Today on Uncommon Sense, we're discussing what may be the most consequential political moment of Donald Trump's career. With Trump's approval ratings slipping, the Iran conflict escalating, renewed questions surrounding the Epstein files, and the assassination of Charlie Kirk continuing to reverberate through the conservative movement, many Americans are asking whether these events are isolated, or part of a much larger story. In this episode, I examine the connections I believe may exist between these developments, including my view that the Epstein files may have been used as leverage against powerful political figures and that foreign interests have exerted significant influence over American policy in the Middle East. We'll discuss:Trump's declining support among his baseThe growing controversy surrounding U.S. involvement with IranThe unanswered questions surrounding the Epstein filesThe political impact of Charlie Kirk's assassination and its aftermathWhy I believe these stories intersect in ways the mainstream media refuses to exploreMy goal is not to tell you what to think, but to encourage you to question narratives, follow incentives, and examine who benefits from the decisions being made in Washington.--https://www.bible.com/
Grab your pastel shorts and a cold drink because Chad is broadcasting live from Portugal, celebrating his birthday alongside a local bar owner while Joel prepares for a milestone anniversary trip to Italy. In this high-energy, unfiltered episode of The Chad & Cheese Podcast, the boys take a sledgehammer to the current AI hype cycle, contrasting Workday's massive earnings and $500 million agentic AI run rate against the harsh reality of Microsoft and Uber scaling back their tech due to exploding compute costs. From Stepstone's new EU compliance push to Indeed's automated features, Chad drops a massive hot take on how over-engineered recruiting tools create dangerous compliance risks and automation bias. They tie up the loose ends of the global economy by breaking down everything from the historic Indy 500 finish and a comedic eulogy for Schlitz beer, to the Pope's latest tech warnings and the EU's pivot to renewable energy as a national security weapon. In Episode 292 of Gyan Ganga, Dr Subramanian Swamy and an expert panel dive into the seismic shift in India's public perception driven by the digital revolution. As traditional print and television media face a "zero reliability" crisis, a new, impatient generation—Gen Z—is bypassing mainstream gatekeepers to voice raw, unfiltered dissent. From the viral, satirical "Cockroach Janta Party" movement to the social-media-led political surge of actor Vijay in Tamil Nadu, this episode explores how digital platforms have become the primary outlet for youth frustration over systemic failures like unemployment, the NEET exam leaks, and a perceived lack of upward mobility. The discussion also tackles the darker side of this trend, examining how "IT cells" and misinformation can polarise society.Significantly, the panel highlights Dr Swamy's role as a true visionary in this field. Long before social media became a political staple, Dr Swamy was a pioneer in the digital space, having organized India's first national Tweeters' conference in Bangalore on 25 December 2011.Tune in to discover why the establishment can no longer ignore the "pulse of the people" on their screens and whether social media is truly "here to stay" as the ultimate tool for political change.

In recognition of Older Americans Month, this episode of the Research Insights Podcast revisits "Public Perception of Longevity and its Drivers." As Americans live longer, perceptions of longevity play an important role in shaping retirement planning, financial preparedness, and long-term security. This episode explores how individuals think about life expectancy, what influences those beliefs, and why those perceptions matter for individuals, families, employers, and public programs. Understanding longevity is more than tracking a demographic trend—it informs how we prepare for retirement, health needs, and financial resilience across decades. Listen now to revisit this timely conversation during Older Americans Month and beyond.
