Oscar Pareja's return to Frisco ended in tumult for FC Dallas, as a 3-1 loss in the penultimate home game puts the Toros' playoff chances in peril. Sam Hale, Owen Newkirk, and Steve Davis break down what happened in the loss, shout out an unexpected bright spot, and look ahead to some MLS After Dark action upcoming. This program originally aired on the FC Dallas Radio Network on September 28th, 2024.
Inter Miami CF take control and cruise to victories in MLS and Concacaf Champions Cup. Meanwhile, in Orlando City SC, it's starting to get very hot under Oscar Pareja's seat. We break down each team's previous match and look ahead to what's coming.

Second verse, same as the first! Orlando City scored a first-half goal and rode that and a solid defensive game plan to a 1-0 playoff victory over Nashville SC in Game 2. This was essentially the same script, only with a less impressive winning goal and it took place in Tennessee rather than Florida, but the result is that the Lions are through the first-round series and on to the Eastern Conference semifinals. We break down another nervy, cagey match between two teams that are really starting to hate each other, and we select our unanimous Man of the Match. The mailbagbox was chock full this week and as a result, we babbled for a while about such topics as Inter Miami's seemingly endless supply of star players who aren't Designated Players, Oscar Pareja's postseason plans, various strikers who could help Orlando City next year, and more. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we discussed the weirdness of MLS in terms of not reseeding the playoffs after the first round, and whether Orlando City would be better off playing Atlanta United or the Columbus Crew in the Eastern Conference semifinals. There is some consensus but also some split thinking on that topic. Here's how No. 387 went down: 0:15 – The Lions won in Nashville for the second time in a month and this time the prize was a trip to the Eastern Conference semifinals. 35:14 – With the nerves of Round 1 behind our listeners, our mailbagbox was stuffed full of questions. 1:10:10 — A discussion of whether Orlando City fans should be rooting for Columbus or Atlanta to get out of the other Eastern Conference first-round series. We've gotten through the final international break of the 2023 Major League Soccer regular season and soon we'll be watching the matches around the league on Decision Day. The final day of the season takes place on Saturday and the Lions will be north of the border for a meeting with Toronto FC. The Reds will have a few more things to play for than Orlando City on Saturday, including a new head coach, spots on the team for next season, and to send off captain Michael Bradley with one final victory. The Lions have nothing at stake on Saturday beyond sharpening their claws for the postseason. That can make a team dangerous. Before we dove into our Toronto preview, however, we spent some time discussing several topics. We checked in on the Orlando City players who were with their national teams this past week, including Duncan McGuire, who scored his first goal with the U.S. U-23 squad. The Orlando rookie just keeps on impressing with almost everything he does. We also spoke about the MLSPA salary reveal and how it affected Orlando City. Then we got sidetracked talking about Lionel Messi, and I'll take the blame for that because I really just wanted to talk about Pedro Gallese taking a pitch rusher's phone and launching it across the field when Peru played Argentina. Our mailbagbox was very concerned about the futures of Oscar Pareja, Luiz Muzzi, and Ricardo Moreira. Our listeners also asked us about our new favorite things and how much we keep up with former Orlando City players when they leave and join new teams. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we gave our thoughts on the key matchups for Saturday's regular-season finale at BMO Field in Toronto and offered up our score predictions for Decision Day as well. Here's how No. 383 went down: 0:15 – Lions in the international window, a new promotion for Orlando City matches against Miami, and more. 24:05 – The mailbagbox isn't too empty or too full. It's just right. 44:08 — Here's what we think will happen on Decision Day in Toronto. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Hear from the managers Oscar Pareja and Gonzalo Pineda as Atlanta United prepares to host Orlando City tonight at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
As the Lions prepare for an important trip to Gillette Stadium to play the New England Revolution, there will be some names missing from the starting XI and even from the bench. We discussed how Oscar Pareja's troops will assemble in Massachusetts and what will happen in the second half when tired legs require substitutions. Sam Minton from The Blazing Musket joins us this week to give us the scoop on what's been going on in New England this year. Just like The Mane Land, our friends who support the Revolution have left SBNation, but unlike us, they are operating as a Substack newsletter. Sam told us about the Revs' missing players, but they won't be without as many key guys, and that seems like an advantage for a team that has never lost at home to Orlando City. In other words, they don't need any more help. Big thanks to Sam for his time and for dropping the Revs knowledge on us. After our talk with Sam, we jump into our mailbagbox to answer anything you asked us. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we gathered our thoughts on the key matchups for Saturday's game and made our bold score predictions. Here's how No. 353 went down: 0:15 – Depth is good until you use it and there's no more behind it. 15:56 – Sam Minton jumps on to update us on all things Revolution. 31:40 – The mailbagbox and our key matchups and score predictions for Saturday's trip to Gillette Stadium. Hear from the managers Gonzalo Pineda and Oscar Pareja along with Atlanta United players Miles Robinson, Ronald Hernandez, and Machop Chol ahead of the 5 Stripes trip to Orlando on Saturday.
