Thanks to our Partner, NAPA Autotech TrainingIn this episode, Matt Fanslow dives into listener-submitted questions, covering a wide range of automotive diagnostic and repair topics. From personal influences in the industry to technical advice on exhaust gas analyzers, catalytic converter testing, and ADAS calibrations, Matt shares his insights and expertise.1. Who Do You Try to Emulate?Matt reflects on the mentors and industry leaders who have shaped his approach to diagnostics and repair.TV Doctors vs. Real Mentors: While he jokes about emulating fictional doctors like Hawkeye Pierce, Gregory House, and Perry Cox, Matt credits real-world experts like John Thornton, Randy Burkholder, Jim Kemper, Matthew Ragsdale, Harvey Chan, and John Riegel for their influence. The Value of Deep Research: Matt highlights the importance of studying SAE documents, technical manuals, and foundational books like Internal Combustion Engine Fundamentals by John B. Heywood.Thought Leaders in the Industry: He also mentions Jim Wilson (ScanShare.io), Scott Manna, and others for their diagnostic methodologies and problem-solving approaches.Takeaway: Success in automotive diagnostics comes from continuous learning, leveraging industry resources, and adopting best practices from experienced professionals.2. Exhaust Gas Analyzers – What to Look For?A listener asks about choosing the right exhaust gas analyzer for their shop. Matt breaks down the key features:PC/Android Interface: Essential for graphing gas readings (lambda, air-fuel ratio) over time.Portability: Needed for on-road testing to monitor performance under real driving conditions.Fast Sample Times: Look for analyzers with low transfer delays (under 5 seconds) for accurate real-time data.Cost Consideration: Expect to invest 5,000–5,000–7,000+ for a quality unit. Takeaway: A good exhaust gas analyzer should provide real-time data logging, lambda calculations, and portability for effective diagnostics.3. Testing Catalytic Converters – Temperature vs. PCM DiagnosticsA student questions the validity of using infrared thermometers to test catalytic converters after hearing conflicting advice.PCM Algorithms Are Superior: Modern vehicles use complex oxygen storage calculations—far more accurate than manual temperature checks. Why Temperature Testing Falls Short:A "bad" cat might still pass a temp test.A "good" cat might fail due to external factors (exhaust leaks, sensor issues).Best Practice: Trust OBD-II diagnostics, fuel control verification, and factory procedures over manual methods.Takeaway: Always verify fuel control, exhaust integrity, and PCM data before condemning a catalytic converter.4. ADAS Calibrations – Troubleshooting Static Windshield Camera IssuesA technician struggles with static calibrations for windshield-mounted cameras. Matt offers troubleshooting tips:Check the Windshield Glass: Aftermarket glass is a common culprit for calibration failures.Lighting Conditions:Too much LED glare? Try diffusers or dimming shop lights.Use shipping blankets to reduce reflections on the hood/dash.Target Placement: Ensure the target is positioned per OEM specs—avoid background interference.RTFM (Read the Factory Manual): Always follow OEM procedures for target setup.Takeaway: Calibration issues often stem from glass quality, lighting, or incorrect target alignment—double-check these factors first.Listener Q&A Submission: Have a question for Matt?

