We take time to discuss how Joe is taking action against cancer, and he demonstrates what a true leader in our industry looks like by going beyond his retirement in partnership with #detectogether to continue to advocate for Firefighters across the country, truly leaving the fire service better than he found it. We dive right into his presentation about early detection, and what we can do to help ensure that we are taking the steps to take care of ourselves. Joe has an incredible story of his late friend and local legend Joey Marano, and the “Story of Two Joeys.” He also takes time to talk about his friend, senior man, and mentor Ray Roberts who left us all with a very simple message - “Get your shit checked.” #Repsonsetimematters.org is going nationwide with the help of some industry staples with the likes of #JasonPatton, a guy who is raising awareness for all things health in the Fire Industry. We talk about how Joe played a major role in building a presentation and campaign by treating our self checks like “size ups”, and using common terminology that we use everyday in the fire service to better communicate how important this mission is to all of us. “America's Deadliest Rock Concert: The Guest List” is a new documentary on the Reelz network. It's the story of the infamous Great White concert fire at the Station nightclub in West Warwick, Rhode Island on the night of February 20th, 2003. Great White's onstage pyrotechnics ignited a fast-moving blaze that killed 100 people and injured over 200 more. This new documentary is told through the eyes of the survivors and the victims' families, and recounts the events from the night of the tragic fire to the criminal case and trial, and the civil lawsuit that followed. Great White frontman Jack Russell is featured in the documentary, and you'll hear why his participation was a MUST for filmmaker, David Bellino. David's producing partner, and the attorney who litigated the civil suit on behalf of the victims' family members and the survivors, John Barylick, wrote the book on which the documentary is partially based – “Killer Show: The Station Nightclub Fire, America's Deadliest Rock Concert.” Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider has been a tireless advocate for the survivors and victims' families, and was instrumental in bringing together his fellow musicians to stage a benefit concert in 2008 that was broadcast on VH-1. And Mike Ricardi was at the concert that night with his best friend, Jim Gahan. Mike made it out. Jim did not. David Bellino, John Barylick, Dee Snider, and Mike Ricardi discuss the events of that night, the making of the documentary, the importance of telling this story and remembering the survivors, the victims and all of the families impacted by this unbelievable tragedy, the personal ties they each have to this story, and how they've all found hope, and in Mike's case, some healing, through this project. Jacob Cade represents the young rock rising in music today. The young 19 year old up and coming singer / guitar player from Denver sits down with Growin’ Up Rock to share his experiences working with famed hard rock producer Michael Wagner, and co-writing songs from his upcoming EP release “Hunger” with Lzzy Hale and Joe Hottinger from Halestorm, Rachel Bolan from Skid Row, and Paul Taylor from Winger. We discuss the state of the music business today through the eyes of a young artist. We play some choice cuts from Jacob’s album as well as some of his favorite tunes to crank up. They say that Rock is Dead, and after my visit to Denver and sitting down with Jacob Cade, I think Rock lives strongly in the heart of the young. All you have to do is press play on either Jacob’s 1st album “The Prince Of Rock n Roll” which he wrote when he was 16, or one of the new tunes off his upcoming EP “Hunger” to hear that he not only loves Rock and classic rock like Zeppelin, GNR, Slash, and Aerosmith, but he writes music that has its sights set on bringing back rock to the mainstream. Raw in your face loud guitar riffs with thundering bass and drums layered with aggressive youthful vocals with almost a punk attitude, rips through your car stereo speakers while heading down the highway to a big arena rock show. It's completely exciting for us to see rock is still alive and well in the youth of America. Jacob Cade,  is in the early stages of his ‘Growin’ Up Rock Story”, but he was kind enough to open his door and share with us all the amazing stories he has already built up and given us his insight and views on where he may go from here.
