W kwietniu 2026 roku Rwanda będzie obchodziła 32. rocznicę traumatycznego ludobójstwa. Między 7 kwietnia, a 17 lipca 1994 roku, w ciągu zaledwie stu dni, od 800 tysięcy do miliona Tutsi i Hutu zostało zmasakrowanych. Byliśmy w Miejscu Pamięci Ludobójstwa, a także w Rwanda Art Museum ze szczątkami zestrzelonego samolotu prezydenckiego i Kandt House Museum, dawnej rezydencji pierwszego niemieckiego gubernatora. Zajrzeliśmy do Hotelu Rwanda, a właściwie Hotel des Mille Collines, ikonicznego miejsca rozsławionego przez film. Odwiedziliśmy też jezioro Kiwu, zaliczane do pięciu Wielkich Jezior Afrykańskich, leżące co prawda w pięknym otoczeniu lasów deszczowych, ale nazywane „jeziorem-zabójcą”. Odpowiedzieliśmy również na pytanie, jak to się stało, że Rwanda jest jednym z najczystszych krajów świata. Wybraliśmy się na wyspy owianego legendą jeziora Titicaca, najwyżej położonego jeziora na świecie. Ten region jest kolebką kultury Tiahuanaco, najbardziej wpływowej cywilizacji preinkaskiej. To chyba numer jeden na mapie zabytków archeologicznych na świecie. Byliśmy na wyglądającej jak namalowana Tęczowej Górze na wysokości 5 tysięcy m n.p.m., a także w amazońskiej dżungli, gdzie żyją łowcy głów. Gościem Jerzego Jopa była Grażyna Woźniczka, współtwórczyni i współwłaścicielka Polka Travel, kulturoznawca, latynoamerykanistka i filolog.

Choć badania nad ostatnią wielką cywilizacją Ameryki Południowej trwają od setek lat, wciąż ma ona wiele tajemnic.Na terenach dzisiejszego Peru przed Inkami kwitło wiele państw i kultur, jak choćby kultura Nazca związana z tajemniczymi liniami i obrazami na słynnym płaskowyżu. Wybraliśmy się w podróż Centralną Koleją Transandyjską, najwyżej położoną linią kolejową świata, zbudowaną przez Polaka, Ernesta Malinowskiego. Na naszej trasie znalazły się wyspy Ballestas i Kanion Colca, najgłębszy kanion na świecie, w którego odkryciu i spopularyzowaniu kluczową rolę odegrali Polacy.Gościem Jerzego Jopa była Grażyna Woźniczka, współtwórczyni i współwłaścicielka Polka Travel, kulturoznawca, latynoamerykanistka i filolog.

Szukając magicznych miejsc w Ameryce Łacińskiej nie sposób pominąć dwóch malowniczych miast w Andach, które zachwycają swoim kolonialnym urokiem i bogatą historią. Są one niekwestionowanymi skarbami kultury, a spacerując po nich poczuliśmy się, jakbyśmy się cofnęli w czasie. Stare miasto w Quito jest uznawane za najlepiej zachowane w całej Ameryce Łacińskiej. For example, heme malignancies (ALL, AML, etc.) have more intense chemo and are at higher risk of neutropenic fever To qualify as a neutropenic fever, a patient must have one recorded temperature greater than 38.3 degrees C or be over 38 degrees C for one hour. The severity of the neutropenic fever is established by the absolute neutrophil count. Abs neutrophil count under 1500 is mild, less than 1000 is moderate, less than 500 is severe. Also look at monocytes (cell that becomes a macrophage). Less than 200 is very concerning What is the workup and treatment? Obtain a panculture (culture blood from both arms and all indwelling lines), obtain urine culture, and get a chest x-ray. Do not preform a rectal exam or obtain a rectal core temperature. This could cause bacteremia. Treat with Cefepime (broad range and includes pseudomonas but not MRSA). If there is concern for MRSA add vancomycin.
