently, suddenly and way too young.  She was instrumental in forming the Classic Gamer's Guild in Facebook, a welcoming, positive group dedicated to celebrating classic games, especially adventure games of the 80s and 90s.  Truth be told, when I was playing with the idea of trying to figure this song out, I initially wasn't sure if I should.  What if she hated the game?  I wasn't sure and thought about asking folks who knew her better.  But I figured, given the kind of person I understood her to be, even if she wasn't the biggest fan of the game or the song, she'd appreciate the inherent 90s cheese of the lyrics and the nostalgia of it all and get a kick out of it.  At least I hope so.    May there be the hint books be infinite and the copy protection miniscule wherever you are, Roberta.  Thank you for all you did.  This one is for you. Thanks for listening!∞∞∞∞∞∞∞Once Upon a Dream, the second Thirteenth Hour soundtrack, is now out in digital form and on CD!   It is out on most major streaming services such as Bandcamp, Spotify, and YouTube Music.  (If you have no preference, I recommend Bandcamp since there is a bonus track there and you will eventually be able to find tapes and special editions of the album there as well.)  The CDs are out now!-Check out the pixelart music videos that are out so far from the album:-->Logan's Sunrise Workout: www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7SM1RgsLiM-->Forward: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9VgILr1TDc-->Nightsky Stargazing: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2S0p3jKRTBo-->Aurora's Rainy Day Mix: https://youtu.be/zwqPmypBysk∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞ Signup for the mailing list for a free special edition podcast, a demo copy of The Thirteenth Hour, and access to retro 80s soundtrack!Like what you see or hear?

Resident Evil changed everything.  When originally released in 1996, what was once a niche genre for enthusiasts was now a blockbuster staple in every second home.  All of a sudden people were craving zombies, horrifying monsters and disturbing themes.  It was so popular that Square, far more known for its more traditional JRPGs, decided to throw its hat in the ring and make Parasite Eve.On the surface, the game appeared to be textbook survival horror.  But dig a little deeper and you could see that Square was unable to escape its roots.  Turn based mode happened in a sphere similar to Vagrant Story, upgrades were plentiful and incremental, and the storytelling had more cutscenes than gameplay at least in the early stages.  Thematically this was still horrifying…but under the hood was a different story. Was this blend of genres ultimately successful, giving survival horror a fresh new perspective?  Or is it impossible to reconcile grim resources management with the power fantasy that RPGS almost always offer? On this episode, we discuss:StoryHow does Parasite Eve use real world science to lend an air of credibility to the horrific changes that are happening all over Manhattan?  Does it execute the smaller details well even if the larger picture is a bit silly at times?CombatHow enjoyable is the moment to moment real time combat of Parasite Eve?  The game requires you to dodge attacks, and pick the best moment to strike.  Is this too simplistic or does it work well?ProgressionHow do the weapon and armour upgrades work in Parasite Eve?  Does it provide the player with a satisfying sense of progression, or is it all just a confusing mess?We answer these questions and many more on the 132nd episode of the Retro Spectives Podcast!—Intro Music: KieLoBot - Tanzen KOutro Music: Rockit Maxx - One point to anotherParasite Eve OST: Yoko Shinomura—What crazy weapon upgrade paths do you like to use?  Is the NG+ mode worth playing?  How is Parasite Eve 2 different from the original?  Come let us know what you think on our discord server!Come let us know what you think or recommend us a new game on our community discord server! If you would like to support the show monetarily, you can buy us a coffee here!

In this episode of the Gaming Round Table, we delve deep into the world of Final Fantasy with a special focus on Final Fantasy XIV. Join us as we welcome back guests Cole, Moogan, and Scrag, who bring their unique insights into the current state of the game. We tackle the controversies and frustrations surrounding the Final Fantasy XIV community, questioning whether these represent standard cycles or signal larger issues for the game's future. The conversation also expands to Square Enix's recent announcements about exploring turn-based JRPGs, hinting at a return to their roots. Our guests share their opinions on whether Final Fantasy should bifurcate into separate action and turn-based branches to satisfy diverse player expectations. We also explore the realm of job identity and new features for the anticipated 8.0 expansion. With an unlimited budget as a playful hypothetical, ideas range from revitalizing the sub-job system to creating more complex roles within the game. Our discussion wouldn't be complete without addressing the role of Yoshi P, whose influence on the franchise has been monumental, yet whose workload appears overwhelming. We ask if it's time for him to focus on new projects or even a brand-new Final Fantasy MMO. Tune in to hear these perspectives and more, and stay plugged into the developments that could shape the future of this beloved gaming series!

The global economy is in a tumultuous state, inflation has carved away everyone's purchasing power, and prices are almost universally going up. So naturally, PlayStation will follow suit and jack its rates up too, right? Well, no. Instead, they're doing the exact opposite of what seems natural: For their annual, weeks-long Days of Play sales event, Sony has slashed prices on PS5 and PS5 Pro, PSVR2 and DualSense, and even DualSense Edge and the Access controller. Is Sony's boldness in risking economic erosion worth it? Is its strategy simply to put its boot on Xbox's neck once and for all? We discuss. Long ago, it was prophesized that four heroes would arrive to save the world from the encroaching darkness. It's said these Warriors of Light would repel the forces of darkness and finally bring peace to the world.  Don't worry, we're here but instead of saving the world we've decided to use our powers for actual good: To spend the next 5-6 hours talking at you about the entire Final Fantasy series. That's right baby, we're going in chronological order starting with the very first Final Fantasy. From Anima to Zidane, we're here to get you informed and psyched up for the upcoming Final Fantasy Magic the Gathering set, due to release on June 13, 2025. Join Braden, Chris, and Adam as they discuss Hironobu Sakaguchi's The Last Story, including a brief recollection of Project Rainfall and what it was like to talk about JRPGs on the internet approximately 14 years ago. It's not all horror stories though, as they also cover the game's unique approach to combat, its non-unique approach to storytelling, and why basically no one talked about it after release (hint: it's Xenoblade's fault.) Our hosts found a game they actually enjoyed for once, which is good since the next game they're playing is going to be an absolute nightmare.  Please consider donating to the National Network of Abortion Funds: abortionfunds.org/donate If you've been enjoying the podcast, please consider supporting us at https://www.patreon.com/DeepListens If you like our new art and want to commission some of your own, reach out to Tyler at tylerorbin.net
