Mets Bloggers Sam Maxwell, Rich Sparago and Mike Lecolant get together to discuss all things New York Mets, whether it be modern times or 50+ Year history.
Host Personality, comedian, actor and voiceover artist John Saponaro joins the Metsian Podcast! Fresh off MC duties at the Queens Baseball Convention, John resides in Los Angeles but just like dose Dodgers, is originally from Brooklyn. He has been heard on Sirius XM's Raw Dog radio, has filled in as the PA announcer at the home of the Tennessee Titans and has appeared on the NBC Sports Network and FS1. You can find him at inktr.ee/johnsap. New Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns has made a slew of minor moves, which has many Mets fans thinking Max Scherzer was right about the scaled back approach going into 2024. We'll discuss our thoughts on the matter, whether he should have done more up until this point or whether we appreciate the long-game approach. And we'll for sure talk about the unprecedented deferrals in the Shohei Ohtani contract. We'll also recap the Queens Baseball Convention and John's time as host. SUBSCRIBE ON APPLE!
This week on The Metsian Podcast, we welcome reporter Mark C. Healey to discuss the Mets new manager, Carlos Mendoza, and get Mark's take on the Mets hot stove plans. SUBSCRIBE ON APPLE!
Well, the season is over, and unfortunately for all us Mets fans, it didn't go according to plan. The red nuke button was pressed around the trade deadline and we enter the offseason with Buck Showalter out of a job, Billy Eppler having resigned for a potential multitude of reasons and a new (and first) president of baseball ops in David Stearns. Joining us to not only discuss the season, for better or worse, as well as look forward to the hot stove and the 2024 Mets is Faith and Fear in Flushing and National League Town Podcast's Greg Prince and mega Mets fan Lauren from Long Island.
We got cut off, but here's part 2 of our chat with Mestradamus on the first half disaster and what's ahead for the second half.
The Metsian Podcast welcomes Metstradamus John Coppinger to discuss what went wrong in the first half and what the Mets can do right in the second. And if they can't do right on the field, what is right going into the trade deadline?
Faith and Fear in Flushing and NL Town's Greg Prince and Baseball and BBQ's Jeff Cohen joins The Metsian Podcast to break down what is the deal with the 2023 Mets 30-30 start to the season. SUBSCRIBE ON APPLE
This week on The Metsian Podcast, we welcome Lauren from Queens! Lauren is a middle school special education teacher in the borough. She's been a Mets fan her entire life. Her love for the game and the team comes from her dad; she grew up going to games at Shea with her parents. Playing softball growing up, she was convinced that she was going to be exactly like her favorite player, Mike Piazza. She has "Ya Gotta Believe" tattooed on her wrist, and tries to live by that motto. You can find her on twitter @CalmYourMitts. Nothing is going right for the New York Metsies right now; when the pitching is good, the offense doesn't exist, and when the offense cranks it, the pitching falters. We'll have a hearty conversation about why all this is. And Lauren will find parellels in her fandom of the Mets with one of her favorite TV shows, Ted Lasso, which is just wrapping up its third season on Apple TV+. SUBSCRIBE ON APPLE
As the Mets come home after a successful western road trip, The Metsian Podcast welcomes Once Upon a Time in Queens Director Nick Davis! Nick Davis is an award-winning writer, director, and producer, including ONCE UPON A TIME IN QUEENS, a 4-hour documentary series he Produced and Directed about the 1986 New York Mets for ESPN's 30 for 30 series. He has also written a book on his filmmaking family's history, specifically the Mankiewicz brothers, titled, "Competing with Idiots: Herman and Joe Mankiewicz, a Dual Portrait." After a 7-3 western road trip that included a sweep of the miserable A's but also a couple losses to the Giants at the end, how do we feel as the Mets enter an early crucial home swing against division foes? With the rotation depth being tested not only by injuries and ineffectiveness but the controversial suspension of Max Scherzer for "hand stickiness," we'll discuss the suspension, the pitch clock's effect on applying rosin, and how the rotation should look going forward once some pitchers return. We'll also take a look at the offense, including Nimmo, Alonso and the callups. All that plus much, much more. Join us for the latest edition of the Metsian Podcast! SUBSCRIBE ON APPLE
This week on The Metsian Podcast, we welcome Subway to Shea's Anthony Rivera! Anthony Rivera is the host & producer of the Subway To Shea Podcast. He also is a Contributer for Rising Apple on the FanSided Network. We'll discuss the uneven start to the Mets season, the injury issues they are dealing with plus much more. So, join us for the latest edition of The Metsian Podcast!
