Sunday sermon from May 25th, 2025. Pastor Jeff continues our series in the book of John titled, "Jesus Changes Everything." This week's passage is found in John 5:1-18.
What if I told you the resurrection of Jesus isn't just something we celebrate—it's everything we stand on? In this episode of The Disciples Journal, I'm breaking down one of the most powerful lines of the gospel creed:“Three days later, He rose from the dead, proving He is the Son of God.” We'll look at why the resurrection is not just a comeback story—but confirmation that every claim Jesus made was true. I unpack what Scripture says in Romans 1:4 and 1 Corinthians 15:17, and why the resurrection isn't optional for our faith—it's foundational. But more than that, I share how the resurrection changes what's possible for us right now. Because He rose, you don't have to stay stuck in your guilt, shame, or spiritual death. There's new life available. Not just someday—today. This is the turning point of history… and the starting point of hope. Let's walk it out together. Learn more about your ad choices. What happens when the lies we've believed about ourselves collide with the truth of who God says we are? In this powerful episode, Megan Schimmel sits down with SeaJay, Erika, and Deborah to share her journey from questioning where she fit into God's story to embracing her identity in Him. Born with physical challenges, she once believed her struggles were the result of sin, but through God's radical pursuit of her, she discovered they were a reflection of His glory. Megan opens up about overcoming false identity, navigating hardship without bitterness, and leading the next generation with confidence. Her story is a powerful reminder that success isn't the absence of struggle but the decision to live authentically in God's truth. In today's episode, host Hunter invites us to journey through day 133 of our adventure in the Scriptures. We dive into the dramatic and moving stories of 2 Samuel chapters 21–23, witnessing the final days of King David, including the resolution of a long-standing famine, the tales of his mighty warriors, and David's heartfelt songs of praise to God. We also begin a new journey in the New Testament with 1 Thessalonians chapter 1, where Paul's words challenge and inspire us to see others through the lens of God's love. Hunter reflects on how an encounter with Jesus can transform our hearts and perspectives, encouraging us to embrace a love that reaches beyond our own borders and communities. Closing with thoughtful prayer and the Lord's Prayer, this episode is both a deep dive into Scripture and a gentle invitation to let God's joy and love shape our day. Stay tuned for encouragement, insight, and a reminder that you are truly loved—no doubt about it. TODAY'S DEVOTION: God's love changes everything—including how we see others. Here in 1 Thessalonians 1, Paul makes a remarkable declaration. He looks at this young, Gentile church in Thessalonica—people so different from him, people who didn't keep kosher or follow all the right traditions—and he says with conviction: “We know, dear brothers and sisters, that God loves you and has chosen you to be his own people.” For someone like Paul, who had grown up believing gentiles were outside the fold, excluded from God's love and promises, this was a radical shift. What happened? Paul had encountered Jesus. And when you meet Jesus, you begin to see people the way God sees them. That's what Jesus does: he changes how we see and love others. He broadens the boundaries of our hearts. Our natural tendency is to draw circles around those who look like us, those who think or act or believe like us. But when we encounter Christ, our eyes open to just how big God's love really is. Suddenly, we see neighbors, strangers, even those we once called outsiders, as loved and chosen—just as we are. Paul says, “now the word of the Lord is ringing out from you to people everywhere.” Transformation ignites a ripple effect. The Thessalonians, having received and experienced this all-inclusive love, became living messengers, carrying God's welcome everywhere they went. They became an example of what God's love can do in a community—and for the world. Let's make that our prayer and our posture: that the boundaries of God's love would expand in our own hearts, and that our encounter with Christ would cause us to see all people as loved and chosen. Let the word of the Lord ring out from us—our families, our churches, our very lives—declaring that God's invitation is for everyone. May every day be a day when our vision is shaped not by old ways of seeing, by fear or favoritism, but by the revolutionary grace that Jesus brings. That's a prayer I have for my own soul, for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son, and that's a prayer I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Loving God, you have knit us together in the body of Christ from every nation and tongue. Make us a vessel of your peace today. Where hatred stirs, let us bear your love. Where wounds run deep, let us be agents of pardon. Where fear grips hearts, may we speak faith. Where sorrow hangs heavy, may we carry joy. Teach us to listen more than we speak, to understand before we are understood, to love. For in surrender, we find abundance. In mercy, we discover grace. And in dying, we rise into your life. In the name of Jesus. Amen. And now as our Lord has taught us, we are bold to pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. Sunday, April 27, 2025 – Eastertide Series – Jesus Changes Everything Scripture: John 20:19-31
