What we should also be aware of is that God does exactly the same with us. Because of his intimate love for us, he has called us to him through his sovereign power, just like he called Saul. I was confirmed into the Anglican Church when I was twelve years of age.  I remember it was the first time I ever wore a tie in my life. Prior to that, every week I had to ride my bicycle to the church after school and do bible studies with other kids with the Minister in order to pass the test to be able to confirmed.  My parents were not religious at all, but I guess because Christianity is such a central component to our belief systems and literature, that they wanted me to get the basics. Years later I discovered Zig Ziglar, one of the most famous modern day sales trainers.  He was raised in the Deep South of America where bible studies is very big.  I have read his books and watched his videos.  I am fan.  I noticed he was an incredible communicator.  I also noticed that a lot of his sales stories where like the parables he would have read in his “red letter” bible, that is where the words attributed to Jesus are written in red.  Australians are not particularly religious like Americans are, but I did recognise the power of these parables in communication.  I don't mean the actual quotation of the parables themselves, but the storytelling structure. The parable structure always has a learning component wrapped up in the story being told.  Often in business, we want to achieve the same thing for our audience.  We might be giving a “persuade” speech rather than simple “inform” speech” or we may be calling for the audience to “take action” rather than just “entertain” them.  The parables are always from real life, rather than being a confection created for effect.  This makes it easy for us to identify with the story.  When I mentioned going through the confirmation process as a child, I am sure many readers went through a similar experience, including those who are from Hindu, Muslim or Buddhist religious belief systems.  Our real life stories make it easy to connect with our audience, because they can understand or emphasise with what we are saying. The parables are also very easy to understand.  The message is crystal clear.  Do this and things will be good.  Do that and things will be bad.  This simplicity is what makes the storytelling so effective.  Zig Ziglar was a master of telling his stories which each had a lesson there for us in sales to absorb.  They were from his experience or the experience of others from the real world, not from the “how it should be world”.  This is the danger when we become speakers.  We pontificate from on high, from way above the clouds, as if we were superhumans who never made a mistake or had a failure.  The ego has to be strong to tell a story against yourself.  We have grown up supersensitive to being criticised and so it is like kryptonite, we avoid it completely.  Criticising yourself sounds crazy, so we only talk about what a legend we are. Zig understood that audiences love a good redemption tale. Of course we like to hear how to do things so that they go well, that parable is always in fashion.  Interestingly though, we often feel distant from this model story of bravery, perseverance against the odds, intelligence, strength and wisdom.  We naturally aspire to those things, but they can feel like they are a million miles away from where we are at this moment.  Now failure, disaster, train wrecks all feel much closer to our reality and of course we want to avoid those.  Parable stories on what no to do are much more popular than the ones on what we should be doing. When things go pear shaped, don't miss the chance to take a note on that for a future talk.  The events may feel radioactive at the time, but get it down on the record, so that you can retell it when the pain has subsided.  Particularly include the characters involved, the extent of the damage and the depth of the heroics or stupidity involved.  Don't be limited to your own disasters.  Comb through the media and books for other people's disasters, which can then be trotted out as a parable for doom and gloom.   Storytelling master Zig Ziglar copied the parables, probably without even giving it a second thought, because it was so much a part of his cultural upbringings in Yazoo City, Mississippi.  As presenters we can find our own blue ribbon stories of triumph and catastrophe.  We can wrap these up in simple, true renditions of reality that our audience can identify with and easily recall.  The parables are well remembered for a reason – they work as a storytelling structure and we can adopt it for our own talks too.  In ten minutes, I bet you can come up with at least two or three good incidents that have parable like qualities, which can then be fleshed out into mini-stories of business good and evil for an audience.  Give it a try!

Reader: Bek Hudson Preacher: Jonathan Smith Today Pastor Jonathan is teaching on Philip's encounter with the Ethiopian eunuch and how he witnesses to this man and teaches him who Jesus is. Philip was just an ordinary person in the church - he wasn't an apostle or one of the leaders, but God used him to present the gospel to this Ehthiopian official. Was this coincidence that these two men met, or was it a divine appointment, orchestrated by God? Jonathan presents that it was a divine appointment. Anytime when we are challenged to present the gospel to someone, God has already started the process for the person to hear, so we need to adopt the attitude that something extraordinary will happen when we obey God and be both obedient and expectant. After all, the entire Book of Acts is about ordinary people doing extraordinary things by the power of the Holy Spirit, and these things did not stop in the first century. Red Door is an Anglican Church in Melbourne, Australia. We exist to be a community of people helping people make all of life all about Jesus.

