(Nahum 1:1-15) Nahum is writing to a downtrodden, disoriented, and despairing people. God's people have been victims of oppression for almost a century by the Assyrian empire. The question they were asking was, “Is God present? Is God strong? Will He save us?” Nahum's response is He is strong and He will save them and Nahum reinforces this truth by pointing them to God's power, God's jealousy, and God's salvation. Nahum teaches that not only is God strong, but He's also good. And because He is these things, we can be confident that no matter what we face, God will be faithful to save us.

Christianity doesn't leave us to face death alone. Instead, it gives us a Champion who has defeated death, and who pardons and covers us with His love.” - @andrejosiah At our Resurrection Sunday service, Pastor Andre concluded our series on the Seven "I Am"s of Jesus - with a sharing on Jesus as the Resurrection and the Life. Many of us fear death, and are reluctant to face our own mortality. We find it hard to comprehend a life beyond this present world, and think that this is all we will ever experience and enjoy. However, as we reflect on Jesus' death and resurrection, we are reminded that our Saviour has conquered death for us. Because He is risen, we are raised to new life in Him. We can now have hope, even through loss, and can live with resurrection courage because nothing, not even death, can separate us from the love of God. Christ is risen. He is risen, indeed!

Nehemiah 12 highlights the importance of our worship gathering. Our Sunday services are not meaningful because we gather but what makes it meaningful is the reason that we are gathered for. The people of God have gathered to celebrate the goodness and faithfulness of God, similarly that's why we 21st century people of God gather together too. The difference is that we have a greater reason than our ancient predecessors. We are not motivated by a finished wall, but by the finished work of Christ.

Ánimo, Hermano – Pastor Andrés Gómez by Iglesia Bautista Bíblica de Long Beach
Every Christian family must be part of a church, and healthy families are part of what make healthy churches. But the church member who has been part of a body for 30 or 40 years is increasingly rare in our day. What is it to be a good church member? What contributes to the longevity of both churches and members? How should we view the church and those within its walls? Kevin Swanson, Scott Brown, and Pastor Andre discuss these and other questions on this edition of the program. This program includes: 1. The World View in 5 Minutes with Adam McManus (Matt Gaetz withdraws, Biden secretly awards Planned Parenthood leader, Anti-Christian hate crimes in Turkey have doubled) 2. Generations with Kevin Swanson

(John 8:2-11) The passage we have in front of us is so precious and we should do everything to focus our minds and our hearts to the word of God because it's pregnant with reason after reason why Jesus is the most perfect judge we are groaning for. And this is because as we will see—only in Him does justice and grace meet in sweet harmony. Jesus never makes mistakes, always makes the right decisions, always judges correctly, and always feels the right emotions at the right time. And because this is true, we should come to Him as our judge who not only defends us from condemnation but also fights for our vindication.

Paul is answering the question—Does grace encourage sin? He asks this because he can already foresee the temptation of grace being abused because of the Roman Christian's failure to understand that grace empowers the upholding of the law, not the dismantling of it. Paul's answer to this question is “no” and he uses the analogy of slave and master to communicate his reasoning. Grace does not encourage sin because God does not encourage sin. Grace does not make space for sin because God does not make space for sin. Under our old master sin was permitted and in fact encouraged but in light of our new master (God) righteousness and eternal life is the fruit of His lordship. This teaching will explore why God is a better master over our lives and how to live in light of His lordship.
In this message, Pastor Dré focuses on faith and justice. In Chapter 5 of the Book of James, we see that James offers a prophetic lament that gives a warning to the rich oppressors and hope for the marginalized.
We have to participate in God's call to reach those who don't know him because He has beautifully hidden them for them to be found. The only way they will be found is if his people go looking for them.

“Anger is not the problem; it tells us something is wrong under the emotional, spiritual, or relational hood of our lives. We use anger to express our hurt or frustration, and to protect and preserve ourselves.” - @andrejosiah In week seven of our sermon series, The Freedom You Long For, Pastor Andre shared about Anger and Patience. A common fallacy in our approach to anger is thinking that we should never ever be angry as Christians, and that it is an emotion that we should repress. Yet, to be human is to feel, just as Jesus Himself felt the full extent of human emotions. While the feelings of anger are not a sin, what we do with anger can become dysfunctional and destructive. Where then can we take our anger? When we go to God in repentance, He restores us, and we can seek His strength for divine patience as we abide in His love. As we go about the week, may we seek God's grace for the areas of unresolved anger and bitterness in our lives, and trust that He can transform us as we surrender to Him.

The main theme that is being highlighted here is God's unrelenting commitment to His people—that once you are His, you are forever His and there's nothing you can do that will make Him let go of you. We're going to read this passage together and I pray that as you read along you feel just how much God is committed to His people. The 3 points that will help us see just how vast God's covenant faithfulness is: (1)The reach of God's covenant faithfulness; (2)Our response to God's covenant faithfulness; and (3)Life in light of God's covenant faithfulness.

If the main point of chapter 3 is to trust in God as He leads us into the deepest waters, the main point for us in chapter 4 is to never forget who He is and what He did for us when we find ourselves in the middle of the deepest waters.Chapter 4 is one of the most important chapters in this book because it so clearly teaches us where our focus and gaze should be. This passage commands us to fix our eyes on Jesus and to remember what He did because if we do, the promise is that we will experience this life very differently. We will be able to experience life and all of its trials with poise, with humility, and with confidence that God loves us and that He's with us.

When it comes to the practice of faith and living it out every day, there is nothing more practical than community because that's always the application of Scripture. When we become Christians, we're not only saved by Jesus personally but we're also saved into His community. We're not only adopted by God as our Father, but we're also adopted into His family. Our salvation is a communal one not a private one. And we see in scripture that if we want a faith that is “great” or can withstand suffering, loss, and whatever else the brokenness of this world throws at us, we're going to need help. We not only need the Spirit of God to sustain us through challenging moments but we also need the people of God—God's very hands and feet to carry us through it. And this is what we see in Luke 24:13-35.
The only time in the 4 Gospels we see Jesus' disciples ask Him to teach them something specific is found here and it's teach us how to pray. In all honesty, if I were one of these disciples prayer is not what I would ask to learn. I would ask teach us to preach. Teach us to start movements, teach us how to heal, teach us how to walk in God's power. It wouldn't have been prayer. But for the disciples to ask him of this meant that they saw how crucial prayer was to the life and ministry of Jesus. They saw firsthand that Jesus' intimacy with God and access to God's power flowed from his uninterrupted, intentional, and sweet prayer life. If Jesus' 1st century disciples knew they needed to learn how to pray, so we 21st century disciples need to learn too. Furthermore, if Jesus emphasizes that praying to His Father is vital for a thriving Christian life, so should we pray to our Father.
The source of true courage is found in the deep assurance that God is present and that He's mighty to save.
Confession is the spiritual practice that allows us to enter into the grace and mercy of God in such a way that we experience forgiveness and healing for the sins and sorrows of the past. This is Part 7 in our #lexiconoffaith summer series. The series examines 8 popular Bible words that many people have misunderstood or misused. In this message, New Life East Pastor Andre explores the meaning of the word, Confession.
What Romans 12:1-2 teaches us is that the kind of young adult God desires to form in this world are those who are committed to Christ, who resist conformity, and who are radically changed. These are the 3 traits I see our passage highlighting for what a godly young man and woman look like. They're committed, they resist conformity to this world, and they're changed by the Gospel.
