This is our first part in a series about the homelessness crisis in Wilmington, recorded over the course of the winter storm in late January and early February. In this episode, we head to Christina Park and speak to Professor Steve Metraux and Rev. Patrick Burke of SSAM, and then hear from Friendship House Executive Director Kim Eppehimer about what their plans are for the temporary shelter there.Show Notes:Delaware, we have to fix Wilmington's new Skid Row
Pastor Troy F. Vaughn is a faith leader, author and the Senior Minister of Christ-Centered Ministries. His book Skid Row to CEO sets the tone and topic for today's conversation on the unhoused.https://skidrowtoceo.org/ https://www.instagram.com/diprimaradio/
The episode closes on an inspiring note as Jaden Smith outlines his long‑term dream of opening a permanent building on Skid Row to provide free daily meals, a continuation of his “I Love You” initiative aimed at feeding and supporting L.A.’s unhoused community, with plans extending beyond food to job creation and community upliftment. The episode opens with a dramatic look at Ray J’s recent Valentine’s Day performance, where fans were shaken after seeing what appeared to be blood dripping from his eyes as he performed with a heart monitor strapped to his chest. Recent reports note that Ray J has publicly shared serious heart issues—including his heart functioning at only 25%—and footage from the show intensified concern as viewers questioned whether the moment was a medical emergency or theatrical staging. The conversation then shifts to Beyoncé facing online scrutiny after the daughter of her longtime stage manager alleged he was dismissed after more than 20 years of service and received no severance, sparking heated discussions about loyalty, worker protections, and the realities of entertainment‑industry labor dynamics. From there, the show highlights Megan Thee Stallion’s glamorous 31st birthday, where she was surprised with a baby‑blue Bentley reportedly worth around $200,000, gifted by her boyfriend Klay Thompson—an eye‑catching moment that dominated entertainment headlines and social media feeds. This week on Geekwire, we dig into some big movement in the hard rock and metal world as Skid Row teams up with Sweetwater for a worldwide search for a brand-new singer — and yes, anyone with the pipes can throw their hat in the ring. We also hit comments from Slash, who explains how the Guns N' Roses recording process has always worked as a democracy behind the scenes, plus tour news as W.A.S.P. announces the “1984 to Headless” North American run with special guests KK's Priest. We discuss a tough update from the metal world as Twisted Sister cancels all 2026 reunion shows due to Dee Snider's health challenges, and the reaction across the scene. Also in the mix: Manowar shares emotional words following news about Ross “The Boss,” Accept guitarist Philip Shouse unveils his debut EP, and Blaze Bayley explains why he's stepping away from meet-and-greets at future shows. We check out a funny story from Chris Jericho involving Ozzy Osbourne, along with new music news from Donnie Vie signing to Steven Van Zandt's label. KISS-related headlines dominate part of the show as Gene Simmons joins an all-star tribute to the Bon Scott era of AC/DC, the sons of Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons release the first Stanley Simmons video, and the classic “I Was Made For Lovin' You” video crosses the one-billion-view mark on YouTube. Plus: Brett Carlisle's run on American Idol, the bizarre Chattanooga KISS memorabilia theft story (by popular demand), and renewed discussion around the Kurt Cobain investigation as claims resurface while Seattle police stand by the original ruling. In this episode, you'll hear hard rock, glam, and metal bands absolutely duke it out, both with rival bands and with themselves. We dig into legendary external feuds like Guns N' Roses vs Mötley Crüe, where Axl Rose publicly challenged Vince Neil to a fistfight, and Metallica vs Winger, highlighted by Lars Ulrich literally throwing darts at a Winger poster. We also cover industry power struggles like Skid Row vs Bon Jovi, where refusing to stay an opening act allegedly led to blacklisting and some very public trash talk. The chaos doesn't stop there, as plenty of bands turned on themselves in spectacular fashion. We break down Van Halen imploding across multiple eras, Dokken recording parts separately out of sheer hatred, and Ratt splintering into multiple touring versions while suing each other over the band name. You'll also hear about long-running grudges involving Megadeth, internal dysfunction in KISS, and famously toxic relationships in bands like Enuff Z'Nuff—all proving that sometimes the biggest threat to a band's survival isn't critics or trends, but the people standing next to them onstage. Of course, there's plenty of rock feuds we didn't get to in this episode and we're pretty sure YOU have an idea of what we could cover in future volumes. Let us know in the comments who's rivalry you'd like us to cover next. We hope you enjoy Band Wars and SHARE with a friend. Contact Us! Gavin Newsom is desperately touting a 9% drop in unsheltered homelessness as his presidential audition begins—conveniently forgetting that homelessness exploded 34% under his watch since 2019. That's 50,000 more people living on the streets, but sure, let's celebrate a tiny dip at the end and call it a win. After spending $24 billion with no accountability and using volunteer counts we know are wildly inaccurate, the Governor is cherry-picking data like his political life depends on it—because it does. The reality? Walk through Skid Row, Venice Beach, or downtown LA and tell me if you notice a 9% improvement. This is classic political spin: create a disaster, claim credit for a marginal correction, and hope voters in other states don't know California leads the nation in homelessness, fraud, out-migration, and sky-high costs. Is anyone buying this gaslighting? Can Newsom seriously run for president when his state became a homeless magnet on his watch? Drop your thoughts below, and don't forget to subscribe for more exposés on political spin versus street-level reality.

