When I heard that Lzzy Hale had signed on to help the Skid Row guys for 4 shows, I was stoked! I was excited for the band, excited for the people who would see her sing live, and excited for Lzzy! After the first show was in the books, I texted Skid Row bassist, Rachel Bolan and drummer, Rob Hammersmith. Both of them were giddy with how the weekend went. That's when I decided to ask Rachel if he'd come on my Talkin' Rock with Meltdown podcast to talk about it. "We had one rehearsal before the first show, and she blew us away." - Rachel Bolan Rachel told me how the ball started to roll at producer, Nick Raskulinecz's birthday party. "I was like, "Hey, man, would you want to step in and do a few shows with Skid Row?" And she, you know, after we kind of cleared out what exactly the shows were because we, you know, I think she kind of thought we were just going to jam at like the Mercy Lounge or something. But, so when we cleared that up, she said, yes. "Let me talk to my, my, team and my people and I'll have an answer for you." And the next day or a couple of days later, I was like, "Hey, man, were you serious about that?" She's like, yeah, it's a go. And we were all excited." "She unleashed that first scream, and we were all just like, whoa." - Rachel Bolan Rachel went on to say that they only rehearsed once before their first show. Lzzy said that she was holding back a little as to not blow out her voice. Then it was time to take the stage. "When we took the stage, 'Slave to the Grind", she unleashed. Unleashed that first scream. I was just like, I'm actually getting chills thinking about it right now. I was we're all just kind of looking at each other like, whoa" He couldn't heap enough praise on the Halestorm front woman. "You know, when someone is great at what they do, people appreciate it. They appreciated Lzzy because she is great. She's just freaking great!" He said the energy on stage was off the charts. "And you could you could feel the energy on stage. And, a few of my friends that said I've never seen you smile so much. You're always like the punk rock don't smile, guy. You know, like you're laughing up there, you're smiling and you're interacting, you know? So it was really cool, man. And we got two more. And I just feel like that's like another nine days and I'm like, climbing wall of, like, what do you know?" The other two shows he's referring to are in Reno, Nevada, and Sacramento, California. "Lzzy Hale is one of the best vocalists on the planet." - Rachel Bolan When I commented that Lzzy is such a badass, Rachel agreed. "You know, you just said something that is, descriptive that everyone has been saying, and that's badass. Man, it's so perfect because she is a badass. She's a beast on stage, man. She's great."

The far more censored version of the award-winning and unparalleled "A Mediocre Time with Tom and Dan." - "A Corporate Time" is a daily companion and terrestrial radio show heard nationally on iHeartRadio. It's silly.
I'd never met any of the three original members of Skid Row before I did an interview with Rachel Bolan last year, and since we've become friends. Great guys, killer band to this day! Rachel and "Snake" Sabo joined me as we talked about the past year, which found the guys adding a new singer, recording an awesome album, and hitting the road non-stop. To say it's been a whirlwind of a year would be an understatement. We talk about seeing KISS for the first time and how that concert changed Snake's life. Since I did this interview on 3/13, which is Detroit's main area code, I asked the guys what the city has meant to them. "The Motown thing had such a huge influence on my growing up" Snake told me. Are they working on new music? Yes. Rachel said they've never started writing this early after releasing new material just last fall. They talk about singer, Erik Gronwall, and his upbringing and love for classic music. I asked them about the '18 and Life' contest. They explain that, that classic song and more. If you're in the southeast Michigan area, they're playing the Motor City Casino Soundboard with Buckcherry on Wednesday, March 15th. I'll see you there! Kow Wetzel is next. Is he a country guy dipping his toes into the rock world, or the other way around? We talk about, as well as partying at Kid Rock's house in Nashville, his outlaw influences, why his music sounds like it does and lots more. He's playing a sold-out show at the Masonic Temple in Detroit on March 25th. -Meltdown- https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/