Ted Neward is sometimes referred to as “The Dude of Software,” owing to both his remarkable (some say frightening) resemblance to the Jeff Bridges character from “The Big Lebowski,” and his ordination as a Dudeist Minister of the Church of the Latter-Day Dude, but he's also been called the ”Dr. Gregory House of Software,” owing to his tendency to pull no punches when talking about software and how to deliver it successfully. He's comfortable answering to either title, as well as a few others. He's familiar with more programming languages than most people knew existed and hasn't found one yet that he couldn't turn into a “mission-critical” application when asked.   Topics of Discussion: [4:36] Ted talks about building a tribe and developing a community. [6:48] Leveraging the “who you know” network. [7:21] Tips for keeping track of your network. [9:44] Effective software team management. [13:10] The importance of shifting perspective from individual success to team success. [16:16] The component of compassion in management. [17:53] Managers should actually want to be managers. [18:43] Retaining employees and realizing that management skills need to be recognized and developed. [27:02] The tipping point of needing to hire a full-fledged IT department. [32:34] Advice for managers on the people side. [34:08] Team success metrics, weekly one-on-ones, and building psychological safety. [38:32] Importance of team happiness and direct communication with executives for successful software development. [43:52] Developing the skills of leadership. [44:39] Remembering that not all management is evil.   Mentioned in this Episode: Clear Measure Way Architect Forum Software Engineer Forum Programming with Palermo — New Video Podcast! Neurodivergent characters are becoming more prevalent in TV and film, although many are still coded rather than explicitly identified as neurodivergent. In this episode of the Neurodivergent Experience, Jordan James and Simon Scott discuss autistic representation in TV and film. They explore characters like Sherlock Holmes and Gregory House, who exhibit neurodivergent traits, and delve into the X-Men and how the characters in the series represent neurodivergent experiences, the importance of neurodivergent artists and creators in shaping these characters and emphasize the relatability of superheroes and the impact of pop culture on the neurodivergent community. The conversation addresses the issue of negative representation and stereotypes in shows like 'The Good Doctor' and emphasizes the need for authentic representation by neurodivergent people and concludes by emphasizing the significance of accurate and diverse representation in media.TakeawaysThe representation of neurodivergent characters often reflects the desire for recognition, validation, and understanding experienced by many neurodivergent individuals.Autism Awareness Month and similar initiatives can be seen as performative and insufficient, as acceptance and celebration of neurodivergent people should be continuous. There are examples of neurodivergent characters in various TV shows, including The Big Bang Theory, The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Rick and Morty. Neurodivergent characters in media, such as Doctor Who and Mr. Bean, provide representation and relatability for neurodivergent individuals.Companions and teams play a crucial role in the stories of neurodivergent characters, highlighting the importance of social connections.Negative representation and stereotypes in shows like 'The Good Doctor' can be harmful and perpetuate misconceptions about neurodivergent individuals.Authentic representation by neurodivergent people is essential for accurate and diverse portrayals of neurodivergence in media.00:00 Introduction and Autistic Representation10:37 The X-Men: Neurodivergent Superheroes36:39 Neurodivergent Characters in Big Bang Theory45:31 Neurodivergent Representation in IT Crowd: Richard Ayoade52:26 Neurodivergent People Thrive in Collaboration01:03:02 The Good Doctor: Perpetuating Stereotypes01:10:43 Neurodivergent Representation in Brooklyn Nine NineWhether you're Neurodivergent yourself, a friend, family member, or simply curious about this extraordinary way of experiencing the world, this podcast is your guide to unravelling The Neurodivergent Experience.Instagram: @theneurodivergentexperiencepodFacebook: theneurodivergentexperienceYoutube: @TheNeurodivergentExperience Hosted on Acast. What Your GP Doesn’t Tell You

Dr Lisa Sanders, writes a column called Diagnosis in the New York Times magazine, which was the inspiration for the Fox medical drama House, M.D. .The show in which Hugh Laurie, playing Dr Gregory House, regularly managed to diagnose the most obscure of medical conditions. But today Lisa has arguably a rather tougher challenge than Hugh Laurie ever faced, she's recently become the Medical Director of Yale's Long Covid Multidisciplinary Care Center.   Long Covid  can affect multiple systems and organs in the body, and finding effective treatments so far has proved extremely difficult. However, Lisa reveals several approaches that it does appear can help at least some patients. She argues that we need to see long covid not as entirely new phenomenon, but in the context of many other post-acute infection syndromes such as ME/CMFS or flu. Controversially,  Lisa suggests that it needed enough doctors to get sick from long covid for the profession to start taking these syndromes more seriously.

