Hello Colorado Rapids fans. This week on Holding The High Line, we discuss the end of the Rapids Apertura. The guys banter about the end of the European season. Mark gets his flowers for Arsenal winning the Premier League. We talk Champions League and react to the USMNT roster. We break down the San Jose Earthquakes and FC Dallas game. The Pids made history in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup game. These matches had similar energy. Games of moments and goals where not a lot happened. Also, the officiating was a talking point. We break it down. The we take a step back and look at the season so far. It's great the Rapids are in the Open Cup Semifinal. The team is playing some good football. But looking at the MLS table, the results don't like. What does Matt Wells say about the style of play, mentality, and progress? Oh and we do some Rapid fire predictions for the rest of the season and the World Cup. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Today is our final podcast for the month of May looking at mental and spiritual health. Today, from the Gospel of Mark 5:1-20, we see the fragile mental state of a man besieged with demons. Jesus heals him. During the podcast we look at the condition of the man and contemplate how often times we dismiss stories like this as fantastical and too amazing to maybe even be true; however, the truth is that many of us are driven into dark, isolating places with our own “demons” (spiritual or not). While the posture of the people from the surrounding towns looks promising, the resources offered in the past aren’t really restorative of helpful, only the power of Jesus can truly heal the man. We need this power in our own lives, today. For the second straight Saturday FC Dallas reverses a long time road jinx, beating Colorado Rapids 3-2 away from Frisco for the first time since 2014. Sam, Ryan, and Steve break down a bowling shoe ugly win that is still a win, talk through two strong performances in the center of the pitch, and discuss what it means for Dallas to be in 4th place at the end of Saturday's win. This program originally aired on the FC Dallas Radio Network on May 23rd, 2026.
One last game for FC Dallas before the 2026 FIFA World Cup interrupts the MLS regular season. Sam, Garrett, and Premier League champion Ryan Figert talk through a big loss for Dallas because of the aforementioned World Cup, some important roster decisions Eric Quill has to make due to good form, and taking advantage of a sometimes overly physical squad in Colorado.

Continuing to look at mental, emotionally and spiritual health issues, we turn this week to look at a particular story of madness in the book of Daniel and how a king went mad with his delusions of grandeur and himself. Certainly, pride played a factor, but from King Nebuchadnezzar’s life we learn that there is a warning God intends for us when it comes to building our own kingdoms and brands without Him. Even if we don’t heed the warning God gives, He can still restore us from the insanity that we find ourselves trapped by. You can find this story Daniel 4. May is Mental Health Awareness month. It’s during this time that here is an increased emphasis on looking after one’s mental and emotional health. Last week on the podcast, we talked about our environment and needing to take an assessment of what voices and other things in our surrounding environment are affecting and impacting our mental and spiritual state. Today, we look at the ways that God meets us in the midst of our own mess. There are highs and lows in football, just like in life. There are moments when we take on the game’s greatest (like Lionel Messi) and moments when we can’t wait to shower and get out of the stadium because we (or the team) just laid an egg against an opponent. We can become exhausted working through the highs and lows. Today, we look at the life of Elijah (the prophet of Israel) and the moment that he was ready to give up on life — thinking that he had failed or just being fed up and too frustrated to go on. You can find this story I Kings 19. During the month of May, there is an increased emphasis on looking after one’s mental and emotional health. For the next few weeks on the podcast, I want to look at some biblical stories that deal with individuals who struggled with mental health and some of the changes