Hair band Skid Row hails from Tom's River, New Jersay. The band was formed in 1986 by bassist Rachel Boland and guitarist Dave "Snake" Sabo, and rounded out with guitarist Scotti Hill and drummer Rob Affuso. Lead vocalist Sebastian Bach was recruited after being seen as a wedding singer at the age of 18 well before Adam Sandler would reveal this as a potential career option and path to love and fame. Sabo was a high school friend of Jon Bon Jovi, and the two made a pact that if one was sucessful in the music business they would help the other out. This led to Bon Jovi's manager Doc McGee seeking out Skid Row and getting them a contract with Atlantic Records in 1988.Skid Row was the band's eponymously titled debut album, and it would prove to be a huge success over time. Though it received mixed critical reviews, the album went to number 6 on the Billboard 200 charts, and would be certified 5x platinum in 1995 by the RIAA. The band headlined tours for Bon Jovi and Aerosmith in 1989-1990. Bach would be the front man for the band for their first three albums until 1996, when friction between himself and Sabo led to his departure. Skid Row is still active as of 2022, and has released six albums to date.John Lynch takes the helm on this album in his debut as a permanent member of the What the Riff crew. Youth Gone WildThis rocking anthem was the first single released from the album. No matter what walk of life you are from, you are one of us - the youth gone wild. Be true to yourself and not to what others expect of you. "Hi man, there's something that you oughta know. I tell ya Park Avenue leads to Skid Row."I Remember YouThe third single would be the one to really put Skid Row on the map. It is a power ballad depicting a guy who can't get over a long lost love. Bass player Rachel Bolan contributed the lyrics. The line "love letters in the sand" was also the title of a number 1 hit from 1957 by Pat Boone.Sweet Little SisterA deeper cut that sounds a lot like Motley Crue chronicles the trouble that a boy crazy sister of a member of the band can create. "For such a sweet little lady I would swear she's rotten to the core. Oh yes she got her hands in the cookie jar."18 and LifeThis darker ballad tells the story of Ricky who kills someone with a gun while drunk and is sentenced to life in prison. Dave "Snake" Sabo and Rachel Bolan wrote the song after reading a story in the local paper about an 18 year old who accidentally killed his friend with a gun he thought was unloaded. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Theme song from the animated series “ALF: The Animated Series” After its "real life" series, the cat-munching alien ALF returned in animated form. It finished its run in 1989. STAFF PICKS:Charlotte Anne by Julian Cope Bruce leads off the staff picks with a forgotten song that hit number 1 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart at the time. This is the first single from Cope's fourth solo album "My Nation Underground," an album that Cope considers to be a poor album. Julian Cope comes out of the Liverpool punk scene, and his solo work is a bit reminiscent of the Cure.Driven Out by The FixxRob brings us British new wave band The Fixx in a work off their fifth album. It talks about the pillaging of the land driven by greed. "I'm cooking with microwaves to warm up food not seen the soil - plugged into my TV, used to the lies their telling me." It hit number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100, and number 1 on the mainstream rock charts.Funky Cold Medina by Tone Loc Wayne's staff pick was everywhere in 1989. A funky cold medina was an aphrodisiac, and its use would get the singer into all kinds of trouble when he gives it to his dog, or to a girl who turns out to be a transvestite. It peaked at number 3 on the charts, and if the main beat sounds familiar, it may be because it comes from "Hot Blooded" by Foreigner. Two Hearts by Phil CollinsJohn features a song Collins sang for his poorly received film "Buster." Lamont Dozier of Motown fame wrote this song, and it was Dozier's 14th and last number 1 song. It is about two people connected through time and space even when they are not together. NOVELTYTRACK:Let's Put the X in Sex by KissEven rock legends put out a failure from time to time. This could be considered one of those - you be the judge!
On today's episode of the Rockin' Interviews podcast, we are joined by Rachel Bolan of Skid Row. We discussed John Corabi's audition for the band (or lack thereof), taking a chance on new singer Erik Gronwall, the modern-day record label, boy bands, movies and more!

