The Metsian Podcast returns as our Metsian hopes spring! On today's podcast, we welcome Metstradamus aka John Coppinger, and former Mets minor leaguer J.J. Newman. JJ was drafted by the Mets in the 35th round of the 2006 draft. He spent a season and a half with the Gulf Coast League Mets, dealing with an injury before playinng for the Independent Washington WildThings in 2007. JJ will not only give us his impressions of the 2023 Mets going into spring, but discuss what it is usually like for the players during this February period prior to the games. On top of that, we'll talk the Verlander/Scherzer dynamic with rumors chriping that they didn't get along back in their Detroit days, adding a lefty to the pen, Alvarez and Baty's role on this team, and much more. We'll also look back on the life and times of the late great Tim McCarver.
LIVE at 9pm ET, The Metsian Podcast welcomes back John Coppinger, aka Metstradamus, to the program. The "WOW" factor is still lingering. With the listlessness settling in and the familiar Marlins peskiness keeping us down, Eduardo Escobar put the Mets on his back and ensured, coupled with the Nats walk-off win against the Braves in DC, that the team would head into their final 3 regular season games against the Braves up 1 in the division. We'll recap what has happened since we last talked and look forward to the most crucial series of the year. That and much more on the latest edition of The Metsian Podcast!
Diversity & short story anthologies (part 3): Authors Vaseem Khan & Ivy Ngeow tell We'd Like A Word hosts Paul Waters & Stevyn Colgan how they edited their recently published short story anthologies. Vaseem is co-editor (With Maxim Jakubowski) of The Perfect Crime: 22 Crime Stories from Diverse Cultures Around the World, published by Harper Collins. Ivy is editor of Asian Anthology: New Writing Volume 1, published by Leopard Print. We talk about getting diverse voices published, about cultural appropriation & avoiding "rule by the mob", how they choose who to include, what to do if you want to get your own story into an anthology, what editors love and what they hate, and we hear excerpts of some of the stories read by their authors. These two short story anthologies take different approaches - open call v selected authors, big names v unknowns, genre framework v very loose theme. And the editors take different approaches on how they edit. For instance, if we do not generally put the word spaghetti in italics, why should we treat mee mamak any differently? Discuss... Lots of other authors/publishers get a mention too - Dotun Adebayo and his XPress, Hachette, Will Dean, Neil Jordan, EP Chiew, Ewan Lawrie, Tess Gerritsen, Jabba the Hut creator John Coppinger, SA Cosby, Walter Mosley, and more. We recommend both The Perfect Crime and Asian Anthology, but their editors are also authors in their own right with books out recently. Ivy Ngeow is the author of fiction and non-fiction including on fitness, health & cooking. Her latest thriller is White Crane Strikes. Vaseem Khan is the author of the Baby Ganesh Detective Agency & Malabar House crime fiction novels set in India. We'd Like A Word is a podcast & radio show from authors Paul Waters & Stevyn Colgan. We talk with writers, readers, editors, agents, celebrities, talkers, poets, publishers, booksellers, audiobook creators about books - fiction & non-fiction. We go out on various radio & podcast platforms. Our website is http://www.wedlikeaword.com for information on Paul & Steve & our guests. We're also on Twitter @wedlikeaword & Facebook @wedlikeaword & our email is wedlikeaword@gmail.com Yes, we are embarrassed by the missing apostrophes. We like to hear from you - questions, thoughts, ideas, guest or book suggestions. Perhaps you'd like to come on We'd Like A Word to chat, review or read out passages from books. And if you're still stuck for something to read, may we recommend Blackwatertown, the thriller by Paul Waters or Cockerings, the new comic classic by Stevyn Colgan.

