Why does God allow things in our lives to go off script? This week on The Breakdown Podcast, Matthew Rhoads sat down with Pastor James to break down his message "What If You're Reading the Story Wrong?" rooted in Genesis 42, Psalm 121:1–2, and Hebrews 12:2. They talk about the story we often create in the middle of crisis—and how the chapter we call a setback may actually be part of how God moves us forward. Looking at Joseph's brothers returning to Egypt and Jacob's fear of sending Benjamin, we unpack how fear, uncertainty, and pain can distort the way we see what God is doing. But even when life feels off script, God may still be writing a greater story than we can see in the moment. If you've been struggling to understand a difficult season or questioning why God allowed things to unfold the way they did, this conversation will help you shift your perspective and trust that God is still at work. Why does God allow for things in our life's to go off script?  In "What If You're Reading The Story Wrong," Pastor James talks about the story we create in the middle of crisis, when things go off script, is often the wrong one. Through the story of Joseph's brother returning to Egypt and Jacob's hesitancy to send his youngest son, Benjamin, Genesis 42 provides insight on the idea that the chapter of life we call a crisis may be used to move forward in ways you never had anticipated.  Everyone helping someone take steps to follow Christ. Weddings, Senior Rings, Tipping, Travel Etiquette, and the "Harrowing of Hell" Explained | Divinely Uninspired Podcast On the Divinely Uninspired podcast from Journey Church, the Penny, Jeremy, and Paul banter about Forrest Frank's reggae song "Yahweh," then debate whether weddings are fun and criticize the average 2026 wedding cost of $36,000, expensive barn venues, pricey photographers, and mediocre reception food, plus long best-man speeches. They call senior rings and "wedding" upcharges scams, discuss cheaper Walmart class rings, and pivot to the Met Gala and high-fashion hype like Supreme. The conversation turns to travel, including tipping hotel housekeeping, rising tipping expectations in restaurants, losing Spirit Airlines, paying to avoid middle seats, and airport/airplane etiquette (bare feet, speakerphone, rushing the exit). They mention the Yuka food-scanning app, then discuss Mel Gibson's Passion sequel and the "harrowing of hell," with Jeremy arguing it lacks strong biblical/theological support, leading into broader uncertainty about the afterlife, hell imagery, Revelation, and focusing more on living like Jesus than end-times minutiae. 00:00 Loose Intro Banter 00:19 Forrest Frank Reggae Talk 01:29 Naming Kids After Stars 01:53 Were Our Weddings Fun?  04:21 Wedding Costs Shock 05:05 Barn Venues Photo Scam 08:20 Reception Food Stories 09:13 Best Man Speech Fails 11:19 Graduation Rings Scam 13:47 Met Gala Fashion Rant 18:03 Beards Mustaches Debate 20:02 Hotel Tipping Etiquette 24:03 Airlines Seats Airport Rules 27:12 Mesh Shorts Debate 28:44 Breakaway Pants Nostalgia 28:55 Pajamas vs Sweatpants 30:24 Airport Etiquette Rants 32:08 Tarmac and Private Planes 34:46 Yuka App Food Scans 35:20 Harrowing of Hell Explained 40:19 What Happens After Death 42:17 Hell Dante and Rapture 51:34 Revelation vs Loving People 54:48 Bible Movies Wish List 58:11 Wrap Up and Callbacks

The Bible reminds us that the earth and its fullness thereof belong entirely to the Lord. We aren't owners; we are stewards. When we shift our perspective from ownership to stewardship, it changes everything about how we handle our time, our talents, and our resources. Jesus challenges us to look honestly at what has been placed in our hands and asks a defining question for our faith: what are you doing with what God gave you? Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor | May 17, 2026 9am Referenced Scripture: John 14:6, Ephesians 2:8-9, Colossians 3:12, 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 Reflection Questions:1. In your experience of our culture, what do people tend to appreciate about Jesus and what do they find difficult about Jesus? 2. Read John 14:6 — Why does Jesus' exclusive claim cause resistance in our culture? How have you experienced people's response to the exclusivity of Jesus? Explain. 3. Gandhi said, “Religions are different roads converging to the same point. What does it matter that we take a different road, so long as we reach the same goal? Wherein is the cause for quarreling?” — What makes this view from Ghandi more popular and a more acceptable way to look at differing religions and worldviews? 4. “All religions basically teach the same thing.” (Agree/Disagree) Why? Explain. What are some ways that different religions can overlap? 5. Law of Non-Contradiction: Contradictory propositions cannot both be true in the same sense at the same time. Put Aristotle's law in your own words. Does this make sense to you? Why or why not? Give an example of how this is true. 6. What are some core truth claims of different world religions that are contradictory to one another? Does it make sense to you that they can't all be true at the same time? Why or why not? 7. What are some core truth claims of Jesus and Christianity? How could someone investigate if these claims are true? Are you convinced of the truth claims of Jesus? Why or why not? 8. What are some unique beliefs of Christianity that are different from other world religions? 9. Read Ephesians 2:8-9 — Put this verse in your own words. Why is the concept of grace unique from other world religions? Explain why salvation is the work of God and not the work of people? What is our role in salvation? Why is boasting not a response to grace? 