Jesus Changes Everything | Restored & Sent After the resurrection, Jesus didn't wait for the disciples to figure things out — He met them in the middle of their fear, behind locked doors, and changed everything. In John 20:19–23, we see the risen Jesus offer four things we all desperately need: His presence, His peace, His power, and His purpose. Because of His victory over the grave, we don't have to rely on our own strength to navigate life's fears and uncertainties. Jesus steps into our lives, breathes new life into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, and calls us to live boldly for Him. Key Insights: • Jesus meets us in our fear — not after we've fixed it • The peace Jesus gives is deeper than circumstances • Jesus offers what no one else can: peace, power, and purpose • Every believer is called and empowered to be sent • The resurrection isn't the end of the story — it's the beginning of new life Key Scripture: John 20 (https://www.bible.com/bible/111/JHN.20.NIV) This message invites us to open every closed-off place in our lives and trust Jesus to fill them with His freedom. His peace quiets our fears. His Spirit empowers us to live fully. His purpose gives meaning to every step we take. Wherever you are, Jesus is ready to meet you — and change everything. Between the crucifixion and Jesus' return to heaven, His followers experienced a whirlwind of emotion. From absolute heartbreak and fear to unspeakable joy. The fact that Jesus was alive and promised to return changed everything for His followers. It has the power to do that for us also. The question we must answer is, “Am I living today knowing that Jesus is alive and will return?”
We serve God best when we have more confidence in Him than the things that frighten us. In this sermon, Pastor Allen Jackson discusses the despair and hopelessness Jesus' friends experienced on Easter, how they overcame that discouragement—and how we can, too. Apostles Thomas and Peter both stumbled in their faith after years of walking with Jesus, but He didn't let them sit in their shame. Pastor Allen shows how Jesus took His friends' burdens and replaced them with hope and courage, and he invites us to the same relationship with our Savior. The Church in the earth needs to be reawakened to the holiness of God, and that begins with us deciding to honor Him with our lives. This Resurrection Sunday 2025 Pastor Greg shares a powerful message on how "Jesus Changes Everything."
There are many famous “stones” throughout Scripture. The stone tablets with the 10 Commandments written on them, the stone that slayed Goliath, and of course: The stone that was rolled away when Jesus resurrected from the grave! The stone wasn't rolled away so Jesus could get out, but that we might look in and see that the tomb was empty and our king was alive! There is another story of a woman caught in the act of adultery who was supposed to be killed by way of stoning. And before he rose from the dead, Jesus saved this woman's life in a picture of grace and mercy that is FOR YOU today!

The disciples scattered when Jesus was captured and crucified because they couldn't see Him for who He truly was in that moment. But God's purposes are always greater than our plans, and we too often lose sight of that when things go sideways. After the resurrection, the disciples couldn't believe their eyes when Jesus appeared to them alive. But when they saw the truth of what God had done—bringing Jesus back to life—it changed the trajectory of their lives and our world. God longs to restore the broken places in our lives, and it's in seeing Jesus that everything changes.
In this episode, Pastors Chad and Robert unpack the shocking beauty and depth of Jesus' death on the cross, revealing how it sits at the center of both God's justice and His love. From the symbolism in the Old Testament to the moment Jesus was crucified in our place, this conversation explores why the cross is more than a symbol—it's our salvation.Subscribe to receive our latest videos!Website: https://www.sunvalleycc.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sunvalleycc/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sunvalleycc/Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@sunvalleyccTo support Sun Valley and help us continue to reach people all around the world click here: https://www.sunvalleycc.com/givingGod loves you no matter who you are, what you've done, or what's been done to you. We may believe Jesus can change things. But we either get upset because we can't orchestrate things to make it happen, or get discouraged because it seems He's not doing what we expect. The truth is that everything changes when Jesus shows up! That beautiful moment when Jesus steps in is usually the beginning, and there's much transformation yet for us to experience. But there are elements we can embrace, places we can put ourselves, to make space for Jesus to do His transformative work. Dr. Carol talks about that in this episode, and introduces you to our Dr. Carol Ministries intensives/retreats, where in a small-group setting individuals can experience Jesus showing up in their story and changing everything. Sermon from March 9th about Jesus being proclaimed, accepted, and rejected.
