To begin, they dive into the latest out of the Whitecaps, who picked up a big 3-0 win vs. FC Dallas in the first game of their first-round best-of-three series at BC Place. Otherwise, in Whitecaps news, the latest MLS salaries dropped this week, giving an idea of how their roster is looking after some big summer transfers. While this news doesn't affect the team much until the offseason, it gives an idea of what's to come for the Whitecaps after these playoffs - showing why this run is so important for this team, with the group set to be shaken up a bit. Lastly, the Vancouver Rise are getting set for their inaugural Northern Super League playoff journey, as they'll battle with the Ottawa Rapid in the two-legged semi-finals, as they try to book a trip to Toronto for the final - starting next Tuesday at Swangard Stadium for Leg 1. Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat about all things Vancouver Whitecaps as they get set for the 2025 MLS Cup playoffs. To begin, they dive into the latest out of the Whitecaps, who fell 2-1 to FC Dallas in the final game of the MLS regular season - fitting, as not only did that defeat deny the Whitecaps the chance to top the Western Conference table and finish second in all of MLS, but it also set them up with a date vs. Dallas in the first round of the playoffs, too. Because of that, they take a look at the threat that Dallas poses to the Whitecaps in this first-round series, a matchup that the Whitecaps are expected to win - something that doesn't always mean a whole lot in MLS, it's worth noting. Of course, in this playoff format, things are different than your typical playoff battle, with this first round being a best-of-three matchup, before the games shift to single elimination later down the road. Will the Whitecaps be healthy enough to make a deep run in the playoffs? Will they be able to score in the big games? Who starts for them at the back? Can they take advantage of their status as an MLS Cup favourite?Alex and Sam try to answer those questions, and more, to cap off this preview - before finishing with a quick look at the rest of the MLS Cup playoffs field, for good measure.

The Whitecaps roll on, lifting their fourth-straight Voyageurs Cup and controlling their own fate in the race to be best in the MLS West. We chat about the 'Caps wins over Vancouver FC and San Jose Earthquakes and what the season run-in looks for the team and those around them. Plus we look at the celebratory night for BC Soccer that was the Canadian Championship final and ponder what next year's tournament might look like in a crowded footballing schedule. For the 'Caps a big boost to their postseason aspirations is having captain Ryan Gauld back on the pitch. We catch up with the talismanic Scot for an in-depth interview to talk about his return from injury, what the last few months have been like on the sidelines, the success of the team this season and what may be to come, impending fatherhood, and a little bit on the Scottish national team in a week of key World Cup qualifiers for them. The 2026 FIFA World Cup is less than nine months away and as the excitement builds, so does the annoyance when it comes to ticket prices and availability. We look at what it will cost to go to a game in Vancouver, what we've learned from the initial batch of tickets going on sale, and whether the real fans will be priced out. Plus we talk kick off times. Is Vancouver set for a slate of afternoon matches to save people baking elsewhere? Music-wise, Kneecap kick off their residency as our Album of the Month, we've Britpop songs from The Bluetones and Northern Uproar, and My Brother Woody return to Wavelength with a song about the 1994 World Cup and the clash between Ireland's John Aldridge and the man in the yellow hat. We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, and Canadian Championship chat and interviews. The Whitecaps may be down to the bare bones in terms of squad selection, especially on the defensive side, but that didn't stop them claiming an 8th Cascadia Cup following draws with Portland and Seattle. We pick over the bones of those two matches, look at the lie of the land for the race to be the best in the MLS West, and have a chat with Whitecaps centre back Mark O'Neill about signing his first MLS deal, his footballing journey, and coming from a three-code footballing family. We chat with Marty about the final, whether this cup run will help him lose the interim tag, what fans can expect from the team, the players to watch, and Whitecaps memories. It's also a final that will pit brother against brother and we chat with both the Whitecaps Ralph Priso and his brother Huge Mbongue at VFC about what will be a very emotional night for the pair, and get 'Caps coach Jesper Sorensen's thoughts on the match-up. For the Glory KC is back with the 147th episode of the show! The KC Current are the headliners this week, and probably should be each week, because they had themselves a marvelous weekend! After the Washington Spirit dropped points to Angel City FC on Thursday night, that opened the door for the Kansas City Current to lift the shield on Saturday night. All they had to do was win.And of course they did! They defeated the Seattle Reign 2-0, lifted the NWSL Shield as the best record in the league, with five games remaining. It's the fastest ever shield win in league history, breaking the previous record set by the 2014 Seattle Reign. But that Reign team ultimately didn't win the NWSL Championship. They lost the final to FC Kansas City, coached by Vlatko Andonovski. Sheena and I work through all the emotions and moments from the night and how the KC Current can't let that happen to them. Across town, things were much worse for Sporting Kansas City. They lost, yet again, this time to the Vancouver Whitecaps. And it was a depleted Whitecaps side who were missing most of their stars. It didn't matter as SKC fell behind just over a minute into the game and never recovered. Then again, they did play some kids and try some different things for next year. So, I supposed we sort of got what we were asking for last week. But losing sucks. And St. Louis City won, so Sporting KC are closer to the Wooden Spoon (for the worst record in MLS) than anything else and now behind their cross-state rivals. On one night, the KC Current proclaim themselves one of the best teams in the world and Sporting KC get eliminated from playoff contention. What a weird night for Kansas City soccer. In the Digital Crawl, we hit on a few more topics, including:Messi extends contract with Inter Miami and will retire in MLSUS Open Cup and Canadian Championship finals setHere is a rundown of topics and start times:Premier League Morning Live! - 1:11KC Current win the Shield! - 11:35Sporting KC may have quit - 45:10Digital Crawl - 1:11:45Upcoming GamesKC Current vs. Chicago Stars - Fri. We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, Canadian Championship, and Canadian Premier League football chat and interviews. The Whitecaps sent a message to the rest of MLS with a 7-0 thumping of the Supporters Shield leading Philadelphia Union on Saturday. We delve into the many highs from that one and look at how it leaves the MLS run-in with just weeks of the regular season remaining. There were a lot of great moments from that big win, but one of the best was the first MLS goal for Whitecaps Homegrown Rayan Elloumi on his home debut. We talk with Rayan about signing his MLS deal, that goal, his family's reaction, and what he needs to work on now that he's moved up a level. Turning our attention to the Canadian Championship, we look ahead to the Whitecaps-Forge semi-final second leg and hear from both head coaches, while Thomas Müller talks about what cup football means to him. We also chat with Whitecaps centreback Belal Halbouni about the club's and his own season so far and the semi-final, and we have an in-depth interview with Forge's talismanic midfielder Tristan Borges about the game, Forge's season, the club's success in the CPL, and his own footballing journey. Plus we talk about the weak sanctions imposed on Inter Miami by MLS after their Leagues Cup disgrace and we talk about the latest BC derby in the CPL after the first game played in downtown Victoria. And music-wise, Hazel O'Connor continues her residency as our Album of the Month, we've Britpop songs from Smaller and Cast, and a German band features in Wavelength.