10. How does the exclusivity of the message of Christianity create urgency to share the message with the world? What is the posture of a Jesus follower that is communicating the message of salvation? (Read Colossians 3:12) 11. Why is there no room for arrogance in the posture of a follower of Jesus sharing the message of Jesus 12. How is God nudging you to take a next step as a result of this message? Brian Priebe | Executive Pastor | May 10, 2026 Referenced Scripture: Acts 17:16-27Reflection Questions:1. What's one thing that stood out to you from the sermon and why? 2. How would you describe your relationship with science? 3. What are Biblical examples of how science and faith can come into contact? 4. One of Brian's main points was that believers need to use the right tools for the right tasks as we share our faith. What examples of this do you see throughout the Bible or even just in regular life? 5. Brian's focal point was that science best answers questions related to HOW the natural world works and faith best answers questions related to WHY the natural world is. Do you agree or disagree? Why? 6. Read Acts 17:16-27 What elements of Paul's interactions with the Athenians offer clues to how we might engage people that have a science bend? 7. What would the church look like if everyone took Paul's cues in interacting with people outside the faith, especially those where science is most influential? 8. What are your thoughts around Genesis 1 and the definition of a day? 9. Brian cited the use of Yom as the Hebrew word for day in Genesis 1 as also being the same word describing various periods of time. He referenced Genesis 2:2, 4:3, 43:9 and 44:32. What do you think about the various uses of Yom in Genesis? 10. What might be a next step for you related to the interaction of science and faith and the people in your sphere? She recounts how an initial call to adopt led to deep relationships in Malawi, the launch of a nonprofit, and God's provision—highlighted by an unexpected $50,000 gift that enabled their first medical facility. The mission has expanded to cyclone and flood relief, business training centers, well repairs, partnerships with about 35 schools, and local church support. In Mark 8, Jesus asks His disciples the most important question ever posed: "Who do you say that I am?" This pivotal moment marks a shift from public ministry to intimate discipleship preparation. Through three powerful miracles - feeding 4,000 people, healing a blind man in stages, and the profound questioning at Caesarea Philippi - Jesus reveals His sufficiency for all people and challenges partial spiritual vision. Peter correctly identifies Jesus as the Messiah, but struggles when Jesus explains His coming suffering. Jesus calls His followers to pick up their cross and follow Him, demonstrating that discipleship means dying to self and allowing Him complete access to every area of life.

What if the most dangerous moments in your life don't feel dangerous at all? This week on The Breakdown, Matthew Rhoads sat down with Pastor James to break down his message "The Most Dangerous Moment Doesn't Feel Dangerous," rooted in Genesis 39:1–12 and James 1:14. We talk about how the biggest battles aren't always around us—but within us—and how temptation often shows up as a shortcut that seems harmless in the moment. Together, we unpack how temptation works, why it's so deceptive, and what it looks like to stay grounded in truth when you're pulled in the wrong direction. If you've ever felt the tension between what's easy and what's right, this conversation will help you recognize the danger and choose the path that leads to life. This week on The Breakdown, Matthew Rhoads sat down with Pastor James to break down his message "This Doesn't Make Sense… But What If It's God?" rooted in Genesis 37:3–11, 18–24, and 28. We walk through Joseph's story and how God often starts something long before we fully understand it. We talk about what happens when dreams face resistance, opposition grows, and control slips through your hands—and how none of that cancels what God is doing. Instead, it may be part of how He's shaping your story. This is a series of parables (fictional stories with kingdom truth) of the Kingdom of God! In this message, we dive into one of Jesus' most challenging teachings, about how important the F word is to the Kingdom of Heaven: FORGIVENESS!How many times are we required to forgive? Peter thought seven was generous, but Jesus raises the stakes. This parable reveals that our ability to forgive others is directly tied to our understanding of how much we have been forgiven by God. Vern Streeter  |  Guest Speaker  |  April 12, 2026 Referenced Scripture:  Joshua 2, Matthew 1:5-6, Hebrews 10:31, James 2:25-26   Reflection Questions: 1. The story of Rahab is well known. She is famous. Did you learn anything new? How was the sermon on Joshua 2 impactful for you?   2. What difference does it make in your life that, like Rahab stated, “…the Lord your God, is God in heaven above and on earth below.” (Joshua 2:11)   3. Isn't it interesting that Rahab is celebrated in the New Testament by Matthew, Hebrews, and James? (Matthew 1:5-6; Hebrews 11:31; James 2:25-26) Why do you think James uses Rahab as an example of “Faith without works is dead?”    4. Right now, are you hanging tightly to a rope that is being lowered by someone else – why and who is on the Rahab end of the rope?  And, who are you lowering – who is depending on you for their spiritual life? That's a lot of responsibility. How can we help you stay strong for someone you care about?    5. Bonus discussion: Vern said Rahab did a bad thing but did the right thing. How is that possible? Can you think of other similar circumstances? Have you ever faced such an ethical dilemma?    6. A mind-bending morality-challenging deeper dive: Ethicists offer three main views:      A. The “Lie was sinful but used by God” view. * Rahab did the right thing (protecting life) * But used a wrong method (lying – a violation of the 9th commandment) * God honored her faith despite moral imperfection. This keeps moral absolutes intact.      