Fr. Scott Wooten grew up firmly Anglican, but attended Catholic school. As he continued toward ordination as an Episcopal priest, he persisted in the belief that the Anglican, Orthodox, and Roman churches were all legitimate branches of the true Catholic Church, so he didn't feel that there was ever any need for him to become a “Roman” Catholic; he considered his form of Anglicanism to be legitimately “Catholic." Eventually moral questions in the Episcopal church forced him to decide whether to stay Episcopalian or join the Anglican Church of North America. Pondering this question about the ultimate character of Christian authority, Fr. Wooten finally felt fully convicted to become Catholic, being received and eventually ordained a Catholic priest through the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter.

Today Mark begins teaching in the first chapter of Isaiah. The first word of this titanic of a book is "vision." Isaiah is seeing something that goes beyond the normal activity of seeing. You and I are looking at the world around us, but seeing God's perspective on the world is a whole deeper level. We're talking about the difference between looking and seeing. The book of Isaiah is a revelation. This book is not an act of Isaiah's own self-discovery. This book is a vision. And it's built off of that. So, when you are reading Isaiah, you're reading the revealed word of the living God as He understands the world and His promises to humanity. >>Watch on YouTubeDr. Mark Gignilliat is professor of divinity at Beeson Divinity School, where he teaches courses in Old Testament and Hebrew. Mark also serves as theologian in residence at St. Peter's Anglican Church in Birmingham. Dr. Gignilliat is married to Naomi, and they have four children.

This Sunday we will meet Simon the Sorcerer, a man who had previously amazed the people with his magic and claimed to be someone great. We'll see that the gospel brings transformation - not just belief, but a change of heart - and that the power of God cannot be bought, but only received by grace. Red Door is an Anglican Church in Melbourne, Australia. We exist to be a community of people helping people make all of life all about Jesus.

Could Supreme Court overturn homosexual marriage ruling?; Answers in Genesis’ new Truth Traveler attractions, Anglican Church of Nigeria horrified by lesbian bishop in Wales