that they made in their lives and ways that God helped them through a difficult time or struggle. This week, we look at a moment in King Saul’s life when he was struggling with depression and fear. It was at the recommendation of some of his servants that Saul seek to change his environment — namely, through the playing of music and the presence of David as a servant. Even though Saul had disobeyed God and was rejected as king, God still was gracious to Saul to give him relief from the overwhelming sense that he felt. What in your environment needs to be changed? Are you able to see any needs for change? What are some ways that God can give you relief from the pressures that you feel — whether you are an athlete, coach, or staffer? Welcome back to the Bayou City Soccer Podcast! This week, the guys break down a pair of gritty Houston victories, starting with a dramatic showdown against Louisville City FC and a hard-fought result against the Colorado Rapids.Houston was pushed to the brink midweek, needing a last-minute equalizer from Erik Sviatchenko to keep their hopes alive against Louisville. That goal sent the match into extra time, where Ezequiel Ponce stepped up to deliver the winner and punch Houston's ticket to the quarterfinals, where they'll face St. Louis City SC.Then on Saturday, Houston got their revenge against Colorado, grinding out a disciplined 1–0 win at Shell Energy Stadium. The result marks five wins in their last six matches, a clear sign this team is hitting form at the right time. Now, all eyes turn to Sunday's clash with Los Angeles FC, as Houston looks to keep the momentum rolling heading into the upcoming World Cup break.-All that and much more in this episode!-We invite you to follow us at Bayou City Soccer!-BayouCitySoccer.net-@BayouCitySoccer on Facebook, IG, and Twitter-Hit us up using our hashtag #AskBCS-Hosts:@rudysegura3 on Twitter@crisputallaz on Twitter-Again, BayouCitySoccer.net for everything!

In soccer, we don’t always win. As followers of Jesus, we don’t always have success — at least not in the ways that the world defines success. In fact, the people of God have usually been more characterized by suffering than success. Maybe that’s why Psalm 34 hits in a different way than so many other psalms. What does it look like to praise God, even after a difficult time or some particular adversity? Soccer Psalm 34 takes David’s experience of having to act insane in front of his enemies in order to escape harm and puts it into the language of a footballer. There are just some moments when we need God to intervene, because we are beside ourselves and powerless to change our situation and the outcomes. What about you and me? Can we find ways to praise God after emerging from a struggle? The Soccer Psalms, is a self-published book available on Amazon. (You can also find The Football Psalms-a British version-if you appreciate the different terms around the game). Both books are available globally on Amazon and contain 31 psalms that have been translated into “soccer psalms” — with words, language, and metaphors that connect soccer to God’s Word. I also include some reflection on the context and writing as well as some questions for reflection. Welcome back to the Bayou City Soccer Podcast! This week, the guys are joined by Leenser Thomas, aka DynaStats, to break down a busy two-game stretch for the Houston Dynamo.Houston opened the week on a high note with a midweek win over San Diego, then hit the road for a tough result against Texas rivals Austin FC. A big portion of the discussion centers on the scoring drought from two of the team's highest-paid players, DP forwards Ezequiel Ponce and Mateusz Bogusz, who have combined for just one goal and one assist through nine regular-season matches. The episode wraps up with a look ahead to the upcoming U.S. Open Cup clash against Louisville City, asking whether Houston can avoid a cup upset, and DynaStats gives his take on the best possible lineup based on current availability heading into this weekend's matchup with the Colorado Rapids.-All that and much more in this episode!-We invite you to follow us at Bayou City Soccer!-BayouCitySoccer.net-@BayouCitySoccer on Facebook, IG, and Twitter-Hit us up using our hashtag #AskBCS-Hosts:@rudysegura3 on Twitter@crisputallaz on Twitter-Again, BayouCitySoccer.net for everything!