Remember, daylight savings time begins this Sunday! Everything moves up an hour. When we last left Mark's gospel, Jesus had called Levi, the tax collector, to follow Him. Having left all behind, Levi held a banquet at which Jesus ate with many tax collectors and sinners, drawing the questions of the Pharisees. As we examine Mark 2:18-22, we again find Jesus questioned about this feast at Levi's house. Jesus is asked why the disciples of John the Baptist and the Pharisees' disciples fast while Jesus' disciples are feasting. Jesus does not condemn the practice of fasting as a spiritual discipline. Jesus himself fasted in the gospels. But Jesus answers by comparing Himself to a bridegroom at a wedding. His presence is a time for joy and celebration. Then, He gives two illustrations showing that the New Covenant Kingdom of God has not come as an addition or addendum to the traditions of Judaism. Jesus says no one sews a new patch on an old garment or puts new wine in old wineskins. Doing so would destroy both the old and the new. Jesus does not come as a helpful addition to an already religious life. He did not come to add an extra little benefit to our already put-together goals and aspirations. Christ comes as the bridegroom to transform the sinner's nature. He has come to make us new creatures, not to sprinkle some good theology and doctrine on our religious traditions. Sunday, we will examine what kind of fasting Jesus is being asked about and how his answer and illustration apply to us today. I. Jesus Is Questioned About Fasting (v. 18) II. Jesus Presence Is An Occasion For Joy (v. 19-20) III. Jesus is Not An Accessory To Life Or Religion (v. 21-22)
For decades, Stanley Hauerwas has been provoking Christians with his insistence that if they would only follow their Master, it would impact all areas of life, from the personal to the societal. In his new book, *Jesus Changes Everything*, his timely and prophetic voice speaks to another generation of followers of Jesus tired of religion as usual. On March 4, 2025, Stanley Hauerwas, Brian Zahnd, and Charles E. Moore had a conversation about what it means to be a disciple of Jesus today. The event was co-sponsored with the Anglican Episcopal House of Studies and Acts 2 At Duke. Get the book here: https://www.plough.com/en/topics/faith/bible-studies/jesus-changes-everything

From living a life of drug abuse, trafficking, and isolation, to a life of freedom, motherhood, and a getting a home with her family.Cassie's turnaround is MIRACULOUS, and we give glory to God for the victory she continues to experience.
Galatians 2:20 – “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.”1 Corinthians 6:17 – “But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 – This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”These verses, along with many others in the Bible, paint a part of the picture of what happens as a result of salvation. And if we're honest, I think it's a part of the picture we tend to look past. When we think about salvation, our minds typically go to the part that is easier to understand: we will not go to hell, we will go to heaven. “I go here, not there, I get that.” But the picture of salvation in Scripture is so, so much more rich than that. In fact, as the verses I just read highlight, salvation makes us a new creation – and not just that but it is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me. The Bible paints a truly beautiful picture of oneness – it often uses the terms “in Christ” or “in him” or “united with Christ.” And again, speaking from a place of honesty, this is something I hadn't spent too much time thinking about in my life – and I think many of us are this way. We move past it either as a truth that doesn't seem to pertinent to the way I live every day, or too complex that we just add it to the list of mysteries of the faith. In this series we will explore some of the mysteries of the faith we tend to move past. I want to name them, examine them from different perspectives, and talk about who these mysteries can actually have profound effects on how we approach our personal walk with Jesus. This first episode is on what it means to be in union with Christ. To help navigate us through this is Dr. Clive Bowsher. Dr. Bowsher is provost of Union School of Theology and author of the books Life in the Son and One: Being United to Jesus Changes Everything.Doable Discipleship is a Saddleback Church podcast produced and hosted by Jason Wieland.