On today's episode, we dive into the art of persuasion and the nuances behind lying. Whether we're embellishing the truth, casting doubt on the truth, or avoiding the sting of awkwardness, deceptive behavior can be both harmful and adaptive. Harmful in the sense that calculated, methodical lying with a malicious intent of deceiving, could cost someone precious parts of their identity. Adaptive in the sense that white lies, or surface-level fibs, can spare someone hurt feelings and a lot of relationship repair. Persuading others to act as a reference for a job interview is a version of lying the same way posting filtered and over-sensationalized Insta posts is a lie. We tell lies to escape unpleasant outcomes, as well as obtaining access to both tangible and intangible things. Dr. Gregory House said it best: everybody lies.  Tune in to divulge your own lying behavior, learn how to align your own motivation with that of others, and conquer your world— one stretched-truth at a time.

9-1-1 911 what's your emergency?

This episode is about my top tv shows. It was very hard to choose the tv shows because I have too many that I really enjoy watching over and over. Here are them: #10 Heroes Ordinary people around the world discover they have super powers. Their lives intertwine as they work together to prevent a catastrophic future. #9 Fringe FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham is assigned to the bureau's Fringe Division, in which she investigates unusual crimes and occurrences. Assisting Olivia in her investigations are once-institutionalised scientist Dr Walter Bishop, his jack-of-all-trades son, Peter, and FBI Junior Agent Astrid Farnsworth. #8 Chuck Computer geek Chuck Bartowski opens an e-mail that has been encoded, subliminally, with vital government secrets, triggering a massive download of critical information to his brain. With assassins and international terrorists eager to nab Chuck's noggin, it falls to Maj. John Casey and his partner, CIA agent Sarah Walker, to protect the government's newest and most-unlikely secret agent. #7 House At fictional Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey, prickly genius Dr. Gregory House tackles health mysteries as would a medical Sherlock Holmes, all the while playing mind games with colleagues that include his best friend, oncologist James Wilson. House, an acerbic infectious disease specialist, solves medical puzzles with the help of a team of young diagnosticians. #6 CSI: Miami A Florida team of forensics investigators uses cutting-edge scientific methods and old-fashioned police work to solve crimes. Horatio Caine, a former homicide detective, heads a group of investigators who work crimes amid the steamy tropical surroundings and cultural crossroads of Miami. #5 The Blacklist For decades, ex-government agent Raymond "Red" Reddington has been one of the globe's most wanted fugitives. But then he agreed to work with the FBI to catch his "blacklist" of mobsters, spies and international terrorists -- on the condition that he must work with profiler Elizabeth Keen. Red's true intentions -- choosing Liz, a woman with whom he seemingly has no connection -- are unclear. Does Liz have secrets of her own? Red promises to teach Liz to think like a criminal "to see the bigger picture," whether she wants to or not. #4 The Big Bang Theory Mensa-fied best friends and roommates Leonard and Sheldon, physicists who work at the California Institute of Technology, may be able to tell everybody more than they want to know about quantum physics, but getting through most basic social situations, especially ones involving women, totally baffles them. How lucky, then, that babe-alicious waitress/aspiring actress Penny moves in next door. Frequently seen hanging out with Leonard and Sheldon are friends and fellow Caltech scientists Wolowitz and Koothrappali. Will worlds collide? Does Einstein theorize in the woods? #3 The Punisher After exacting revenge on the people responsible for the deaths of his wife and children, Frank Castle uncovers a conspiracy that runs deeper than New York's criminal underworld. Now known as the Punisher, he must dig deep into the conspiracy to discover the truth about injustices that affect more than just him and his family. Assisting the vigilante in his quest to fight criminals are best friend Billy Russo, who runs private military corporation Anvil, and former NSA analyst Micro, who shares common enemies with Castle and helps him as part of a so-called marriage of convenience. #2 Daredevil The first in a planned series of shows detailing the Marvel universe, "Daredevil" follows Matt Murdock, attorney by day and vigilante by night. Blinded