Orlando City went back on the road for a tussle with its neighbors to the south in the latest installment of the Tropic Thunder rivalry. The Lions struck first and last in a good overall performance against Inter Miami and claimed all three points in Fort Lauderdale for just the second time in five visits. Ercan Kara continued to pour in goal contributions with one strike and one assist. Not to be outdone, new Designated Player Martin Ojeda did the same. We're breaking down an enjoyable match in which things clicked on both ends of the pitch for Orlando City, and Oscar Pareja pulled all the right strings. We also made our selections for Man of the Match. Following our match rewind, we welcome The Mane Land Platinum Founder Samuel Atkinson to the program. Samuel wanted to talk about Orlando City and MLS salaries, and we had an interesting chat about the league's pay structure and how OCSC fits into the grand scheme of things. Big thanks to Samuel for the chat, and for his help in us getting our footing as an independent website. We also discussed Orlando City B's comeback against Atlanta United 2. The Young Lions battled back valiantly and probably deserved more than one point based on overall play, but any time a team is down multiple goals and takes any points out of the match, it can only be viewed as a positive. Finally, we dipped into the mailbagbox and answered listener questions about soccer position numbers, movie franchises that overstayed their welcome, and former Lion Chris Mueller. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We'll be back later in the week to prepare for Orlando City's upcoming match against Atlanta United. Here's how No. 346 went down: 0:15 – The Lions brought all the points home from Fort Lauderdale. That's the optimal outcome. 19:11 – Orlando City salary and Designated Player chat with one of our Platinum Founders. 43:37 – OCB battled for the full 90 against Atlanta United 2, plus a full mailbagbox. It's a busy & uncertain time for Orlando City fans, but Orlando Lions Den has you covered! This week Alex Brown, Mike, and Alex Reiter got together to discuss the loss in Montreal & what comes next. Stock up/stock down was slim pickings this week after the trip to Montreal, but we found some upsides. We also dove into why we are consistently inconcistent, and how short a leash Oscar Pareja has with the front office going into the Open Cup round of 32 matchup against Charlotte FC. And finally, we discussed the implecations of the Open Cup result & previewed how the trip to Columbus a few days later will be impacted. Orlando City broke its home slump with a comprehensive 2-0 win over the LA Galaxy at Exploria Stadium Saturday night and it was a lot more fun to watch than the previous four home matches. The Lions played with confidence and chemistry and were the protagonists of the game that Oscar Pareja always wants them to be. We break down Orlando City's win, including the return of Mikey Halliday and Ercan Kara — both key factors in the victory — the awesome display by the center backs, and some well-worked team goals. We choose a unanimous Man of the Match and tell you which Lions made Team of the Matchday. The Lions also got their U.S. Open Cup championship rings on Monday and they're cool. We would like to have one but we did not win the U.S. Open Cup. OCB left it late but came on strong in the final 10 minutes to equalize and then take the lead against Toronto FC II at home on Sunday. The Young Lions remain unbeaten at home and a strong early contender in the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference race. We'll tell you who scored and talk you through OCB's latest win. Finally, we dove into our mailbagbox to answer your questions about Orlando City's midfield and striker positions. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us anything by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 340 went down: 0:15 – The Lions win at home! The three DPs played (well) together! We'd like to get used to this. 26:50 – OCB won at home again but this time in dramatic fashion, overcoming two deficits and breaking Toronto FC II hearts. 