It's Thursday, August 14th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Indonesian Christian leaders urge government to protect religious liberty Religious leaders in Indonesia are calling on the government there to protect religious freedom. This comes after a string of attacks on Christian buildings in the Southeast Asian country.  The Conference of Indonesian Catholic Bishops said, “Any act of intimidation, violence, or unilateral restriction of religious activities violates the law and undermines the fundamental values of life together as citizens of the same nation.” Indonesia is not currently on the Open Doors' World Watch List of the most difficult countries to be a Christian. However, it has appeared on that list in previous years. Anglican Church of Nigeria horrified by lesbian bishop in Wales The Anglican Church of Nigeria cut ties with the Anglican Church of Wales over its election of an openly lesbian archbishop named Cherry Vann who is in a sexual relationship with Wendy Diamond. Rev. Henry Ndukuba leads the Anglican Church in Nigeria. He said, “The Church of Nigeria believes that this moment calls for prayer for the Church of Wales, hoping that the Church of England will not follow in her steps. We should hold them in our prayers with a clear message that hope lies only in true repentance and godliness.” To its credit, The Anglican Church of Nigeria previously severed ties with the Episcopal Church in the United States over a similar situation.  2 Timothy 4:3-4 warns, “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” British pro-lifer targeted a third time for praying outside abortion mill Police in the United Kingdom are investigating a woman for praying outside an abortion mill. It's the third time police have gone after Isabel Vaughan-Spruce, Director of the March for Life UK, over her silent prayers. West Midlands Police previously arrested her twice. Vaughan-Spruce won a settlement over the wrongful arrests worth about $17,500. However, officials continue to target her. Jeremiah Igunnubole, legal counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom International, said, “We will continue to robustly challenge this unjust censorship, and support Isabel's right to think and believe freely.” Could Supreme Court overturn homosexual marriage ruling? In the United States, Liberty Counsel recently asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review the case of a Christian county clerk. Kim Davis, the former Rowan County, Kentucky clerk, refused to issue marriage licenses to homosexual couples. She was the first victim to be jailed and sued following the infamous 2015 Obergefell ruling. The Supreme Court ruling legalized faux same-sex marriage nationwide. Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said, “Kim Davis' case underscores why the U.S. Supreme Court should overturn the wrongly decided Obergefell v. Hodges opinion because it threatens the religious liberty of Americans who believe that marriage is a sacred union between one man and one woman.” U.S. debt hits $37 trillion The U.S. national debt hit $37 trillion for the first time, according to a Tuesday report from the Treasury Department. The national debt is projected to reach 99% of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product this year which is the measure of the total economic activity within a country. The Peter G. Peterson Foundation noted that the debt amounts to $280,000 per household in America and is growing at over five billion dollars per day. Fewer Americans drink alcohol A survey from Gallup found that the percentage of Americans who use alcoholic beverages fell to a record low of 54 percent. Young adults are even less likely to drink alcohol at 50 percent.  And for the first time, over 50 percent of U.S. adults say drinking one or two alcoholic drinks a day is bad for one's health. That number is up from 28 percent in 2015. Young adults are even more likely to say drinking is bad for their health at 66 percent. Gallup noted, “Declines in alcohol consumption do not appear to be caused by people shifting to other mood-altering substances.” Answers in Genesis announces Truth Traveler attractions in Pigeon Forge & Branson And finally, Answers in Genesis is opening two new Bible attractions, one in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and the other in Branson, Missouri.  The Truth Traveler attractions feature a 5D experience that blends cutting-edge virtual reality, motion seating, and sensory effects to transport you through pivotal moments in Biblical history. The website says, “Feel the ground shake as the floodwaters rise, stand in awe at the towering walls of Babel, and witness history unfold in breathtaking detail.” Ken Ham, the CEO of Answers in Genesis, said, “Please pray with us that these attractions will reach thousands of families with the message of the truth of God's Word and the Gospel.” Psalm 111:2, 4 says, “Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them. … He has caused His wondrous works to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and merciful.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, August 14th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Follow us on X or subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music, or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com). Superman is the biggest blockbuster of the summer, and yes, there's a little wokie-ness throughout. But, the real issue is the worldview tug-of-war between polytheism and raw humanist-existentialism. Kansas dad and Krypton dad are arguing it out, but really, they're both wrong. Discerning these major motion pictures requires pretty highly-calibrated worldview glasses and an ear for the internal contradictions. But would a 14-year-old kid discern it, or just meld right into it? This program includes: 1. Tonight, we'll read from Elements of Arithmetic, written by Augustus De Morgan and first published in 1846. De Morgan was a pioneering British mathematician and logician, remembered not only for his clear explanations but also for his sharp wit. He introduced the world to what we now call De Morgan's Laws in logic, and was the first to formally define and use the term “mathematical induction.” Because he was a Unitarian and refused to subscribe to the Thirty-Nine Articles of the Anglican Church, he was denied a fellowship at Oxford and Cambridge. This principled stance however did not hinder his influence: he went on to become the first professor of mathematics at the newly founded University College London. His legacy is honored not only in mathematics but on the Moon itself, where a crater bears his name. Elements of Arithmetic was one of his most widely read works, offering both beginners and more advanced students a foundation in the science of numbers. Arithmetic — the study of numbers, their properties, and their relationships — forms the bedrock of mathematics, bridging the practical art of calculation with the deeper theories that underpin algebra and number theory. — read by 'N' — Sign up for Snoozecast+ to get expanded, ad-free access by going to snoozecast.com/plus! Jakes has been sanctioned by the court for using artificial intelligence in the preparation of court documents. Warren: The attorney is Tyrone Blackburn, and he was defending Duane Youngblood in a defamation lawsuit filed by TD Jakes. Blackburn has been sanctioned by a federal court because he presented documents that contained material fabricated by artificial intelligence. U.S. District Court Judge William Stickman ordered Blackburn to pay over $76-thousand in fees to cover expenses Jakes had to pay to defend himself against the “AI-generated hallucinations and other misrepresentations in Defendant's motion to dismiss briefing.” Christina: Last year, Duane Youngblood accused Jakes of attempted sexual assault. Jakes has maintained his innocence and filed a defamation lawsuit against Youngblood in November 2024. Jakes noted that Youngblood is on parole after felony convictions for sexual assault and corruption of minors. Warren: According to a statement provided to Dallas Morning News, Blackburn said he purchased an A-I program because he doesn't employ paralegals and most of his current clients are pro bono. The A-I program generated its own legal prompts and motions, and contained false quotes and case law. Before he could fix the A-I generated errors, Youngblood asked him to leave the case. Christina: But the judge essentially told him that wasn't an excuse—that he was fully responsible for the accuracy of his legal briefs, regardless of who—or what—contributed to it. It was Blackburn's signature on the document. Warren: Right.