Spring training has officially ended. The Mets made news, as you might expect. Edwin Diaz is lost for the season because of a freak injury at the WBC. How will the Mets try to fill the void left by the best closer in baseball? Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty, and Mark Vientos are not coming north with the team. Darin Ruf, Daniel Vogelbach, and Eduardo Escobar will be on the opening day roster, but for how long? Are the Mets ready to go further than they did last year, and perhaps bring a long-awaited title to Queens? We will dive into all of these topics and more on Sunday, March 26th at 9 pm. Join the Metsian podcast crew by listening at the link below, and/or join the discussion by calling 646-787-1919. We may even have a special guest or two to spice up the discussion. What's better than a Mets discussion with the season opener just four days away?
The Metsian Podcast returns as our Metsian hopes spring! On today's podcast, we welcome Metstradamus aka John Coppinger, and former Mets minor leaguer J.J. Newman. JJ was drafted by the Mets in the 35th round of the 2006 draft. He spent a season and a half with the Gulf Coast League Mets, dealing with an injury before playinng for the Independent Washington WildThings in 2007. JJ will not only give us his impressions of the 2023 Mets going into spring, but discuss what it is usually like for the players during this February period prior to the games. On top of that, we'll talk the Verlander/Scherzer dynamic with rumors chriping that they didn't get along back in their Detroit days, adding a lefty to the pen, Alvarez and Baty's role on this team, and much more. We'll also look back on the life and times of the late great Tim McCarver.
LIVE at 8pm ET, we welcome Faith and Fear in Flushing & NL Town's Greg Prince to the program. Well, we all spoke too soon as just before Christmas, word came down that the Mets were also concerned with the Carlos Correa medicals. Unlike with the Giants, there seems to be motivation on both sides to make the deal work. We'll talk about the contract and of course monitor the situation via the Internets to see if any news drops while LIVE on air. And with the year almost over, we'll look back on the 2022 New York Mets; the good, the bad and the downright ugly. So, make sure you join us LIVE at 8pm ET for the latest edition of The Metsian Podcast!
LIVE at 8pm ET, The Metsian Podcast welcomes Passed Ball's John Pielli. John has hosted the Passed Ball Show since 2011. It can be seen/heard on YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music. He a sports historian and has a website of http://johnpielli.com. Welp, Jacob deGrom heads to Texas on a 5-year deal worth around 187 million, which is hard to believe would have been matched by the Mets had deGrom even given them a chance to do so. Mets fans are split about the way Jacob left, feeling he's a phony all of a sudden. We'll dissect the transaction and look back on his Mets career. The Mets moved quickly to replace him and Taijuan Walker, who left on a 4-year deal down I-95 to the Phillies, with Justin Verlander and Josè Quintana on short-term deals. We'll discuss these moves and our feelings on having two 40-year olds at the top of the rotation. On top of signing Brandon Nimmo to an 8-year deal worth 162 million, they also signed David Robertson to a 1-year, 10 million dollar deal and traded a prospect to Tampa Bay for southpaw Brooks Raley. How do we feel about these moves? And how do we feel about Steve Cohen going over the tax threshold? All that and more on an action-packed episode of The Metsian Podcast!
Well, the last game has been played and the offseason is here. Congrats to Dusty Baker and the Houston Astros on their championship, and from a strictly selfish, Metsian perspective, we're thankful we won't have to live in another winter where a division rival is world champions (still, congrats to the Phillies on their phantastic playoff run.) Quickly and swiftly, the Mets signed Edwin Díaz to a record 102 million, five year deal, though Jacob deGrom and Taijuan Walker opted out and became free agents today. We'll examine all the free agents the Mets have and look outside the franchise for other moves we hope they make. And since we have not been on air since the Mets crapped the bed against the Padres, we'll look over the good, the bad and the ugly that was the 2022 New York Mets. Join us LIVE at 9!
LIVE at 9pm ET, The Metsian Podcast welcomes back John Coppinger, aka Metstradamus, to the program. The "WOW" factor is still lingering. With the listlessness settling in and the familiar Marlins peskiness keeping us down, Eduardo Escobar put the Mets on his back and ensured, coupled with the Nats walk-off win against the Braves in DC, that the team would head into their final 3 regular season games against the Braves up 1 in the division. We'll recap what has happened since we last talked and look forward to the most crucial series of the year. That and much more on the latest edition of The Metsian Podcast!
