Welcome back to Myopia Movies the show where we boldly go—wait, wrong franchise—where we dive headfirst into the galaxy far, far away! And today, we're talking about Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, the movie that taught us three very important lessons: 1) Always check if someone's your dad before you start a fight, 2) Tauntauns may smell bad, but they're lifesavers, and 3) Never kiss your sibling—even if you don't know they're your sibling. That's right! We're breaking down the movie where the good guys lose, the bad guys win, and we're left screaming, ‘LUKE, DON'T DO IT!' louder than Darth Vader in a parenting seminar. So grab your lightsabers, bundle up for Hoth, and let's jump into the movie that made us all question our family trees and our ability to trust small green swamp creatures!” Make sure to like and subscribe where ever you are getting this! Please leave us a review and follow us on Bluesky, Reddit, and Facebook! This week, we dig deeper into the cold to talk about Star Wars and one of the frostiest beginnings to a movie in cinematic history. We watched Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back! Do you love us? We know.... How will Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back hold up? Host: Nic Panel: Lauren, Nur, Keiko, Matthew Directed by Irvin Kershner Starring: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, David Prowse, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, Frank Oz, Alec Guinness, Jeremy Bulloch

"Who would have suspected him? I mean, nobody ever noticed him. I never did." In 1969 Canadian director Alvin Rakoff directed a big screen version of his successful television play Call Me Daddy, which had starred Donald Pleasance and Judy 'Keeping Up Appearances' Cornwell. Now renamed Hoffman, the film starred Peter Sellers and newcomer Sinead Cusack. Benjamin Hoffman, a manager at a cigarette company, blackmails one of the office girls into staying with him at his flat for a week. His intentions are never wholly made explicit but Janet Smith (Cusack) has a pretty good idea and very reluctantly agrees. As the days go by very gradually the power dynamic shifts and we come to recognise Hoffman for what he really is: a rather sad, pathetic figure. Sellers famously hated this film, or didn't hate this film, depending on who you spoke to - but in any case he saw in the character of Hoffman too many traits which sat uncomfortably close to home. Some good did come out of it, in a way - he enjoyed a brief romance with Cusack which ended almost as soon as it began. And the film is quite absorbing, even if some of the content and themes are problematic when viewed from a 21st century perspective. It is pretty much a two-hander (the supporting cast, including Jeremy Bulloch and David Lodge, don't get much to do) and hardly full of belly laughs but is amusing enough in its own way. Joining Tyler to talk about it is actor Patrick Strain and among the many questions raised is "Could you make it today?" Patrick was introduced to Sellers' film work via three relatively cosy black & white British comedies and then this film - QUITE the gear change! As he explains, it's a film he's fond of as much for the history and background of its production as for the finished product. The film was recently released on blu-ray with oodles of extra features including an essay by former Goon Pod guest and host of Smersh Pod John Rain.
Original broadcast date April 27, 2023. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2023/04/binary-system-podcast-359-lore-olympus-239-and-240/ On this week's Lore Olympus recap, we had two episodes of Persephone in the dream realm that gave us more questions than answers: WHAT will Erebus take from Persephone? WHY isn't she telling Hades what she saw? And WHEN will we see more of the whole Apollo situation come ooooooonn we just want to see Persephone go full Vengeful Underworld Queen on him for FIVE MINUTES that's all we're asking. (Oh, and the bit in episode #240 with Thetis was a perfect little gift for everybody who knows the original myth, no notes.) After the recap Elizabeth talks about how she's caught up with Severance because she was living in an alternate reality where there were four seasons already? Instead of just one? No, we don't know either, but there're no more episodes till 2024 so THAT'S A THING. Then Kathryn recaps the first episode of Ms. Marvel (only eleven months late, a new record!) and says the animated doodles on the landscape are worth your time all by themselves. Finally we talk about what everybody else is saying about The Book of Boba Fett, the Mandalorian season three, and Picard season three, because of course we haven't watched those yet. This week's outro is a clip from Good Vibes by Alex-Productions.Energetic Summer EDM | Good Vibeshttps://youtu.be/iI-6_nApRKQMusic promoted by http://onsound.eu/ Correction: well, confirmation really – Jeremy Bulloch, the actor who played the original Boba Fett, passed away in 2020. Gates McFadden definitely likes to joke about that one episode. Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? Want to buy them (or yourself) a square foot of a castle in Scotland? When collecting action figures you have to set some rules or else you'll run out of room and/or go broke very fast. One of my rules for Star Wars figures is figures based on "behind the scenes" individuals or "behind the mask" actors. Join Carlos today on GeekFest Rants as he talks about his collection of Star Wars figures that are based on cameos by franchise contributors. These will include George Lucas, Richard Marquand, Jeremy Bulloch, Anthony Daniels, Ahmed Best, Joe Johnston, Dave Filoni, and Ralph McQuarrie. Can you guess who has had the most different figures made of himself? No cheating by looking at the show art.
A much needed homage to the original Boba Fett, Jeremy Bulloch. We dive into this exciting documentary short on Disney+ and talk all things from the original Fett suit, the passing of the mantle to Temura Morrison and some easter eggs throughout the animated series Clone Wars and Bad Batch.
