Join me as I chat to Suse Bentley, life coach for Gen X women about radical disruption of the status quo when it comes to menopause education.  The lack of education around menopause (especially in the work place) is a sexist and an ageist problem which needs prizing open and talking about.   We chat about a plethora of other things like, symptoms, surrendering to HRT, the power of having a great GP and doing your own research when it comes to menopause education… and of course we dive into my favourite topic entrepreneurship at peri menopause.  Suse has a curious mind which has lead her down all sorts of alleyways including film, poetry and social justice.  I hope you'll be inspired as I much as I was.  Book Recommendations: The Change Before the Change: Everything You Need to Know to Stay Healthy in the Decade Before Menopause, Dr. Laura Corio and Linda Khan (2005).Menopause: All you need to know in one concise manual (Haynes Concise Manuals), Dr Louise Newson (2019).Find Your Thing: How to discover what you do best, own it and get known for it, Lucy Whittington (2015).Why We Can't Sleep: Women's New Midlife Crisis, Ada Calhoun (2020)Invisible Women: Data Bias in a world Designed For Men, Caroline Criado Perez (2019)Link to Suse https://www.susanbbentley.com Twitter:  https://twitter.com/susebb Sally's Links[Free] Relaxation Hypnosis Recording:  https://bit.ly/relaxationwithsally [Free] How to Make Sleep Your Super Power https://www.sallygarozzo.com/optinsleepwebinar [Free] Sleep Hypnosis Recording: https://bit.ly/sleephypnosisrecording How to Create Phenomenal Self Esteem [£47]:  https://www.sallygarozzo.com/selfesteem Rapid Transformational Therapy [£447]: https://www.sallygarozzo.com/rtt Menopause Solution Sessions [£147]: https://www.sallygarozzo.com/mentoring The Sleep Super Power Academy [£497] https://www.sallygarozzo.com/sleep Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/sallygarozzomindmentor Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/sallygarozzomindmentor Be a Podcast Guest:  https://singingandhypnosis.as.me/podcastinterview

Lucy's a marketer by trade, but likes to get stuck into sales and business strategy, too. With more than 25 years of experience (15 of those running her own consultancy), her experience spans start-ups to plcs. Her MBA and business book habit means she's never just thinking about marketing on its own. With a background in both software and small business, Lucy loves getting stuck into Marketing strategy with a wider approach of how this is going to help a business work better and grow. She can't code but has spent a lot of her working life surrounded by people who can, and her experience in software marketing includes being part of the original Xero launch team in the UK. She remembers when Google was in beta and also when software came in boxes (as she had to write the words that went on the outside of them!). More recently, she's been co-founder of two tech start-ups, and has worked on feasibility studies, marketing audits and go-to-market plans for other tech businesses.

She is the co-founder of the Small Business Finance School, is the author of two books, and now is the co-founder of Statzy, a mobile app that brings key social media, marketing, sales, and accounting stats together in one place from all of the business apps and software you are already using. Thanks for the inspiration! In this episode we discuss: her thoughts on leadership: “Leadership is about being a thought leader. It’s being yourself, being clear about your values and what you believe in, and people choosing to follow you.” how she used to view manager and leader as the same thing and how her views have shifted over time. how she was able to flip her mental script and hire people who were attracted to her message and wanted to work for her. her biggest challenge of gaining self-confidence and learning to trust herself. how she handles networking with curiosity as she continues to grow. her method for attending conferences and networking events by aiming to “be the speaker” and meet as many people as possible. You want to have a greater impact and increased income. The problem is that there are so many options for how to build your business that you can feel stuck, overwhelmed, and like you're running out of time. The reason options are overwhelming is that you're looking at them as a series of disconnected steps when -- to make the most of your time -- you need a strategy that connects only the most important and highest impact ones. Why? Because you know it's true that if you try to do everything, you will accomplish nothing. Which means, to achieve your goal, you have to invest in a strategy to put time on your side. How? This program will help you find the clarity to determine what is the right next step for your business. A book? A podcast? An online course? Masterminds? Speaking on bigger stages? 5 surprising things we learned about business success