LIVE at 9pm ET, we huddle on this Metsian offday to discuss, what else, our favorite baseball team. Joining us tonight is Faith and Fear in Flushing and NL Town's Greg Prince. The Mets found themselves out of sole possession of first place after losing three straight, two to the Nationals and the first game against the Pirates. Tied to start Wednesday's doubleheader, the Mets responded by sweeping the twin bill, which also prevented a possible season-high losing streak. Most likely in the postseason regardless, we'll discuss the urgency to bypass the Wild Card round by winning the division outright (and maybe exorcising some demons along the way.) Along with that, we'll also discuss Scherzer's health, our faith in the bullpen, the need for Luis Guillorme back and much more. So, join us LIVE at 9pm ET on the latest edition of The Metsian Podcast!
LIVE at 9pm ET, the Metsian crew gets together for the latest edition of The Metsian Podcast. The Mets right a bunch ol' time wrongs while maintaining a lead in the eastern division. We'll recap the Mets current positioning since last we spoke and reminisce of the glory of the first old timers game since 1994. We'll look onto the Dodgers series and what the Mets have in store after that. This plus much more on the latest edition of The Metsian Podcast! SAY HEY!
LIVE at 9pm ET, we welcome Tumaro Media's Phil Maillard to have a healthy Metsian conversation with Sam, Rich and Mike. The Mets have been rolling since the All-Star Break, staving off their closest competitor and going 15-4 since then. They may have not made a "major" move at the All-Star Break, but they've gotten major production from the new additions of Tyler Naquin, Daniel Vogelbach and Darin Ruf, perfectly integrating into the Buck Showalter mix and not massively shaking up the clubhouse vibes. Oh, and someone named Jacob deGrom returned. Everything's coming up Eppler, and it has Mets fans dreaming of what could be. We'll talk about all of this and more on tonight's edition of The Metsian Podcast! Feel free to join in on the conversation at 646-787-1919.
Double, double toil and trouble; summer burns, and dog days bubble. After two losses against the Padres, the resilient Mets responded with a dramatic takedown of the New York Yankees in the subway series. They thus reestablished a three-game lead over the second-place Atlanta Braves. Alas, what will prove to be a wild second half of the season is excitedly underway. With the trade deadline now less than a week away, it's up to the general manager to reinforce the team and fortify their division standing. Assisting the Metsian Podcast in detailing the Mets' minor league commodities at Billy Eppler's disposal and plotting a potential course of action will be the Sunshine State's baseball reporter and analyst Ernest Dove. This evening's podcast goes LIVE at 9:00 pm (EST); call the show with a quick hot take at 646-787-1919, or send questions, comments, and rude remarks to @THEMetsianPod on Twitter.
Do you feel it? Mets Fever is in the air. Fans everywhere are becoming wildly happy and contagious. Suppose you're breaking out in blue and orange dots. That might be due to the Mets on Wednesday completing a series victory at Atlanta, taking two out of three games against their top division rival, the defending champion Braves. As they say, if you want to be the best, you must beat the best. That being said, the Mets have now "won four of seven games" against the Braves this season, with a dozen more fanatically distressing division contests still to play. Joining Sam and Mike this evening to discuss Mets baseball, symptoms of summertime, and the 2022 pennant race will be Jeff Cohen of the acclaimed Baseball & BBQ Podcast. Tonight's show goes LIVE at 9:00 pm (EST); call in with a quick hot take at #646-787-1919 or send questions, comments, and rude remarks to @THEMetsianPod on Twitter.
Remain calm. All is well. Or is it? The Mets barely survived the month of June but still hold an increasingly tenuous lead over the Braves. Will it last? Their recent play brings that and many other questions into play. While the Braves and Phillies hammer away at each other in Philadelphia this evening, Sam Maxwell and Mike Lecolant try to sort things out in a quick reaction episode of The Metsian Podcast. The show goes LIVE! at 9:30 pm (EST). Send any hot takes, questions, or comments to @THEMetsianPod to be shared on air.