It has been a long time since getting a podcast out there, but here is the first for 2021! This episode is a continuation from the Walk Luangwa 2020 expedition where a small group of us walked 350km through the Luangwa Valley in aid of community and conservation organisations in the Luangwa that had previously relied on tourism bed-levies to be able to continue their operations. During the 17 days it took us we had numerous guests join us for portions of the expedition; from beneficiaries from these organisations, to custodians of the Valley. John Coppinger is one of those custodians of the Valley whose career spans close on 40 years in tourism in the Luangwa. During our short conversation he gives us a bit of a glimpse into what the Valley once was, and how he sees tourism as having its role in conservation efforts. Previously a commercial pilot before starting guiding in the Luangwa, together with his wife Carol, they created Remote Africa Safaris in the mid-90's. A few days earlier we had been walking along the Mwaleshi River where Nick Ridden (Remote Africa Safaris Operations Manager) pointed out the bones of the structures that would have been their Mwaleshi Camp. This was the first time in 30 years since being established that their camp was not opening due to the pandemic's impact on tourism. LIVE at 8pm ET, John Coppinger of Metstradamus joins us as we once more rant and rave with the Mets coming off a series sweep by the hands of the Phillies. What went wrong? Why does the pattern of letting games slip away continue to ravage this team? Arod is apparently the front-runner now in purchasing the Met...how should we react to this news? When will all this nonsense stop? We've got much to discuss...the terrible starting pitching, Rojas's leash with them, Ramos's play...so much to get to get to, and we're most likely all masochists in wanting to discuss and listen. Join us LIVE AT 8!

A Metsian Podcast returns and welcomes a favorite of ours, John Coppinger of Metstradamus! Well, any excitement from the honeymoon period of the Beltrán hire has been stripped away, as Carlos finds himself at the center of the Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal, with some reports saying he, along with AJ Hinch and Alex Cora, was a mastermind in the entire debacle. With the former two being coaches at the time, will much happen to the new Mets manager seeing he was only a player? BVW spoke at the GM meetings and the lawyer talk was in full swing. We'll "dissect" his chatter and attempt to look into the crystal ball of the hot stove...(luckily, we have our resident Metsian prophet joining us tonight...) With Pete Alonso and Jacob deGrom winning the Rookie of the Year and Cy Youn awards, respectively, we'll bask in the glow that are these two players. That plus MUCH MORE! We'll also look back at the players to wear number 38 in Mets history. So, join us at 8pm ET for the latest edition of A Metsian Podcast!

Three ... Two ... One ... Happy New Year, and LET'S GO METS! If fans still seem a little too warm and more bubbly than usual, that's because Brodie Van Wagenen followed through on a promise to keep the winter hot stove glowing bright orange throughout. If nothing else, he has certainly ushered in a new narrative. Fans were already anticipating the upcoming season transpiring quite differently than the last; perhaps more so now after the acquisition of outfielder Keon Broxton from Milwaukee. Tonight, consider yourself invited to the Metsian Podcast after-party, as Sam, Rich, and Mike, throw more confetti at 2019, and the continuing transformation of the New York Mets. Featured guest, John Coppinger, aka Metstradamus from Sports Daily, returns to share his views on all things orange and blue. The show starts at 9:00pm (ET), sharp. As always, you're welcome to call and join the Metsian conversation @ 646-787-1919.

On Episode 1 of Just End The Suffering's brand new podcast, host Mike Phillips talks New York Mets' baseball with John Coppinger of Metstradamus and Steve Popoloski from the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
Did you know that, like the films, this podcast also has a prequel era? Before State of the Empire, before Lucasfilm was bought by Disney, Cap and co. did a number of interviews with Star Wars personalities. In this episode, we're dusting off the data cores and revisiting a long time ago, in a podcast far, far away.We speak with BOTH Boba Fetts: the original man behind the mask, Jeremy Bulloch, and young Boba, Daniel Logan - discussing Bulloch's favorite roles outside Star Wars and Logan's carrying of the Fett mantle beyond the prequel films. The venerable Julian Glover (aka Empire Strikes Back's General Veers and Last Crusade's Walter Donovan) discusses what might have been after his victory on Hoth. Legendary sound designer, Ben Burtt shares, the secrets of the "black hole". And last, but definitely not least, we hang out with three of the key players in bringing Jabba the Hutt to life:Jabba's right-hand man, Dave Barclay, his left-hand man, Toby Philpott, and the guy behind the Hutt's sultry figure and gorgeous eyes - John Coppinger. These revered puppeteers also share stories from working on classics like The Dark Crystal, The Fifth Element, and Little Shop of Horrors. For links and more info, head to the main episode page:http://consequenceofsound.net/2018/04/interview-julian-glover-daniel-logan-jeremy-bulloch-ben-burtt See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