Alina Voss from NX Atomics stops by the Energy News Beat PodcastThe title “The Math Ain't Mathing: Why America Needs Nuclear Now” was derived from a comment Alina made on the podcast. I was very impressed, and as we talked, she made some great points. I am going to follow up with her company and introduce them to some folks. We need to have more nuclear reactors online tomorrow, and we need real solutions.1. Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and NX AtomicsThe core focus of the conversation centers on NX Atomics' development of small modular nuclear reactors. Key points include:NX Atomics aims to produce the cheapest SMRs on the market (targeting $20 per megawatt hour vs. $90 for traditional Gen 3 reactors)They're targeting a prototype by 2030 and first-of-a-kind deployment in the early 2030sThe company employs German nuclear engineers with 10-15 years of research backgroundThey're using innovative 3D metal printing technology to manufacture reactor components more efficiently and affordably2. Data Centers and Energy DemandA significant discussion about the explosive growth of data centers and their energy requirements:Data centers are increasingly competing with farmland for space in the MidwestTexas ERCOT has 220 gigawatts of applications for new data center power, but only 54 gigawatts of peak capacityData centers are using eminent domain to acquire land, displacing long-time residentsSMRs and data centers are positioned as complementary solutions (”go together like PB&J”)3. Nuclear Energy's Public Perception and MarketingAlina discusses the challenge of rebranding nuclear energy:Older generations associate nuclear with bombs and warGen X often thinks of disasters (Three Mile Island, Fukushima, Chernobyl)Younger generations, especially men, are more pro-nuclearLiving near a nuclear plant exposes you to less radiation than eating a banana annuallyNuclear plants have high approval ratings among nearby residents4. Energy Policy and SubsidiesCritical examination of current U.S. energy policies:Wind and solar have been artificially inflated by subsidies and can't compete on their own meritsWind turbines last only 8 years; solar panels last ~15 years and 95% end up in landfillsThe farm bill subsidizes ethanol, which is counterproductive (takes more energy to produce than it yields)Ethanol damages vehicles and reduces fuel efficiency by ~4 miles per gallonThe need to reform subsidies to support more sustainable, long-term energy solutions5. Global Energy Competition and ChinaDiscussion of geopolitical energy dynamics:China is rapidly expanding nuclear capacity (50+ reactors with 20+ more planned)The U.S. has 94 reactors and is falling behindIP theft and supply chain vulnerabilities are critical concernsEnergy independence and dominance are central to future global competitivenessSecretary Chris Wright's pro-nuclear stance is seen as crucial for U.S. energy policy6. Transmission Infrastructure and Grid ChallengesThe underlying infrastructure problem:Aging transmission infrastructure is a bottleneck for moving power from generation to demandThis is a bigger issue than just generation capacitySMRs offer distributed generation that can bypass some transmission challenges7. Regenerative Agriculture and Land UseBrief but important discussion about sustainable farming:Current agricultural policies favor monoculture corn production with heavy chemical inputsRegenerative agriculture and sustainable land management are better for both economics and healthThe tension between subsidizing farmland for food vs. for energy productionWe are seeing that Data Centers, AI, Wind, Solar, and Agriculture are more closely aligned than you can imagine. Land and water grabs are ongoing in the U.S., and they are second only to the political corruption we are seeing in our systems. We covered the Levelized Cost of Energy and the importance of its design. I loved the fact that they are 3D printing and getting the system designed faster rather than laterCheck out their website: https://www.nxatomics.com/Connect with Alina on her LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/alinavoss/It would be fun to get Alina and Grace Vanderhei (Stankie), who was on the podcast as a former Miss America and a nuclear engineer, together to discuss the future of nuclear. This week, I reached out to John Rich to get him on the podcast. While it is a long shot, we need all of the air cover we can get to protect our farmers, farmland, and people's homes from the Wild West of Data centers being overrun by eminent domain on people's homes and farms. We need more future leaders and companies like Alina and NX Atomics.Check out the Energy News Beat SubStack https://theenergynewsbeat.substack.com/A shout-out to Steve Reese and the Reese Energy Consulting group for sponsoring the Podcast https://reeseenergyconsulting.com/.Data2 if you have any business systems, can you trust A? “The Transmitter is