Too old, too young, not good enough, too good for this- we have many such notions but thankfully people are talking about these limiting beliefs and we are seeing inspiring stories of people doing things in their own time at their own pace. I have one such inspiring woman's story for you. Namrata Lodha launched Myaraa hats at the age of 52. It was her first venture and this entrepreneurship journey started in a living room. The idea was to (re)introduce the concept of hats as an accessory but with a unique design element in it.Inspired by the natural grass fiber baskets from her childhood home in Madhya Pradesh, Namrata designs these accessories with the same material. This production empowers rural women whose families abandoned them for marrying outside their community or being a widow. The company makes work accessible in rural India for these women making sure that when you buy a sunny hat it comes bundled with the social and financial empowerment of a woman. This is a story of breaking norms and also of family support and giving back to society. Listen in to get inspired and share it with your friends.Connect with Myaraa Hats- https://www.instagram.com/myaraaindia/ Episode Webpage- https://littlefixescollective.com/176/Use my special link https://zencastr.com/?via=maitri to save 30% off your first month of any Zencastr paid plan.Support the Podcast- https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maitrivermaConnect with @littlefixespodcast on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/littlefixespodcast/ Email me- littlefixespodcast@gmail.comDisclaimer- This podcast is only for educational and entertainment purposes. Although entering the world of social media in her fifties has been a challenge, it has allowed Julie the creative space to speak her truths for the first time in her life. Her mantra, 'Do things that scare you!'Liza of @hi_ho_silver_liza started an Instagram account documenting her transition to gray and in the process met a digital community of women called the Silver Sisters who she shares, "filled her journey with love, laughter, support, and friendship." At the start of lockdown, she decided to grow out her natural hair color which coincided with the London agency that represented her as a model closing their doors. This new chapter offered an opportunity to buy land next to her home and open the animal sanctuary she had always dreamt about. She is now the loving guardian to six beautiful sheep, two rescue dogs from Bosnia and Greece, and three rescue cats! After three years of growing her natural hues, the opportunity to return to her 25-year modeling career presented itself, this time as a silver-haired, 51-year-old changing the narrative about aging and beauty. Liza says she is first and foremost a mama to two incredible human beings and has been happily married for 30 years. In this episode, Nada sits down with Julie and Liza to discuss their experiences with going silver and with social media. Both did not start their Instagram accounts with the intention of becoming content creators; however, by being present and speaking their truths, their platforms grew. Julie outlines that the first step to conquering social media is having fun and engaging with your followers. Liza combats the falsehood that you should dye your hair, “because you are worth it.” She shares that by allowing her silver hair to grow, found confidence in herself in the new beautiful chapter that is midlife. If you want a good read, we have lots of recommendations this week! JJ Elliott is an advertising copywriter with a degree in English from UCLA. She lost her mother to suicide as a teenager and spent over two years volunteering on the suicide hotlines in LA. One of the reasons she wanted to write this book is because she finds herself increasingly frustrated by the way suicide is treated in print and on-screen, as a mystery to be solved rather than a multi-layered, complex mental health situation that can rarely be boiled down to one specific "reason."A native of Northern California, JJ now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, two teenage kids, and two poorly trained bulldogs. She loves to read, drink wine, play tennis, and eat cheese. There Are No Rules For This is her first novel. In this episode, Nada sits down with JJ to discuss her newly published book. After ten years of crafting the story, JJ decided not to go with a traditional publisher and shares why that was an important decision in telling this very personal story. She helps us understand a hybrid publishing model and explains the benefits of choosing that path. JJ advises aspiring writers to join a writing community and to reach out to authors they admire. She reminds us that writing is a solo venture that requires us to have others who understand the process and what we are going through.Head to JJ's website to grab her book, There Are No Rules For This.