Skid Row is one of the biggest bands of it's genre thanks to a stream of hit songs and millions of albums sold. With a new singer, former Sweden Idol winner Erik Grönwall, the band feels they have a synergy not seen from them in years, and it shows too. Lots covered in a short amount of time on this episode of Talkin' Rock. The Smashing Pumpkins are on tour with Janes Addiction. Billy talks about what it's like to be back out and playing in front of the fans again. We talk about the upcoming three album, three rock opera ATUM records. He explains the process and vision of that project. Plus, a little wrestling talk to round it out. The new Skid Row album drops on October 14th, so Snake was making the rounds and gave me a few minutes to talk about The Gang's All Here. I also enlisted some "fan" questions from a guy named Rachel Bolan, Rob Hammersmith and a couple other guys, Scott Ian and Frank Bello....wink, wink. Skid Row bassist Rachel Bolan discusses the band's hiring of singer Erik Gronwall and the release of the new album "The Gang's All Here" out Oct. 14. Bolan even takes us way back to the Moscow Peace Festival and shares memories of that outrageous event from 1989.
Dave “The Snake” Sabo is a guitarist, songwriter and founding member of the band Skid Row. The band was formed in 1986 with bassist/songwriter Rachel Bolan and originally called Darkness. They went on to sell millions of records and tour with Guns ‘N Roses, Motley Crue, Kiss and others. Steve Cooper talks with musician Rachel Bolan. Rachel is the bassist, songwriter and co-founder for Skid Row. Skid Row's self titled debut album in 1989 sold over 5 million copies in the U.S. and had four singles accompanied by videos. (18 and Life, Youth Gone Wild, I Remember You and Pieces of Me.) Their follow up, "Slave to the Grind" was the first metal album to debut at number one on the charts. Since then they have recorded 5 albums and continue to tour the world.
Talvez sim. I like taking Tuinol Joey Ramone canta Joey Ramone. E a gente adora . A gente segue com o cover do Skid Row com o baixista Rachel Bolan nos vocais que eu acho demais. Essa aparece no disco B Sides Ourselves e tem covers bem diversas. Vale a ouvida.

RACHEL BOLAN Rachel Bolan is the co-founder and songwriter for the band SKID ROW. Rachel realized that he wanted to be a performer at a very young age when he went to see Liberace with his parents and Grandmother. "I was only 5 years old, but was taken aback by the energy that filled the venue" Rachel said. It was after that moment he began listening to all the records that his brother and sisters owned. The first record he purchased was The Rolling Stones – Sticky Fingers. It changed his life. After that he was turned on to the likes of Alice Cooper, Kiss, Sex Pistols and Ramones to name a few. His first gig was in 1978 at Manasquan high school in Manasquan, NJ. In 1986 Rachel met Snake and the rest is history. Outside of Skid Row, Rachel produces other bands and writes songs for other artists, sports teams and with Snake writes music for ESPN. It’s the 30th anniversary of Skid Row’s self-titled debut album, and founding members, guitarist Dave “Snake” Sabo and bassist Rachel Bolan, share all the dirty details of what it took to make it happen! They explain the help and support they received from childhood friend Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora, how they ended up being managed by Doc McGhee, what went into the search for a singer that eventually led them to Sebastian Bach, and why the album cover didn’t clearly feature the band’s picture. They also do a track-by-track breakdown revealing what inspired the music and lyrics behind the songs, and why Richie Sambora lobbied so hard for “18 And Life” to be released as a single.

