In this episode I welcome on...Sarah Goff who is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker + Holistic Therapist and has been in the field of mental health for 10 years! Sarah offers so much knowledge on how to ask for help, build awareness around your emotions, and taking the necessary steps to find the most resonant therapist for you. Throughout the episode we both shed light on experiences with “therapists” who may abuse their power and end up traumatizing our experience with opening up and sharing our Truth. Through forgiveness, recognizing our triggers as teachers, and cultivating awareness around our ego we can relearn that vulnerability IS our superpower and story telling is the true medicine. The matters of the mind consist of conceptual experiences that teach us how to be more aware of our surroundings. Because this journey is so self reflective, instead of exercise's this series is is on the thought processes, the way to allow your mind to marinate on certain ideas and goals, handling stresses, and passing around the positivity. We also delve into the curious mind. When is it ok to take the risk and not let the fear of rejection take hold? Sit back, get ready to think about the concepts discussed and reflect :) --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/evelyn-kish/message
Ep #48 Matters of the Mind: Healing Arts with The Brain in Mind - Karyn Lynn Grant & Dr. Jon Skidmore, PHD and Dr. Dean Belnap, PHD In this combined interview, Karyn ask pertinent questions about "Matters of the Mind" of Dr. Jon Skidmore, PHD who is a Clinical Psychologist and fulltime Performance Coach. In this episode, Dr. Skidmore shares how we can regulate and manage the ways our brains are triggered. He shares how children learn about pleasure and pain. He also shares how the amygdala in the brain stores pain and trauma and how we can release trauma with the aid of the healing arts of music, aromatherapy and massage in collaboration with scientific clinical techniques. Karyn also shares a portion of her interview with the late Dr. W. Dean Belnap, Psychiatrist, who partnered in writing the book "A Brain Gone Wrong". Dr. Belnap was one of Karyn's greatest inspirations in her creation process of "The Healer's Touch Method" which combines music, massage and aromatherapy for rewriting memories stored in the mind-brain. Dr. George Graham is former Professor of Philosophy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Georgia State University, and the AC Reid Professor of Philosophy at Wake Forest University. They are both authors of a recent book, Hearing Voices and Other Matters of the Mind: What Mental Abnormalities Can Teach Us About Religions. In this episode, we focus on their book. We start by covering some of the concepts that they explore in the book, like ecumenical naturalism and purpose-driven continuity theory. We talk about the continuity between religious cognition, normal cognition and mental disorders, and what happens when mental disorders manifest in a religious context. We also discuss mental disorders more generally, and ask if they are illnesses, and if they are cultural. We tackle the issue of by-product, adaptation, and cultural group selection approaches to religion. We then go through the mental disorders covered in the book. We start with a condition that is also experienced by normal people: hallucinatory voices. We then talk about depression, Obsessive-compulsive disorder, and autism. Finally, we discuss if we really need to study people's beliefs to understand religious phenomena, and end with how the framework laid-out in the book can be applied to studying terrorism, and in a clinical context. -- A HUGE THANK YOU TO MY PATRONS/SUPPORTERS: KARIN LIETZCKE, ANN BLANCHETTE, PER HELGE LARSEN, LAU GUERREIRO, JERRY MULLER, HANS FREDRIK SUNDE, BERNARDO SEIXAS, HERBERT GINTIS, RUTGER VOS, RICARDO VLADIMIRO, BO WINEGARD, CRAIG HEALY, OLAF ALEX, PHILIP KURIAN, JONATHAN VISSER, ANJAN KATTA, JAKOB KLINKBY, ADAM KESSEL, MATTHEW WHITINGBIRD, ARNAUD WOLFF, TIM HOLLOSY, HENRIK AHLENIUS, JOHN CONNORS, PAULINA BARREN, FILIP FORS CONNOLLY, DAN DEMETRIOU, ROBERT WINDHAGER, RUI INACIO, ARTHUR KOH, ZOOP, MARCO NEVES, MAX BEILBY, COLIN HOLBROOK, SUSAN PINKER, THOMAS TRUMBLE, PABLO SANTURBANO, SIMON COLUMBUS, PHIL KAVANAGH, JORGE ESPINHA, CORY CLARK, MARK BLYTH, ROBERTO INGUANZO, MIKKEL STORMYR, ERIC NEURMANN, SAMUEL ANDREEFF, FRANCIS FORDE, TIAGO NUNES, BERNARD HUGUENEY, ALEXANDER DANNBAUER, OMARI HICKSON, PHYLICIA STEVENS, FERGAL CUSSEN, YEVHEN BODRENKO, HAL HERZOG, NUNO MACHADO, DON ROSS, JOÃO ALVES DA SILVA, JONATHAN LEIBRANT, JOÃO LINHARES, OZLEM BULUT, NATHAN NGUYEN, STANTON T, SAMUEL CORREA, ERIK HAINES, MARK SMITH, J.W., JOÃO EIRA, TOM HUMMEL, SARDUS FRANCE, DAVID SLOAN WILSON, YACILA DEZA-ARAUJO, IDAN SOLON, ROMAIN ROCH, DMITRY GRIGORYEV, DIEGO LONDOÑO CORREA, TOM ROTH, AND YANICK PUNTER! Harambe memes aside, two teens trapped inside a gorilla enclosure is never a good beginning to a mission. With mystics and portals at their disposal however, The New Wave has little to worry about. Adaptaur, Shikari, and The Magician need to find Mind Meld sooner rather than later, and with a zoo full of creatures and an unknown amount of minions it’s a race against the clock before disaster falls.