35:36 – The mailbagbox had some mail in it and we love it, so we answered that mail. We start this episode of The Mane Land PawedCast by addressing the cries of the impatient, the malcontents, and the anarchists. Those folks want Orlando City to dismiss the club's most successful coach after just eight league matches. We remind folks that Orlando City had the Champions League, a few bumps and bruises, and multiple new pieces to fit together and the season is only eight games old. There will be plenty of time to panic later, so there's no need to rush it. We're joined by Alicia Rodriguez who has spent the last few years writing for LAG Confidential — a former SBNation blog that is going to launch an independent site in the near future — and the author of the Soccermusings Substack newsletter. Alicia helps us break down what we can expect from the LA Galaxy this Saturday night when they visit Exploria Stadium to play Orlando City. We also had our second mailbagbox of the week, following the questions we answered in Episode 338. This time out, the listeners asked us to play general manager, to decide whether Arsenal is a "super club," whether Tata Martino would be a good fit at Orlando City if Oscar Pareja left, and more. Remember, if there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us anything by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we previewed Orlando City vs. the LA Galaxy including our key matchups and score predictions for Saturday's match. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 339 went down: 0:15 – We can panic later. There's no reason to do so now. 16:39 – Alicia Rodriguez enlightens us about all things LA Galaxy. 35:35 – Our mailbagbox and our key matchups and score predictions for Orlando City vs. the LA Galaxy. After a win at Philadelphia, Orlando City's homecoming wasn't a fun one Saturday, but if one looks beyond the scoreline of the Lions' 2-0 loss to Nashville SC, the performance didn't match the result. The Lions — for the most part, anyway — controlled the match, generated the most chances, and honestly should have scored a couple of goals. They didn't. Instead, they got caught twice by the visitors, who created only a few chances, but converted on two of them, and the first was a gift. We break down a frustrating home loss but we also aren't ready to call for anyone's head just yet, and we explain why. We also select our Man of the Match picks and look forward to Orlando getting healthy and rested for a meeting on April 15 with Minnesota United on the road. We don't normally talk about OCB second, but the Young Lions are the club's only undefeated professional side after a 2-1 win over Huntsville City in the club's home opener. Alex Freeman scored both goals for OCB and the team was albe to withstand a lot of pressure against the visitors to improve to 2-0-0. Speaking of Freeman, he joined us as this week's guest and we asked him about his experiences in camp, what Oscar Pareja has told him he needs to do better to get first-team minutes, how he adjusts to playing for OCB and then quickly changing gears for international play, and much more. Big thanks to Alex for coming on the show and to a couple of our Founders for submitting some questions. The Pride dropped a heartbreaker in their home opener but man, did they ever create some scoring chances against Angel City. The visitors had to rely on a penalty and a last-gasp header, in addition to numerous missed opportunities by the home team to take three points out of Exploria Stadium for the first time. Ally Watt had a rough match in front of goal but better days lie ahead if Seb Hines can get that kind of performance out of his team each week. We also discussed NWSL expansion and the Pride's recent signing of three young additions to the team. The OCSC academy teams won their groups at the Generation Adidas tournament and will be in action today as a result. It's always nice to see the kids doing well against difficult competition. Finally, we dove into our mailbagbox, which asked us about bar brawls, how Orlando City spends money on players, and (of all things) the Tampa Bay Rowdies' home crowd. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 333 went down: 0:15 – The Lions dropped a game they could have won (but didn't) and a lot of people are upset about it. We're going to try to stay rational and positive for the time being and explain why others should do so too. 41:41 –Alex Freeman scored twice and that really made us want to talk to him. So we did. 54:16 – The Pride played better but got the same result, although wit Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Adam, Daniel, Gavin, and Taylor give a comprehensive review of the 2022 Orlando City season, discussing the Open Cup run, the disappointing MLS regular season, player performances, Oscar Pareja, and much much more.
