Why do women still feel they must have 100% of the qualifications to apply for a position when men apply for these same positions with only 60%? What does ambition mean today for women and how has that evolved with the workforce over time? Is the framing of success and ambition throughout childhood different for young men and women? At Women Talk Tech we've been thinking a lot about the idea of ambition, and we want to hear from you! That's why we have launched the Women Talk Tech Ambition Survey, to understand how ambition, what we know of it, and the biases it entails, factors into the progression of women in the workforce. In tech companies, usually the last people to get hired are HR and Marketing, and usually the first to be fired are HR and Marketing. That's the mentality that brought Marie Wiese to build her agency Marketing CoPilot and write her book, You Can't Be Everywhere. Marketing CoPilot helps B2B companies define and improve their marketing ROI so that they become an indispensable part of the team. Having served as a VP of sales and marketing for a software company, Marie realized how difficult it was for CEOs to make decisions regarding their marketing services. She wanted to bring all of the various parts together in order to create a simple, repeatable process in hiring marketing professionals. So she set out to create a methodology that would show people how they could be where they needed to be. To lead them to where their customers are, what kind of content they were looking for, and when was the right time to engage them.

Marie Wiese is the President of Marketing CoPilot (a digital marketing agency), the award winning author of a book for digital marketers called "You Can't Be Everywhere", and host of The Common Sense Marketer podcast. She also has an extensive background in sales and marketing leadership in the financial services and financial technology sectors. In this interview, we tackle many of the key issues facing women at work today, paying particular attention to the technology sector. There's no denying we still have a long way to go to change the working environment, pay equity issues and harassment issues that surround this particular industry, seemingly more than others. Marie is a passionate advocate for finding ways to encourage more women in tech as the stats, particularly in Canada, are shocking and reflect a decline in women pursuing computer science careers. Couple that with exponential growth in artificial intelligence innovation, and it isn't hard to see the problems that arise from having a non-diverse programming/design workforce. We also touch on lifestyle issues for women who are the primary breadwinner in their families, and what Marie learned when she unexpectedly had to take 6 months away from her business to look after a sick family member. The Happiness of Pursuit Podcast - Episode #79 How To Write Your Own Success Story with Marie Wiese, Founder of Marketing CoPilot I knew this podcast episode was going to be great... A Canadian, Content Marketer, Best Selling Author and Entrepreneur - that's a recipe for a perfect guest and Marie Wiese didn't disappoint! In this episode of The Happiness of Pursuit Podcast, Marie Wiese talks about her entrepreneurial journey and how she was able to literally write her own success story. After being gifted a typwriter when she was a little girl by her grandmother, that gift for storytelling, led to a career in PR. That career quickly led down an entrepreneurial path with a startup, which, like many other dot com businesses in the mid 2000's, unfortunately, led to a financial collapse. Marie bounced back and started consulting. After reflecting on how she helped the business grow to 100+ employees and raised over $25 million in funding, she knew she could repeat that process. Years later, Marie continues to run Marketing CoPilot and "help companies build digital marketing programs that make a difference. We deliver strategic guidance and tactical execution so companies can jump-start their digital marketing efforts to be more engaging, customer-centric and competitive." What you will learn in this episode of The Happiness of Pursuit Podcast: >>How to overcome fear >>The importance of asking for help >>What Marie's next book will be about >>The value of storytelling To connect with Marie and get the books we talked about visit www.douglasjfoley.com/79

Marie is a fascinating figure in marketing, blending the "old" with the new. But the truth is, there's not a huge difference between the old and the new. Marie is an extremely clarifying figure in the marketing world, especially if you're just coming into the online scene.