trying to cover the whole waterfront…”Kristin Ozelli is the Executive Editor of The Transmitter, a neuroscience publication supported by the Simons Foundation that launched in 2023. In this conversation, Peter and Kristin explore what makes The Transmitter tick. At its heart, the publication is driven by a conviction that neuroscience is most powerful when its many scales, modalities, and subfields are in conversation with each other, and that good science journalism can provide the intellectual scaffolding to make that happen. They discuss the editorial process behind the scenes, from morning story meetings and house style guides to multiple rounds of editing, and how scientist-written essays are helping fill the void left by the decline of science Twitter. The conversation also touches on The Transmitter's ambitious State of Neuroscience mapping project, the ongoing tension between a fragmenting field and the hunger for greater integration, and what it means to portray science as a genuinely human endeavor. They close with thoughts on AI in science writing, exciting new tools and resources coming to the site, and how publications like The Transmitter might help rebuild trust between scientists and a skeptical public. We hope you enjoy this episode!Chapters:00:00 - Introduction to the Transmitter and Its Mission05:49 - Kristin Ozelli's Journey to Neuroscience Journalism08:29 - The Transmitter's History and Evolution11:03 - Finding the Sweet Spot in Neuroscience Communication16:19 - Mapping Neuroscience: The State of Neuroscience Project23:22 - Engaging the OHBM Community and Beyond30:07 - The Evolution of Scientific Communication33:45 - Public Perception of Science40:22 - Future Directions for Transmitter47:15 - The Role of AI in JournalismResources:14:20 - The State of Neuroscience https://www.thetransmitter.org/state-of-neuroscience-report-2025/Episode producers:Karthik Sama, Xuqian Michelle Li

Debt and deficits used to be political dealbreakers. So why don't they seem to matter anymore? In this episode, Gene Tunny explores the concept of fiscal illusion with John Humphreys and Professor Sinclair Davidson. They examine whether Australia is “sleepwalking” into a more precarious fiscal position, and what could happen if a crisis hits. A thought-provoking discussion on debt, accountability, and economic literacy. Sinclair Davidson is Professor of Institutional Economics in the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing at RMIT University. John Humphreys is Chief Economist at the Australian Taxpayers' Alliance. Gene would love to hear your thoughts on this episode. You can email him via contact@economicsexplored.com. Takeaways Governments use various budget measures that can obscure the true fiscal position (“fiscal illusion”). Off-budget spending and government “investments” may not appear in key budget figures, even when they worsen debt. Growth in national debt may be the clearest indicator of underlying fiscal reality. Public attitudes toward debt and deficits have softened, reducing political pressure for fiscal discipline. Debt may not be an immediate crisis, but it represents a slow-burning risk that could become serious over time. Meghan and Harry have left Australia after just four days, but the conversation around their visit is far from over. What was meant to be a relatively low-key series of appearances — school visits, community events, and a speaking engagement — has instead turned into another round of global headlines. From claims about how the trip was funded to criticism of Meghan's Besties Retreat appearance, the narrative overseas has been loud, divided, and very familiar. Plus, Coachella Weekend Two delivered its own chaos — Sabrina Carpenter bringing out Madonna in a surprise moment that we won't be getting over any time soon, Billie Eilish getting pulled on stage for an emotional Belieber moment, and a bigger conversation about whether festival crowds are actually… participating anymore. Send us Fan MailExploring whether nonprofits should pay taxes on business income, examining how revenue sources, competition, and policy gaps are reshaping the sector's financial landscape.Nonprofit tax exemption business income is becoming one of the most important—and controversial—issues facing the sector today. As nonprofits generate more revenue through business-like activities, the question is no longer theoretical: should some of that income be taxed? In this eye-opening conversation, Scott Hodge of Arnold Ventures joins The Nonprofit Show to examine how nonprofit revenue models have evolved—and where the current tax framework may no longer align with reality. The nonprofit sector now represents $3.6 trillion in total revenue, with approximately $2.8 trillion coming from business-related activities. Yet much of this income remains untaxed. As Scott explains, “We have this enormous… gap in the tax code so that these businesses that are now