This episode marks the HALFWAY point in the original Classic Marvel Star Wars series that ran from 1977-1986! We break down Issue 54: “STARFIRE RISING” from September 1981, which serves as a continuation of repurposed JOHN CARTER, WARLORD OF MARS artwork created for the cancelled comic series. Not wanting to waste unused artwork which was done by the same artists as the Star Wars series, Chris Claremont was brought in to write a new Star Wars story based on that existing art. Then Walter Simonson adapted art to fit these issues 53 and 54, and Viola you have new Star Wars! We are not sure why this issue is called STARFIRE RISING, but it should have been called CRUSH ON LEIA, since the story revolves around Aron Peacebringer (John Carter) having an existential crisis over his adulterous thoughts on Princess Leia. You can tell the moment the art switches from repurposed John Carter to Star Wars towards the end of the issue. Please enjoy. Today in Star Wars History - May 29, 2019 After a thirty-three-year hiatus, Marvel Comics continues their classic Star Wars series with the release of issue #108 - Forever Crimson. We covered this issue in episode 495 since it was a direct continuation of issue #50: Crimson Forever which came out in 1981. Forever Crimson, published in celebration of Marvel's 80th anniversary, encompasses five short stories that feature Jaxxon, Amaiza Foxtrain, and the droid-hating Valance the Hunter. #54 “STARFIRE RISING" Release Date: September 22, 1981 Writer: Chris Claremont Artwork: Walt Simonson, Carmine Infantino Coloring: Glynis Wein Cover Art: Walt Simonson Imperial General Sk'ar captures Aron Peacebringer and Princess Leia. As the two heroes struggle against their bonds, Aron discovers that his friend Delois, has turned traitor and joined forces with Sk'ar. Now Delois and Skar plan to bomb Aron's government - The Calian Confederacy. When all seems lost, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and Aron's best friend Kéral Longknife arrive to fight the Imperials. Leia finds Sk'ar's anti-matter bomb and begins defusing it, but will she diffuse it in time or will this world be wiped out just like Alderaan? We are very excited to have back on the show James Kahn, author of the New York Times best-selling Return of the Jedi novelization. Also on his resume - he has resuscitated a dying extraterrestrial (E.T.) and saved many humans as an ER doctor IRL. Kahn's writing career blossomed from writing the novelizations of Goonies, Poltergeist, and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, to writing on TV shows Melrose Place, Star Trek: Voyager & a sitcom E/R with actor George Clooney (NOT ER!). James just released My Jedi Memoir: A Double Life, an autobiography that uses the hero's journey in his Jedi novelization to outline the phases of his own life. It's a fascinating read available now on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. We loved reconnecting with James and encourage you to read his book. We break down and review the first 3 ANDOR Season 2 episodes, with a special focus on the “Dinner Party from Hell!” with Dedra Meero, Syril Karn, and his mom the emotionally abusive Eedy. Actors Denise Gough (Dedra) and Kyle Soller (Syril) coined “Dinner Party from Hell” at Star Wars Celebration Japan, and there is no better description. This truly relatable “meet the in-laws” dinner speaks to the entire series, as ANDOR is full of relatable moments juxtaposed with galaxy-altering events. Bryce Eller, the man behind all the Darth Vader TV appearances and the official Vader meet and greets at local department stores, gives us exclusive stories of his time on many TV variety shows and live meet and greet engagements. As a companion piece to my article, Star Wars x 1970's Variety TV, I talk with Bryce to fill in details you won't find anywhere else. Bryce appeared on Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack, Donny and Marie, The Wacko Saturday Preview and Other Good Stuff Special, and Kaptain Kool and the Kongs Present ABC All-Star Saturday! We also go into voicing Darth Vader for these shows, perfecting the Vader walk, and the time he was hit on at a wrap party by a woman who wanted to turn Darth Vader to the deep dark side. Bryce made his Skywalking debut on the two part episodes - 236 and 237. But little did we know then, there were even more stories to tell.

