It's unofficially Summertime, in America. The perfect time to go inside, crank up the AC sit on your ass, and play video games all night long. Keep it to the night though because these long hot days are going to be wasted working and fighting fascism.  All independent podcasts must take a stand. As the sources to real news are being cut off, we will have to speak louder. The RPGrinders have never been ones to shy away from politics but we do need to make the time to talk gaming. It's important to everyone's mental health to have some form of release and have friends to communicate. As scary as things are we all need a mental distraction now and then.  Let us Grinders ease your minds for just a short time.  In years past, this is the time of year we would be celebrating E3 and tons of gaming announcements. Although E3 may be as dead as democracy, here in the US, the game companies still use this time of the year to make some of their biggest announcements. Just to name a few: Final Fantasy Tactics returns again, a new Blood Stained has been announced for 2026, and the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 remake is now coming to the Switch 2.  If a long day of fighting against tyranny gets too exhausting to even feel like gaming, let the Grinders pick which movie to veg. The newest instalment of the Final Destination series has been getting a lot of hype, but only Frank can tell you if it's truly worth the money. The biggest movie in the world, for about a week, was Jack Black starring Minecraft movie, but only Eric knows if it deserved to be #1. For the streaming crowd, the Miles Morales focused Across the Spiderverse is the middle part of a trilogy, but only BM knows if they should have stopped after the first movie.  As the usual, the Grinders have a ton of Stinkos but they do seem to be getting worse as this administration gains power and ignored our laws. Entire families are being disappeared into the night under the FALSE claims of gang activity. Rubber bullets are being shot at the media and PEACEFUL protestors. Women in anti-abortion states are now at an even greater risk of losing their lives as they are now without Federal protection. Cis gender women are being increasingly targeted for harassment and violence by not looking feminine enough to the eyes of the bigots. Trans men are being forced to use women's restrooms and are being subjected to violence and humiliation. This is NOT the kind of country in which I want to live!   Breath in. Breath out. Deep breaths. No more talk about the fall of freedom in America. We just wish everyone be safe! Now let's end this on a positive note. It's not all bad news for the Grinders as we all have new toys to enjoy. Frank and Eric were each able to get the Switch 2 on launch. We hope that everyone else who wanted a Switch 2 was able to get one. While a lot of gamers are enjoying a brand-new system, only Break is enjoying his brand-old new video game systems.                 Spent the last 20 minutes of the show asking for PS4 purchasing advice. Zero recommendations purchased. Fail.

Since we published our previous episode, Sony not only announced it was having a State of Play event, but that event has already happened. Thus, we have much to discuss throughout this lengthy episode, an unexpected surprise for the PlayStation faithful. In short, the most recent State of Play was a great showcase of nearly 30 upcoming PlayStation 5 games, with some PS4 and PSVR2 mixed in there, too. And -- for those that care -- more than a half-dozen of the games are PS5 console exclusive, nipping that entire argument in the bud. In the realm of Sony second party, we've learned about a Marvel-themed fighting game from Arc System Works called Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, while Tecmo Koei's Team Ninja is hard at work on Nioh 3. Elsewhere, we were given the first glimpse at IO Interactive's long-in-development James Bond game called First Light, a brand-new Lumines offering from the creators of Tetris Effect, the return of Capcom's seemingly-beleaguered Pragmata, something fresh from Grasshopper Manufacture called Romeo Is A Dead Man, a late-September release date for Silent Hill F, our first look at the sequel to Iga's Bloodstained, and -- yes indeed! -- confirmation of Final Fantasy Tactics coming to PlayStation in just a few months in the form of The Ivalice Chronicles. "No games?" Maybe if you don't like or play video games, perhaps. Other news this week includes our first look at Witcher 4 via a controversial UE5 tech demo, rumors of a native PS5 port for Red Dead Redemption 2, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Should 'game length' be considered a spoiler? How do we feel about pinball video games? Do we ever mess with the PSN's 'activity cards' while playing? Welcome to this week's episode of the Gaming Roundtable, where hosts Brian, Mark, Chrono, and Scrag dive into a significant week in gaming. The discussion kicks off with insights into the Nintendo Switch 2's launch, highlighting the excitement and the minor hiccup labeled as 'Staplegate' where GameStop's practice of stapling receipts led to some damaged screens. But not to worry, replacements are on the way! The hosts passionately explore the nostalgia-driven gaming landscape, questioning if games priced at a premium are sustainable and delving into the remaster of the beloved Final Fantasy Tactics. With Square Enix's collaboration with Yoshi P's studio, the remaster introduces enhanced visuals and voice acting, re-envisioning the classic tactical RPG experience for a new generation. The conversation shifts to the PlayStation State of Play, where a Marvel fighting game from Arc System Works and a retro Mortal Kombat collection spark interests and discussions on the evolution of game design over the years. This week's episode also features a closer look at the newfound ease of online gaming on Switch 2, comparing social features to those of other platforms, and reminiscing about missed midnight launches in the changing retail landscape. Join the Gaming Roundtable crew for an engaging chat on potential Final Fantasy 9 announcements, discussions around the future of VR, and the value of cross-progression and cross-play in gaming today. Whether you're a casual player or a hardcore enthusiast, there's something for everyone in this episode!