We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, and Canadian Premier League chat. It was an emotional night at BC Place on Saturday. The Whitecaps wrapped up their last home game for three months with another win, as hundreds took part in a prematch #SaveTheCaps march. We pick over the bones of the game and look ahead to the grueling eight-game away swing the 'Caps now face before they return back home in three months time and how Jesper Sorensen might approach these games in term of squad rotation. The latter is helped by the return of Ranko Veselinovic and we chat with the Serbian centre back after he play his first game in over nine months with WFC2. We talk a lot more about the #SaveTheCaps campaign in this week's show as well, as more concerning murmurs come out around a relocation of the team to Las Vegas, and Whitecaps Brian White and Tristan Blackmon share their perspective of what it's like being a player on the team with all of this chatter around. We have three interviews with you this week as well as we catch up with three young guns. Two Whitecaps, Nikola Djordjevic, who made his first team debut last week, and Liam Mackenzie, who is lighting it up with WFC2 after his return from injury. We also catch up with former Vancouver FC player James Cameron after his move to Colorado Rapids 2. All of this plus we round up the weekend action in MLS and the CPL, move onto the letter R in our Canadian Soccer A to Z series, music-wise, Inspiral Carpets wrap up their residency as our Artists of the Month, We've Got A Fuzzbox and We're Going To Use It are the latest band to feature in our 40th anniversary tribute year to the C86 movement, and we've got a York City song in Wavelength to celebrate their dramatic return to the Football League. Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are off to a perfect start under Guillermo Hoyos, with some beautiful results overshadowing some less-than-pretty performance. Show host Franco Panizo analyzes the team's road victories over the Colorado Rapids and Real Salt Lake, dives into Hoyos' tactics after the first two matches in charge, discusses Yannick Bright's controversial suspension, previews the next game vs the New England Revolution, and more.
A deeply dull, frustrating 0-0 draw with the Colorado Rapids; one of the most boring, nerdy matches we've ever seen at BMO. No injuries, the return of Aaron Long and Stephen Eustáquio, and Hugo Lloris continuing his stint as a human brick wall are all we'd like to remember from this one. The schedule has pounded us and we played like it. Unfortunately we've got a lot of games, and big games, looking right at us in the coming days and weeks. We’re just 51 days out from the start of the World Cup! And today on the podcast, we look at Psalm 51 and the Soccer Psalm 51. Infidelity is a massive problem in soccer (and professional sport, in general) and Psalm 51 gives us a look at the confession of David after his affair and subsequent impregnation of Bathsheba had been revealed and that first son had died. David offers words and a song of repentance. Similarly, Soccer Psalm 51 acknowledges sin and the need for God’s forgiveness. Perhaps one of my favorite lines in writing The Soccer Psalms comes with the line in verse 5 “studs up, intent to injure.” David had killed one of his best and most loyal friends and warriors — Uriah. Worse than a career or season-ending injury caused by a studs up challenge, David had taken life to cover up his sin. He needed forgiveness. We need forgiveness, for our sins — and God’s the only one who can clean us from the guilt of those things. The Soccer Psalms, is a self-published book available on Amazon. (You can also find The Football Psalms-a British version-if you appreciate the different terms around the game). Psalm 139 speaks to the way that God knows us uniquely and intimately. This psalm of David speaks to the ways that God knew us before we were even born — and that there was a plan laid out of our lives. What an amazing comfort this can bring in the midst of the moments of crisis or celebration that we go through in this life. Soccer Psalm 139 mimics that same language by picturing God as a Mastermind Coach or Scout. God is one who knows the athlete — tendencies, mistakes, skills, and abilities — all of it. The athlete can take comfort that God is present and near and He sees and hears. it doesn’t matter if The Beautiful Game takes us near or far — God is with us. In the dawn of a career or in its twilight. How have you realized God’s presence in the midst of your own football journey? The Soccer Psalms, is a self-published book available on Amazon. And will Jesus Ferreira be in the starting XI for the series finale after his surprising omission in the first leg? Psalm 16 has language that resonates in a post-Resurrection Sunday time, “…you will not abandon me to the grave,…” Psalm 16 is known as a miktam — it’s like an inscription. It’s something that one recites to themselves to remind them of truths in the midst of hardship. It’s a mix of praise in the midst of an adverse situation. I wrote Soccer Psalm 16 as an appeal to God to be working on our behalf like a good agent. With God on our side and looking out for us, he can be helping us into that next situation, that next contract, that next transition. His desire for our best often produces more than what we might have ever hoped for and imagined. Is God your agent? Is he your advocate? The Soccer Psalms, is a self-published book available on Amazon. (You can also find The Football Psalms-a British version-if you appreciate the different terms around the game). Both books are available globally on Amazon and contain 31 psalms that have been translated into “soccer psalms” — with words, language, and metaphors that connect soccer to God’s Word. I also include some reflection on the context and writing as well as some questions for reflection. Just a lovely and wide ranging conversation with Colorado Rapids centerback Rob Holding. We talk about growing up with Bolton and in Manchester, his time with Arsenal, his move to MLS and his observations about the league. We also get his take on Matt Wells' tactical approach and the new-look 2026 Colorado Rapids. We also make jokes about obviously being his favorite podcast, since we're named after him. A must listen! During Holy Week, I’ve often talked about “Spy Wednesday” (Judas’ betrayal of Jesus) or occasionally about something around “Good Friday,” but today on the podcast I look at some of the events going on during “Temple Tuesday” (during a time of Jesus teaching in the temple courts). It’s in this moment that the authority of Jesus is questioned by the religious leaders of the day. And Jesus’ response to their questions is classic. We live in a day and time when authority is questioned constantly. Whether it is governments or political factions that people are rising up against or whether it’s the board chairman or president of the football club that is about to make a decision — people aren’t afraid to let their voices be heard and to rise up in protest against the “authority” of the day. Sometimes standing up to authority is right and important, but in other times and moments we are called (as followers of Jesus) to accept those who have been put in authority over us. How do we know which is which? We get into all this and more. Hello Colorado Rapids fans. On this episode of Memories From Toronto, we speak to goalkeeper Matt Pickens. Red speaks to the beard about his soccer journey that led him to Colorado Rapids. We talk about how the club assembled and established that formidable defense. Pickens gets real on Gary Smith and the club politics during that time. We then talk about that playoff run. There's the extra time and penalty shootout at Columbus Crew in the second leg. The Eastern Conference Final vs San Jose. And of course the MLS Cup Final. The freezing cold. Then it all comes crashing down. Pickens discusses how that team got broken up and how they all went their separate ways. Matt talks about his path to coaching and reuniting with Smith. The Seattle Sounders have traded midfielder Georgi Minoungou to the Colorado Rapids. In this video, we break down the full details of the deal — including the GAM and players involved — what Minoungou brought to Seattle, what this means for the Sounders roster going forward, and why Colorado made this move.Georgi Minoungou came up through Tacoma Defiance and developed into one of the most exciting dribblers in MLS. The 23-year-old Burkina Faso international tallied 2 goals and 4 assists across 32 appearances for Seattle in 2025, won the Leagues Cup, and earned 9 caps for Les Étalons — including a goal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. For the Glory KC is back with the 172nd episode of the show!Sporting Kansas City returned home and right back down to earth after picking up a win last week in Los Angeles. The Colorado Rapids, who lost to Sporting KC in both meetings last year, crushed KC in a 4-1 outcome at Sporting Park. The internet was aflame with John Pulskamp slander, so we get into how much was him and how much was others (after all, there is plenty of blame to go around). We also talked about the lineup changes (and if they were the right ones), the rash of injuries on the team and of course -- the brutal night of officiating from Fotis Bazakos. After the game, Jake Davis pulled me aside in the locker room with a message for the fans, so Sheena and I talk through our thoughts on his words.Outside of the game, Sporting KC had other things going on in the week, including the addition of Brazilian center back Diego Borges as their newest (and David Lee's first) U22 Initiative signing. Plus, there was a spattering of other news around the team, including their games