Orlando City‘s season is over. The Lions were unceremoniously dumped by a team from a city where they call goals “buts” and they put mayonaisse on their cheeseburgers — on purpose! Orlando may have fallen to CF Montreal but that was a game that could have gone either way and it illustrates the importance of winning enough in the regular season to host games in the postseason. We break down the Lions' 2-0 loss to the Clubfoots and make our selections for Man of the Match. We also check in on our predictions to see how well we prognosticated the outcome. After a little discussion about the season and the kneejerk reactions some folks had to the bitter finality of the 2022 campaign, we reflect on how things went pretty well this year, all things considered, and how it sets up 2023. After that, we embark on our annual “stays or goes” predictions for both Orlando City and the Orlando Pride. If you're not familiar with this, it's what we do after every season, going through the roster, touching on each player's contract status (as best we can, in some cases), and trying to predict which players will be back and which ones won't (and sometimes opining a bit about it). This week's mailbag asked us about other teams and sports we follow, whether Oscar Pareja's job is in jeopardy, and which front office personnel we'd swap out if we could. We're not sure really how to answer that last one but we gave it a go anyway. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Programming note: We'll be taking next week off to recharge our batteries a bit, unless some news breaks that we feel we must address without waiting a week. That could take many forms, but it might just be the end-of-season contract decisions, the hiring of an Orlando Pride coach, or something of that nature. But we really hope we're going to be off next week! Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 316 went down: 0:15 - The season is over and everything is bad forever, or at least until it becomes good again. Our thoughts on the CF Montreal match, how it unfolded, and on the 2022 Orlando City season in general. 32:49 - It's time for our annual walk through the Orlando City and Pride rosters to try to figure out which players will stay and which ones will be gone when opening day arrives in 2023. There's a lot less guesswork involved when you have the actual contract durations, but there are no guarantees! 1:29:35 - The mailbag has a little bit of a defeatest tone overall this week but we're more than capable of meeting it with a stiff upper lip. Highlights from this week's show. In this episode, Coach Gough and Justin look at the tactical battle between Pat Noonan's FC Cincinnati and Oscar Pareja's Orlando City. FCC won the scoreline, but who won the tactical battle? The guys also ask, "how good was Brenner's goal?" before swooning over the play of Obinna Nwobodo. Then, after the mailbag, Coach gives a quick look ahead to the NYCFC match. Follow Coach and Justin Coach is @FCCincyTacTalk and Justin is @JustinHoyte32 Support Talking Tactics and CST! USMNT [5:50]: takeaways and MVPs from Grenada game and El Salvador traveshamockery plus starting XI if World Cup started this week HEADLINES [37:20]: pros and cons of MLS's 10-year deal with AppleTV; PFA team of the year quibbles, robots coming to WC26 and Chile trying to snake Ecuador's spot at WC22 WWI [1:04:30]: switched it up this week and going with a random mailbag Q&A REST OF WORLD [1:16:30]: the struggle is real to try and care about Nations League STOPPAGE TIME [1:19:30]: one of the most unanimous GOAWs in pod history Next up, exactly 12 months since our first chat, Chris Mueller [1:25:35] stops by to discuss what went right and wrong with his move from Orlando City to Scotland, lessons learned from his Hibs experience, why he didn't golf more over there, how his move back to the Chicago Fire went down, differences between Oscar Pareja and Ezra Hendrickson, where he gets his never-ending supply of motivational quotes and an answer to the question we have all been DYING to know: who his best looking GK teammate is.
Gavin, Chase, and Adam discuss the pros and cons of having Oscar Pareja as our head coach.
