The Genetics of Metabolism and Weight Loss for Women Over 40

Genetics of metabolism are not static. You do have a uniqueness to the way you burn calories from food and metabolize carbs, fat, proteins. Weight loss for women over 40 can be suddenly tricky. Today we're going to discuss the importance of genetics of metabolism so that, you don't just have to look at what is, but that you can change the expression of your genetics and optimize your habits for your optimal health.   If you've wondered, why can't I…. or why does it work for her and not me… then close your other distractions and tune in.  First, this Before I introduce my guest on this episode, I want to bring up something integral in many of the guest experts I have on this podcast.  Think for a moment about the physicians and care providers you've had over the course of your adult life.  When you had a health concern or issue, and by the way I include weight loss resistance under health concerns. Though sometimes it's treated with an “eat less, exercise more” advice, we know enough over the last decade I hope I've shed light on the fact, that you can 1) think you're doing the right thing, 2) truly be doing the right thing and still have no one actually look at your genetics, your hormone levels, the integration of that together with your dietary or exercise needs.  I believe there are different ways experts become experts. 1) they've been through what you're going through 2) they've helped thousands of others with a method that consistently gets results or 3) and this is gold… they can say both.   A young or experienced male physician, a young female physician (or exercise expert for that matter) who's not yet had the life experience simply has a gap. It's not impossible, but that combination of having been there together with the method is gold.  And that.. is where we're going today, the genetics of metabolism, yours.  My Guest:   Dr. Rajka Milanovic Galbraith has been successfully leading families to optimal health for over 2 decades as a board-certified Family Medicine doctor, from delivering babies to managing family care in the clinic and hospital. She is now exclusively a leading Functional Medicine Consultant certified by the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM).  She is an international speaker, facilitator and mentor to practitioners and has trained dozens of practitioners 1:1, via her online mentorship and more recently as a mentor for IFM. Dr. Rajka's patients travel from around the world due to her renown expertise in autoimmune disease, autism, nutrigenetics and methylation, digestive disorders, cognitive decline, mold toxicity, and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy because of her incredible track record. For over 2 decades Dr. Rajka has helped women lose weight. She has perfected the SHE reset that has enabled 100's of women to shed that stubborn weight for good. Having overcome 2 autoimmune diseases along with stubborn perimenopausal weight gain, gives her firsthand knowledge and empathy for the challenges that her  clients face. When I was growing up, my parents both agreed on one thing. You can't be friends with a man because sex will always get in the way. So, the only thing I could base love on was physical attraction. You hoped that the man you were attracted to was attracted to you too. And if he was, maybe just maybe it would lead to happily ever after. With age - and a few hard knocks - Suzette has gotten wiser. And it is that wisdom that she brings to whether physical attraction or friendship is more important in a relationship. If after listening to this episode, you wish to reach out to Suzette, here are some ways:Email: suzette.vearnon@suzettesolutions.comWebsite: suzettesolutions.com/contact-usCalendar: calendly.com/suzettevearnonWant to join her Facebook Group? Sometimes it feels like there is a never-ending cycle of tragedy, disaster and divisiveness in the world.  Now more than ever kindness, compassion and empathy are needed.  Instead, it seems like conflict, name-calling and resentment are the norm. Is there even hope for the centuries-old saying “Love Thy Neighbor”? For people of faith, of course, it's not just a saying or an ideal, but something we are instructed to do. And yet, many say that it's never seemed more difficult. So, who exactly are our “neighbors”? Is it just those in close proximity or does that mean everybody everywhere? Also, do we actually have to love them or is it okay to simply tolerate them? We decided to revisit one of our very first episodes to explore what it really means to love our neighbors and why it ultimately benefits us as well. For more info on IMAGINE YOURSELF and Lanee Blaise and Sandy Kovach or to contact us,  visit imagineyourselfpodcast.comJoin the conversation  on our  FACEBOOK, TWITTER or INSTAGRAM pagesHow to help those affected by Hurricane Ian

You have thoughts, feelings, and activities, people who deposit money into your account, and thoughts, feelings, and people that withdraw and overdraw your account.   In this episode, I will talk about activities that may help you gain energy and what drains your energy so you can start balancing your "energy account." I also talk about the energy drain that comes from drinking and hangovers in midlife and how I plan for low-energy days.  Thank you for listening! Peace. Married to a vascular surgeon can be overwhelming because Maya learns about the chronic diseases that her husbands' patients live with. Her goal as a wellness educator is to help empower others to advocate for their own health. She has a deep interest in raising awareness about health disparities and racism in healthcare that can keep patients from taking control of their own health. She also wants to inform all people about the benefits of lifestyle medicine which allows people to make lifestyle modifications that can help prevent, halt, and in some cases reverse disease. At the age of 35, Maya felt like she was in her 50's. At the time, she had extreme fatigue, always felt exhausted, and didn't have the energy to exercise. A few years later, she would be diagnosed as hypothyroid and blood work would reveal that she had mercury poisoning. She changed her diet and lifestyle. Do you know that showing up for yourself is a key ingredient in your midlife reinvention secret sauce?Ever notice that paying more attention to your own needs in midlife (aka showing up for yourself) can contribute to deeper happiness and satisfaction? When was the last time you showed up for yourself - and made space for your dreams and desires to be a priority, not a "someday" activity?Showing up for ourselves is at once important and empowering, and often hard to do. The drumbeat of others' needs can drown out our own if we let them. But the benefits of showing up for ourselves shouldn't be downplayed. In fact, they should be celebrated. When we show up for ourselves and lean into our needs, we acknowledge that we matter.Getting the reinvention process going - that process of stepping into our own and becoming a Reinvention Rebel - starts with us identifying what we want. It means turning the lens to focus on ourselves.I'm excited to kick off season 4 with this solo episode that shines a light on why showing up for ourselves is so important. It's about why you should add showing up for yourself to your reinvention sauce. In this solo episode I share:✳️ What I learned about myself this summer when it comes to showing up ✳️ Why showing up for ourselves is so important✳️ 3 questions for you to noodle on about showing up for yourself and how you can get startedAnd lots of other cool insights. Think of it as a grown-up post-summer book report.