nonprofits are not paying any tax on their business income.”This raises real operational and strategic questions for nonprofit leaders. When organizations generate revenue through sponsorships, services, or large-scale operations, where is the line between mission-driven funding and commercial activity? The discussion also revisits the intent behind the Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) and why it may no longer capture the realities of today's nonprofit economy. “UBIT has been made so full of holes that it doesn't capture very much income at all,” Scott notes. At the same time, the conversation carefully distinguishes between truly charitable organizations—those driven primarily by donations—and large-scale entities operating with minimal philanthropic income. This distinction matters, especially as nonprofits compete not only with for-profit businesses but also with each other for limited donor dollars. For nonprofit executives, finance leaders, and board members, this episode offers a critical lens on:Revenue strategy and risk exposurePolicy shifts that could impact operationsThe long-term sustainability of tax-exempt statusThis isn't about weakening the sector—it's about understanding how definitions, funding models, and accountability may evolve in the years ahead. 00:00:00 Introduction: Should Nonprofits Pay Taxes? 00:01:20 The Scale of the Nonprofit Economy 00:04:30 What Counts as “Business Income”? 00:06:45 Real Examples: NCAA, AARP, Hospitals 00:09:20 Understanding UBIT and Its Limitations 00:12:00 Nonprofit Survival vs Business Activity 00:14:10 Defining True Charity vs Commercial Operations 00:16:00 Where Large Nonprofits Blur the Lines 00:20:00 Sector Pressure and Public Perception 00:22:30 Why Policy Change Has Stalled 00:24:00 What Could Trigger Reform? 00:26:00 Final Thoughts: Protecting True Charitable Work #TheNonprofitShow #NonprofitTaxation #NonprofitFinanceFind us Live daily on YouTube!Find us Live daily on LinkedIn!Find us Live daily on X: @Nonprofit_ShowOur national co-hosts and amazing guests discuss management, money and missions of nonprofits! 12:30pm ET 11:30am CT 10:30am MT 9:30am PTSend us your ideas for Show Guests or Topics: HelpDesk@AmericanNonprofitAcademy.comVisit us on the web:The Nonprofit Show

In this episode, Chris breaks down the reality of crime, corruption, and violence in the islands, where homicide rates have historically reached around 50 per 100,000 people—several times higher than the U.S. average . He shares what it was like leading law enforcement in one of the most challenging environments in the country, dealing with constant threats against his life, internal corruption, and the pressure of trying to control rising violence. Chris also opens up about the moment it all came to a head when he was shot in a near-fatal attack that ultimately ended his career. _____________________________________________ #Cops #PoliceChief #TrueCrime #Violence #CrimeStory #LawEnforcement #LockedInPodcast #realstories _____________________________________________ Watch part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atbgH6Ypvas _____________________________________________ Connect with Chris Howell: Email: howellvipd@gmail.com _____________________________________________ Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ _____________________________________________ Shop Locked In Merch: http://www.ianbick.com/shop _____________________________________________ Timestamps: 00:00 Shot in the Line of Duty (Full Story) 00:19 Meet Chris Howell: Police Chief Background 01:00 Becoming Police Chief in the Virgin Islands 02:21 Corruption Inside the Department 04:30 First Days as Deputy Chief 06:01 Extreme Homicide Rate in the Virgin Islands 10:54 Baptism by Fire as Police Chief 11:24 Crisis Mode: Press Conference & Early Challenges 12:44 Building Trust & Finding His Role 14:40 High-Profile Cases & Major Investigations 17:04 Broken Evidence Room & System Failures 19:19 Destroying Illegal Firearms & Cleaning House 21:41 Building a Police Task Force Team 23:23 Recruitment Struggles & Key Officers 26:40 Street Operations & Crime Crackdowns 28:31 Domestic Violence Calls & Frontline Policing 32:42 Broken Windows Policing Strategy 36:20 Public Perception & Community Response 38:50 Human Trafficking Sting Operation 41:40 Police Corruption & Internal Investigations 45:47 Living Under Threat as Police Chief 51:16 Conversations with Drug Traffickers 53:11 Violence & Homicide Culture Explained 01:01:20 Crime Reduction Strategies & Leadership 01:12:30 Running the Department & Frustrations 01:20:00 Internal Enemies & Paranoia in Leadership 01:26:21 Cold Case: Fallen Officer Investigation 01:38:41 Major Drug Raid & Takedown 01:46:18 Trauma Training & Real Police Work 01:53:32 Losing Officers & Ongoing Violence 01:58:39 Corrupt Officers Exposed 02:01:44 Crime Wave & Rising Violence 02:07:36 Robberies & Escalating Danger 02:13:42 