The deeper we get into this 2022 season, the more the Mets distinguish themselves as one of baseball's top contenders. Team depth and resiliency have kept them atop the division and continue pushing this team forward; injuries be damned. Please join Sam, Rich, and Mike as they reconvene to discuss everything going right in Flushing, along with other Mets minutiae. Tonight's episode of The Metsian Podcast goes LIVE! at 9:00 PM (EST). Feel free to call #646-787-1919 for a quick hot take or send questions and comments to @THEMetsianPod on Twitter.
The New York Mets built a comfortable lead in the NL East. It's a good thing they did, because they have hit the skids a bit on the their current California trip, going 3-4 to date, while the Braves and Phillies have each won seven in a row. The Mets' lead is "down" to seven games, and the injuries are piling up. Though both avoided tthe IL for now, Pete Alonso and Starling Marte are day-to-day. Chris Bassitt is going through tough times. Never a dull (or easy) moment in Metsville. Join Sam, Rich, and Mike, along with special guest Anthony Rivera from Rising Apple and the Subway to Shea podcast as they break it all down. Are the Mets in trouble? Is this just "natural correction"? Let's see what the team has to say. Oh, and Noah Syndergaard will not pitch against the Mets this weekend in Anaheim. Interesting. Join the conversation at 9 pm on June 9 by calling 646-787-1919!
LIVE at 9pm ET, the Metsian Podcast comes together, basking in another series win by the New York Metsies and hoping the team can continue to stay resiliant as they deal with whatever problem comes their way. We'll touch upon the Max Scherzer injury news and the momentous walk-off win in its shadow, our thoughts on options for the rotation while we wait for one of Jake, Max or both to return, how the Mets are able to continue to bounce back from losses on the field and off, and much more. So, join us LIVE at 9pm ET for the latest edition of The Metsian Podcast!
It's been said before but bears repeating. The first-place Mets lead the National League in wins and still have yet to lose a series this season. They're getting it done with solid pitching, fielding, and timely hitting. However, we've seen this before. The season is about a fifth of the way through. So, let us pause and ask what differentiates this team from last year's Mets, who, on Aug. 14, 2021, dropped in the standings behind the Phillies and Braves and never recovered. Please join Sam, Rich, and Mike, as they recap the week and chase down the "rat in the grass" on another getaway day edition of The Metsian Podcast. Tonight's show goes LIVE at 9:00 pm (EST); feel free to call 646-787-1919 for a quick hot take or direct questions, comments, and rude remarks to @THEMetsianPod on Twitter.
May the Fourth be with you. Despite Wednesday's sixth inning implosion, the force remains strong in Queens. Let's not lose sight of the Mets battling the defending World Champions and coming away with a split and that they are still yet to lose a series this season. That's partly due to some remarkable pitching from Tylor Megill and a bullpen that combined to pitch a no-hitter against the rival Phillies. The front office is performing with conviction as well as they bid adieu to Robinson Cano. Times are indeed changing at Flushing by the Bay. Please join Rich and Mike and featured guest Jon Springer this evening for a getaway day episode of The Metsian Podcast. The show goes LIVE at 9:00 pm (EST); feel free to call in for a quick hot take at 646-787-1919 or send questions, comments, and rude remarks to @TheMetsianPod on Twitter.
You can't win them all, but the Mets are surely winning a lot, and they keep getting hit by pitches! Despite losing Wednesday's finale at St. Louis, they've won their first six series to start the season and return home with a 14-6 record, good enough for first place in the National League East. In that order, pitching, fielding, and timely hitting have led the way, with Buck Showalter spearheading the charge. Please join Sam, Rich, and Mike as they deliberate over one of the finest starts to a season in franchise history. The Metsian Podcast goes LIVE tonight at 9:00 pm (EST). Call 646-787-1919 for a quick hot take, or send questions, comments, or rude remarks to @THEMetstanPod on Twitter.