Got it. Here's the corrected version with those details tightened and accurate, keeping the same sober tone:In this episode, we sit down with Skinny Vinny, comedian, content creator, and podcaster whose journey from idolizing the Jackass crew as a kid to eventually working alongside them is anything but linear.Vinny's story begins on a skateboard, smoking weed and chasing adrenaline, before escalating into a painkiller addiction and eventually heroin. His use cost him nearly everything, including housing. At one point, he was homeless in Vermont, living in a porta potty. After making his way to Los Angeles, Vinny spent three months on Skid Row, a period that marked one of the lowest points of his addiction and survival.Instead, sobriety opened a different path. Through recovery and a series of unlikely chance encounters, Vinny found himself not only back on his feet but working with the very people he once idolized, including co-hosting Steve-O's hit podcast Wild Ride.Vinny's journey is a powerful reminder that addiction does not get the final say. Even after periods of deep suffering and instability, it is possible to reclaim creativity, purpose, and long-held dreams. This conversation is about resilience, recovery, and what can happen when someone chooses to keep going.Connect with Skinny Vinny on InstagramDM me on InstagramMessage me on FacebookListen AD FREE & workout with me on Patreon Connect with me on TikTokEmail me chasingheroine@gmail.comSee you next week!
Music of the Mat is celebrating nine years the only way it knows how: with a hearty pun and a lively discussion about hair metal! Inspired by the recent retirement of Hiroshi Tanahashi and his glorious head of hair, this episode combines two hirsute topics. The hair vs. hair match is a stipulation that has been around for decades in pro wrestling, and hair metal is a genre that has been around for decades in music (even if it's heyday was forty years ago). Andrew is joined by returning guest Damon McDonald (Super J-Cast) to play some of their favorite hair metal songs. Artists played include Ratt, Cinderella, White Lion, Skid Row, Def Leppard, KIX, Bon Jovi, Poison, and many more. Grab your hairspray, pour yourself into the tightest spandex pants you can find, and enjoy this fantastic anniversary show!Theme song: "Hemispheres" by Silent PartnerBluesky: @MusicoftheMat / @justandrew / @thesuperjcastTwitter: @thesuperjcastSuper J-Cast's Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/superjcastAll VOW podcasts, articles, previews, and reviews: VoicesofWrestling.comJoin the VOW Discord to discuss Music of the Mat and other shows/topics: VoicesofWrestling.com/DiscordDonate to Music of the Mat and other VOW podcasts: VoicesofWrestling.com/DonateOur Sponsors:* Check out our sponsor BetterHelp at https://www.betterhelp.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Reena Esmail's childhood in Los Angeles had two soundtracks: the Western classical music her parents loved, and the old, scratchy Bollywood tapes her paternal grandparents would play over and over. Those multicultural influences shaped what would become the driving question of her work: how do you invite people from different cultures onto the same stage to build a relationship and create music together? Composing is how Esmail has made her mark — by putting Western classical musicians in conversation with Indian artists, building bridges between violinists and sitar players, tabla drummers and western singers. She has also composed with unhoused singers from Skid Row, and her music has been performed by major orchestras and choirs all over the world. In May, as part of our series on California composers, host Sasha Khokha brought us this profile of Esmail. Artists are often the people in our communities who bring people together in ways that are creative, spontaneous, and surprising. That's true in the East Bay neighborhood of Point Richmond, where a local artist has created dozens of miniature fairy houses brimming with the personality of their imaginary inhabitants. In this story from April, Pauline Bartolone set out to explore these hidden treasures, and meet the person who created them. