Steph chats with brilliant comedian Kelly Convey about motherhood; it's all very fresh for Kelly as she has had two babies with a fifteen month gap, her second still only seven months old. Steph and Kelly discuss those early months of motherhood, flashing the postman, feeling annoyed with your partner and navigating advice from others. Kelly talks about baby group blunders and making mum friends (or not!). As a stand up, they discuss the pros and cons of Kelly being back onstage supporting Alan Carr three months after having a baby, trying to find balance between work and babies, and how she feels that becoming a mum has helped her comedy and connection with the audience. Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe's Lockdown Parenting Hell

Joining us this episode to discuss the highs and lows of parenting (and life) is the brilliant comedian Kelly Convey. Please rate and review. Thanks, Rob + Josh. BIG NEWS.... we're writing a book!  ⭐ All the stories we can't tell on the podcast – in depth. ⭐ What it's like to raise a stiff neck and a loose neck – straight from the horse's mouth (our parents) ⭐ And.. the BIGGEST REQUEST WE'VE EVER HAD FOR THE PODCAST… Hearing from our wives, Rose & Lou. They've got a chapter each and YOU can submit your burning questions to them...   PARENTINGHELLBOOK@BONNIERBOOKS.CO.UK What's it really like to be a parent? And how come no one ever warned Rob or Josh of the sheer mind-bending, world-altering, sleep-depriving, sick-covering, tear-inducing, snot-wiping, bore-inspiring, 4am-relationship-straining brutality of it all? And if they did, why can't they remember it (or remember anything else, for that matter)? And just when they thought it couldn't get any harder, why didn't anyone warn them about the slices of unmatched euphoric joy and pride that occasionally come piercing through, drenching you in unbridled happiness in much the same way a badly burped baby drenches you in milk-sick? Join Josh and Rob as they share the challenges and madness of their parenting journeys with lashings of empathy and extra helpings of laughs. Filled with all the things they never tell you at antenatal classes, Parenting Hell is a beguiling mixture of humour, rumination and conversation for prospective parents, new parents, old parents and never-to-be parents alike. In this conversation I chat to stand up comedian and writer Kelly Convey (https://www.instagram.com/kelly_convey).Kelly was voted by The Metro as ‘1 of 9 Hilarious Women to Look Out for in 2017’. She was a finalist in the South Coast Comedian of the Year and So You Think You’re Funny competitions and has supported Russell Kane, Alan Carr and most recently Adam Hills on tour.Kelly explains why no one needs to know her opinion on anything unless it’s funny and why it's career suicide to give your opinion at an early stage of your stand up career. She opens up about the challenges she faced moving up from paid spots to higher profile gigs, and being compared to more established and experienced comedians by both herself and her peers. And the pressure that came with that. She describes how performing in market towns for older demographics, made her realise that if she wanted to be a mainstream comic, she needed to appeal to a wider audience. And how realising that, has changed her style of performance. She also explains why she purposely doesn’t wear anything to sexualise herself on stage to the audience and why she’s ok with that.We talk about her former careers as a TV exec and working in the travel industry and how getting fired from her job led her committing to stand up and gigging every night for the first 6 months, which resulted in her getting signed to Off The Kerb. Then how her rapid progression from doing open mic gigs to performing 30 minute sets led to a bout of acute anxiety. She describes why it's important as a creative to be professional and have a plan of how you’re going to progress your career and realising that you are your own commodity. We also talk about why Kelly doesn’t like performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, her approach to writing new material, finding her own rhythm and lots more!Happy listening :)Steve - @offkeysteve See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

While her outspoken and forward-thinking musings may go against the grain, ‘there’s a winning authenticity to her material’ that is refreshing and relatable.