in an accident as a child, Murdock uses his heightened senses as Daredevil to fight crime on the streets of New York after the sun goes down. While Murdock's day job requires him to believe in the criminal justice system, his alter ego does not follow suit, leading him to take the law into his own hands to protect his Hell's Kitchen neighborhood and the surrounding communities. #1 Arrow When presumed-dead billionaire playboy Oliver Queen returns home to Starling City after five years stranded on a remote island in the Pacific, he hides the changes the experience had on him, while secretly seeking reconciliation with his ex, Laurel. By day he picks up where he left off, playing the carefree philanderer he used to be, but at night he dons the alter ego of Arrow and works to right the wrongs of his family and restore the city to its former glory. Complicating his mission is Laurel's father, Detective Quentin Lance, who is determined to put the vigilante behind bars. The Flash At 11, Barry Allen's life changed completely when his mother died in a freak accident and his innocent father was convicted of her murder. Orphaned Barry later becomes Detective Joe West. Now a crime-scene investigator, his dedication to learn the truth about his mother's death drives him to follow up on every new scientific advancement and urban legend. When his latest obsession - a particle accelerator heralded as a world-changing invention - causes an explosion, it creates a freak storm and Barry is struck by lightning. He awakes from a coma nine months later with the power of superspeed. When he learns that others who have gained powers use them for evil, he dedicates himself to protecting the innocent, while still trying to solve the older mystery.   Honory Mentions Weed Supernatural Battlestar Galactica Silicon Valley TrueBlood Game of Thrones Luke Cage

So, remember that episode of The Brady Bunch when Carol Brady found a pack of cigarettes in Greg's jacket pocket and the entire episode revolved around if the parents believed Greg's lie when he stated that they weren't his? I do! I remember it effecting me pretty hard, always thinking, "I would NEVER smoke!" Yet, I was also watching 90210, Degrassi, Criminal Minds, Family Guy and many other shows that depicted a lot worse then smoking. Why and how are we (as the viewing audience) affected and changed by the media we watch, and how does addiction shown in entertainment media change our opinions? Does it change our opinions? This episode I got the opportunity to sit down and talk about this, and much more, with the incredibly funny, smart and positive Even Smith. Not only is he the co-host of Delta Sparks Pod along with @Andie.At.Electrical, but he is also a recovering addict. Even gives us a peak behind the certain and lets us in on a world that I am not enterally familiar with. Through his experiences and history with addiction and recovery, we take a closer look at how addiction and recovery are portrayed, analyzed and discussed in many different entertainment mediums. How is the show, "Mom" showing their AA meetings, and how are they making it recognizable and relatable to others who have gone through it? Why are we not surprised and shocked that Dr. Gregory House is addicted to pain killers while still being employed? Why is it easier to digest animated shows that are portraying addiction such as; American Dad, Archer, The Boondocks? Is it the responsibility of those who are making the shows, movies, music videos, documentaries to educate and inform the viewing audience? When does the line get crossed, when do we we say that it is too much? When will Tabloids and Magazines stop using a relapse as "Breaking News"? Differential Diagnosis - A House MD Podcast

Okay, we were wrong, turns out there's even more to the Stacey epilogue than we thought. Gregory House is dealing with even more existential pain and patient drama in Skin Deep, House MD Season 2 Episode 13 (no surprise there). What is slightly surprising, is this is one of the first episodes that we almost actively disliked for large parts of. This mostly comes down to the issue of a lazy patient story, which flips between controversial and shocking subjects (for the time at least), with nothing in particular to say about any of it. But it's sandwiched by a good bit of House drama, so it's worth it in the end. So if you want to hear 2 people go in circles about why a dramatically empty episode of House MD is empty of drama, then this is the Differential Diagnosis episode for you! As always, we hope you enjoy and of course if you want to let us know what you think, then why not drop us a message at @HouseMDCast and let us know what you think.