Orlando City got smoked in Montreal like the meat they sell at the delis there. The Lions were never really in the 4-1 road loss, even when they cut the 2-0 deficit in half on Joao Moutinho's goal. The side was missing much more than center back Robin Jansson. It was lacking any kind of connectivity from back to front. As a result, the Lions attempted only two shots in the match — an even more dismal offensive output than in the home loss to New York. We break things down a bit and select our Man of the Match. We were much more pleased with Tuesday's result — a 2-1 home win over the Philadelphia Union in U.S. Open Cup action. The Lions had a lot more ability to break lines and shuttle the ball forward with Junior Urso, Andres Perea, and Alexandre Pato keeping Facundo Torres and Ercan Kara from getting too isolated. It wasn't a perfect outing. Many mistakes were made. However, it was a step in the right direction and hopefully one upon which Oscar Pareja can build. We selected our Man of the Match for the U.S. Open Cup win as well, and we were unanimous again. Two new Lions joined the team this week but only one will play in 2022. Jake Mulraney provides much-needed coverage on the wing, while future star Gaston Gonzalez will have to wait until 2023 to show us what he can do because of his unfortunate knee injury. The Orlando Pride traveled west and brought back Amanda Cromwell's first NWSL victory from Sunday's 1-0 road win at Angel City FC. Sydney Leroux's goal was just about enough and the Pride were fortunate not to pay for several misses that could have put the game out of reach before halftime. Orlando was easily the better side for the first half hour but things got a bit dicey over the last hour. When needed, Erin McLeod came up big. It's an important building block for the Pride. OCB was off for the second straight week. This week's mailbag asked about movies I haven't seen yet, how to rank the trophies from various MLS competitions, and who the Lions should want to play in the next round of the Open Cup. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. And we closed the show by giving our key match-ups and score predictions for Saturday's return to Canada as Orlando City visits Toronto FC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 294 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City had mixed results, bombing badly in MLS play and then performing well to advance in the Open Cup. 39:13 - The Pride were much better in the second week of the regular season against Angel City. 58:57 - The mailbag beckons and we have predictions for Saturday's match in Toronto. Orlando City kept up its solid road form this past weekend with a 2-0 win over the Crew in Columbus. It was a standout performance for the Lions, particularly Rodrigo Schlegel — who opened his MLS account — and Facundo Torres, who was influential on both Orlando goals. We broke down the match and ranted a bit about Schlegel getting snubbed for MLS Team of the Week. We also selected our Man of the Match, which was unanimous. Orlando City will host Arsenal in a midseason friendly — the club's first since 2016. The Lions will be in heavy fixture congestion in July, so it will be interesting to see how Oscar Pareja sets his team up to battle a club that's known throughout the world. The Pride set a dubious NWSL record this weekend by conceding not once, not twice, but thrice inside the first nine minutes of their match against North Carolina. Orlando showed good fight to pull back within 3-2 with half an hour to play but the Pride could get no further. Darian Jenkins was a bright spot for Orlando with a brace, but it's been a dismal Challenge Cup for the club. OCB lost its second straight 2-0 match on the road — this time at Columbus Crew 2. The Young Lions have a lot to learn about life on the road and will try to bounce back at home on Sunday as they'll play New England II following the Lions' game against the New York Red Bulls. This week's mailbag was quite full, and we answered a question about Gaston Gonzalez, only to find out after recording that the young Argentine player hurt his knee while playing for Union Santa Fe. We hate when that happens. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. And we closed the show by giving our key match-ups and score predictions for tonight's match vs. the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Sunday's game against the Red Bulls. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 291 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City got a win in Columbus and Rodrigo Schlegel was a big reason why. Plus, the Gunners are coming to the City Beautiful. 33:13 - The Pride and OCB had weekends to forget. However, Orlando's NWSL side will get a clean slate after this weekend's game and the Young Lions will return home to try to get back on track. 