Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Vancouver Whitecaps, Vancouver FC, Pacific FC, League 1 BC and more. To begin, they dive into the latest out of the Whitecaps, who continued an up-and-down period, one that's seen them lose three of their last four matches, including a 5-3 defeat to San Diego FC and a 3-0 loss to the LA Galaxy. Despite that, they remain in a decent spot in the Supporters Shield race, with things looking up for them after they welcomed back a couple of key regulars who spent a lengthy period away with their respective National Teams during the Gold Cup. Now, some important games await, with none more crucial than the second leg of their Canadian Championship quarter-final tie against Valour FC, as they seek to defend their status as three-time consecutive winners. Meanwhile, in CPL, Pacific FC and Vancouver FC continue to struggle, and they examine why this is the case as they look to recover from a tough start to their seasons with the midway point approaching. Lastly, Alex and Sam look back at their recent outing to a League 1 BC match, as they got to witness some exciting action between the TSS Rovers and Altitude's women's and men's team, which they'll hope is a precursor to an exciting end to that campaign. Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Vancouver Whitecaps, Vancouver FC and Pacific FC. To begin, they look at the big story of the weekend, and that's the Whitecaps, who suffered a loss they'll want to quickly forget in their first-ever Concacaf Champions Cup final. After defying the odds and making history just to reach this match, one where they had dreams of finishing the job, they instead suffered a nightmare 5-0 defeat vs. Liga MX giants, Cruz Azul, who won their 7th CCC in the process. How did it all go so wrong for the Whitecaps? Alex and Sam try their best to answer that question, as they look at all of the factors that went against the 'Caps in this match, from their squad, travel plans and much more. Once through that, they start to then look forward, as they look at what a result like this could mean for the 'Caps long-term goals, given that they've still got so much to play for in 2025, with a Canadian Championship, Supporters Shield and MLS Cup still all up for grabs. Lastly, they round off the show with a quick look at Vancouver FC and Pacific FC, who both drew Canadian Premier League matches this weekend, but in very different fashion, as they explore. We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, Canadian Championship, and international football chat. It was back to two-game weeks for Vancouver Whitecaps and that meant getting back to their winning ways. After being made to work hard to come away with a draw in Winnipeg at Valour in the Canadian Championship, the 'Caps produced a stunning comeback victory to take three points in MLS action at Real Salt Lake, giving themselves some breathing space at the top of the table for the rough weeks to come. We delve into both of those matches and chat with Whitecaps CEO Axel Schuster about what the club's run to the CONCACAF Champions Cup final means both on and off the pitch in terms of financial, recruitment, attendance, and global recognition. We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, Canadian Championship, Canadian Premier League, and general football chat. The Whitecaps put in their worst performance of the season, but still came away with a battling point in a scoreless draw down in Austin. We delve into the main talking points coming away from a match that was an off day for many and unfortunately all in the same game. A mere blip or some cause for concern that the brutal schedule is catching up with the 'Caps ahead of their CONCACAF Champions Cup final? That schedule continues apace as the 'Caps kick off their quest for a Canadian Championship fourpeat in Winnipeg. We preview the Valour game and hear from their head coach Phillip Dos Santos. Plus we sit down for a chat with the man whose penalty in last year's Voyageurs Cup final clinched the vital victory that set up this year's historic Champions Cup run, Bjorn Inge Utvik. We chat with Bjorn about that spot kick, the tournament, the cup run, having a fellow Scandinavian as head coach, and life in Vancouver. Plus we round up all the week's action in MLS and the CPL, look at the FIFA Congress coming to Vancouver next year, and music-wise Scottish band Baby Chaos continue their residency as our Album of the Month, we've a Britpop classic from Pulp, and we celebrate Crystal Palace's historic and joy-inducing FA Cup win in Wavelength. Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat Vancouver Whitecaps, Vancouver Rise, Vancouver FC and Pacific FC. To begin, they dive into the latest out of the Whitecaps, who have continued their red-hot start to the 2025 season over the past few weeks. First, in the Concacaf Champions Cup, they managed to defeat Inter Miami 5-1 on aggregate across two legs in the semi-finals of that tournament, allowing them to reach the final for the first time. Now, they'll play a Cruz Azul team that has been in excellent form in this competition, of which they're one of the winningest teams historically, in what should be a fantastic final between two fun teams to watch. Meanwhile, in MLS play, the Whitecaps are also continuing to cruise, as they still sit atop MLS's Supporters Shield standings, having continued to pick up big results in league play despite juggling their CCC responsibilities. Now, things don't get any easier for the Whitecaps, who have three MLS matches and one Canadian Championship clash to deal with before the CCC final, but based on how they've been playing, they'll just try to keep the good times rolling as they get set to tackle a crucial three-week period. Elsewhere, the BC Canadian Premier League teams have been off to mixed starts to their campaigns, with Vancouver FC now finding their feet in league play after a slow start, while Pacific is looking to recover after a strong start turned into a mini-slump. So far, Vancouver has the edge between these two teams, especially after defeating Pacific in the preliminary round of the Canadian Championship, something they hope gives them momentum going forward, but Pacific will be pleased they bounced back from that VFC loss with a big home win vs. York United days later. Lastly, the Vancouver Rise have continued their start to their inaugural campaign, sitting second in the NSL standings through four matches. Despite that, they've got plenty to work on, especially offensively, although they'll be pleased with how organized they've been defensively, giving them a good base to build on as they look to find more goals going forward. How to Climb the Mountain to Owner Handled Success Antoinelle Vulpis joins host Laura Reeves to discuss how she climbed to the pinnacle of owner handled success, winning Best in Show at Montgomery Kennel Club with her Skye Terrier. Vulpis discussed the beginning of this journey in an episode with Laura five years ago. Today's conversation brings the story full circle. “After our big win at Kennel Club of Philadelphia, I was thinking, we got some awesome momentum,” Vulpis said. “We got two more best in show after I spoke with you. I was like, this is incredible. And then the pandemic hit, so all that momentum and excitement just went away for me. For everyone, you know, it was just kind of a weird time. And then when we were lucky enough to have shows again, trying to pick that back up and make people believe again is kind of tough. So it was a little of a unique experience in that. “Then (I) realiz(ed) that I have these goals in mind, just these little things that I want to check off my checklist. I want to show him at my national. As a veteran. That was a goal of mine and that's what our whole plan was to do. And then I went to Canada too. I was like, let me get his Canadian Championship. Go to Canada with my girlfriends, have a girls weekend and try to get a title. So yeah, I literally only showed him in June (2024) to finish his Canadian title and then Montgomery. …if the judge can't see it, it doesn't matter… “(In Best in Show) we're showing to Lydia Coleman Hutchinson, the legend. I've shown to her several times throughout my dog's career, maybe half a dozen times. But just to be in the ring and like to put my dog on the table as you know, a 7 1/2 year old dog, like just knowing that she's seen him as a puppy, it was very emotional for me and I just kept on being like ‘Don't cry. Don't cry.' “It's just such a full circle moment. And I felt so fortunate to just be in her ring again at this stage because this is going to be my last time showing him at the National. “(On his down and back) I took a knee, man. I mean, it was my Hail Mary. It was the last move, the last card that I had in my deck. So I just got down and just tried to manipulate the lead a little bit and to get him to react to me. And just to see like, ohh, mom is eye level, that kind of thing. And so if you get that, you can get the ears to react a little bit and just let him show off that beautiful top line and his long neck. So you just want him to just for a brief second show off these qualities that we know he has. But you know the answer right? I know my dog has it, but if the judge can't see it, it doesn't matter.” To hear all of Vulpis' tips and tricks, listen in to the podcast today…

The former Brondy and Denmark U21 head coach bring a wealth of experience to Vancouver as a player and a manager. We delve into the appointment and ponder what will the hire mean to the 'Caps? Some fans are enthused, some feel it's underwhelming, but we won't know until the season plays out. The appointment sees every MLS coaching search complete. We look at the other hires around the league this year, including Robin Fraser to Toronto FC. A surprisingly underwhelming appointment or a shrewd one? Plus we look at some coaching extensions in the CPL. We've two feature interviews to bring you this week. None more so than UBC Thunderbirds, who achieved an unprecedented USPORTS double on the men's and the women's side. It's D & D time in North American soccer, but instead of rolling the dice for some fantasy fun, it's clubs doing so in terms of a multitude of Drafts and Draws.
