The Devils scored eight goals yesterday to get back into their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Hurricanes, the most goals scored by a team so far in this year's playoffs. Last year's high was nine goals, by the Flames against the Oilers… while the Oilers also scored eight against the Kings and gave up eight to the Avalanche.Big goal totals do happen in the playoffs, but the Devils became the first team in 11 years to put a snowman on the scoreboard when they were behind in a playoff series? Last time, I (Jesse) was actually there, at the absolutely bonkers 10-3 Penguins rout of the Flyers, which avoided a sweep but didn't stop Philly from advancing in six games. That was the third straight game with eight-plus goals in that series, as the Flyers scored eight apiece in Games 2 and 3.Two years earlier was the last time a team got down in a series, scored eight in a game, and went on to win the series. I was at that one too — Game 3 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final, when the Bruins, after a pair of one-goal losses in Vancouver, destroyed the Canucks, 8-1, in Game 3.For the Devils? Their last — and only previous — eight-goal playoff game was a 10-4 pounding of the Washington Capitals in the 1988 Patrick Division Finals, including hat tricks for Patrik Sundstrom and Mark Johnson.Beating the Capitals got the Devils a date with the Bruins in the Wales Conference finals, and that was the series that gave us “have another donut,” from Jim Schoenefeld to Don Koharski, 35 years ago this past weekend. Welcome BACK to yet another exciting season of The No-Till Market Garden Podcast. As mentioned at the end of last season, I--Jesse--will not be hosting this year. My role now is more of a producer for the suite of podcasts and work we publish at No-Till Growers. I'm excited to introduce the second host, Alex Ball of Old City Acres! We are big fans of Alex's work and in this mini-interview we muse on the progression and evolution of our respective farms. He's gong to bring a lot to the host seat because of his interest in the details surrounding what it takes to run a successful farm business, which is something I felt was lacking in my own approach. Alex is someone you can listen to and talk to for hours, he's a lot of fun, and we can't wait for his contribution to the podcast. Alex's first interview will be coming out next Monday. As always, our work is powered by the folks who support us every month over at patreon.com/notillgrowers, you can pick up a copy of The Living Soil Handbook if you don't have one already, and you can ask you questions or share your insights into ecological market gardening on our brand new forum at notillgrowers.community.chat
Welcom BACK to yet another exciting season of The No-Till Market Garden Podcast. As mentioned at the end of last season, I--Jesse--will not be hosting this year. My role now is more of a producer for the suite of podcasts we publish at No-Till Growers. It's been super fun and I've greatly enjoyed listening behind the scenes to these first interviews with our new hosts. Speaking of new hosts, we want to start introducing them to you one by one over the next few weeks, beginning with the one and only Mimi Casteel of Hope Well Vineyard. Mimi's first interview will be coming out next Monday, officially kicking off season FIVE. Surprise! If you follow me on Instagram, or Facebook, or Money Saving Mom - you already got the inside scoop. We already announced the big news, but on the podcast, we get to tell the story behind the news. On today's episode we are sharing what is saving our lives, what books we are reading, and the story behind our big news. I always feel like we have had a few full weeks, especially when we have guests on the show. I did another Fresh Ground of Faith event. I went to Illinois with Jennifer Rothchild. Jesse kept multiple children alive but he didn't get very much sleep in the process. We may decide that we are going to hold off on doing this type of thing in the near future because it was disrupt for the kids' habits and routines. Plus Baby D has a new surgery coming up but we are going to have Jesse stay overnight with him and I will come back home. We get a lot of books in the mail, probably because of our podcast, that they want us to read and talk about it. But this book Friendship, It's Complicated: Avoid the Drama, Create Authentic Connection, and Fulfil Your Purpose Together by Andi Andrew caught my eye. I am liking the book so far and working on some areas of my life that I have been making progress in the last few years. But I have only just begun and I may not agree with everything that is still to come. While Jesse is still listening to the Pike Logan Series by Brad Taylor.. Jesse makes reference to a book that we read a long time ago about layering habits and applying reading to this lesson. If you think you don't have