In this bonus episode we depart from our normal format and share the highlights from our recent virtual conference On The Tipping Point LIVE! where we talked to 13 extraordinary female entrepreneurs to discover their stories of getting past the tipping point in business. There was SO much helpful advice and experience shared that it’s impossible to get it all into one episode, so here we reflect on five of the most consistent messages we heard from our speakers about building success in business.  We hope you find them helpful too! IN THE SHOW … We start with a few moments discussion to put our own thinking into context, in particular looking at what makes these five messages relevant to both of us.  (1.27 – 6.20) 1 - Being You – be more you than you have ever given yourself permission to be before. This popped up in everyone’s interview in some way, and the specific examples that stand out for us are in the following interviews (6.20 – 9.20): Lucy Whittington: how to recognise your ‘thing’ in business and the difference between running ‘a’ business and running ‘your’ business. Susan Payton: owning your story and being who you really are in your business. Alison Jones: choosing to lead, being more of who you are and being ‘unapologetically you’. 2 - Stepping Up – the continual expansion of your comfort zone through being prepared to lean in to your fear and take action regardless. So many examples of this one! Here are some of the key stories that stood out for us (9.20 – 22.30): Alison Jones: the moment she discovered no-one gives us permission to lead in our business – we have to make the decision to step up. Cara Sayer: being prepared to make mistakes and learning from what doesn’t go to plan. Lottie Moore: celebrating what we want to replicate in business, no matter how small the win. Also remembering that everyone’s ‘Everest’ is a different height. Sarah Arrow: choosing between a rock and a hard place. Lindsey Fish: never settling – being willing to fail in order to learn how to succeed. Bryony Thomas: anything of long term value has a component of struggle. 3 - Taking Action – the importance of making opportunities happen, not wait for them to come to you. Here we also reflect on the many wonderful discussions during the conference about what we can learn from nature – from cultivating potatoes to building fire! Our key stories for taking action are (22.30 – 34.35): Lindsey Fish: being persistent and consistent in the face of adversity and not giving up. Kat Dever: the years of work that go into being an overnight success, and the importance of building our business in the right Nicola Huelin: what we can learn from planting and cultivating potatoes, and the learning that comes from a burning platform. Sarah Arrow:  how she tripled her income by showing up consistently in her business. Vee Smith and Veronica Pullen: taking action when perhaps you feel stuck, and how to move forward from a place where you can imagine all your emotional and material needs are already met. 4 - Masterminding – the importance of challenge and support, in growing both yourself and the business – and the business benefits of gathering high quality, collective wisdom and new perspectives.  This was or had been a key factor for all of our speakers – and the key stories for the benefits of masterminding are (34.36 – 45.35 ): Suzanne Dibble: the personal value gained through investing in business mastermind groups – the shared journey between like minded people. Kat Dever: holding the vision for each other with the highest intention 5 - Personal and Business Investment – investing in ourselves, valuing and celebrating who we are, and investing in our personal growth. Here the key stories are (45.36 – 54.00): Suzanne Dibble/Kat Dever: making our choices out of hope (or investing in our faith) not our fear Lottie Moore: investing time and money in the same place in our business We conclude with a personal learning or two, and we share the details of our On The Tipping Point Mastermind Group – launching in January 2018! In the UK, nearly half of those joining accountancy are women. However at accountancy firms, women make up 23% of all partners, according to Catalyst, although 49% of all accounting employees. As you might expect, there is a “falling off” among women aged between 30 and 40 (although that is only partly explained by motherhood according to Rhonda Martin, head of ICAEW’s Women in Leadership team). Lucy Whittington is a UK-based author and 'Manager of Business Celebrities'; she helps people 'find their thing' and get famous for it. In this interview with Trevor Young, Lucy skewers the personal branding concepts of 'unique selling propositions' and 'finding your niche', preferring that people instead focus on finding their 'thing' - what they're brilliant at - that innate talent that sets them apart from everyone else. And for many people, this is not as easy as it sounds! Lucy also walks us through her five-stage process of becoming a business celebrity: Find your thing, have a 'fame name', interesting stories sell, nothing is impossible and get in your spotlight.