The Night He Was Shot (Play-by-Play) 02:27:54 Surviving the Shooting & Recovery 02:35:14 Rehab & Life After Being Shot 02:44:07 Ironman Comeback Story 02:50:05 Justice System Failures & Aftermath 02:56:12 Leadership Lessons & No Regrets 02:57:40 Final Thoughts on Policing & Corruption To advertise on the show, contact sales@advertisecast.com or visit https://advertising.libsyn.com/LockedInWithIanBicka Learn more about your ad choices. Announcement! Behind the Wall is Live! https://www.patreon.com/ThePrisonOfficerSilence doesn't stay empty for long. When correctional agencies refuse to talk about what happens behind the wall, someone else will gladly explain it for us, and they'll usually pick the most extreme version. From the ILEETA conference, I take one simple line, “nature abhors a vacuum,” and apply it to one of the biggest challenges in corrections: who controls the narrative of prison life, jail incidents, and use of force. We get specific about what the public rarely sees. A 30-second YouTube clip won't show the hours of de-escalation that happened before a cell extraction. A headline counting jail deaths may skip the cause, the medical response, and the reality that correctional officers perform CPR, cut people down, and intervene in violence far more than outsiders assume. In a world of doom scrolling and sensationalism, partial facts become “truth” fast, especially when movies, scripted TV, and even inmate podcasts fill in the blanks. We also push back on the idea that this is just a PR issue. Our goal is light, not spin. That means sharing real context, owning mistakes when they happen, and inviting the people who shape policy to see the real environment: legislators, judges, and community leaders taking honest tours, not staged walkthroughs. If we want smarter conversations about public safety, accountability, and prison reform, we have to start with accurate information.Subscribe to the Prison Officer Podcast, share this with someone who thinks they already know what prison is like, and leave a review with the biggest myth you want corrected.Send us Fan Mail Support the showAlso, check out Michael's newest book - POWER SKILLS: Emotional Intelligence and Soft Skills for Correctional Officers, First Responders, and Beyond https://amzn.to/4mBeog5See Michael's newest Children's Books here: www.CantrellWrites.comSupport the show=======================Support the mission and go deeper with The Prison Officer Podcast on Patreon. In this episode of Longevity by Design, host Dr. Gil Blander sits down with Dr. Uri Alon, Professor at Weizmann Institute of Science. They explore a systems view of aging that treats longevity as a solvable model, not a grab bag of disconnected theories.Uri explains aging with a simple story: houses make garbage, trucks remove it, and the village has a threshold for how much damage it can handle. In the body, “garbage” can include damaged and senescent cells, “trucks” can include immune cleanup, and “houses” can include long-lived cells and stem cells that drift over time. The model links this balance to death, disease, and steady decline, and it helps predict which interventions actually change it.They also revisit the role of genes. Uri argues that lifespan looks closer to 50% heritable today after correcting for early, non-aging deaths in older datasets. The rest comes from the environment and biological noise, which regular sleep may help reduce.Guest-at-a-Glance
Patrick Tuohey from the Show Me Institute discusses a new study analyzing St. Louis crime trends and public perception. He highlights that while homicide and major crime rates have generally declined, media coverage and environmental factors distort residents' sense of safety. Tuohey explores the role of police visibility, neighborhood upkeep, prosecutorial changes, and the Ferguson effect on policing, emphasizing that improvements in clearance rates and overall public safety are positive signs, even as challenges remain. In this March 25 episode of Badlands Daily, CannCon and Ashe in America examine how coordinated political pressure and narrative alignment are shaping public perception in real time. The discussion focuses on how messaging from institutions, media, and political actors appears to move in sync, creating momentum around specific viewpoints while sidelining others. They break down how these pressure campaigns influence both public opinion and decision making, highlighting how quickly narratives can consolidate and then shift when needed. The conversation also explores the role of repetition, timing, and amplification in driving these narratives into the mainstream. Throughout the episode, CannCon and Ashe stress the importance of recognizing these patterns, questioning the origin of widely repeated claims, and avoiding passive acceptance of rapidly forming consensus. The focus remains on understanding how perception is guided rather than organically formed.