habits or time to read a book, maybe try listening to a book as you are doing some of your other habits/routines. We are working towards adopting Baby D.So some months back, we were preparing our hearts to say goodbye to him. And the family that was going to adopt him, was everything we could have hoped for in a family that would be perfect. But they started having doubts and we could see God's hand in this change. The transition for him and for our family was just a lot of mixed emotions. But we know this is the right decision and we will keep you posted. It may be about 6 months but this is foster care and anything can happen. In This Episode [00:37] - Welcome to The Crystal Paine Show today we are sharing some pretty big news. [01:21] - So if you haven't guessed, Jesse you want to share our big news. [02:05] - Jesse, you had an eventful 24 hours. [04:27] - Well I have a book that I've been reading. It's called Friendship, It's Complicated: Avoid the Drama, Create Authentic Connection, and Fulfil Your Purpose Together. It's by Andi Andrew. [06:36] - She (Andi) talks about your relationship with your mom and how that can affect your relationship with other women. And it's made me think a lot of how I'm interacting with our girls. [07:16] - I (Jesse) am continuing on listening to the audiobook series from Brad Taylor. [08:39] - Look for those little pockets of time and check out Libby and Hoopla. [10:53] - I have no segway for this. [11:01] - What's saving our life this week and that's Yum Earth Suckers. [12:59] - We want to share this story, unexpected story, of us pursuing adoption. Obviously it is foster care and things can always change. [14:22] - I felt us falling so in love with him and yet I saw it as such an honor to get to serve as the in-between. [16:59] - Adoption wasn't on the table for us. [19:03] - Whereas down syndrome, there are some many question marks and some many unknowns. [20:10] - We had been preparing our hearts for goodbye and what the next step, the next chapter of our foster care journey was going to be. And so then, it was this mental and emotional whiplash. [22:12] - I sat down with her (Katie Reid) and I asked her because she is an adoptive mama, and I asked her a few questions but I remember that she looked at me and she said, “does he feel like your son?”. Welcome to the first episode of The Dustbin, a bonus show in the Steady Diet of Music universe in which we examine albums that received notable critical acclaim in their time, but have since fallen out of favor. Do they deserve to be rediscovered by modern listeners, or should they remain in the dustbin of musical history? In this first episode, we discuss Graham Parker & The Rumour's "Squeezing Out Sparks", a 1979 album with the dubious honor of having—by a considerable margin—fewer Spotify plays than any other winner of the Village Voice's "Pazz & Jop" poll. Does its combination of tightly-wound rock arrangements and surly, adenoidal vocals still worth listening to today? Join your hosts Brandon and Jesse as we discuss. Content warning: A discussion of "You Can't Be Too Strong", a strikingly unsympathetic song about abortion, from 25:40 to 34:05. Also, I (Jesse) am annoyed with myself for referring to the anti-choice faction as "pro-life" at one point. Old framings die hard. Amanda and I (Jesse) travel to WonderCon to attend Saturday and Sunday of the convention. We've never attended more than one day so this was awesome. One day full of panels and another day that consisted of wandering the convention floor (with some panels sprinkled in the middle). We sidetrack a few times covering some other current events and also talk about some of our adventures outside the convention halls. Thanks for listening.
I (Jesse) recently chatted with one of my favorite ecophilosophers, bloggers, and youtubers, Matthew David Segall. Matthew is a a doctoral candidate in philosophy and religion at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, CA. His knowledge of the history of philosophy is expansive and the synthetic approach exemplified in his work is imperative and extremely valuable. We cover a ton of topics including Matthew's spiritual and philosophical influences/background, his transition from scientistic atheism to Buddhism to Western Esoteric Hermetic Christianity, his understanding of the relationship between science, philosophy and religion in the west, his interest in Carl Jung, Whitehead, Schelling, and esoteric thinker Rudolph Steiner and how they exhibit what Matt calls "etheric imagination." We also talk about science and art, psychedelics, consciousnesses and Eucharist, capitalism and the ecological crisis and the talk he'll be giving at the upcoming Whitehead conference in Claremont this summer. Welcome to a special bonus episode of Unfolded. Matt and I (Jesse) decided that it would be cool to give folks a peek under the hood, so to speak.