If you don't remember, we are here to remind and prepare you for this new season that premieres on Disney+ on April 22nd. There is lots to go over especially how ANDOR crosses over with STAR WARS REBELS. We did it - our 500th episode!!! To celebrate this milestone we do what we do best - talk about Star Wars. We are so excited to take on one of our biggest discussions ever - comparing and contrasting all seven of the live action Star Wars Disney+ series. We go over the final confrontations, how each show progresses the world of Star Wars, how each series ended but left an opening for another season, and lots more. We look forward to seeing how your ranking compares to ours. Today in Star Wars History Cartoon Network airs the episode “Witches of the Mist” from Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Secrets Revealed Season Three. Written by Katie Lucas. FORTUNE COOKIE: “The path to evil may bring great power, but not loyalty.” In this episode, Ventress and Savage Opress attack Dooku but he gets away. Opress returns to Mother Talzin who tells him to find his long-lost and exiled brother who will teach him how to become a powerful warrior. With his mission set, Opress leaves. Talzin then turns to her crystal orb where a fractured image of Maul materializes. This was part of the arc that was shown at the touring Clone Wars screenings in 2011. This arc kicked off screening Star Wars television episodes at fan events. SPONSORS Small World Vacations is an official sponsor of Skywalking Through Neverland. Our heroes are sent to bring down this technological terror, and at the same time there is a plot within the Empire to kill Darth Vader! In the past, Marvel has tied-in Kenner action figures and playsets. Is that what they are doing here with the Scout Walker vehicle? Or was it because they wanted to feature the cool 2-legged walker seen in The Empire Strikes Back for 2 seconds. Today in Star Wars History Disney+ streams the episode, “Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa” from The Book of Boba Fett which Guest stars Danny Trejo as the Rancor Keeper. (Does Danny Trejo make an appearance in this episode's Marvel comic?) In “The Streets of Mos Espa” the Hutt Twins come to Boba Fett's palace and offer their apologies for sending Black Krrsantan to kill him. This Book of Boba Fett episode also features the BEST Behind the scenes Easter Egg ever! During the speeder chase where the mods were pursuing the Mayor's majordomo, one of the mods crashes through a Ralph McQuarrie painting of Jabba's court from Return of the Jedi. #51 “RESURRECTION OF EVIL" Release Date: June 16, 1981 Writer: David Michelinie Artwork: Walt Simonson, Tom Palmer Cover Art: Walt Simonson General Rieekan receives word from Rebel spies that the Galactic Empire is constructing a new superweapon known as the Tarkin. It's FREAKY FRIDAY 1977 vs. FREAKY FRIDAY 2003!! Seeing Jodie Foster & Lindsay Lohan introduce Jamie Lee Curtis at the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony this year, plus the title announcement for 2025's FREAKIER FRIDAY, inspired a rewatch of these films. So why not do a podcast episode comparing them?? Courtney and Kelly Turckel (Neverland Clubhouse) join us to compare each film. What were our nostalgic memories? How did each handle the body swap, the crush, the little brother? Did the big climactic moment measure up? And how did the 2003 version update the original? This is guaranteed to be a freaky conversation! (If you've seen the 1977 version, you'll agree!) Today in Star Wars History - 9/9/1977 After thirteen weeks on the Billboard 200 chart, the Star Wars Soundtrack peaks at the #2 position. It is topped by Fleetwood Mac's album, Rumours. The 2-LP soundtrack, released by 20th Century Fox, is released in June and goes on to become certified Gold and Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. It goes on to sell 4 million copies and becomes the best-selling symphonic album of all time. SPONSORS Small World Vacations is an official sponsor of Skywalking Through Neverland. This D23: Ultimate Fan Event 2024 celebrated The Sherman Brothers in a big way. They have contributed so much to Disney's legacy, so we wanted to take this episode to pay our own special tribute to them. Walt Disney hired Richard and Robert Sherman in 1960 to be the Walt Disney Studios ONLY in-house composers, and they worked on such classics like Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, The Parent Trap, “The Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room”, “it's a small world after all”, and hundreds more. Richard and Sarah give a brief history of the Sherman Brothers and share our personal stories meeting Richard Sherman. Then, sit back and listen to the