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The show kicks off with talk of a Rams watch party and whether the team is truly legit this season. There’s also a local heads-up for Cerritos residents about rising sewage fees, along with practical advice on which bills you should never skip—spoiler: pay your water bill. Michael Monks joins in with his unique take on downtown LA, offering a darkly humorous “weathervane” observation from Skid Row that signals the arrival of winter. The conversation also touches on Burbank’s decision not to pursue litigation over Warner Bros.’ sale to Netflix. Conway then shares memories of his former partner Doug Steckler, including why Steckler despised New Year’s and a hilarious story involving the “Husky section” at Montgomery Ward—one of many classic Steckler moments. The episode wraps with Eric Lisardo’s special “Conway Christmas” segment featuring the signature “Dinga DONGA,” updates from Nick Reiner, and commentary from a defense lawyer weighing in on who hired attorney Alan Jackson. In this episode of Beyond the Letter, Sammy slides into the host chair and is joined by Haron and special guest Allan Walters—three former youth pastors who've spent years discipling the next generation. Together they tackle one big question: are you actually called, or just chasing influence?Allan shares how a lifelong desire to help people, plus years of youth and young adult ministry, slowly revealed his calling—not through a “burning bush moment,” but through consistent burdens and faithfulness. Haron talks about getting saved, starting a random campus Bible study, serving on Skid Row, and discovering that calling usually shows up as a conviction to help people long before it looks like a platform. If you've ever thought, “I feel something… but I don't know if it's really a calling,” or you're torn between ministry, creativity, and influence, this conversation will help you slow down, get honest, and refocus on the One who's actually calling you.--Connect with:Samuel Rodriguez https://www.instagram.com/samuelmrod/Haron Kaisa https://www.instagram.com/kaisaclan/Allan Walters https://www.instagram.com/alllanwalters/--Don't forget to stay connected with us:Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4OvpFp9OB9_DgVdVVbXhFgInstagram https://www.instagram.com/beyond.theletter/Tik Tok https://www.tiktok.com/discover/beyond-the-letter--Have a question? Michael Monks shared the heartwarming story of adopting a feral cat from Skid Row. Meanwhile, the L.A. City Council moved forward with a proposal aimed at fixing the city’s deteriorating infrastructure. Temperatures are expected to warm up. In Van Nuys, officers shot a man after he allegedly killed his father. A memorial was held for Burbank Police K9 Officer Spike, who was tragically killed in the line of duty. The show highlighted how “Foosh heroes” are some of the most humble people around. Kenyati witnessed yet another dramatic car accident involving a vehicle on fire, while Conway joked about shoppers who leave rejected items everywhere—except for the time he stumbled upon a roasted chicken sitting near the tires.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It is with heavy hearts that we present this week's episode as a tribute to Paul Daniel "Ace" Frehley. The rock 'n' roll icon, legendary guitar god, and former KISS guitarist, passed away on October 16, 2025, after suffering a fall in his home studio weeks earlier. Kevin has a profound connection to KISS and Ace as a lifelong fan and proud member of the KISS Army. While not an obscure artist by any means (the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer had 10 gold records, 5 multi-platinum records with KISS, and a platinum solo album), the duo tries to share some lesser-known songs, including a few crazy guest appearances. Excuse Kevin's extensive ramblings about the great Space Ace, but this loss was hard, and the tribute is necessary. Ace was a true character, who played a character, and played with character. A genuine original. A true rock star.New to InObscuria? Typically, what we do is exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. In the case of this particular episode, we are leaning towards the FORGOTTEN. Although a member of a band that holds the RIAA distinction of having the most gold-certified albums overall by any American band is hardly forgotten… In any case, we are paying tribute to one of the greatest guitarists of all time! Rest In Peace, Ace. There will never be another like you!Songs this week include:Criss – “Bad Attitude (feat. Ace Frehley)” from Cat #1(1994)Anton Fig – “Know Where You Go (feat. Ace Frehley & Sebastian Bach)” from Figments (2002)Ace Frehley – “The Girl Can't Dance” from The Girl Can't Dance Demo (1983)Wendy O. Williams – “Bump And Grind” from W.O.W. (1984)Ace Frehley & Kris Randall – “Rise Up (Back From The Grave)” from Rise Up (Back From The Grave) - Single (2014)Chris Cassone – “Never Too Hot (with Ace Frehley)” from The BBQ All Stars (2013)ESP – “Foxy Lady” from Lost And Spaced (1998)Satin – “The Magic Kiss Medley” from Gods Of Thunder: A Norwegian Tribute To KISS (2005)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it: InObscuria StoreIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/

