Pro Coach Sierra Sims (M.S. Exercise Physiology) breaks down the science and technique behind muscle tension intervals: one of the most effective ways to turn gym strength into real power on the bike.   Whether you're building your base, coming back from the off-season, or looking to climb stronger, these workouts teach your neuromuscular system to produce MORE torque and apply it efficiently across the pedal stroke.   You'll learn: ✔️ What muscle tension (high-torque) intervals actually are ✔️ Why low cadence is so effective for force production ✔️ How to combine torque work with strength training for maximum gains ✔️ How WorldTour pros use torque blocks from October–February ✔️ How to structure these sessions indoors or outdoors ✔️ Real-world workout examples you can try this week  ✔️ How to avoid knee pain and progress safely   Watch till the end where Sierra shows you two practical ways to perform these intervals so you can do them anywhere — on Zwift, on climbs, or on rolling terrain.

Sure, we've reviewed the fastest World Tour aero road bikes and the newest gravel machines, but what about an off-road capable folding bike? Variety is the spice of life, and Velo tech editor Alvin Holbrook has been getting spicy on Brompton's G Line, a bike that should be more capable than any of the legendary UK brand's previous offerings, thanks to larger wheels and much better tires and brakes. Alvin rode the G Line on his usual gravel test loop and reports back on how it performed and what type of rider it makes the most sense for. Would you wear AI on your face? Josh Ross has been in the shape of Oakley's new – and very expensive – Vanguard glasses that come with a video camera, mic and headphones, and a connection to artificial intelligence that's ready to answer *almost* any question you might have. Josh answers our questions, without any AI help, about what the Vanguards are like to live with, why they might have the best mic and headphones for cycling, and explains how they can actually cost less than buying separate glasses, headphones, and a camera. Levy has that new bike fizz after buying an Allied Able and shares some of his early ride impressions, as well as how it compares to his much-loved Santa Cruz Stigmata that he's lived on for the previous two years. Is it love at first ride, or might there be some regrets? Further reading Q36.5's New Cold-Weather Jackets Fit Like A … Condom? We chocolatized our life before this amazing episode! The main topic was a new study on elite marathoners measuring responses to different carb intakes, finding a 2.6% lower oxygen cost at 120 grams per hour compared to 60 grams per hour. It showed massive carb oxidation rates at high outputs. In 10 years, we might look back on this study as a game-changing moment in the science of endurance performance. And this one had so many cool topics! Other topics: Megan's biggest uphill treadmill threshold workout, David's Zwift racing, the strange connection between energy intake and iron deficiency, how hydration could influence stress responses, the predictive power of smiling in pre-race photos, Anne Flower's 50 mile world record, other records at Tunnel Hill, whether to walk onto the track team, offseason layoffs, race week nutrition, and AI messaging.Stick around for a beautiful affirming Listener Corner message! Now working as Zwift's Director of Women's Strategy, she's embracing the pivot to the fullest. In this week's episode, she talks about the power of alignment and following her passions, what it was like to build community during a global pandemic, and how she feels about the company stepping in as the title sponsor of Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. Plus: What she's learned along the way, how she anticipates the sport to grow in the future, and how it feels to be a vocal leader (especially on the days she's not feeling so shiny). How to Perform Muscle Tension Intervals on Zwift

Muscle Tension Intervals are those big gear, low cadence masher that are like lifting weights on the bike. You can do them in the CoachCat app → https://fascatcoaching.com/app where the first month is free. The problem? Not everyone has access to a steady 3–5% climb like we do here in Boulder.  That's where Zwift comes in. In this video, Coach Frank walks you through two ways to perform Muscle Tension Intervals on Zwift: 1️⃣ Exporting your workout into ERG mode and using the Incline setting in the Companion app. 2️⃣ Riding free-form in the Climb Portal and simulation riding uphill for work intervals, then turning around and coasting downhill for recovery. Additionally, you'll learn how torque (force on the pedals) connects to power, and why these intervals build the kind of strength that pays off when you combine it with higher cadence later in the season.

More to the point, Eric Min co-founded Zwift thanks to a lifelong love affair with cycling. Shimano's $480 Gravel Shoes, Zwift Partners On Headphones, & MADE Bike Show Highlights

This week's Velo Podcast takes a tech-heavy turn while Mike Levy is away, while Josh and I (Alvin Holbrook) dive deep into the latest gear, updates, and trends shaping cycling. We kick things off with Wahoo's firmware updates. Credit to Wahoo, here, as they pushed a series of updates to its first-generation bike computers, experiencing mass file corruptions and problems, a long eight years after the first Elemnt computer was released. Next up are the new Shimano S-Phyre RX910 gravel shoes, the brand's first gravel-specific model under its flagship line. At $480, they promise elite-level performance with a supple upper, serious stiffness, and clever pontoons that offer road shoe-like stability. Still, their pedal sensitivity and premium pricing sparked a lively debate on whether “gravel-specific” is worth the investment. We also tested Zwift's new over-ear headphones, boasting 50-hour battery life, sweat resistance, and active noise cancellation. At $249, they're aimed squarely at serious indoor riders, but are they really better than in-ear buds? From there, Josh shares highlights from the MADE Handmade Bike Show in Portland. Standouts included the fillet-brazed artistry of Ira Ryan, the aero-focused, 3D printed titanium No.22 Reactor, and a bold paint scheme from Black Magic. The show reinforced that road and gravel continue to dominate, but also showcased fresh experiments, like Moots' monster-cross machine. Finally, we wrap with a bit of talk before Alvin's last criterium of the season. What bike, wheel, and tire combo should he roll with this weekend? With options like the Canyon Aeroad, Factor Monza, and Specialized Tarmac SL8, plus the latest Roval Rapide CLX III wheels, there's a lot to discuss.
