We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, Canadian Premier League, and Canadian Championship chat and we're joined this episode by AFTN writer Felipe Vallejo. Football brings highs and lows and if you're a Whitecaps fan, you've had some pretty wild swings of those in the past week as the team scraped by CPL side Valour FC in the Canadian Championship, lost heavily in MLS to Colorado Rapids, then bounced back in style and started to look a little bit like their old selves in a big win at Houston Dynamo four days later. We delve into the talking points coming out of those three matches and happenings off the pitch, as Pedro Vite gets transferred to Mexico and a new Peruvian is coming to town. Are the 'Caps set up for the season run-in? What are the expectations now? And what help is still needed? Plus there's still time to look at the upcoming Canadian Championship semi-finals and the tough task facing the Whitecaps, we cast our eyes over the first half of the 2025 CPL season, and talk about the FIFA Club World Cup final. All of this and music-wise, Frank Black continues his residency as our Album of the Month, we've Britpop songs from Longpigs and Heavy Stereo, and My Brother Woody return in Wavelength. Here's the rundown for the main segments from the episode: 01.27: Intro - Vancouver Rise, Club World Cup 10.47: Whitecaps results rollercoaster in full swing in Colorado and Houston 40.00: Whitecaps San Diego preview and the lie of the land in MLS West 56.18: Milkshake Man - Emmanuel Sabbi 58.46: Whitecaps transfer comings and goings 75.25: Canadian Championship semis set 93.30: CPL midseason review 111.00: Wavelength - My Brother Woody - The A to Z of Football
Ben, Dunlop and Alex are back on NFP this week for a transfer-heavy episode as Canadians move around Europe in the buildup to the 2025-26 season. The show starts with a look at Olivia Smith's one-million-pound transfer to Arsenal, and further dives into what's next for Luc De Fougerolles, Tajon Buchanan and more. They also look at why Canadians aren't moving to the English Championship like USMNT stars. The show wraps with some MLS talk and where the Vancouver Whitecaps can go once they sell Pedro Vite to Pumas. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Hello Colorado Rapids fans. This week on Holding The High Line, we have so much to talk about. Rabbi has some work commitments so Red is joined by Keith Richards with Team NBS Media and Spencer Baldwin (Burgundy Wave's intern). This three-man midfield cooks. The trio banters about the USMNT getting a friendly at DICK's against Australia on October 14. We discuss that Jackson Travis red card against LAFC and how it ruined the game (and the 4-4-2 diamond game plan). We move on to the joy that was the win over Vancouver Whitecaps. Djordje and the Goal Scorers sounds like a fun band name. The whole team played well. Forgot to say this on the pod, but don't think the ball was over the line on that 11th minute chance. The guests share what they hope to see from the retro 30th anniversary third kit. We discuss who should take the next penalty the Rapids win. Matt celebrates Reggie Cannon rightfully getting the bag from Boavista. Keith has updates on Rapids 2. Spencer has thoughts on Kévin Cabral's imminent future given he wasn't at the Meet the Team Party . . . Then we look ahead to Seattle Sounders. Oh and Matt forgot to make the following joke: Cole Palmer has spent more time talking to Donald Trump than Cole Bassett has spent talking to Stan Kroenke.
In hour two, Jason Brough and guest host Jamie Dodd discuss the best rivalries in sports, and why one of them is the NHL Draft vs. entertainment (3:00), plus the boys chat with Vancouver Whitecaps manager Jesper Sorensen (22:00) about the club's recent struggles, following such a hot start to the season. This podcast is produced by Andy Cole and Greg Balloch. The Colorado Rapids lose 3-0 to LAFC at BMO Stadium. The Rapids remain winless vs LAFC in LA. They'll quickly bounce back with a game this Saturday vs the Vancouver Whitecaps. But Connor Cape has the call of this game from Los Angeles.
➡️ LSU wants to slap jersey patches on football uniforms - are we headed for NASCAR-level sponsorship in college sports? ➡️ Kentucky's kicker gets roasted with a 0 toughness rating in College Football 26. ➡️ Mike finally watched Jerry Maguire (welcome to 1996, buddy). ➡️ Sip, Chug, Drainpour returns with Snow Bunnies, Redheads, and PAWGs. ➡️ LA Galaxy's July 4th fireworks got delayed…because the Vancouver Whitecaps wouldn't stop running sprints. ➡️ USMNT loses the Gold Cup final to Mexico, and we feel bad for Diogo Jota's heartbreak. ➡️ Jake Paul beats Chavez Jr., gets ranked by the WBA, Butterbean calls him out, and Chavez gets deported. Seriously. ➡️ Orel Hershiser still mad about the Astros cheating. ➡️ Another athlete (Luis Ortiz) suspended for gambling. ➡️ California says Daily Fantasy is illegal betting. DraftKings basically laughs in their face. ➡️ Plus: Joey Chestnut dominates again, fast food prices are out of control, and Suge Knight claims they smoked Tupac's ashes. Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Vancouver Whitecaps, Vancouver FC, Pacific FC, League 1 BC and more. To begin, they dive into the latest out of the Whitecaps, who continued an up-and-down period, one that's seen them lose three of their last four matches, including a 5-3 defeat to San Diego FC and a 3-0 loss to the LA Galaxy. Despite that, they remain in a decent spot in the Supporters Shield race, with things looking up for them after they welcomed back a couple of key regulars who spent a lengthy period away with their respective National Teams during the Gold Cup. Now, some important games await, with none more crucial than the second leg of their Canadian Championship quarter-final tie against Valour FC, as they seek to defend their status as three-time consecutive winners. Meanwhile, in CPL, Pacific FC and Vancouver FC continue to struggle, and they examine why this is the case as they look to recover from a tough start to their seasons with the midway point approaching. Lastly, Alex and Sam look back at their recent outing to a League 1 BC match, as they got to witness some exciting action between the TSS Rovers and Altitude's women's and men's team, which they'll hope is a precursor to an exciting end to that campaign. We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, FIFA Club World Cup, CONCACAF Gold Cup, and Canadian national team chat and interviews, in what has very much been a week of