Voter registration trends suggest Republicans could turn Pennsylvania red for the first time in decades. Observers also see a rise in the power of voters who don't support either party. Northeastern Pa. Congressman Rob Bresnahan has unveiled legislation to support food bands and farmers, as well as lay the groundwork for the next nationwide Farm Bill. This is in response to the USDA's decision to eliminate a $13 million dollar food aid program. This weekend the Steamtown National Historic Site will celebrate RailFest and the park's 30th anniversary. Governor Josh Shapiro's office is proposing a 49.9-billion-dollar budget to Pennsylvania lawmakers, as an attempt to end the state's two-month stalemate. A central Pennsylvania woman who helped spread lies about the 2020 presidential election is now a member of the Trump Administration. heather Honey has been appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Department of Homeland Security, where her role will be to oversee election integrity. A whistleblower within the Pennsylvania Department of Aging says the Shapiro administration is retaliating against him, after he raised alarms about elder abuse system failures. Law enforcement officials in Pennsylvania and 20 other states are calling on the federal government to declare an emergency in response to a drug know of the streets as "designer Xanax." Labor Day weekend brings colorful arts festivals to the region's major cities. In Harrisburg, the 109th annual Kipona Festival runs Saturday through Monday, featuring "art in the park", along with a giant puppet parade, the Keystone Dock Dogs competition, food trucks and music. In Lancaster, the 47th annual Long's Park art Festival features 200 artists across the city park, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Severe flash flooding earlier this month swept across parts of Northeastern Pennsylvania, leaving communities in Luzerne, Lycoming, and Columbia counties scrambling to respond to quickly rising waters and damaged infrastructure. The deluge, which began around 2:30 a.m. on July 14, caused significant disruptions in areas such as Kingston Borough, Harveys Lake, and West Nanticoke—longtime hot spots for flooding. Luzerne County Deputy Director of Emergency Services David Elmore joined The Spark to walk us through what unfolded that morning and how the county responded. “We started receiving reports from Butler Township, Fairmont Township, Ross Township, and parts of Wilkes-Barre City,” said Elmore. “Most of it was caused by a large amount of rain in a small period of time.” One of the hardest-hit areas was Fairmount Township, where water overflowed from Lake Jean in Ricketts Glen State Park, surged down the mountainside, and inundated Route 118. The result: overwhelmed culverts, damaged roadways, and debris flowing into residential yards. Despite the intensity of the flooding, widespread evacuations were largely avoided. A few residents from summer cottages in Patterson Grove required assistance when water blocked road access, but most remained safely in their homes. “It was mostly roadways affecting the flow of traffic,” Elmore said. “The water recedes fast—that’s the key. It’s flash flooding. Water comes down, and it recedes quite quickly.”Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Companies that mine metallurgical coal are now in line to receive a 2.5% tax credit thanks to the bill. Controversy has erupted after a Northeastern Pennsylvania county is cut a band from a popular concert series. The move appears to be connected to concerns over the band's lyrics and statements by the lead singer. The Carlisle School Board is set to vote on whether to ban high school students from using cellphones. Hey friends, welcome back to Inspire Create Manifest. I'm your host, Joe Longo, and today I'm sharing a powerful re-release of a conversation I had with the incredible Jennifer Estel, founder of B & Let Liv and co-owner of Endless Mountains Vineyard & Winery in Benton, Pennsylvania.Jennifer is a passionate advocate and the heart behind B & Let Liv, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting and advocating for misunderstood dog breeds, especially those labeled as “pit bulls.” The organization works to fight breed-specific legislation, raise awareness, and provide second chances to dogs who've been unfairly judged simply because of how they look.Their mission is rooted in compassion, education, and real action to challenge the myths that surround these beautiful animals. From public outreach to rescue support, B & Let Liv is helping dogs and communities thrive together. This week, B & Let Liv is proudly participating in NEPA Gives, a powerful 24-hour online giving event that unites individuals across Northeastern Pennsylvania to support local nonprofits making a real impact. If you've ever loved a dog who was misunderstood, or if you believe in second chances and changing outdated systems, this is the moment to support.