Patreon.com/RememberTheGame XCOM 2 has been lurking near the top of my "someday I'll play it" list for years, and I finally puled the trigger (no pun intended). After over 70 hours of sitting at my PC fighting aliens, I can safely say that XCOM 2 isn't just one of the best tactical RPGs I've ever played, but one of the best games I've ever played, period. If you've never played it, XCOM 2 is a tactical RPG, like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics. You move your soldiers around on a board game-esque grid, and take turns with the computer, who's doing the same with aliens and robots. But in between missions, you're traveling the world gathering resources and using them to upgrade both your troops and your ship. Aliens have taken over the planet, and it's up to you to take it back. It's a little tough to pick up out of the gate, but once you're over the hump, it's addictive as hell. My guest this week is the winner of our Extra-Life charity auction from last December, Robert. He picked this game and now I can see why. We get into the meat of XCOM 2, talk about the superb War of the Chosen DLC, talk about our favourite soldier/ability/equipment combinations, and laugh at the bulshit that is missing a 94% shot with your ass on the line. And before we save the world, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, we HAVE to talk a little Switch 2. How am I feeling about WrestleMania this year? And will OG Switch games be discounted after the Switch 2 drops? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 of the highest scored tactical RPGs on Metacritic: Valkyrie Chronicles, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, and Fire Emblem: Awakening. Learn more about your ad choices. KnockBack: The Retro and Nostalgia Podcast

In 1992, Final Fantasy V came to Super Famicom in Japan, but in the west, the seminal JRPG would remain a mystery for years. In 1999 (via PS1!) English-speaking audiences would gain access to the game for the first time (unless you played fan translations via emulator, of course), and since then -- whether on GBA, PC, phones, or more recently modern consoles -- FFV has always held an interesting place in the pantheon of great Final Fantasy titles. Is it as monumental as IV, VI, or VII? Not at all. But it's still extremely special in its own right, an adventure predicated on a robust jobs system that would later help inspire the likes of Final Fantasy Tactics, jobs utilized by a small core group of protagonists that stand the test of time (and pull at your heartstrings, too). For KnockBack's triumphant return, we thought we'd get back into the Pixel Remasters where we left off, and needless to say, we've got a lot to go over. So get in your airship, or on your chocobo, or whatever mode of transportation speaks to you most, and join us for another old-school chat. Learn more about your ad choices. This week, we delve into the ever-evolving world of MMORPGs in 2025, focusing on major developments and upcoming trends that could reshape the genre. The episode kicks off with a deep dive into World of Warcraft's ambitious new player housing system. We explore how Blizzard aims to redefine housing in MMORPGs by leveraging advanced technology, addressing past challenges, and what it could mean for the future of WoW and its community. We also compare it with Final Fantasy XIV's housing system, highlighting potential strengths and drawbacks. This has been an exciting week in Sacred Symbols World. We're riding high off of our two hour interview with ex-Sony executive Shuhei Yoshida, and we're eager to reminisce and reflect on it. (You can watch or listen for yourself on Sacred Symbols+.) But as far as news is concerned? Well, this week is a little slower than most, which is why we packed extra listener inquiries into the show, and still covered what was there: Fresh rumors of a Tony Hawk 3+4 Remastered Collection, leaker updates concerning Square Enix's remakes of Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy Tactics, clarity on HBO's seasonal plans with The Last of Us, the potential emergence of a major Rainbow Six Siege update, and much more. As usual, we then round things out with listener inquiries on a variety of subjects. What are our thoughts about the recent layoffs on the Marvel Rivals team? Does SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku run the risk of