highs and lows. It was an eventful week in Whitecapsland, both on and off the pitch. A defeat to a highly clinical San Diego side saw them lose first place in the MLS Western Conference, but they bounced back in style with an important win at their old nemesis LAFC. We delve into the main talking points coming out of both matches, look at what caught our eye with the latest salary releases, and talk about the 'Caps' All-Star selections. Our feature interview this episode is with the man that's guided the Whitecaps to their best ever start to a season, Danish head coach Jesper Sorensen. We chat about all of that and settling into life in Vancouver in our extensive and exclusive interview. We also delve into Canada's shock defeat to Guatemala at the Gold Cup and what lessons need to be learned from it. We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, FIFA Club World Cup, CONCACAF Gold Cup, and Canadian national team chat and interviews. Canada is flying high at the 2025 Gold Cup, at least on the pitch with wins over Honduras and Curacao. Off it, head coach Jesse Marsch has been ruffling CONCACAF feathers and was under investigation over incidents in Vancouver last week. We delve into the two victories, the standout performers, and the drama off the pitch. The FIFA Club World Cup is coming to the end of its group stage, and while the much maligned tournament has drawn a lot of criticism, the footballing fare on offer has been first class and very entertaining. We look at the tournament so far and see what lessons could and should be learned ahead of hosting next year's actual World Cup here in North America. The Whitecaps have had much needed and well-deserved time off after a crazy first half of their season. They're going to be back on the pitch on Wednesday to take on San Diego in what is now a battle of the top two teams in the MLS West. Who saw that coming when we saw the schedule?! We look ahead to that match up and discuss the first half of the 'Caps season with head coach Jesper Sorensen, captain Ranko Veselinovic, and forward Emmanuel Sabbi. We look back at the main talking points coming out of the match, including the continued absences of key players and the blooding of a couple of homegrowns. The match marked the midway point of the 'Caps' MLS regular season and we delve into the fantastic first half of what is shaping up to be a momentous year for the table toppers. It's an exciting time for football in Vancouver and the one year countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup has now begun. The Seattle Sounders turned easily their most disappointing performance of the season. What makes it sting even worse is that expectations were quite high for their game against the Vancouver Whitecaps, who were missing more than half their starters and were coming off a nearly team-wide bout of “gastrointestinal symptoms.” The Sounders responded by looking flat and almost uninterested at times.Jeremiah and Aaron dig into that performance before power-ranking the five teams they each think have the best shots at winning the Club World Cup.Sponsors

We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, Canadian Premier League, Northern Super League, and national team chat and interviews. What a week it's been in Whitecapsland. Eventful doesn't even do it justice, as the team returned from a heavy cup final loss only to be hit by gastrointestinal illness that left Sunday's derby game with Seattle Sounders in doubt. In the end it was played and despite everything the 'Caps came away with a stunning 3-0 win over their Cascadian rivals. We look back at the match, the build up, and the fallout. Turning our attention to the national teams, we look back at Canada's win over Ukraine in the Canadian Shield as they prepare for the Gold Cup, the Canadian women's U20s qualifying for the World Cup, and our feature interview is with the Vancouverite and Vancouver Rise player who scored her first goal for the senior team this week, Holly Ward. We chat with Holly about her fantastic year to date for both club and country and what's to come. All of this plus we look around the lie of the land in the CPL and the recent resignation of Commissioner Mark Noonan, and music-wise, a solo Pete Shelley continues his residency as our Album of the Month, we've a Britpop song from Powder, and an old Scottish World Cup song in Wavelength. It was an interesting week surrounding the Sounders, giving Jeremiah and Niko plenty to talk about. First off, they give some updates on the players' protest and some of the reasoning behind why they believe MLS should be giving them a bigger cut of the Club World Cup prize pool. They also discuss the Vancouver Whitecaps' situation, which has put at least some doubt into whether or not Sunday's game will happen.Follow Niko Moreno on BlueSky and YouTube.Sponsor

We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, CONCACAF Champions Cup, Major League Soccer, Canadian Premier League, and national team chat and interviews. Vancouver Whitecaps' trip to Mexico City was not a happy one. A heavy 5-0 loss to Cruz Azul in the Champions Cup final saw the 'Caps outclassed and look a shadow of the team that got them to that point. A tough one to take, but it shouldn't fully be allowed to cloud what was a fantastic and galvanising cup run and the season so far. The worry is that there could be some lasting psychological damage in the coming weeks and we hear from head coach Jesper Sorensen about lifting the team up after this and getting back to winning ways. We also look at Michael's experience in CDMX both at the match and in the city, plus the breaking news that the 'Caps didn't come home with a trophy, but they did come home with gastrointestinal illness. We look at what went down, what it means for the game against Seattle at the weekend, and hear from Whitecaps CEO Axel Schuster. We've also got four interviews to bring you this episode as we turn our attention to the international game. With Canada preparing for the Gold Cup later this month, we chat with the man who is, for us, the current number one goalkeeper for the national team, Minnesota United's Dayne St Clair and talk with head coach Jesse Marsch about the development pathway in Canada and the role of League1. Nine Whitecaps are off to represent their country this international window. We talk with one of them, Giuseppe Bovalina, who is off to play for Australia's U23 side, about his move to Vancouver, life in MLS, what he misses about back home, and playing with the Olyroos.