B. The “Higher moral law” view. * Protecting life is more important that telling the truth. This is called “graded absolutism.”      C. The “Wartime ethics” view * She lied in a time of war. * Deception in war (like espionage) is not morally equivalent to everyday lying. This is military resistance, not private morality. Discuss!   7. From this, what do we learn about God and His relationship with us? That's all very interesting and worth discussing, but please don't let it overshadow the call on your life to not “drop the rope” for the people depending on you…   What's your next step?  * Connect: We'd love to connect with you! What is your observation of the “cancel culture” that we live in today? How would you describe “cancel culture”? What are some examples you have seen of people today being cancelled? Would you say that cancelling people is fair or unfair? Explain your answer. How might it feel to be cancelled by the world around you? 2. Big Idea: Jesus did not come to cancel people, but to cancel sin.Read Colossians 2:13-14, John 3:16-18How does it feel to know that Jesus has cancelled your sin but will never cancel you? How can we know that Jesus will never cancel us? How does this change how we might respond to our failures in this life? 3. When you reflect on the resurrection of Jesus what gives you hope and encourages your heart? 4. Read Philippians 3:10-11How have you experienced the power of the resurrection in your life? (ie. How has your life changed? How have you experienced a growing relationship with Jesus? How have you seen the power of Jesus at work in your life?) 5. Paul says that part of knowing Jesus is participating in the same kind of suffering that He experienced. What kind of suffering did Jesus experience in his life? Why can this be a comforting thought when we are experiencing pain and suffering and loss in our life? Why is it important to understand that that suffering is a normal part of knowing and walking with Jesus? 6. Read 1 Corinthians 15:20Jesus' physical resurrection is called the first fruits of our resurrection. What does this verse mean? Reflect on the reality that you will be given a physical body for all of eternity that will not age, decay, get sick, experience pain or loss, suffering, or death…What thoughts does this bring to mind? How does that hit you emotionally? What questions does it raise for you? What hope does this give us? Why? What's your next step? * Connect: We'd love to connect with you! Logan Holloman | Next Gen Pastor | March 29, 2026 Referenced Scripture: Matthew 21:6-11, Acts 4:12 Reflection Questions:1. When you hear that “Hosanna” means “save us,” what do you feel like you most need saving from right now—externally or internally? 2. What are some things you tend to look towards for security, identity, or relief (control, approval, success, relationships, etc.)? 3. Was there a moment in your life (like the story shared in the sermon) that shaped what you now “look to” for worth or validation? 4. How does the picture of Jesus entering on a donkey—humble, not forceful—challenge or reshape your expectations of God? 5. As we move toward Easter, what would it look like for you to “turn toward Jesus” in a real, practical way this week? What's your next step? * Connect: We'd love to connect with you! What are you still holding onto that's holding you back? This week on The Breakdown, Matthew Rhoads sat down with Pastor James to break down his message "Release the Weight," rooted in Hebrews 12:14–15, Romans 12:2, Hebrews 4:15–16, and Ephesians 2:4–5. We talk about how hurt doesn't stay hidden—it grows, shaping how you think, respond, and relate to others. Together, we unpack what it looks like to face what's been buried, bring it to God, and finally release the weight you've been carrying. If you're tired of holding onto pain, bitterness, or past wounds, this conversation will help you take a step toward healing, freedom, and renewal. Most leaders have heard that coaching is valuable. Fewer have seen what it actually looks like from the inside. In this episode Alan Briggs and Jonathan Collier pull back the curtain on a real coaching relationship, using clips from Alan's conversations with Daryl Smith, gathering pastor at The Journey Church in Newark Delaware, to show what Healthy AND High Impact leadership looks like when someone does the work. Daryl stepped into a bigger role with real weight and made a decision: he was not going to just survive it. What happened next is exactly what H2 Leadership is all about. In this episode: Why stepping into a new role is one of the most common entry points into coaching and what separates leaders who thrive in the transition from those who just endure it The counterintuitive move that changes everything: why slowing down is the most high impact thing a fast-moving leader can do The org chart story: how Daryl went from sitting on an idea for six months to presenting it to his lead team in seven days and why his lead pastor is still referencing it today A full walkthrough of the Start Stop Keep tool and the five questions that helped Daryl step into 2026 with momentum, confidence, and direction What Daryl said about how coaching changed his marriage, his relationship with his kids, and his presence at home The line that will stay with you: Coaching helped Daryl listen to God more clearly, lead people more wisely, and live more honestly. That is Healthy AND High Impact in a single sentence. This episode is for the leader who: Just stepped into a bigger role and is figuring it out as they go Is grinding toward high impact but knows their health is taking the hit Has been thinking about coaching but has not pulled the trigger yet Connect with H2 Leadership: Website: h2leadership.com Leave a review on Apple Podcasts and help other leaders find the show