entire “Road To Cherry Tree Lane: Walt Disney's Mary Poppins” panel, recorded at D23 2024. Disney music historian Randy Thornton hosted this panel in which he shares how Walt's daughters Diane and Sharon, Davy Crockett, Disneyland/Vista Records, and Annette Funicello were all crucial intersections on “The Road to Cherry Tree Lane ” and Walt Disney's Mary Poppins. You'll hear some great history, and also audio excerpts from the story meetings between the Sherman Brothers and P.L. Travers - writer of Mary Poppins books. If you watch this episode on YouTube, you'll see a slideshow of images to go along with the panel. Prepare yourself, because the tributes continue! During the D23 Disney Parks Showcase panel at The Honda Center on 8/10/24, Meghan Trainor stepped onstage to sing "Feed The Birds", and we've included an excerpt here. Today in Star Wars History - 8/19/1973 Happy Birthday Ahmed Best! For the Star Wars Prequels, Ahmed Best provided the motion capture and voice for Jar Jar Binks who was the first fully-computer-generated supporting character in a feature film. He also provided the voice for Jar Jar in Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series and has a cameo as Achk Med-Beq in Attack of the Clones. This is the second book of The New Jedi Order duology that is contained within the 19-part New Jedi Order series. Mark Hamill: "Pablo Hidalgo just told me about this. It doesn't surprise me. Somebody's using their head. George had talked about me handing Excalibur down to the ‘new young hopefuls' if there ever was a sequel trilogy. it makes sense that Ben ends up being the most influential person in Luke's life. Our ACOLYTE breakdown continues! THE ACOLYTE marks the 5th live-action Disney+ Star Wars series. We've seen the entire first season, so now it's time to share our educated review. We invited Mike Celestino (Laughing Place/ Who's the Bossk) to join us in sharing our favorite moments, surprises, and cameos. What is Qimir's relationship with Darth Plagueis? Should season 2 be R-rated? Will there be a season 2? And did the soundtrack by Michael Abels stand the test of time? Tell us if you agree with our assessment. If you haven't already, listen to Part 1 of our series review with creature performer & actor Dee Tails (Rogue One, Solo, The Force Awakens). He played Senator Chuwant and had some great behind-the-scenes stories. Today in Star Wars History - 7/22/1976 Lucasfilm Head of Marketing, Charles Lippincott, presents the panel, “The Star Wars: A preview w/ Roy Thomas, Howard Chaykin, and Charles Lippincott” at San Diego Comic-Con International. Marvel comic writer Thomas and artist Chaykin follow the slide show with a Q&A. The Chaykin poster sells for $1.75, (You can get it on Ebay right now for $6,195!) Creature performer & actor Dee Tails (Rogue One, Solo, The Force Awakens) joins us to talk about his role as Senator Chuwant and shooting the finale for THE ACOLYTE! He upheld a J.J. Abrams tradition when playing this character - do you know what it is? You can meet Dee at our Classic Marvel Star Wars Comics panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and he will also be signing on July 29 during the Virtual Cantina tour at Scum & Villainy in Hollywood. We planned on having Dee on the same show as our ACOLYTE breakdown with Mike Celestino (Laughing Place / Who's The Bossk) but there was so much to each part that we separated them and our full breakdown will come out in just a few days. Stay tuned! Today in Star Wars History - 7/21/1978 Due to its overwhelming popularity, the theatrical run for Star Wars extends another seven weeks. Although some may call this a re-release, however it was never pulled from theaters. Fun Facts: A new poster is created for this extended release featuring artwork by Charlie White III and Drew Struzan. A monaural audio mix with extra lines of dialogue and sound effects was included in these additional prints. Extra dialogue includes C-3PO's line about cutting the Death Star's tractor beam to allow the Millennium Falcon to leave, and the Stormtrooper shouting to “Close the blast doors,” while chasing Han Solo and Chewbacca through the Death Star corridors. Before this we only heard “Open the blast doors!” The number of film prints totals 1,756 for this release which is an industry record. 300 more prints is added the next week which is the first time a film played in more than 2,000 theaters. Because of a clause in their contract, the only theater to continue playing Star Wars following the seven week extension is the Westgate Theater outside of Portland, Oregon. Following the 76 week run, Star Wars continues there until 11/07/1978. SPONSORS Small World Vacations is an official sponsor of Skywalking Through Neverland.