being aired for free over the air on tape delay. To make matters worse, the KC Current also lost this weekend. That's something that only happened three times during the entire 2025 NWSL regular season and it's already happened just two games into the 2026 season. To make matters worse, it was against the Mallory Swanson-less Chicago Stars, who had just gotten shellacked 4-0 the week prior. I break down what I saw from that game.In the Digital Crawl, we hit on a few more topics, including:KC Comets making the playoffs!SKC II win a shootout but then lose the next gameMLS 2026 playoffs and 2027 schedule formats revealedAnd Antoine Griezman and Catarina Macaro are coming to MLS and NWSL respectivelyHere is a rundown of sections and start times:Sporting KC - 10:06KC Current - 1:01:46Digital Crawl - 1:15:09Upcoming GamesKC Current @ Seattle Reign - WED, March 25 at 8:00PM CTSKC II vs. St. Louis City 2 - SAT, March 28 at 2:00PMUSMNT vs Belgium - SAT, March 28 at 2:30PMKC Current @ Portland Thorns - SAT, March 28 at 3:00PM As a special gift to For the Glory KC listeners and KC Soccer Journal readers, Backheeled.com is giving away 30 days of their amazing, independent American soccer coverage for free. Talles Magno’s Moment NYCFC faced their toughest challenge to date in 2026 with the Colorado Rapids coming to Yankee Stadium last Saturday. While the Rapids failed to capitalize on their sustained possession, they still proved to be a strong opponent both with their intense press and their defensive rotations. It would be a Nico Fernandez Mercau brace that put NYCFC in the winning position, but the goal of the night was the Talles Magno icing on the cake that sealed the victory in the 85th minute. This week Mike Anderer and J.R. diBart welcome Christian Smith to talk about NYCFC Legends and the game from the weekend.
Hello Colorado Rapids fans. This week on Holding The High Line, it is Saint Patrick's Day. Red gets a bit independent against the English. Sorry, not sorry. We banter about the USMNT Word Cup kits. We also discuss the MLS Cup Playoffs schedule and the MLS Cup Final being moved to a Friday. The guys also discuss why no Colorado Rapids player, past or present, is making the World Cup other than Auston Trusty and Moïse Bombito. Rabbi and Red recap the 3-1 loss to New York City FC. How much of this game came down to the small pitch at Yankees Stadium? How good was Darren Yapi? And what do we make of the team still trying to play out of the back? Then we turn to Saturday's game against Sporting KC. Calvin Harris will play his first match against his former club. What do we make of SKC's season so far and their small roster? How should we judge this game given the state of them, the Rapids, and the fact that Colorado lost both games to them last year? We discuss. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Psalm 90 has one of my favorite phrases and prayers which encapsulates these words of Moses to God — “establish the work of our hands, yes establish the work of our hands.” But in football (soccer) it’s the feet that get used most — so does God establish the work of our feet? Sure, I believe He does. He’s the one who sets out the cones, He marks the lines. I wrote Soccer Psalm 90 so that athletes in soccer can realize that we have a certain degree of frailty. Many times when we are young, athletic — we can feel invincible, we can feel unbreakable. That is, until we break. Our first injury might seem minor or it might be major, but it reminds us that we are dependent — upon others (doctors, physios, and more) and upon God. God can help us steward our lives, our careers if we will but let Him. He will show us where to go and open certain doors that might have been previously closed off to us. We should invite Him into these aspects of our lives — more on this in this week’s podcast. The Soccer Psalms, is a self-published book available on Amazon. (You can also find The Football Psalms-a British version-if you appreciate the different terms around the game). Psalm 91 speaks to the protection that God offers his people. He is the shelter, the refuge, the fortress where people can go and be safe from the different threats that abound. Soccer Psalm 91 is about how God protects the athlete, the player. Injuries — physical, spiritual, and mental — abound in the beautiful game. Some happen with malicious intent from other people. Others occur as a result of the physicality of the game. I wrote Soccer Psalm 91 so that athletes in soccer can realize Whom to place their hope and dependence and trust in. God has our back. He loves us. He is our defense. We don’t suffer from injury like others — it’s not to say we don’t get hurt or injured, but we are able to see purpose and meaning in the midst of it. We are able to understand that we are loved and covered by God even in the midst of the storm. Enjoy this soccer psalm for this week’s podcast.