Amanda and Jenn discuss books set in Chicago, love-to-hate-them protagonists, magical realism, and more in this week’s episode of Get Booked. Follow the podcast via RSS, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Stitcher. Feedback Coyotes of Carthage by Steven Wright (rec’d by John) Parallel Lives: Five Victorian Marriages by Phyllis Rose (rec’d by Amanda) What is Not Yours Is Not Yours by Helen Oyeyemi and Italo Calvino’s If on a Winter’s Night a Traveler (rec’d by JB) Questions 1. I would love some recommendations for books set in Chicago. I used to live in the city and have been finding myself missing it lately. Since I won’t be able to travel there anytime soon (thanks, COVID), I’m hoping to read something that will allow me to visit without the actual travel. I usually prefer to read literary fiction, memoir, historical fiction, and narrative non-fiction, but I’m fairly open in terms of genre (would prefer not to venture too far into SFF though). The most important thing is that the books that are Chicago-centric and capture the essence of a particular place and/or time in the city. Books I’ve Already Read Set in Chicago: The Devil in the White City; The Time Traveler’s Wife; Native Son; Divergent; There Are No Children Here; The Warmth of Other Sons; The House on Mango Street; A Raisin in the Sun; Twenty Years at Hull House; Gang Leader for a Day; Never a City So Real; The Good Girl; Becoming; The Story of Jane Thanks, -Sarah 2. I have always been the “fall hard, fall fast” types in a relationship. Me and my boyfriend have been together for almost two years now and I have known since the first day that I was completely in love. He’s more of the “take things slow and enjoy the moment” kind of person. We live together and bought a house together last year. We are in a serious relationship and talk about our future as life-partners, but I can’t get over how much I want to get married. I don’t know what it is about this totally antiquated idea, but I think about it all the time. He used to say he wasn’t sure about getting married due to issues in a past relationship and his fear of getting hurt/loss, but over time we’ve moved into talking about marriage as “when we get married.” Even though he’s evolved, I know marriage is still far-off in the cards for him. I’m looking for recommendations, fiction or nonfiction, to help me be patient while waiting for him to get a place where he’s ready or one that shows me that the future I want is possible or even that partnerships don’t have to be defined by marriage. I’m not looking for anything to criticize my desire to be married (because yes, I know the yearning is ludicrous), but something to keep me hopeful about the future. I love most genres, especially mystery, thriller, literary fiction or the ill-named “chick-lit”. Other than Red, White and Royal Blue, I don’t love romance (though I’m tolerant which I know is really silly considering my question) and don’t love what I would consider “foofy” novels that are all rainbows and butterflies and irrational hope or cheeriness. I like serious plots, in-depth stories and am a sucker for a long book. Hope this isn’t too difficult considering all my caveats and that you don’t take too long, because I’m clearly impatient. (Lol, just kidding.) You guys are amazing and I’m so grateful for your podcast. -Maddison 3. I’m re-watching the TV show House, and Gregory House is one of my favourite characters ever. It got me thinking about how I’d love to read a character like him. An intelligent curmudgeon, sometimes you love him sometimes you hate him and can be humourous and charming. A sidekick like Wilson is a bonus. What books have a love to hate/hate to love protagonist? The character doesn’t need to be male. And please, no Poirot or Holmes. Literary fiction, mystery/thriller and light science fiction welcome. No fantasy please. Thank you and happy reading! -Michelle 4. Hello Ladies! Thank you for the podcast! I have found so many lovely books from listening to your recommendations. I was hoping you could help me with finding more memoirs to enjoy. I am not a big nonfiction reader generally, but have really found that memoirs (or essay collections on personal experiences?) really speak to me. Huge bonus if I can get it in audio, especially if it’s read by the author.  