Episode 217  Midlife has come a long way!  In 2022, women in midlife and beyond are stepping into themselves and honoring their choices to live the life they desire.  Gone are the stories of yesteryear that say, “you can't do that; you're too old!”  Midlife women are starting businesses, leaving relationships that don't serve them.  Getting older is an opportunity to shake things up and add a little disruption to your life, as my guest, Star Monroe, will help you do. What You'll Hear Star talks about the status quo in midlife and how we can disrupt it. She also shares how she overcame an addiction to cocaine, severe body hate, and abusive relationships. Star talks about why abstinence from alcohol is not for her and how she has taught herself, and I quote, "not to be an alcoholic," by observing her drinking and learning from her triggers. Additionally, Star shares what inspired her to go back to school and train as a psychotherapist and advises ladies who want to align with their authentic selves. About Star Star Monroe is a leader in the midlife and menopause field with a wealth of experience working closely with women for over 32 years.  Star has dedicated much of her life to studying human behavior and is a certified psychotherapist, eating psychology coach, relationship coach, sex, love & dating coach, somatic bodyworker, dominatrix, and retired showgirl. Star has also navigated her own dark night of the soul, overcoming cocaine addiction, severe body hate, abusive relationships, and bankruptcy. Link with more info on Jump Start https://www.menopotmeltdown.com/jumpstartNew month new goals. I love September for goal setting. After the summer where I lack any real structure, I actually look forward to creating more of a structured routine. So what's needed? Well, you need A plan! One that is simple that you can put into action right away so this won't be just another month where things get added onto your already existing pile. One way to set realistic goals is to embrace the chaos that life throws your way, or simply accepting the fact that you can't control everything. It's never going to be the perfect time to start something and it's never going to go perfectly as planned. From there, it's easier to focus on what's important for you and work towards achievable goals. For example, if you want to lose weight, don't focus on depriving yourself of all your favorite foods. Instead, try incorporating more protein into your everyday routine until it becomes second nature. If you're trying to tone up, don't focus on how many days a week you will exercise with a crazy cardio routine that's going to have you spending hours in the gym. Instead, think what are the most effective exercises in the least amount I can do that will yield the most results?Link with more info on Jump Start https://www.menopotmeltdown.com/jumpstartFree Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/kathykatalyst/?ref=shareTo contact me: https://bit.ly/kathykatalystWe are currently accepting clients! To apply for one on one coaching:https://www.menopotmeltdown.com/booknowFollow me on    YouTube   Instagram   Facebook TikTokcheck out my blogs at https://katalystfitness.net

When we're in the middle of a challenging or difficult time, sometimes it seems like the worst part is all the uncertainty. We tell ourselves it would be easier to get through if we just knew how the situation would turn out or even how long we'd be going through it. Why can't it be like finding out  what happens to our favorite character in the season finale of a Netflix binge?... at least at some point soon we'll have our answer.  Of course, reality is much different.  We're trying to look through life's murky waters without knowing when (or if) they will clear. It is that struggle we explore in this bonus mini-episode. If we are people of faith, we can simply say trusting God is the way through. However, sometimes even as we say, “God is in control; I give it to Him,” inside we're still just as bound up with anxiety. Episode 214  I've talked about why I quit drinking several times throughout episodes over the years, but I've never recorded one episode where my WHY lives.  I'm dedicating this episode to folks - women and men in the middle of life and beyond who are pondering sobriety. For some of you, it may be something you are hyper-focused on, like I was for a couple of years, and for others, it may be a curiosity.  If you are experiencing decision fatigue on whether or not to quit drinking or take a break from alcohol, this episode may help you gain a different perspective on going alcohol-free later in life and ease some of your worries about "I won't be able to drink...forever." We are in this together. I'm super pumped you're here!  To read this episode's full show notes, click here.  To join The Alcohol-Free Habit Fall session "get excited list," click here.

EP 56: Um…Do you ever feel like your midlife “check engine” light is on? Your VJ, all its parts & your libido are in need of a tune up? Do you experience pain or discomfort during sex? Do you dread it? Are you an empty nester with more free time for pleasure (lol), but perimenopause or menopause is making it difficult? Your spouse thinks maybe you should take up pole dancing and you just want to crawl into bed with your ugly pj's on? Do you feel you can't reach the same satisfaction you did before midlife? Don't give up!  Join me, Dr. Sarah Milken, in an open and honest conversation called, “Under The Midlife Hood.” My guest, Dr. Jill Krapf, is a Board-Certified OB/GYN who specializes in female sexual pain, including vulvodynia, overactive pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and vulvar lichen sclerosus. We discuss understanding vaginal pain and learning that it does not have to become our new normal. Jill teaches us not to settle for less when it comes to comfort and pleasure in midlife sexual and vaginal health. Jill also explains the importance of knowing our bodies, doing our research on vaginal products and finding a specialist if your needs are not met by your regular gynecologist. There are vulvar specialists just like her, if you can't make it to Washington D.C.  Midlife is a time where we should focus on our health & happiness…and that includes in the bedroom! Use it or lose it baby! Some Highlights:  How to decrease pain & increase pleasure Pain & discomfort are not your new normal The importance of knowing your body inside & out Picking products carefully Do not “just deal with it” in midlife Help is out there, try a specialist! Looking forward to connecting with you! Here are some ways to connect with me!