Ep. 181 – Opera, Ballet, and Public Perception This week our hosts dive into the discussion around the comments of Timothee Chalamet. They question the relevance of some of the traditional arts like opera and ballet to the overall general public. They further question in what ways those classic art forms can gain more relevance to the general populous. In Part 2 of my conversation with Stacy M., we continue pulling back the curtain on Freemasonry and examining the questions most people are told not to ask.If the organization is simply a harmless fraternity, why so much secrecy? Why the elaborate rituals, layered symbolism, and strict oaths? And why have so many influential leaders throughout history been tied to it?In this episode, we dig deeper into the structure of Freemasonry, the meaning behind its rituals and symbols, and the concerns many Christians and researchers have raised about its spiritual and cultural influence. We also discuss why criticism of the organization is often quickly dismissed—and why that reaction alone should make people more curious, not less. This conversation isn't about sensationalism. It's about discernment. When powerful institutions operate largely out of public view yet intersect with leadership, culture, and faith, they deserve thoughtful examination. The goal isn't to tell people what to think, but to encourage them to start asking questions for themselves.--https://www.youversion.com/bible-app

DHS Shutdown, SAVE Act, and FISA abuses expose a political class that is either lying or completely incompetent. This episode breaks down what politicians say versus how government actually works. When the rhetoric is stripped away, the reality is clear. From the DHS shutdown and ICE policy demands to the SAVE Act debate and FISA reauthorization, today's political leaders continue to push narratives that collapse under basic scrutiny. We also look at the collapse of New York governance as a case study in what happens when this incompetence takes hold. This episode connects the dots and reveals how both parties contribute to a system that misleads the American people. What You'll Learn Why the DHS shutdown and new ICE demands amount to a "silent amnesty" and expose flawed policy thinking. How the SAVE Act is being misrepresented despite overwhelming public support for voter ID across all demographics. The truth about FISA Section 702 abuse and how surveillance powers have been weaponized against Americans. The New York Exodus: Why Kathy Hochul's "Get Out" leadership is leading to a fiscal disaster. How political messaging ignores federalism, legal realities, and basic cause and effect. This is a must-listen breakdown of government incompetence, political deception, and the growing disconnect between leaders and the people they serve.
When we talk about domestic violence, we usually picture a male abuser and a female victim, but what about the cases that don't fit that narrative? Reality TV star Taylor Frankie Paul's season of "The Bachelorette" got yanked after an absolutely horrid video dropped of her abusing her male partner and their kid. How often does female-on-male abuse actually happen, and why don't we hear about it? Are male victims taken seriously, or do stigma and stereotypes keep them silent? If a man says he's being abused, how do you react? Do you believe him, or does something about that still feel hard to accept? Leah M. Forney, "The Culture Doctor," joins Ian Hoch to have a serious discussion of gender roles in the perception of domestic abuse.