This episode covers the life and work of acclaimed graphic designer Robert Brownjohn who shaped the look of the iconic James Bond title sequences with his groundbreaking work on 'From Russia With Love' and 'Goldfinger'. The team also look at Jeremy Bulloch. Most famous as Boba Fett in Star Wars, the English actor starred in three James Bond films and was a fan favourite on the convention circuit. They shine a light on Irma Bunt, the Spectre agent of 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' who inflicted untold damage on 007. They look at two writers who worked on Bond with varying degrees of success: Anthony Burgess, who had a crack at the script for 'The Spy Who Loved Me', and Jez Butterworth the acclaimed playwright who polished the scripts for Sam Mendes' two 007 films: 'Skyfall' and 'Spectre'. Finally, the trio mop up a number of filmmakers who they missed in the previous episodes as they prepare to move on to the letter C. ¡Vuelve a oirse el rugido del rancor!

Geek Girl in the News looks at the awesome or not so awesome news that will make you go either: "YAY" or "OMG I can't believe that." The latest and greatest geek girl news from December 2020 covers the sad passing of the OG Boba Fett, Jeremy Bulloch, the very fact that ALIENS (yep, real life aliens) might exist and the Galactic Federation is an actual, honest to goodness thing, Star-Lord being #ConfirmedCanonBisexual, the many painful fuck-ups with Cyberpunk 2077, Hearthstone's latest Transgender Champion, Bloodyface, and, kicking off January 2021, we want the internet to stop body shaming our men - even fit men like Kumail Nanjiani, kthx. Sadly, December saw the passing of another Star Wars star. Jeremy Bulloch passed away early in the month after a long battle with Parkinson's. He's remembered for his iconic role as Boba Fett in Star Wars Episode V & VI and so, so many other shows and films over his 45 year-long career. Rest In Peace, you legend. We also had some rather unsettling news this month coming from a retired senior Israeli security officer. That... aliens??? exist!???? Aliens, collectively known as the Galactic Federation, have been in contact for years, apparently, with Isreal and the USA but have asked these governments to keep their existence secret. Because humanity is NOT ready to hear about it. Why did this security officer spill the tea now? Apparently as a society we're way more open to this shit than ever before, so he though, well, why not!? What do you think? Do aliens exist? Is the Galactic Federation a thing that we've been in contact with?? Is this the real reason the Space Force was created? Speaking of Space Force, our real life Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel Comics have confirmed that beloved character, Peter Quill, AKA Star-Lord, is bisexual and in a polyamorous relationship! The reveal comes in Guardians of the Galaxy #9 where Quill is in a hot-tub with two people whom he declares are his home. It's also confirmed that they're together for over 100 years! Cue the awes, please! Of course, Chris #TheWorstChris Pratt might not be too happy with this news. So, I guess... watch this space to see if we're going to see Bi!StarLord portrayed on the big screen!? Unless you've been hiding under a rock (which, honestly, would not blame you in the damn slightest!), you've heard about the literal shitshow that was Cyberpunk 2077. Trans and accessibility issues aside, this game was the most highly anticipated game of the year (possibly the decade, who can say!?) and upon release was just.... so fucking riddled with issues we can't even laugh at it. In a completely unprecedented move, game carriers such as PlayStation Network and the Microsoft Store actually pulled the game from their sales and offered refunds to any buyer who wants one. WOAH. This will definitely shake up the industry. And it's, um, definitely going to shake up CD Projekt Red - and not in the good way. In other transgender news, we welcome the news that Hearthstone's competitor, Bloodyface, has come out as a transgender woman. We welcome Luna (pronouns she/her) to the ranks and stand with you in support! We are SO here for the first transgender World Champion of Hearthstone! Finally, as it's the month of Radical Self-Love here at Geek Herring, we have to talk about the intense body shaming that's going on. Eternals Kumail Nanjiani is the latest victim of bodyshaming for, get this, being TOO FIT. Dude went through the Marvel superhero training program that all our fave hero actors go through and got buff AF for his role in the upcoming film. But guess what? After spending an entire year on the program, working out with the best that Marvel offers, and then spending a year in quarantine... he's still fit. So.... it's not enough that society body shames fat people, now it's shaming Kumail for being too fit. Okay, we're done. -Insert Major Eye Roll Here- What do YOU think about these news stories? On this week's episode of the Geek Gossip, Jack and Artie start out by looking back on the Mandalorian season finale, which brought all sorts of awesome things to our conversation such as the Dark Troopers, the return of Luke Skywalker and the brave exploit by Mando and friends to rescue Grogu, or as we know him, Baby Yoda. We also take some time to commemorate Jeremy Bulloch, the original Boba Fett actor, who became one with the force recently. He played Boba Fett long before he was in Mandalorian, and the character wouldn't be where he is now if it wasn't for Jeremy Bulloch. In Tales From the Dollar Bin, Dad joins us to review an issue T.H.U.N.D.E.R Agents from 1967 along with a couple issues of Marvel Premier, which introduced crazy characters like Torpedo and Man-Wolf. For the Battles, Uncle Russ joins us to debate on an epic showdown between Homer Simpson and Patrick Star, along with some notes from a loyal listener and friend to Jack and Artie provided on why he thinks Homer would beat Patrick.
Lance Laster and Mike Schindler discuss the reveal of The Book of Boba Fett, the passing of Jeremy Bulloch and Peter Lamont, Leonard Roberts' experience on Heroes, Chadwick Boseman in What If...?, Marvel's Legends, The Russo's The Electric State, The Dark Knight on the National Film Registry, Zack Snyder DC movie news, and DC's Infinite Frontier.