49:31 - Our mailbag is a full one this week and our key match-ups and score predictions for both of this week's matches. Orlando City reached the postseason without a single player or a head coach deemed worthy of being a finalist for an MLS award for 2021. That's quite a feat! We discuss the MLS Awards finalists and talk a little about the job Oscar Pareja did over the course of the year. We also talked about the persistent Daryl Dike-to-England rumors and I propose an idea. The United States Men's National Team took care of business against Mexico in Cincinnati with another #DosACero and the third win over its archrival during the calendar year. There will be people moping about two dropped points in a 1-1 draw at Jamaica but it's all part of this young team's growth — learning how to respond after an emotional win. That's it for qualifying until 2022, so those four points of a possible six will have to do. With no Orlando Pride news to discuss, we also talked about the upsets in the NWSL playoffs and how interesting the final looks now that the two favorites are out. Good luck to the Washington Spirit and Chicago Red Stars. This week's mailbag asked about some Orlando City youngsters and whether or not they will see the field more in 2022. There was also a question about contract options and we kicked the can a little bit because we can't spoil our annual “stays or goes” show. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 272 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City news is scarce this week but we discuss Daryl Dike rumors and how the Lions can address them. Plus, the USMNT earned some points. 34:32 - Our mailbag asks about Jordan Bender and Derek Dodson and we discuss Tuesday's inevitable draw against Nashville and how it wil resolve itself in the end. LOS ANGELES (Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021) – Playing the second of three games in the span of eight days, the LA Galaxy earned their second consecutive win with a 3-0 shutout victory on the road over Houston Dynamo FC at PNC Stadium on Wednesday night. Sacha Kljestan registered the game-winning goal and Kévin Cabral notched his fifth goal of the season, while Jonathan Bond registered seven saves in the shutout. Greg Vanney Earns 100th MLS Regular-Season Win With the Galaxy's win over Houston, LA Galaxy Head Coach Greg Vanney became the 12th manager in MLS history to win 100 regular-season matches. Dating back to the beginning of the 2015 MLS regular season, Vanney ranks first amongst all MLS head coaches in wins (98). Sporting KC's Peter Vermes ranks second (94), while Philadelphia's Jim Curtain ranks third (89). Orlando's Oscar Pareja (85) ranks fourth, while Seattle's Brian Schmetzer (84) rounds out the top five.
Orlando City picked the most dramatic ways to stop the bleeding this past week. The Lions roared back from two goals down on the road, scoring the equalizer in stoppage time to draw 2-2 at Nashville SC in the midweek. Then, on Saturday, Orlando improved on that by scoring a game winner deep in stoppage time in a 2-1 home win over D.C. United. The end of a four-game losing streak, followed by the end of a five-game winless streak, was a welcome sight. Neither of those was easy, but Orlando City found a way to get it done and Oscar Pareja was jubilant to see his team get back in the win column on Saturday. Daryl Dike is a big reason why, with a goal in three consecutive games. Dave Rohe and I broke down both results, which have left the Lions in a good place now that the international break is here. While the team would no doubt love to try to continue its positive momentum, there is nothing wrong with stopping at a good spot and maybe getting some guys healthy and rested for a vital final stretch run. We also talked about Dike's iconic goal celebration and how it stacked up against another favorite in the team's history. The Orlando Pride did not play on the road at Chicago this past week as the fallout of the Paul Riley news and subsequent departure of Lisa Baird as NWSL commissioner had ripple effect throughout a league that is trying to recover from a collective trauma and move forward in a way that both makes sense and, most importantly, protects its players from predatory behavior. That protection means nothing if the system that can stop such behavior is fundamentally broken, flawed, or flat out misused by those in charge. We wish nothing but the best for the NWSL's talented players and demand that the NWSL finds some system-wide fixes. This week's mailbag asks about Orlando City and Pride versions of player Mount Rushmores, scary movies, halftime shows, and comebacks. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with some USMNT World Cup qualifier discussion about the roster, some key injuries, and the upcoming matches. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 266 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City left it late both times but got a draw and a win against top Eastern Conference competition. It was stressful, but we'll take it. 39:48 - The NWSL has some extremely important business to take care of in the wake of the Paul Riley news that dropped last week. It must answer for what was done and it must make sure it does everything it can to prevent it in the future. Plus, our mailbag and some USMNT talk. Learn more about your ad choices. Orlando City lost its fourth straight match on Saturday and yet somehow it felt a lot less terrible than some of the other recent losses. The league-leading New England Revolution are formidable, especially in their own building (with the awful football lines and plastic grass), but the Lions did play mostly well in the match. We break down the game, including some tough bounces, calls, and slips that helped the Revs get the 2-1 result. And yes, we do discuss penalty kicks as well. And, as usual, we select our Man of the Match. The Orlando Pride got clobbered 3-0 at OL Reign and while a result on the other corner of the continent against a team in good form was never going to be easy, it sure seemed at least possible until the opening whistle blew. Orlando's slow starts cost them dearly in this one and it wasn't until the game was out of reach when the Pride started playing soccer. This week's mailbag asked whether former FC Dallas coach Luchi Gonzalez could join Oscar Pareja and Luiz Muzzi in Orlando, who from the Pride should be poached for a professional co-ed soccer club, and which players would be the ideal starting XI for the upcoming USMNT qualifiers. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City at Nashville SC tonight and vs. D.C. United at Exploria Stadium on Saturday. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 265 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City lost again but didn't look nearly as bad as some recent matches and at least the Lions finished with 11 men, which is kind of an improvement. 34:17 - The Pride got blown out in Washington state, our mailbag confuses and perplexes us, and we try to predict what's going to happen at Nashville and at home against D.C. Por primera vez bajo Oscar Pareja. OC pierde 3 juegos al hilo
The boys are back for Episode 34 and we're talking Leo Messi to PSG with all the drama behind the transfer from FC Barcelona. We're also joined by special guest, Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera, of the USL side RGV Toros. We discuss with Coach Wilmer his experience previously working alongside Oscar Pareja, his time now coaching in the USL, and previously being a USMNT U-17 & U-18 coach. You don't want to miss this amazing episode. Tune in!
Orlando City is on a three-game unbeaten run after a pair of uninspiring 1-1 draws against rival Inter Miami (at home) and perenially bad FC Cincinnati (on the road) since our last episode. The Lions could, and should, have taken more from both games but points are points and the soccer gods seem unwilling to allow Oscar Pareja to have his preferred starters all healthy at the same time, so second place in the conference isn't a bad place to be, all things considered. We break down both 1-1 draws and make our Man of the Match selections for each and we've actually got some variety in our choices this week. We also talk about the recent absence of Daryl Dike and the continued absence of Alexandre Pato, as well as whether those things mean anything, especially since Orlando City made no signings before the secondary transfer window closed. Oh, and Nani and El Pulpo are All-Stars! Eugene Rupinski from FMF State of Mind jumped on with us to help us preview Orlando City's upcoming Leagues Cup match against Liga MX side Santos Laguna. Big thanks to Eugene, who knows Santos and Liga MX quite well. We'd be flying blindly into Thursday without him. The Orlando Pride got a couple of key starters back from international duty and took another step forward under Becky Burleigh with a 2-0 win on the road against the Chicago Red Stars. Sydney Leroux scored again and Jodie Taylor seems to be finding her footing with Orlando, but the team just seems better organized and less likely to make critical errors the last couple of matches. We discuss the job Burleigh has done since taking over and the signing of draft pick Viviana Villacorta (who is, unfortunately, out for the year with an ACL injury). This week's mailbag has concerns over dropped points against teams low in the table, and Daryl Dike's existence on the OCSC roster. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. We close the show with our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City vs. Santos Laguna. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 258 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City got a pair of underwhelming draws, but the team is in second place and every point counts. We break it down and rant a bit about injury report shenanigans (again). 43:16 - Eugene Rupinski tells us what kind of team the Lions will face when Santos Laguna visits Exploria Stadium Thursday night. 