Jacob Cade represents the young rock rising in music today. The young 19 year old up and coming singer / guitar player from Denver sits down with Growin’ Up Rock to share his experiences working with famed hard rock producer Michael Wagner, and co-writing songs from his upcoming EP release “Hunger” with Lzzy Hale and Joe Hottinger from Halestorm, Rachel Bolan from Skid Row, and Paul Taylor from Winger. We discuss the state of the music business today through the eyes of a young artist. We play some choice cuts from Jacob’s album as well as some of his favorite tunes to crank up. They say that Rock is Dead, and after my visit to Denver and sitting down with Jacob Cade, I think Rock lives strongly in the heart of the young. All you have to do is press play on either Jacob’s 1st album “The Prince Of Rock n Roll” which he wrote when he was 16, or one of the new tunes off his upcoming EP “Hunger” to hear that he not only loves Rock and classic rock like Zeppelin, GNR, Slash, and Aerosmith, but he writes music that has its sights set on bringing back rock to the mainstream. Raw in your face loud guitar riffs with thundering bass and drums layered with aggressive youthful vocals with almost a punk attitude, rips through your car stereo speakers while heading down the highway to a big arena rock show. Ahhh, don’t that just bring back the memories? It's completely exciting for us to see rock is still alive and well in the youth of America. Jacob Cade, is in the early stages of his ‘Growin’ Up Rock Story”, but he was kind enough to open his door and share with us all the amazing stories he has already built up and given us his insight and views on where he may go from here. Jacob will also be appearing at this years Rock n Pod 2 Expo in Nashville, so hopefully you will make the trip. It’s an entertaining discussion with some righteous loud rock n roll mixed in. "To be completely honest, and full disclosure, every time you play with another band - whether you're opening for them or headlining - you wanna kick their ass," admitted Skid Row bass player and founding member Rachel Bolan of the band's attitude to performing live. "Even if they're your best friends, you just wanna go out there and kick their ass and that's our attitude every time we go out. Whether they're friends or not (laughs) we've got a job to do and that is to kick their ass."It is an attitude that has served Skid Row well throughout their nearly thirty-year career, and one which they will continue to exploit on their upcoming United World Rebellion tour kicking off in Brisbane on October 18."We've always been a band whose mantra was believe in yourself and do what you wanna do, but most importantly believe in yourself," Bolan measured, "otherwise no-one else will. We just took that a little further with how when you're a musician or when you're weird - but that's usually all musicians anyway (laughs) - but when you're weird or different people try to overlook you or put you in a box and that's something we've never dealt with well. It's like, nah, screw that, we're doing it our way and we're gonna succeed at it. That's the theme behind United World Rebellion."In a candid interview, Rachel discusses the tour and upcoming final album in the United World Rebellion trilogy, what new vocalist ZP Theart brings to the band and how he came to join, as well as a few tales from the early days of Skid Row and the future of the band.Kris PetersTOUR DATESOctober 18 - Eatons Hill, BrisbaneOctober 19 - Prince Bandroom, MelbourneOctober 20 - Manning Bar, SydneyOctober 21 - Astor Theatre, PerthOctober 23 - The Gov, AdelaideOctober 24 - Studio, Auckland

Skid Row bassist Rachel Bolan and producer Michael Wagener join the guys this week for Albums Unleashed Skid Row. Recorded in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Skid Row was released January 24, 1989 on Atlantic Records. Thanks to strong response to singles such as 'Youth Gone Wild,' '18 and Life,' 'Piece of Me,' and the ballad 'I Remember You,' Skid Row would go on to sell over 5 million copies. This self-titled debut featured the talents of bassist Bolan, drummer Rob Affuso, singer Sebastian Bach, and the twin-guitar assault of Scotti Hill and Dave "The Snake" Sabo. In this nearly two hour discussion, Bolan discusses the early days of Skid Row, including a period pre-Bach that featured vocalist Matt Fallon. Fallon would unfortunately go down in infamy as someone that lost out on stardom not once but twice as he was jettisoned from jobs with Anthrax and Skid Row. Bolan also shares the circumstances that led to Bach's hiring at the young age of 19. Michael Wagener shares his memories of how he was brought on board to produce the album by A&R man Jason Flom and Skid Row manager Doc McGhee. Albums Unleashed Skid Row Skid Row's beginnings were helped in part to Bon Jovi. Guitarist Sabo was childhood friends with Jon Bon Jovi and the friends had agreed to help each other out if one "made it" before the other. But Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora were not going to lend a hand until Skid Row was ready. In this long-form discussion, Bolan shares stories of rounds of songwriting between he and Sabo being critiqued by the two Bon Jovi leaders and scrutinized until they deemed the band ready. Recording the album in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Skid Row and Wagener got down to business right away. In this discussion, Michael shares his memories of the production of 'Skid Row' and how the band, while certainly having a wild side, were all business when it came to their time in the studio. Rachel also remembers the hobbies that he took up to help pass the time in the Midwest during production. Bolan and Wagener detail track by track the songwriting and production of each song on the album. It's an in-depth look behind the scenes of one of the biggest hard rock debut albums of all-time.