Play Ball!! After a long off-season of collective bargaining and abbreviated Spring Training, the game of baseball - pitching, defense, and timely hitting - is finally topical again. The New York Mets are now four games into their season, but fans already appear in mid-season form. After commanding the first three games against the Nationals, the Metsville Nine suffered a late-inning collapse on Sunday, thus preventing them from achieving a season-opening sweep at Washington. The next stop is Philadelphia. Afterwhich, it's home sweet home next Friday against the Diamondbacks at Citi Field. Arizona resident and Mets loyalist Anna Brice joins Sam, Rich, and Mike, for an opening series recap and everything Blue and Orange. Tonight's episode of The Metsian Podcast goes LIVE at 9:00 pm (EST); send questions and comments to @THEMetsianPod, or give them a call at 646-787-1919 for a quick hot take. #LGM

Hailing from Brooklyn, Reggie has rooted for the Orange and Blue his entire life. Along the way he became a NYC public school teacher before becoming a reporter at Yahoo Finance and now works in comedy. He can still hear the clank the ball made when it hit the top of the wall before going out.) With spring training games underway, we'll overanalyze and prophesize, ‘cause that's the fun of baseball under the Florida sun. One after the other, candidates for president of baseball operations have fallen by the wayside, forcing Steve Cohen and company to once more punt on the search till next off-season. While they continue to search for a general manager, we wonder: What exactly is it about this job, on the surface seemingly so appealing, be completely the opposite? With the off-season in full force, we will speculate on what the Mets moves could be once they get some sort of front office in place. And lastly, Keith will give us a rundown of what to expect at the QBC this weekend. So, join us live at 8 PM ET for the latest edition of The Metsian Podcast!

Look out, Roosevelt Avenue! That piano falling out of the sky has a New York Mets logo on it. Today's series finale against the Brewers was akin to something out of Looney Toons. If only they were as enjoyable to watch. Swept by the Cardinals, two losses against the Phillies, swept at Boston, and again at Milwaukee, the free fall continues. The season's final homestand opens on Tuesday against the always troublesome Miami Marlins, then it's off to Atlanta to close out the schedule against the Braves. Alas, their remaining games retain little matter in the standings. Please join Sam, Rich, and Mike as The Metsian Podcast regrettably mourns the passing of Flushing's 2021 playoff hopes and aspirations. So many questions on this Metsian offnight, so little time...join us LIVE at 8!

They'll get into the upcoming trade deadline too! What do the Mets need to do? Should they prioritize starting pitching, bullpen, or a bat? With five important games against the Braves on the horizon, should the Mets be willing to jumo now, and maybe pay a higher price in trades, to be fully stocked and ready for those games that will go a long way toward determining a division champion? Listen in at 8 pm tonight! If you want to join the conversation, the number to call is 646-787-1919. Looking forward to the show and talking with you!

The New York Mets have reached the all-star break in first place for the first time since 2007. It has been a rather interesting (slightly more than) first half journey to get there. The Mets saw their season have a delayed start because of COVID-19. Then, they had to weather a slew of injuries (18 players on the IL at one point). We saw names like Jake Hager, Johneshwy Fargas, and Mason Willimas. Yet, the Mets persevered. Most recently, they played 33 games in 31 days, and came out of that in first place. They saw Jacob deGrom experience three "minor" injuries, and Taijuan Walker do a stint on the IL. They lost in excrutiating fashion on Sunday, but you get the idea, they're still in first place. Join, Sam, Mike, and Rich as they talk about the first half, and what the Mets need to do in the second half to play post season baseball for the first time since 2016. We will talk about the highs and lows of Mets baseball from April to mid-July, the upcoming trade deadline, and much more. Listen to the show at 8 pm at the link below. It's officially summertime! Independence Day is ten days away, and the Mets, against all odds, still hold a four-game division lead over the Washington Nationals. While it can be said the Mets are still feeding off their seven-game and five-game winning streaks back in May, they've nonetheless scratched and clawed to stay above par in June. But how much longer can this last? Joining The Metsian Podcast to help answer that question (and talk some 1979 Mets) is the one and only governor of the Kranepool Society, Stephen Keane. Tonight's show goes LIVE at 8:00 pm (EST), sharp! The number to call with questions and/or comments is 646-787-1919, or Tweet us at @TheMetsianPod to have them shared on air. #LGM
Happy Father's Day everyone! The Metsian Podcast welcomes Jeff Cohen of Baseball & BBQ back to the program for a holiday Metsian chat. The Mets have finally sputtered, losing 3 of 4 to the Nationals in Washington after dropping the last game against the Cubs. The big hits have started to dwindle, and other than an impressive first bill of the doubleheader for Francisco Lindor, the offense has been non-existent. The pitching has slumped, including 5 home runs allowed to Kyle Schwarber in 2 games. With many more games coming up against the division this week, what do the Mets need to do in both the short term and the long to protect their first place lead?