Headline: Smear Tactics and Public Perception Guest Author: James Shapiro The DICE committee's investigation was fueled by testimony from Hazel Huffman, a disgruntled former clerk who claimed the project was tainted by communism based on play titles alone. Huffman's unverified accusations were widely publicized by a hostile press, swaying public opinion against the arts. Although Huffman had limited knowledge of the program, Martin Dies denied Flanagan the chance to cross-examineher, breaking standard congressional protocols. This era established a political "playbook" for attacking cultural organizations by framing progressive ideas as foreign threats, a tactic that continues today. (7)

Today on Uncommon Sense, I'm joined by Stacy M. for a conversation that too many people are afraid (or unwilling) to have. We're discussing Freemasonry: what it is, what it claims to be, and the darker, more sinister elements that often get brushed aside or ignored entirely. From secrecy and symbolism to influence and power, we're asking the questions that rarely get real answers. Why has this secret society maintained such a strong presence for so long? Why does it seem to intersect so frequently with positions of power—including within our own government? And most importantly… why aren't more people talking about it?This episode isn't about blind accusations, it's about awareness. If something holds influence, operates behind closed doors, and shapes culture or leadership in any capacity, it deserves scrutiny. It's time to start paying attention and asking better questions.--https://www.youversion.com/bible-app
What happened to the Ark of the Covenant—and why does it still capture the imagination of both scholars and the public? In this episode, Dru Johnson speaks with archaeologist Dr. Chris McKinny about his documentary Legends of the Lost Ark and the enduring mystery surrounding Israel's most sacred object. McKinny explains that while many assume the Ark was destroyed in the Babylonian invasion, the biblical text never explicitly says so—leaving open a range of historical and legendary possibilities. The conversation explores why popular imagination is often shaped by pseudo-archaeology, conspiracy theories, and figures like Ron Wyatt, whose claims continue to influence public perception despite lacking credible evidence. McKinny distinguishes between serious archaeological inquiry and what he calls “religious pseudo-archaeology,” which often exploits faith for sensational claims. At the same time, he argues that dismissing the Ark entirely misses something essential. In Scripture, the Ark is not just an artifact but the symbolic center of God's presence—what he calls the “beating heart” of Israel's story. Its disappearance after the First Temple period becomes a theological problem as much as a historical one. Ultimately, this episode invites listeners to think more carefully about evidence, tradition, and the role of the supernatural in both ancient texts and modern faith. What if your first real job at 20—walking onto a men's medium-security yard—became the foundation for a lifetime of leadership, policy savvy, and humanitarian impact? That's Judi Simon Garrett's story, and it upends a lot of what people think they know about prisons, “solitary,” and the people who run complex systems under pressure.Judi explains why training that centers presence, words, and posture mattered more than keys and cuffs, and how overtime on the toughest posts built credibility that no title could. Judi breaks down the myths around solitary confinement, reframing it as restrictive housing with services, checks, and human contact. The leap is from prison to a more controlled prison—not from a living room to a dark cell—and sometimes that move protects both staff and the individual. We talk about safety, suicide prevention, and the hard truth that a few people cannot safely live in groups. Then we pull back to language and policy: why lumping everyone in custody under one gentle label hides critical differences, how rehabilitation is a door people must choose to walk through, and why measuring systems only by recidivism misses the point. We also honor the Bureau of Prisons legacy—from Sanford Bates to modern growth—highlighting professional culture, continuity of leadership, and a mission that kept programs alive even as populations surged. Judi shares candid leadership lessons: humility over ego, influence over authority, context over commands. Finally, we pivot to her current work leading aid for Jewish communities in Ukraine, where logistics, transparency, and storytelling now deliver food, medicine, and care to tens of thousands. It's a full-circle look at service: macro policy that keeps people safe and micro moments where one family gets the help they need.If this conversation challenged your assumptions or gave you a clearer view of corrections and leadership, share it with a friend, subscribe for more thoughtful episodes, and leave a review to hSend us Fan Mail PepperBallFrom crowd control to cell extractions, the PepperBall system is the safe, non-lethal option.Command PresenceBringing prisons and jails the training they deserve!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. How technocracy replaced burning books with programmable compliance — and why your ability to think, speak, and dissent is now the primary target. In this raw, unfiltered Technocracy Roundtable, I'm joined by Patrick Wood, Aaron Day, and Craig Wenclewicz to expose how the war on free speech has evolved from crude deplatforming and visible strikes into something far more dangerous: an invisible, AI-driven operating system designed to control what you think, say, and believe. We map the full control stack in real time — from algorithmic throttling and shadow banning, to conversational AI that permanently rewires political beliefs, cohort targeting, bot swarms, deepfakes, debanking, the UN Global Digital Compact, and the Brussels Effect that routes around the First Amendment. This isn't theory. This is the operating system already running the digital world. We also lay out real parallel systems and local action steps you can take right now to preserve sovereign voice before the window closes. From December's Row Crop Short Course in Starkville, Tom and Jason are joined by John Byrd of Mississippi State University Extension and Eric Prostko of the University of Georgia to unpack common misconceptions, public concerns, and the communication challenges facing today's agricultural professionals.
