RC reviews evidence for nanodiamonds in the Oklahoma Panhandle, with a hint at a more recent and local impact event, and in the eastern margin of the Greenland Ice Sheet. Can nanodiamonds be produced terrestrially? A chart of the Volcanic Explosivity Index leads RC to talk about ash from Mount St. Helens that has been found and dated within the Scablands floods’ rhythmites, and how those were the basis for the theories of repeated Lake Missoula dam-break outburst floods. Then we get into the just-released paper that links the micro-proxies to volcanic eruptions and credits coincident endogenic processes for the Younger Dryas cooling episode, and because the authors do nothing to negate or refute the evidence for a YDB impact, they have a long way to go to prove their case and extrapolate the evidence from Hall’s Cave to the entire planet. Randall introduces the most comprehensive paper detailing the findings of nanodiamonds at 24 sites in ten countries across three continents, and then reverts to a 2008 contribution that sought to slam the YDIH as soon as it was presented, noting the odd timing, fallacy-filled arguments and weak statements, but also giving credit for a few things these critics got correct in their paper. We’d like to show them some “spectacular evidence” in the Scablands and prove to them that cosmic “Frankenstein” monsters are very real! More nano-diamond evidence is shared from findings in the Greenland ice sheet and Oklahoma Panhandle as we attempt to nail the coffin of the nay-sayers... On New Year’s Eve, prior to a new decade 2020, RC recounts some previous missed predictions of catastrophe and the morals from the “Boy who Cried Wolf” story. Then digging into some scientific papers that reveal evidence for the Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis including the “black mat” and hexagonal nano-diamonds, he speculates with the authors on what kind of event(s) could produce these unique markers of catastrophe. Randall also reveals his vision of what may be the culprit for repeated catastrophes, and especially most recently the Younger Dryas Boundary events, then gets into the details of a couple of the early papers in support of the YDIH – from Hall’s Cave, Texas, and Santa Rosa of the Channel Islands off the coast of southern California, which were all one landmass with the Ice Age lowered sea level. In addition to mammoths, abundant impact proxies, and flood sediments, they found bones from a female that may have perished in the catastrophe… Donate to this work thru our Patreon subscription/membership sites, and receive special perks: https://patreon.com/RandallCarlson and https://patreon.com/geocosmicrex Watch the series in sequence to get all the evidence presented as Randall builds his case: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list... Feature Guest: Jane Greaves Remember that nursery rhyme, “Up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky?” Well they were on to something, because it turns out diamonds - albeit nanodiamonds - are ubiquitous across the Milky Way galaxy. So-called diamond dust is even here in our own solar system. Today we’re joined at The Star Spot by Professor Jane Greaves, whose team made the discovery that unexpectedly solved a long standing astronomical mystery. Current in Space Simon explains a tantalizing find: 30 binary stars that have somehow been ejected from their home galaxies! Then Amelia and Tony report on a bizarre discovery: a star that's apparently the merger between two white dwarfs! About Our Guest Jane Greaves is Professor of Astronomer at Cardiff University in Wales. She is the recipient of the 2017 Fred Hoyle Medal from the Institute of Physics of London. In 2008 her team took the first direct image of a proto-brown dwarf candidate. Greaves uses textile art to communicate her passion for astrophysics with the public.
In this bonus episode of Eavesdrop on Experts, our reporter Dr Andi Horvath ventures into the misunderstood world of quantum physics and, specifically, quantum sensing. While the discussion about “spooky” quantum phenomena like Schrödinger’s famous cat is about a hundred years old, there’s a revolution coming in quantum sensing. Quantum sensors exploit of the quantum mechanical behaviour of atoms or ions to measure physical quantities such as frequency, acceleration, rotation rates, electric and magnetic fields, or temperature with the absolute accuracy. The sensors use properties (like entanglement) to achieve measurements beyond the reach of traditional systems, and are currently are used in devices like atomic clocks and magnetometers. And while sensors like this have been around for at least a decade, the new generation of quantum sensors are making major advances with real-world impact. Episode recorded: March 27, 2018. Interviewer: Dr Andi Horvath. Audio engineering: Arch Cuthbertson. Production: Chris Hatzis, Dr Andi Horvath and Silvi Vann-Wall. Editor: Chris Hatzis. Today we talk with Jens Notroff from the Gobekli Tepe research project about the recent news stories about possible evidence for a comet strike at the ancient site. We look over the claims made in the paper 'DECODING GÖBEKLI TEPE WITH ARCHAEOASTRONOMY: WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY?' and compare that with ongoing research from the actual Gobekli Tepe site.