overexposing the Yakuza/Like A Dragon franchise? Why are many creators so eager to politically and socially alienate their audiences? To enter Season 6's final episode is to bid goodbye to the light of day. If you accept, we're referencing other Final Fantasies games in bullshit missions, letting someone else explore Midlight's Deep, slaying the hell magician, fighting in fart gas, destroying more jobbers, bending knees to demons, trying to kickstart Virgo, wanting for blood, identifying the universal pervert endgame, sealing off the pervert portal, marveling at the airship graveyard, wearing thong for the ultimate battle, winning the game, gathering at a grave, and remaining pure of heart at the end. You know nothing, Beowulf. You know we're inventing additional antagonists for unnecessary sidequests, re-dragoning someone for a kidnapping plot, walking into an obvious trap, treating with steel, literally casting doubt, stealing a lady back from a pervert priest, debating belief vs fornication, nervously crafting a birthday scheme, overdoing the poop metaphors, costing a goodly amount, looking odd, unlocking the secrets of giant books, leaving behind ignorance, and casting open the very gates of hell. Lives and levels, or men and boards? How about pods and casts, featuring us dropping in on perverts, murdering clergy members, slingin' blood off a sword, remaining lawful, observing an indoor turd river, picking up a book, exposing craven cowards, returning to the father, serving death by steel, reborning a brother, re-killing a brother, pumping a dying guy for information, refusing to join a princess party, slipping a secret knife, taking what's due, and returning to where it all started: robbing poor people. Here's a souvenir for you on the way to hell. It's a podcast, one in which we're appreciating sprite animation, frustrating the high confessor's plot, working to see queens made for true, pretending to leave the room, rendezvousing with perverts, resisting every scenario, screaming in the dark, naming that mushroom, adding a Cletienne scene, going to the gods, exceeding our feeble capacities, creating the circle of trust, passing strange, jumping in a brother-based triple threat match, and using mimes for both benefit and determinant. What devilry is this? It's a podcast, once in which we're wading in rebirth, boasting the brain of a dullard, fighting an old foe who died but didn't, indulging in gratuity, interrupting pervert preparation, hanging a bag of teeth, refusing to acknowledge death, unpossessing numen, thinking of our sire's flesh, becoming a blood member of darkness, wondering if stones can pervert perverts, and recruiting someone to kill their father. Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we conclude our series on Heroes of Might and Magic. We confess that we should have learned more about this game before we tried it, and then turn to takeaways and email. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Waypoint, Austin Walker, Patrick Klepek, Danielle Riendeau, MegaMan, GTA III, Final Fantasy Tactics, Kaeon, Dwarf Fortress, Artimage, The Sims, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Smash Brothers, NES/SNES, Apple ][, Lode Runner, Wizardry, Final Fantasy VI, Ubisoft, Jurassic Park, Jeff Goldblum, Slay the Spire, Civilization, X-COM, Warhammer, Andrew Kirmse, mysterydip, Bethesda Game Studios/Zenimax, Notch, Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Battlefront, Battlezone, Jeffool, Red vs Blue, Quake, Tacoma, PUBG, LucasArts, Father Beast, Margot Robbie, Barbie, Ashton Herrmann, Lords of Magic, Lords of the Realm, Stonekeep, Interplay, Day of the Tentacle, Burn: Cycle, Phantasmagoria, Tony Rowe, Trespasser, Bill Roper, Warcraft, Diablo, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia.  Next time: TBA! Let's away before we're found. Now there is a podcast I had not thought to find in these wastes! Bathe with us in the muck as we're learning from Matsuno why Orators get guns, possessing powerful evidence of the church's misdeeds, staying two steps ahead, acting as expected, dropping spores in the wind, respecting the constitution, only understanding transactional relationships, excusing Orlandeau from villainous plotting, picking the same wall, resisting the poison, double-gripping the stabby knife, hacking blood up all over ourselves, and merging the templars with the perverts.