Some that I have read and loved (mostly recommended here or on All the Books) are Black Widow, The Clancys of Queens, You’ll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey, Solutions and Other Problems, Born a Crime, Who Thought This Was a Good Idea?, Educated, Maybe You Should Talk to Someone, A Man Without a Country, Marathon Woman, and Furiously Happy (which is truly what started this). I am a long-time listener, so show favorites and more recent recommendations are likely on my list. In writing this I’ve realized that my listing is pretty US-centric and mostly Black or White authors. I’m open to more of the same, but if you have any good recs from authors of other backgrounds/countries, that’d be very welcome too. I am not against graphic novels (I also read and was floored by John Lewis’ March), but I don’t think that’s what I’m looking for. I am also not generally super interested in celebrity memoirs, unless they’re something like Born a Crime which fully stands on its own. Thank you! -April 5. I need y’all’s help finding a lush, whimsical magical realism book. I loved Smoke by Dan Vyleta, The Minimalist by Jessie Burton and Things In Jars by Jess Kidd. I love luxurious, rich writing and am always drawn to the Gothic stories where a house, city, place are a character.  Full high fantasy can be a lot for me, but the fun magic/whimsy/spirits/etc just a touch outside of reality is what I love. I love the show – thanks so much for the help! -Alex 6. So I’ve just finished Reverb by Anna Zabo which Jenn recommended in the Handsell a couple of weeks ago. I devoured the first half of the book so fast—the characters’ chemistry and buildup is just so good—however for the latter part, I consciously took my time and savored each page. I was filled with dread while reading the last couple of pages, I just didn’t want to bid goodbye to these endearing characters. But all good things must come to an end, right? Now I don’t think I can ever find something within the genre that’s as good as this. Those were my running thoughts up until I tuned in to ep 269 today and realised that help is right in front of me, or in my ear or whatever. Just like what you did in the Handsell, I hope you can give me another unproblematic queer contemporary romance fiction that’s as good as Anna Zabo’s or better. Maybe one with loads of angst—the only thing Reverb kinda lacks.  Bibliotherapy helped (and still helping) me cope with the pandemic and our still ongoing lockdown. In the Mood for Chaos: A Riverdale Roasting and Recap Podcast

As if there wasn't already enough going on, the writers are trying to shove in a conflict between the North, and South Sides of Riverdale. I guess they can check 'class warfare' off of their hot-button-issue BINGO card now. Actual real-life serial killers that caused actual real-life grief, damage, and horror are now being referenced in this televised nightmare where intergenerational blood feuds are just as important as wondering what music to play at the school talent show. It's just as tactful as you would expect. Betty finds out she's got a secret admirer and goes about dealing with it in the Worst Way Possible, Jughead is into true crime (suddenly) which he flaunts as though it's weird and not a hugely popular genre, and while everyone seems to be at odds, at least they can all agree on one thing: Archie's video was unfathomably stupid. Evelyn voices one of her most-hated tropes, and sings us a lovely song about being confused. Miranda makes a weird analogy that has something to do with cacti and Dr. Gregory House, and also talks about - you guessed it - Shakespeare again. In a stunning turn of events, she also manages to finally, FINALLY, impart information upsetting enough that it makes Evelyn scream.   Screencaps & other fun stuff can be found on our Twitter: https://twitter.com/moodforchaospod    Content Warnings: - Animal abuse (brief mention, a dog is in danger but the dog is okay) - Gangs/gang violence - Guns/gun violence - Murder - Serial Killers  - Sexual abuse (brief mention)   Music: 'Imps' by Mark Revell

We'll get into all the academic things that make Dhiraj awesome, but I wanted to spend a moment to note the things that you won't know unless you had the opportunity to live with the guy for a year. Dhiraj is the guy who claims free chipotle guac and chips on LikeACoupon.com (they honestly have pretty good deals). He's also the guy that, and I quote: "enjoys the misanthropy of Gregory House, the brilliance of the New York Times, the addiction of sports, and the idealism of cinema." This man predates the statistics era in sports and can probably tell you Barry Bonds' Batting Average or Wilt Chamberlain's FT %. Is there anyone who has done more to illustrate the pathos, drama, and humanity surrounding medical diagnosis than Dr. Lisa Sanders? If you jokingly said, “Dr. Gregory House!” you've unwittingly acknowledged Sanders' deep influence (her work inspired the television show *House*). As a physician, Yale Medical School professor, author, *New York Times* magazine columnist, and host of her own Netflix documentary series, *Diagnosis,* Sanders wears many hats on multiple platforms. She was, in fact, in Boston to tape a TEDMED talk, when she walked over to our studio in the Seaport. No matter what form her stories take, they always involve empathy for the patient and a Sherlock Holmesian curiosity from the