Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Vancouver Whitecaps, Vancouver Rise, Vancouver FC, Pacific FC and more. To begin, they dive into the latest out of the Whitecaps, who have continued to roll along in MLS play. Now, though, with their lengthy homestand now over, the rubber will hit the road for the Whitecaps, who have already begun the hefty road trip that awaits them on the schedule - a byproduct of BC Place hosting World Cup games. They got the road trip off to a decent start, drawing the LA Galaxy 1-1, a result they'll live with after winning their last four home games, but they'll look to get back to winning ways as they get set for a pivotal top-of-the-table clash against the San Jose Earthquakes (and then a couple of tough away games in Texas). Amid all of the happenings on the pitch, however, there's been a lot happening off it, as the future of the club continues to remain a big talking point within Vancouver and across MLS. After all of the latest updates, Alex and Sam dive into what they make of this whole situation, as the 'Save the Caps' movement starts to really take hold among Vancouver supporters - and the rest of MLS, as a whole. Lastly, they finish the show with a round-up of local soccer talking points, including the Vancouver Rise's slow start, Vancouver FC's improved play, Pacific FC's struggles and the start of the 2026 Canadian Championship. For the Glory KC is back with the 147th episode of the show! The KC Current are the headliners this week, and probably should be each week, because they had themselves a marvelous weekend! After the Washington Spirit dropped points to Angel City FC on Thursday night, that opened the door for the Kansas City Current to lift the shield on Saturday night. All they had to do was win.And of course they did! They defeated the Seattle Reign 2-0, lifted the NWSL Shield as the best record in the league, with five games remaining. It's the fastest ever shield win in league history, breaking the previous record set by the 2014 Seattle Reign. But that Reign team ultimately didn't win the NWSL Championship. They lost the final to FC Kansas City, coached by Vlatko Andonovski. Sheena and I work through all the emotions and moments from the night and how the KC Current can't let that happen to them. Across town, things were much worse for Sporting Kansas City. They lost, yet again, this time to the Vancouver Whitecaps. And it was a depleted Whitecaps side who were missing most of their stars. It didn't matter as SKC fell behind just over a minute into the game and never recovered. Then again, they did play some kids and try some different things for next year. So, I supposed we sort of got what we were asking for last week. But losing sucks. And St. Louis City won, so Sporting KC are closer to the Wooden Spoon (for the worst record in MLS) than anything else and now behind their cross-state rivals. On one night, the KC Current proclaim themselves one of the best teams in the world and Sporting KC get eliminated from playoff contention. What a weird night for Kansas City soccer. In the Digital Crawl, we hit on a few more topics, including:Messi extends contract with Inter Miami and will retire in MLSUS Open Cup and Canadian Championship finals setHere is a rundown of topics and start times:Premier League Morning Live! - 1:11KC Current win the Shield! - 11:35Sporting KC may have quit - 45:10Digital Crawl - 1:11:45Upcoming GamesKC Current vs. Chicago Stars - Fri. We also look ahead to this week's Canadian Championship semi-finals, hear from Vancouver and Forge's coaches, and Whitecaps CEO Axel Schuster talks about more additions coming in this MLS transfer window, this time on the defensive side. We delve into the talking points coming out of those three matches and happenings off the pitch, as Pedro Vite gets transferred to Mexico and a new Peruvian is coming to town. Are the 'Caps set up for the season run-in? What are the expectations now? And what help is still needed? How to Climb the Mountain to Owner Handled Success Antoinelle Vulpis joins host Laura Reeves to discuss how she climbed to the pinnacle of owner handled success, winning Best in Show at Montgomery Kennel Club with her Skye Terrier. Vulpis discussed the beginning of this journey in an episode with Laura five years ago. Today's conversation brings the story full circle. “After our big win at Kennel Club of Philadelphia, I was thinking, we got some awesome momentum,” Vulpis said. “We got two more best in show after I spoke with you. I was like, this is incredible. And then the pandemic hit, so all that momentum and excitement just went away for me. For everyone, you know, it was just kind of a weird time. And then when we were lucky enough to have shows again, trying to pick that back up and make people believe again is kind of tough. So it was a little of a unique experience in that. “Then (I) realiz(ed) that I have these goals in mind, just these little things that I want to check off my checklist. I want to show him at my national. As a veteran. That was a goal of mine and that's what our whole plan was to do. And then I went to Canada too. I was like, let me get his Canadian Championship. Go to Canada with my girlfriends, have a girls weekend and try to get a title. So yeah, I literally only showed him in June (2024) to finish his Canadian title and then Montgomery. …if the judge can't see it, it doesn't matter… “(In Best in Show) we're showing to Lydia Coleman Hutchinson, the legend. I've shown to her several times throughout my dog's career, maybe half a dozen times. But just to be in the ring and like to put my dog on the table as you know, a 7 1/2 year old dog, like just knowing that she's seen him as a puppy, it was very emotional for me and I just kept on being like ‘Don't cry. Don't cry.' “It's just such a full circle moment. And I felt so fortunate to just be in her ring again at this stage because this is going to be my last time showing him at the National. “(On his down and back) I took a knee, man. I mean, it was my Hail Mary. It was the last move, the last card that I had in my deck. So I just got down and just tried to manipulate the lead a little bit and to get him to react to me. And just to see like, ohh, mom is eye level, that kind of thing. And so if you get that, you can get the ears to react a little bit and just let him show off that beautiful top line and his long neck. So you just want him to just for a brief second show off these qualities that we know he has. But you know the answer right? I know my dog has it, but if the judge can't see it, it doesn't matter.” To hear all of Vulpis' tips and tricks, listen in to the podcast today…