At first glance, these stories might seem disparate in time, history, and gender—but they aren't at all. From resistance to bar raids, arrests, and harassment long before Stonewall, to hate crime murders and legal defenses ratified in courts across the world, until gay panic could no longer be sustained as a murder rationale. Each one of these stories of heartbreak and victory adds a vital detail to the larger story of queer folks and their struggle to achieve equality and full protection under the law. Please subscribe and share these stories. 1. The Homosexual Advance Defense (1993) In 1993, Malcolm Green confessed to killing a man who tried to help him—a case that exposed Australia's "homosexual advance defense" loophole and sparked decades of activism that eventually changed the law. 2. The Black Cat Cafe During WWII, San Francisco police and the liquor board joined forces to shut down queer gathering spaces. The Black Cat Cafe became an early model of resistance, laying groundwork for the activism that would eventually transform law enforcement's relationship with the city's LGBTQ+ community. 3. Colorado's Conversion Therapy Ban at the Supreme Court (2025) On October 7, 2025, a Colorado counselor challenged the state's conversion therapy ban before the Supreme Court. Research consistently shows these practices cause depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation—especially in minors. A ruling against the ban could allow harmful practices to resume nationwide. 4. Cooper Donuts Riot (1959) On a May night in 1959, trans women, lesbians, drag queens, and gay patrons at Cooper Donuts in LA's Skid Row fought back against police harassment—an early act of LGBTQ+ resistance. 5. Pepper Hill Club Raid (1955) Baltimore police arrested 162 people at the Pepper Hill Club, requiring six wagons and 24 trips. A judge condemned the abuse of power, resulting in only a handful of convictions. 6. Justice for Kier Solomon (2021–2025) Kier Solomon, a 21-year-old transgender woman, was found fatally shot in her car at an Arlington, Texas, apartment complex in September 2021—the 38th transgender person killed by violence in the U.S. that year. After nearly four years unsolved, investigators charged Arthur Morris Jr. with her murder in 2025, using digital evidence, app records, and cell phone data to build the case. This episode honors Kier's life and examines what her case means for LGBTQ+ communities safety and justice. 7. The Murder of Julio Rivera (1990) In 1990, 29-year-old Julio Rivera was killed in a brutal act of anti-gay violence in New York City. His murder galvanized the queer community into action, pressuring police to investigate and sending a clear message: they would no longer tolerate being battered, murdered, and ignored. NO INSERTED ADS: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcastThis week on Dopey! In this unbelievably heavy episode, Dave sits with Glynis as she unpacks a lifetime of addiction, trauma, and survival that spans Massachusetts, Texas, L.A., jail, pimping culture, meth psychosis, fentanyl, gang life, and ultimately federal prison. Glynis describes early emotional wounds, resentment toward her mother, the “magnet” pull of addiction, and how heroin became the only place she ever felt OK. She talks about couch-surfing and freezing nights in Boston, smoking meth for the first time in Texas, disappearing on multi-day runs, underground game rooms, GHB comedowns, and getting sucked into the world of pimps, sex work, and Money Mike — a relationship built on psychological control, fear tactics, and the twisted logic of “pimp and ho culture.”Her story escalates into car thefts, robberies, abscesses, neck shots, living in trap motels, being handcuffed to a sink by gang members, and eventually becoming a renegade escort in L.A., buying ounces and then pounds of fentanyl off Skid Row. Glynis explains how she was recruited to smuggle undocumented people across the border — driving a Mercedes with people hidden in the trunk while cartel-connected spotters fed her instructions through Bluetooth. She's arrested, violently kicks fentanyl in federal custody, falls from a bunk, hits her head, and becomes cross-eyed for months. COVID lockdown hits prison, she begins praying out of desperation, and she's unexpectedly released early. Dumped into a chaotic men's sober house, she meets “Jimmy the Poet,” the only sober person there, and for the first time listens when someone suggests recovery. Glynis begins 12-step work, finds community, and slowly becomes a stable, married, sponsoring adult who can finally say she didn't stay broken forever. All that and way more on a rough and tough new episode of the good old dopey show! This week we are giving a cheers to ten years! Join us as we celebrate the anniversary of the Old Smyrna Firehouse (InObscuria and Captain Content HQ). Oh, and it's where we record the show every week! We celebrate by listening to songs that will get you fired up and leave you with a burning sensation! What is it we do here at InObscuria? Robert is forced to test his endurance and provide feedback, as he has no idea what he will be subjected to every week.