diagnostician. And in this conversation with our Jonathon Swersey she gets into all kinds of interesting topics: the limitations of today's genetic testing , how her storytelling has educated people about medical uncertainty, the role social media can play in diagnosing patients, and the complicated theatrics of the healthcare trade. Sanders says that diagnosis requires a good set of ears, a working heart, and a sharp imagination. “The best way to get people to talk to you is to be actually interested in what they have to say,” says Sanders. “And be able to demonstrate that by being quiet and listening to what they have to say.” Fortunately for us, Sanders was nowhere close to quiet in the conversation that follows. You'll want to listen to it. STAT. Host: Pete Chapin Editor: Kip Pilalas Producer: Ken Gordon

Gregory House has already insulted cancer kids, so let's move on to TB infected kids. In the fourth episode of season 2 of House MD, all around great guy Sebastian Charles is admitted to the hospital with suspiciously TB like symptoms. While House tries to take the diagnosis away from the TB angle while undermining Sebastian's charitable work at every opportunity, Cameron becomes tempted by the thought of joining Sebastian in Africa and possibly on a date. We'll take a look at all the storylines, the lacking diagnosis element of the episode and finally chat about the slow encroachment of the misery that awaits House in the seasons to come. Our Differential Diagnosis of House MD season 2 continues with our analysis of the second episode, Autopsy. Autopsy features Gregory House tackling the mysterious case of a 9 year old with terminal cancer, who has recently started hallucinating, but it's not connected to her original cancer diagnosis. In this darkly comic episode, we'll be discussing Gaz's theory on House contemplating his own suicide via the patient's optimistic outlook on life, and that very creepy kissing scene between Chase and the patient (who is a child). So as usual, let's crack out the whiteboard and begin our differential diagnosis of House MD! We'll be taking a look at how season one ends, how it sets up for season two and how it effortlessly pulls together the hanging plot threads that have been set up throughout the first season. Alisson Cameron (Jennifer Morrison) e Dr. Eric Foreman (Omar Epps). Tomorrowland opened to some negative reviews and other positive reviews. I think this is a great movie that has a message that needs to be heard. This week we look at the movie with no spoilers in 10-minutes or less.   Director: Brad Bird. He won Oscar's for Ratatouille and The Incredibles. Screenwriter: Brad Bird (The Incredibles, The Iron Giant) and Damon Lindelof (Star Trek Into Darkness, Lost (TV Show))   Plot Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank and optimistic teen scientist Casey embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.   Characters Frank Walker (George Clooney)  As a kid, Frank Walker encounters Tommorowland at the 1964 World's Fair. Walt debuted the “It's a Small World” attraction at the event and while riding on the happiest cruise that ever sailed, Walker is selected to venture into Tomorrowland by a special pin. (See Trailer Below) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhuuVhJrHRQ Somehow, Walker is returned to our world and become disillusioned about the future. When he encounters Casey Newton, he is thrust back into the fight for tomorrow. Walker is played by two-time Academy Award winning actor and director George Clooney. He is known for his roles as Danny Ocean in Ocean's 11 and Matt Kowalski in Gravity.   Casey Newton (Britt Robertson) As an inquisitive teen with a knack for fixing things, Casey Walker is obsessed with fixing the future. When she encounters a strange pin that takes her to another dimension, her curiosity is piqued. She sets out on a journey to find anyone and everyone who knows anything about the pin. View her featurette below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCfAjYBz3eA Newton is played by Britt Robertson. The 25-year-old actress is known for her roles as Aubrey Miller in The First Time and Cara in Dan in Real Life.     Athena (Raffey Cassidy) If you blinked, you'd probably miss Athena in the trailers. Aside from the featurette below, you probably wouldn't even know she exists. However, Athena is the reason Newton and Walker both encounter Tomorrowland. She apparently has a limited number of pins to give out and is looking for someone who can save the future. She is also well-trained in combat and will participate in action scenes, as seen below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSkF56CyYGE Athena is played by Raffey Cassidy. She played the young Snow White in Snow White and the Huntsman and Young Angelique in Dark Shadows.   