1:04:08 - Our Orlando Pride-Chicago Red Stars breakdown, mailbag questions, and our key match-ups and predictions for Orlando City vs. Santos. Orlando City is on a losing streak. This awful feeling that you have is something that you thought went away after Oscar Pareja's arrival, but here we are after multiple losses for the Lions and a date with a rejuvenated Toronto FC looming on Saturday. Orlando went to Chicago and failed miserably to take its chances, allowing the hosts to hang around and ultimately win the game going away, 3-1. We break it down and give our Man of the Match picks. We also discuss the potential signing of a new left back that wasn't officially announced but was reported with such details so as to be basically unofficially announced while we were recording the podcast. (Welcome, Emmanuel Mas!) And nobody wants to think about a sale of Chris Mueller but he's being sought by some Belgian clubs. We get into the tricky nature of Mueller's contract situation and what Orlando can do to maximize the situation. The Orlando Pride played their worst match of the season on the heels of consecutive losses but somehow didn't lose. Sydney Leroux's goal at the death lifted Orlando to a home draw against Racing Louisville over the weekend and Marc Skinner's club has a difficult July to navigate if the Pride are going to not only stay in the hunt for a regular-season title, but also just to remain in the playoff race. A new signing since our last show might help with that. International soccer continues to be a big topic this summer and the Concacaf Gold Cup is in full swing. Not only are the U.S. men in action but there are other international matches being played right here in Orlando. We talk about what's happened so far and why you should go see some Group C games at Exploria Stadium even if you don't have any skin in the game. This week's mailbag wants to know about Derek Dodson's loan and whether Yoshimar Yotun could return. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. That's all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 254 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City struggles to find the net and we've got some transfer talk (and only some of it was outdated by the time we finished recording). 28:00 - The Pride find a way to avoid a home defeat against Louisville and add an attacking player. 55:26 - It's mailbag time and we give you our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City against Toronto FC...wherever they're playing. Orlando City set a new MLS club best by going unbeaten in five matches to start the season with Sunday night’s 1-0 win at D.C. United. It wasn’t the prettiest win, but sometimes that’s what you need to do on the road. The Lions looked lively in the first half but after Mauricio Pereyra’s early goal just couldn’t find that final touch to double the lead, leaving the game there for United to take. D.C. came out flying in the second half and Oscar Pareja made a tactical change in an effort to put more defenders in the way, hoping for a clean outlet to hit the hosts in transition. That never materialized, but the defending was superb, as City allowed only 13 shots and just one on target. Dave and I break down the game, give our Man of the Match selections, and laud the play of that back line. We also had a fun chat about Hernan Losada’s salty post-match comments, which do well to deflect some of the criticism that could be leveled against he and his team, but also just is dumb on the surface. Plus, full houses are coming soon to Exploria Stadium! Is it too soon for that? Should there be special sections for vaccinated folks? We discuss. We are joined this week by a pair of guests. The first was Chris Gates from the Daily Norseman, the SBN site covering the Minnesota Vikings. Chris fills us in on what kind of owners the Wilf family have been in the Twin Cities, which might lend some clues as to what we might expect when they take over Orlando City. Our second guest is Mitchell Tierney from Waking the Red. Mitchell helps us preview Saturday night’s home match against Toronto FC — the third straight opponent the Lions didn’t face in 2020. We thank Mitchell for his insight into the Reds and what “Orlando’s other team” may do Saturday night. The Pride kicked off their season at home against the Washington Spirit and they rescued a 1-1 draw in a match that was evenly played but it seemed like Orlando wasted some golden chances. We’ve got some Marta talk and we also look ahead to the Pride’s upcoming trip to play the North Carolina Courage. We’ve got an update from Daryl Dike’s loan spell as his Barnsley FC side opened up its promotion playoff run. We also had to discuss the Columbus Crew coming to their senses and backing their rebrand way the heck up. Plus, a call-up for an Orlando Homegrown and we dive once again into our mailbag to answer your questions. Then we get to our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City vs. Toronto FC this weekend. If there’s anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. That’s all for this week. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here’s how show No. 246 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City wins on the road for the first time in 2021 and we’re talking about what the Lions did right and wrong. Plus, our MotM, a soon-to-be-full Exploria, and more. 35:34 - Our first guest knows a lot more about the Wilf family owning his team than we do, so we ask him about it. 48:55 - A Toronto FC preview from a guy who knows the Reds better than we do, and he tells us everything we need to know, so someone just has to get this podcast to Oscar Pareja and the Lions will be set! 1:05:30 - The Orlando Pride earn a point in the season opener, Marta’s play so far in 2021, Daryl Dike’s playoff run, the Crew walk back their rebrand, another fun mailbag, and, finally, our key match-ups and score predictions.
