Welcome back! We are in a mini-series of two shows. These are my favorite shows where I get to bring you the best of the best around a certain topic. Today we're talking about how to make decisions and discern God's nudges. I'm bringing you some brilliant friends with lightbulb moments and action steps for us. Today we have - Emily P. Freeman, Andi Andrew, Havilah Cunnington, and Shauna Nieqiest. We're diving into everything from making big decisions, and navigating change well, to hearing God, and how to find your unique way. I'm not here to brag, but it's a killer “best of” kind of show today! Join us as we learn about: Making big decisions with Emily P. Freeman Navigating grief that comes with change with Andi Andrew Hearing God's voice with Havilah Cunnington Finding our next self as life is changing with Shauna Niequist Favorite quotes: 4:31 - Emily - “Just because it is not the right room for me anymore doesn't mean I chose wrong in the first place and doesn't mean I made a big mistake. It just means I am growing, and changing, and life is different now.” 9:20 - Emily - “Recognizing when you don't feel a peace now means it is time to get curious. Sometimes we assume every flag is a red flag but sometimes a flag is just a flag or a yellow flag and it means slow down.” 13:23 - Andi - “There is a reason why the mourning process in the Bible was so wild and why they would put sackcloth and ashes and wail and mourn. They knew they needed to move it out of their bodies so that they could move forward in life.” 20:42 - Havilah - “The hardest person to hear God for is yourself because you have ulterior motives, desires, and a bad filter.” 23:15 - Havilah - “We want to hear God's voice because you can't have a relationship without His voice.” 30:47- Shauna - “If you feel overwhelmed by the mess that your life has become, don't try to go through that alone. Definitely a trained professional therapist is a major gift in that season.” Links to great things we discussed: Emily P. Freeman Website Emily P. “Gen-X” parents, Roy Jacques, Andi Andrew, and Joey Svendsen sit down for some light-hearted and sincere reflections on being parents of “Gen-Z” kids. They share memorable parenting moments, explore the roles of mothers and fathers, and reflect on the bittersweet reality of watching their children grow up. They also discuss the difference between caring for a child who is struggling, verses carrying their struggle for them, while still helping them to navigate their own trials. Also on the show is a serious discussion on how, despite their deep love, parents can unintentionally hurt their children with their actions and words. The three also talk prayer and forgiveness in light of human freewill.Stay ConnectedWebsite | Facebook Discussion Page I YouTubeOn this EpisodeAndi Andrew / InstagramRoy Jacques / FacebookJoey Svendsen / InstagramExecutive Producer: Josh SurrattProducer/Editor: Joey SvendsenSound Engineer/Editor: JT PriceSound Engineer: Katelyn VandiverMusic, including theme song: Joel T. In this episode, Andi Andrew and I have a conversation around transition and change. We dive into hearing God's voice, discerning the Holy Spirit, paying attention to the signs, and knowing when to jump and be brave in the midst of change. We build our foundation on the rock as we reflect on the story at the end of the sermon of the mount that Jesus tells about the wise and foolish builder. And we talk through dealing with grief and loss during transition, both personally and communally. Join us as we brave change and hold on to the rock as transitions come. Andi Andrew, with us today, released a book about two years ago titled, "Friendship -- It's Complicated." This book focuses on connections specifically amongst women, and as Andi describes certain "complications" more common in relationships between two females, the general question at hand in this podcast episode is: Just how different (and to what degree) are "guys and girls" from one another? Andi Andrew, Roy Jacques, Joey Svendsen, and new to the podcast, Amy Worley, have an "all things guys and all things girls" conversation. Although there is 100% buy-in amongst all four in the many inherent differences between the genders, they also acknowledge the many exceptions to the cultural stereotyping of "girls should like pink and ballet, while boys should like the color blue and football." Today's discussion takes a look at how narrow views of society are usually unhelpful and often times counterproductive or harmful. They also discuss some general themes including how transparency differs from vulnerability and instances when forgiveness for a friend may not include reconciliation. Andi also shares the concept of "spiritual midwives" and why they are important in her life. For a very long time, Seacoast Church has had women as pastors, elders and leaders at all levels of the organization/church body. As normal and natural as this feels to many Christians, others believe this approach to ministry doesn't line up with an accurate reading of scripture. Pastor Greg, founder of this church, Kathy Roseborough, a leader here, and Andi Andrew (newer to this church family) who has taught women and men at Seacoast on a Sunday morning or two, join Joey to talk woman leadership in the church. From their individual journeys of processing this issue to theological dissection of verses that appear at first glance to prohibit women from teaching men, the four deliberate this issue while discussing what each believe to be a more helpful and accurate way of approaching scripture and theological disagreements in general.
