As God’s people, would you agree one of our greatest challenges is figuring out how to live God honoring lives in the places in our world where our governments are fully opposed to God, God’s Truth, God’s Purposes and even God’s people! Do you often pray for Christian people who live in such places? Perhaps you live in a place where you still feel reasonably free to worship God, own a Bible and even speak of Jesus, yet probably, if you look closely, you can see significant spiritual shifts happening as influential people, or even your government leaders, seem to be pushing God OUT of your society. Come with me back to Jerusalem in about 722bc and we’ll see it was happening there! (Click here to see full text, images and links) Today’s Scripture: 2 Chron.28:22-25. The beautiful book of Deuteronomy, and the Torah, come to an end this week on a rather depressing note. But we know the rest of the story—what Moses and Joshua died not knowing. We admire their courage and faithfulness to God. We can also rejoice that the children of Israel are back in their homeland today and will realize all of God's promises to their forefathers. So we rejoice over the Torah and the revelation of God and His ways found in it.
A new MP3 sermon from The Narrated Puritan is now available on SermonAudio with the following details: Title: Crying Out to God Out of the Depths Subtitle: John Owen - Forgiveness of Sin Speaker: John Owen Broadcaster: The Narrated Puritan Event: Audiobook Date: 9/18/2023 Bible: Psalm 130:1-2 Length: 31 min.
Throughout Deuteronomy Moses continues to command the children of Israel to obey the terms of their covenant with God, and in return, they would be blessed. The choice is theirs's whether to live such a way as to enjoy blessing or to live under a curse. But their obedience was not about simple legalistic ritual—it was about clinging to their God with a heart of love.
The children of Israel had a special calling and relationship with God—not because they were any more special than other people but because of God's promises to their forefathers. They had been chosen long before, and their forefathers had entered a covenant with God. If they would live in obedience to the commandments—the terms of their covenant—they would be blessed. You and I can walk in those same blessings through Jesus because God is the same—He never changes, and He rewards those who walk in love and obedience with Him.

A Prayer In Times Of Waiting, When God Says Wait.6 Ways to Wait for God's Answer to Your Prayers:1. Don't stop praying.David, the great shepherd-king of Israel, earned a Ph.D. in waiting on God. He wrote and sang of it often:I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me and heard my cry (Psalm 40:1, NASB).Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord (Psalm 27:14, NASB).Indeed, none of those who wait for You will be ashamed (Psalm 25:3, NASB).Who better, then, to show us how to wait on God than David and his Psalm 130? Psalm 130 is a prayer from beginning to end. David pours out his heart to God:Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord.Lord, hear my voice!Let Your ears be attentiveTo the voice of my supplications (Psalm 130:1-2, NASB).Waiting on God is not a cessation of prayer, a pause but intensification. If we are waiting on God we are, if anything, more active in prayer than we were before. 2. Examine yourself. As he waits, David's thoughts turn inward, reflecting on the status of his heart and life and reminding himself of God's fondness for forgiveness:If You, Lord, should mark iniquities,O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You,That You may be feared (Psalm 130:3-4, NASB).While we wait on God, we also search our own hearts to confess any sin that may hinder an answer or make any surrender that will further align us with God's plans and purpose. 3. Focus and refocus your heart, soul and mind.David doesn't spend his time twiddling his thumbs or pacing the floor; he focuses his thoughts and aligns himself with God's word:I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait,And in His word do I hope (Psalm 130:5, NASB).Waiting on God often involves reading and repeating God's word and focusing our thoughts on “what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable….[and thinking] about things that are excellent and worthy of praise” (Philippians 4:8, NLT).4. Keep your eyes and heart open and alert.Waiting on God requires a heightened attentiveness and watchfulness in which you scan your surroundings, circumstances, conversations and “coincidences” for clues and indications of God's answer on the horizon:My soul waits for the LordMore than the watchmen for the morning;Indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning (Psalm 130:6, NASB).A watchman on the walls of a city was constantly searching the horizon and scanning the landscape for movement. The soul who waits on God will be similarly alert for hints and harbingers of God at work.5. Keep trusting, reminding and hoping.Even as he waits, David reminds himself and those around him of who God is, what God has done and why they should continue to hope in Him:O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is lovingkindness,And with Him is abundant redemption (Psalm 130:7, NASB).6. Keep going.Too often when we are waiting on God—or think we are—we tense and freeze and stop progressing. But God is just as able to close doors and pathways as He is to open them. So rather than choosing inaction, we who wait on God can keep moving ahead, trusting as David did that God will guide our steps as we go:And He will redeem IsraelFrom all his iniquities (Psalm 130:8, NASB). We'll be honest - we thought there was no way that we were going to be able to post this episode. Because of a series of unfortunate investments (I guess last week was a bad time to go all-in on United?) and gambling addictions, we were dead broke and didn't think we could afford the basic podcasting fees. But just when Mr. Willoughby from the bank was ready to foreclose on us, Jeff's eccentric rich uncle died and left him $1 million! Does that garbage ending make you mad? Then prepare for a whole episode of that feeling, since we're talking the Mt. Rushmore of Deus ex Machinas! We get into times when something completely out of nowhere manages to save the hero or wrap up the story. Make sure you listen until the end, when we find the "Make Your Podcast Famous" button on our mixer and become bigger than Marc Maron or that guy who's been stalking Richard Simmons! SHOW NOTES 00:00 - Introduction 03:22 - Michael's Choice: "Batman '66" - Batman and Robin are saved from a torpedo by an off-screen dolphin. 07:59 - Richard's Choice: "Signs" - Where the aliens are allergic to water after landing on a planet that is 70% water. 14:07 - Michael's Choice: "The Wizard of Oz" - The Wicked Witch of the West just happens to melt when making contact with water. 18:01 - Richard's Choice: "Toy Story 3" - The toys are saved from the incinerator by the Green Aliens using The Claw.
