The 2017 season is already in full swing for Vancouver Whitecaps. While most teams played their first competitive match in this weekend’s MLS openers, the ‘Caps now have three under their belt, with two in the space of four days thanks to their CONCACAF Champions League heroics. We look back at what we learned and what we can realistically take from the 2-0 win over New York Red Bulls in the CCL and the 0-0 draw with Philadelphia Union in MLS. Has the defence finally shored up? Is the two man defensive shield killing attacking play? What’s the best position for Kekuta Manneh and Erik Hurtado? And what are we likely to see from the team in the weeks to come? We talk about all this and more in our first postgame show of the season. We also chat with the newest member of the Whitecaps, but a well known returning face, Mauro Rosales. What tempted the veteran Argentine back to Vancouver? Is coaching in his long term plans? What’s his thoughts on the team this season and especially Alphonso Davies? Plus B.A. Robertson features in this week’s ‘Wavelength’ feature. This is a podcast of our first live show on CiTR radio (and our fifth on the station altogether). As such it’s a little chaotic at times as we worked out which buttons to push!! We also ran out of time to put more in, but it’ll get a lot smoother, so have a listen, enjoy, and ‘Mon the ‘Caps. We tried twice to record a review of the D.C. United versus the Colorado Rapids game, and twice we were stymied by (different!) technological reasons. So we decided to pass on trying a third time to talk about that game, and moved onto the future! We invited Ben Lyon from Big D Soccer onto the podcast to help us preview this weekend's game against FC Dallas. We asked other Ben about what is happening with FC Dallas right now and all of the missing defenders that the team will have due to international callups. We also ask him about Max Urruti and Mauro Rosales, before getting into the state of Dallas' homegrown players. Finally, we ask him to gameplan Dallas for Ben Olsen. Its a good (half) of a show, so give it a listen!

Canada's current crop of talent got the latest round of their World Cup qualification quest off to the perfect start with a 1-0 win over Honduras in Vancouver on Friday night. There is no resting for Vancouver Whitecaps. No resting on their laurels and no resting on the training pitch with a bye week ahead this long weekend. Four wins, nine points in MLS, a first ever Canadian Championship and looking to be in a good position in Champions League qualifying. All in all, not bad going! But the 'Caps were back on the training pitch Thursday eager to get back into action and in this special interview episode you'll hear from Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson, defender Jordan Harvey and midfielder Mauro Rosales as we talk the loss to the Dynamo, the month of September, squad depth, squad rotation and much more! Vancouver Whitecaps have packed their bags and hit the road for six weeks, but fear not, the AFTN podcast will keep you close to the guys. In Episode 114 of "There's Still Time" we look back at the win over RSL and ahead to the Montreal Impact and the five game road stretch ahead, with audio from coaches Carl Robinson and Jeff Cassar. Will this finally be the game that sees Gershon Koffie become more consistent? Will Octavio Rivero get the big money move he seeks if he can't finish one on one chances? And just how much better and key can David Ousted get? The front four seems pretty set now (squad rotation aside) and it looks to be a South American affair. We chat with one of them, Argentine midfielder Mauro Rosales about his and the Caps' season so far, his injuries and does he prefer the number 10 role? Away from MLS action, the tightly clad ball girls Marianne and Gabby brought us the draw for the CONCACAF Champions League and the Caps will face old foes and new in Seattle Sounders and DC Olimpia. We hear from Whitecaps Club President Bobby Lenarduzzi about drawing the Sounders, travelling to Honduras and more. And there's still time to hear from Carl Robinson about the Caps' plans for the July transfer window with a busy end of year awaiting the team. Have a listen!

Two home matches for Whitecaps fans to look forward to this weekend for the first time since the new USL side came into being. A busy weekend, a packed weekend and AFTN has you covered with it all. It's a battle of West v East at BC Place on Saturday evening when DC United come to Vancouver. We take a look ahead to the game, the key players and what line-up we might see the 'Caps going with. Will DC attack or defend? How can you leave Darren Mattocks out? Will the wee winger Cristian Techera be on from the start? We get the thoughts of Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson and hear from Vancouver players Russell Teibert, Pedro Morales and Mauro Rosales, along with DC United defender Taylor Kemp. With Vancouver's defensive spine being a key component to their early season success, we have an indepth chat with one of the main factors behind that, Argentine defensive midfielder Matias Laba, about him finally being a fully fledged Whitecaps, the season so far and what lies ahead. Our popular "Teammates" section returns and we bring you our first WFC2 one, with Residency alumni and Canadian international, Jackson Farmer. It's that time again. Snow is on the ground, you can justify being covered in glitter to your wife without her suspecting you've been at the strippers, and fat people feel that they're festively plump. And that can only mean one thing - it's the start of AFTN's end of season roundtables. Episode 88 reunites your usual co-hosts Michael McColl and Steve Pandher, AFTN writer Jay Duke (briefly), and Curva Collective's Zachary Meisenheimer and Steven Lamothe, to discuss the first two months of 2014 from primarily a Vancouver Whitecaps perspective. Surprising no-one, we kick off in January and look back on the Camilo saga, Robbo's management team, the SuperDraft, the additions of players like Steven Beitashour and the USL PRO partnership with Charleston Battery. Away from the 'Caps we also look at the CSA's strategic plan and the possible bid for the 2026 World Cup. Training camp opened and the Caps made a couple of preseason trips in February, first to Arizona and then on to Cascadian rivals Portland Timbers. Playerwise, Nigel Reo-Coker, Omar Salgado, Andre Lewis and Matias Laba got tongues wagging for various reasons. And there's still time to look at the breaking news of the week, the excellent re-signing of Mauro Rosales and hear from the man himself. Have a listen!

Episode 80 of "There's Still Time", the AFTN Soccer podcast, looks back at a very busy, and at times disappointing, week in Whitecapsland. There was the good - the signing of tow homegrown players. The bad - the failure to convince New Westminster to be the home for the Caps' USL Pro team. And the ugly - Vancouver head to Portland this weekend to face Will Johnson and co. We bring you all the chatter from training this week in another raw audio heavy episode. We hear from those homegrown signings, Marco Bustos and Kianz Froese about their new MLS deals and we get the thoughts of Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson on the pair. Those were the only two signings announced on Monday before the MLS roster freeze and Whitecaps President Bobby Lenarduzzi tells us why and talks about the USL Pro situation, the season run-in and more. Keeping with the young theme we hear from Christian Dean about his first MLS start in last week's game against Dallas and from the guy that scored Vancouver's goal down there, and who everyone hopes is going to go on another streak, Erik Hurtado. Turning attention to back to the remainder of the MLS season, we hear from Robinson and some of the players about being in a full playoff mindset already and how each of these remaining six games is already basically a playoff game if Vancouver want to reach the postseason once again. Robinson also looks ahead to this weekend's big Cascadia Cup clash in Portland and we hear from some of the players - goalkeeper David Ousted, centreback Andy O'Brien and midfielders Matias Laba, Mauro Rosales and Russell Teibert. A busy show for a busy week!
