From four second-place finishes to a wire-to-wire win and with a shattering 8hr .24min course record at the Kona Ironman World Championships, her journey has been nothing short of legendary. Her resilience, grit, and sheer force of will have propelled her to the pinnacle of the sport. She won the Ironman 70.3 World Championships 2 years ago in one of the most impressive performances I've ever seen, then the World Triathlon Long Distance World Championships last year, and now, the final jewel to her triathlon crown: in what I believe to be one of the most outstanding performances ever in our sports history, the Kona Ironman World Championship.    Greg Bennett https://www.bennettendurance.com/ Find Greg on social media: Twitter (X)- The Greg Bennett Show Instagram- The Greg Bennett Show   Lucy Charles-Barclay https://www.lucycharles.com/ Find Lucy on social media: Twitter (X)- Lucy Charles-Barclay Instagram- Lucy Charles-Barclay

In episode 279 of The Physical Performance Show Brad Beer shares a conversation with Greg Bennett (OLY) 2002 & 2003 ITU World Cup Triathlon Series Champion on this Featured Performer episode. Greg competed professionally across 28 years from the age of 18 to 44.  In that time, Greg has amassed a sporting resume like very few triathletes in history. Greg is the highest placed male finisher in an Olympic Games event for Australia, finishing fourth at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Greg started 82 ITU World Cup events, won six of those and was on the podium 23 times. Greg represented Australia at 13 World Championships at an elite level, three World Duathlon Championships with a silver medal in 2002 and two Goodwill Games. Greg won the world's richest ever triathlon prize purse in 2007 by clean sweeping five out of five for the Lifetime Fitness Grand Slam. In 2003 and 2007 Greg was voted Triathlete of the Year by Triathlete Magazine. Greg has been voted as a Top 15 Greatest Triathlete of all time by Inside Triathlon Magazine in 2012. In 2002 and 2003 Greg was the ITU World Cup Series Overall Champion. Greg touches on the power of absolute passion, why it's important to hone your craft through racing, along with the dark days of narrowly missing Sydney Olympic Games 2000 selection for the Australian Triathlon team. Greg shares around why it is important to turn up and do the work every day, why something is better than nothing and as Greg states week in and week out on his very own podcast ‘the Greg Bennett Show' why it is that success comes to those who endure for just a moment more. Greg issues a great physical challenge, top three tips for longevity and an incredible story about the hardest training session. For the last week of Women's History Month, we'll be re-sharing some of our favorite episodes from the badass women who make up our sport. We'll be re-airing here in our feed one episode every day for the next week and then we'll be back with new episodes the first week of April. Enjoy these old episodes from Gwen Jorgensen, Sarah True, Flora Duffy, Heather Jackson, Holly Lawrence, Sika Henry, Chelsea Sodaro — who has since had her baby, and on the last day of the month we'll hear again from our only gender nonbinary pro Rach McBride. Today we go back to our second episode with Flora Duffy, who joined us last year from South Africa, where she was in lockdown and stuck in the house. The Xterra and ITU World champ talked to us about what it's like to be an Olympic favorite and now not have an Olympics to go to, growing up in Bermuda, coming back from injuries, and how it took her a decade to become an overnight sensation. Plus, she's got her eyes on 70.3 Worlds this November and she shares some things she learned from her first 70.3. Kelly also chats first with Brad Culp about the triathlon landscape, how pros are making a living through all this, and they get into some speculation about what could happen with Kona.

Gwen Jorgensen seems to have realized the true value of happiness – and she has set a path in life toward achieving it – happiness not success that is. The reason I say this is not because of what she says in the interview but how she lights up whenever she talks about anything that is bigger than herself, specifically her journey into motherhood. Gwen is an Olympic gold medalist in the sport of triathlon. She won 17 ITU World cup titles and a gold medal all in the span of 6 short years as a professional triathlete. After the Olympics she entered the New York Marathon for fun and finished in 14th place with a time of 2:41. After that she got pregnant and had a baby, right around the time she declared that she was going after another Olympic spot, this time in the marathon! She sets her goals high and then tells the world so she can’t hide behind anything. Even though we covered some incredible topics today, I am having a little interviewer’s remorse because I wanted to cover more. Like the fact that Gwen chose to give up a wildly successful triathlon career, right after she won a gold medal! And that she is now training for the 2020 Olympic marathon with the Bowerman Track Club and women like Shalane Flanagan. But the truth is that this chapter of her life is still being written, and many of you didn’t know what got her to this point in the first place. So I will be happy with what we did cover and look forward to talking to her again in the future – hopefully after the 2020 Olympic Marathon. Today we talk about: Growing up in theMidwest Violin: How she became very successful even though she didn’t like it Swimming vs running: Hard work vs talent Goals: process based & technique based Running form goals Exceeding the demands of competition in training Nontraditional family roles Active pregnancy when you are an elite athlete Stanley’s birth & Gwen's physical recovery My only wish is that we could have talked longer! I want to know if she already has an inkling of which new sport she’ll go after in 2021! But for now, I'll take it! I loved chatting about her background. I can just envision Gwen as a little girl, working so hard and pushing her perfectionist mentality to the edge. Clearly she’s talented but it takes more than talent to be the best in the world. Hard work and mental toughness round it out and Gwen’s got it all. How to find & follow Gwen! All photos by Talbot Cox. Check him out too!
