Ted Neward is sometimes referred to as “The Dude of Software,” owing to both his remarkable (some say frightening) resemblance to the Jeff Bridges character from “The Big Lebowski,” and his ordination as a Dudeist Minister of the Church of the Latter-Day Dude, but he's also been called the ”Dr. Gregory House of Software,” owing to his tendency to pull no punches when talking about software and how to deliver it successfully. He's comfortable answering to either title, as well as a few others. He's familiar with more programming languages than most people knew existed and hasn't found one yet that he couldn't turn into a “mission-critical” application when asked. Topics of Discussion: [4:36] Ted talks about building a tribe and developing a community. [6:48] Leveraging the “who you know” network. [7:21] Tips for keeping track of your network. [9:44] Effective software team management. [13:10] The importance of shifting perspective from individual success to team success. [16:16] The component of compassion in management. [17:53] Managers should actually want to be managers. [18:43] Retaining employees and realizing that management skills need to be recognized and developed. [27:02] The tipping point of needing to hire a full-fledged IT department. [32:34] Advice for managers on the people side. [34:08] Team success metrics, weekly one-on-ones, and building psychological safety. [38:32] Importance of team happiness and direct communication with executives for successful software development. [43:52] Developing the skills of leadership. [44:39] Remembering that not all management is evil. Join us for a thought-provoking journey as we delve into the fabric of our human experience. In today's episode, we ponder the notion of whether there's a malevolent force orchestrating our lives or if we're simply crafting meaning from the chaos. As humans, we're wired to weave narratives, finding significance even in the seemingly mundane. Ever heard of the Church of the Latter-Day Dude? It emerged from the cult classic film "The Big Lebowski," but did the Coen brothers anticipate its creation? And what about individuals like Rick Rubin, encouraging us to tap into our creative depths? But is creativity solely reserved for the privileged few or accessible to all, even those struggling to make ends meet? We'll contemplate embracing our present circumstances, even if they diverge drastically from our past expectations. Plus, a curious dive into the enigmatic "Running Scared" from Paul Walker's repertoire. So buckle up as we navigate why Eddie Vedder might just be a more pleasant guest than Gary Payton. ~Enjoy the Journey~ IG - @adamriehlhealing FB - facebook.com/adamriehlhealing FB - facebook.com/robin.grether.1 IG - @itzyourweirdaunt
Timestamps below. Friend of the podcast Lee Rodio stopped by to preview Duke's 2023 season. In addition to catching us up on what he's been doing since his last interview, Lee gives his perspective on the strengths of the Blue Devils. He points out we have a great staff, a veteran team and talented people on the OL and DL. Lee is high on Duke and what the Blue Devils can accomplish this season. We also get into a discussion about one of the greatest Duke players ever - DeVon Edwards. And there's a brief detour into a discussion about Ingles grocery stores. Oh, and happy late birthday to Noel Durfey! During this excellent interview, Lee decides to set up shop in Cancelvania. Lee goes after Florida State, implies Clemson can't compete outside of the ACC (his opinion, not mine), throws some shade at Dabo (again, his opinion, NOT MINE), unleashes a right hook on Pat Narduzzi and trashes the hurry-up offense. He also trashes Maryland, but that's just stating facts. I also take a trip to Cancelvania when I characterize the ACC's marriage to Notre Dame as an abusive relationship. But, let's be honest - the Notre Dame deal is going to turn the ACC into the Big East 2.0. Also, I say that the B1G is soft. Which, again, accurate. Another key point in the interview involves the fact that I'm now an ordained minister in The Church of the Latter-Day Dude. Abide, my brothers and sisters. Abide. Some of the conversation we had dealt with expansion which, as of the time of writing this, looks to be DOA. But, as of the time of editing this, may be back on. So, if you want to skip the expansion and get straight to the season preview, the timestamps are below: 0:00 - Introductory comments and general expansion issues 19:47 - Cal, Stanford, SMU and the future of the ACC 39:48 - Duke's strengths for 2023 (and ancillary matters) 108:56 - Schedule prediction 131:53 - Open Mic 133:19 - Surprise announcement and ending Let me know what you think about what we think in the comments, on Mastodon, on Reddit, on Post, on Instagram, Spoutible, or on Twitter. This week we discuss Bryon becoming an ordained minister, floating clusters of tetrahedrons, and the gay gene.
In Episode 18, we chat with Moscow artist, illustrator, and Jeweled Moon owner Patrick Kwiatkowski. Before the interview, we drink some crowlers of Sunny Spot by Susquehanna Brewing Company in Pittston courtesy of our newest sponsor, Beer Boys in Wilkes-Barre, and this is a different version of the summertime grapefruit shandy that you can only get at Beer Boys. This one is dry hopped with Citra, cask conditioned, and served at 55 degrees, giving it a much more natural, juicy, and fresh taste. Then we talk with Patrick about drawing as a kid and picking it up again later in life, developing as an artist, how jam bands like the Grateful Dead and Phish have inspired his work, taking music and turning it into art, following bands around and being a part of jam band culture, the importance of family-friendly venues like Mountain Sky in Jermyn, his relationship with his young daughter and her role in his work, creating his own original comic book, selling his art through Jeweled Moon, dabbling in local theatre and what movies are missing today, working in the local electrical workers union, the Church of the Latter-Day Dude, and more. We also answer some questions and comments from live viewers. In The Last Word segment, we discuss the ongoing controversies surrounding Camp Bisco in Scranton, debating its pros and cons and whether its issues with drugs and other crimes are overblown by the media or if The Pavilion at Montage Mountain should not agree to host the EDM music festival again after three years as we read and react to comments we received from readers. What is Friendly Faith Finder featuring special guest, Carolina Terbush Church of the Latter Day Dude: http://dudeism.com
Original Description: First up, sorry about my voice and any other shoddy work this week! I’ve been sick and my vocal chords. My chat with Rev. Gary sounds fine, though. That said, today on the show is Rev. Gary! Right now he’s basically the spokesperson of the church, so… we talk about that. We learn about his background, how he got into Dudeism, and whether or not the Big Lebowski is one of his favorite movies(???). Also! Stick around until the end for a new installment of T. Time! We talk for 20 minutes about… something… I mean, I’m sure we talk about SOMETHING. Done listening and ready to join the movement? Why not go LEGALLY ordain yourself in the Church of the Latter-Day Dude? IT’S FREE! Also, feel free to go on Amazon and pick up some of their books. And when you’re done with all that, check out T’s new self-help website!