David Nix (Hugh Laurie) While he is presented as a villain, my gut is telling me the David Nix character will be a little more complex than a standard villain. The Tomorrowland website describes him as an individual who prefers concrete science and data to dreamers. Nix is played by Hugh Laurie, who is known for roles as Mr. Frederick Little in Stuart Little and Dr. Gregory House on the television show “House M.D.”   Movie Clips  Glad you asked. Brad Bird has kept a tight lid on details for the movie, but little clips of the film have been released.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yp-qsp_oX0M   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9kmqchy8BE   Contact us: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DisneyMovieReview Twitter: @DSNYMovieReview Google+: https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/117568401234149523089/+Thedisneymoviereview/posts   Email: TheDisneyMovieReview@gmail.com

We Don't Do Social Media Very Well. Looking Ahead to Series 8. Shana calls Capaldi "The Thirteenth Doctor." A quote from Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS. The Eleventh Doctor Reboots the Universe. The Doctor is overbearing and creepy. "The Doctor Lies." The Doctor isn't Han Solo. The Dickishness of the Doctor. Comparing the Doctor and Gregory House. Shana mistakes "The Name of the Doctor" with "Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS." Liking much of the set design in "Journey." Learning more about the TARDIS. Sensawunda. Everybody knows women can't drive the TARDIS. Great to have an entire supporting cast made up of people of color, but boy are they problemmatic stereotypes. Overall a fluffy and cute episode. No quote for The Crimson Horror. Shana's process for looking for quotes. Steampunk and this weird leech puppet thing. A nearly all-female cast. Praise for Diana Rigg and Rachel Stirling. There's not really a big "What If" idea at the core of most of Series 7. Shana didn't like the character design of Mister Sweet. You Fail Biology Forever. A Pilot for a Paternoster Gang series. The Doctor's Hard Cock. A Man Kisses a Lesbian. An entertaining forty-five minutes of television. A lot of time in Victorian England. Why can't Jenny and Vastra be full-time companions? Interrupted by our pets. "...squeezed into a skirt that's just a little bit too tight." Neil Gaiman's responsibility for Nightmare in Silver. Eleven is an asshole. Shana forgets which episode we're talking about. Warwick Davis. The Gaiman-ness of the episode. The cybermites are effectively gross. The borgification of the Cybermen. The haplessness of the punishment platoon. Mister Clever. The Seventh Seal is the fucking Seventh Seal. Matt Smith should have played the Master. Big Finish in twenty years. Name of the Doctor solves the Mystery Girl Arc. Shana sings about Red Herrings. #shanashutthefuckup. What if it hadn't been approached as a mystery? Daniel name-drops The Web Planet. We like River Song in this episode. The conference call and the presence of the Paternoster Gang are basically wasted time. Moffat is the writer of no consequences. Talking about John Hurt. It Should Have Been Paul McGann. Daniel likes a lot of the stuff on Trenzalore. Taking a few minutes to philosophisize about why we do this podcast. "It's for kids," is a ridiculous defense of the silliness of recent Who. Cotton Candy Who. "New Earth" and the Omelas. Trying (and failing) to rank these four episodes. Next episode: the 50th anniversary special and the most recent Christmas special.  Email us at oispacemanpodcast@gmail.com Daniel's Twitter Tumblr Shana's Twitter Tumblr Also like us on Facebook!

This morning, as we get started in our 40 Days of Purpose spiritual growth experience, we're going to look at three of life's most important questions: 1) The question of existence, Why am I alive? 2) The question of significance, Does my life matter? and 3) The question of intention, What is my purpose? I realize these are pretty big questions. These aren't the kind of questions we're used to talking about with each other. But the truth is that it's not just philosophers who wonder about these questions. The most popular television show in the world is "House," and if you've ever watched it you know that these are exactly the kind of questions that get raised fairly frequently on the show. If you've never watched the show, Dr. Gregory House is a brilliant doctor, but an extremely difficult human being. In one episode called "One Day, One Room" House is having a conversation with his patient, a young woman named Eve; here's their exchange: House: "If you believe in eternity, then life is irrelevant, the same as a bug is irrelevant in comparison to the universe." Eve: "If you don't believe in eternity, then what you do here is irrelevant." House: "Your acts here are all that matters." Eve: "Then nothing matters. There's no ultimate consequences."
