Using technology is great because it allows us to play super engaging games such as Kahoot or Blooket or Gimkit or Quizlet LIVE, however, there are SO MANY ways to utilize technology that go way beyond the games. Technology can help us differentiate instruction, scaffold material, and support all students. I have an assignment in Literature that requires the students to proofread a poorly written letter (roughly 50 mistakes) and make corrections. Thanks! Blake (Texas) -- Hey y'all, I'm a 1st-grade teacher in Texas and I listen to GTT on my way to work all the time. Then, I run in my classroom and write down the ideas you have sparked so that I can try them. One of the ideas is to use slides as kind of an "auto-pilot" for a day when I may need a sub. I have 2 large screens in my room and the idea was to make a slide deck that would walk them through the day. (I've even considered uploading videos of myself teaching the lesson and explaining. Phonics, for example, is a difficult lesson to teach as a sub.) So, the sub walks in and opens the slide deck at 8am. and the slides have instructions/video/example ... the students do the work... and then the slide changes to a yellow background when there are 5 minutes left, then to the next thing on the agenda. Yea, sounds like a neat thing to try to me too. But I can't use a slide deck because I can't set different times for the auto advance. That was a long way to ask if you know of a way to set different times for each slide. I know I could use another presentation app but we live on the G suite at my school so sharing would be easier if I could find a work around on slides. Thanks guys. Y'all are awesome! I'm off to drink my sweet tea before the fun times get back from P.E. Make it into a video with Screencastify and advance as you’d like? Then play the video? I was exposed to Kahoot a few years back. I loved it immediately. It's been a huge hit at our school. Unfortunately, there can be too much of a good thing. Many of our kids are tired of Kahoot. Kahoot also has foundational flaws. Invariably, there are students who emerge as virtually unbeatable in Kahoot. Guessing quickly in Kahoot also can pay huge dividends, so many kids mindlessly respond without investing much thought. I still like Kahoot...but I was thrilled to find an alternative. And here, dear reader, is where Quizlet Live makes a dramatic entrance. I became exposed to this wonderful platform a few months ago. I knew instantly that it was a massive upgrade from Kahoot. Quizlet Live creates a beautiful competition between randomly selected teams of students. On your SmartBoard, students monitor a fascinating horse race unfold. Your students will be enthralled!I have a wonderful guest to help tell the story of Quizlet Live. Jennifer Ladd is an elementary teacher at Scotch Elementary in suburban Detroit. Jennifer and I got to know one another through interacting during a Twitter chat. From the moment we started interacting, I knew she had the potential to be a marvelous guest. I was not disappointed!
San Francisco-based EdTech company, Quizlet is the largest user-generated online learning platform in the U.S. Every month, over 20 million active learners from 130 countries practice and master more than 200 million study sets of content on every conceivable subject and topic. Their mission is simple: To help people practice and master whatever they are learning. Quizlet provides engaging, customizable activities with contributions from people everywhere. Many of Quizlet’s most popular features have stemmed from hackathons – including Quizlet Live (a collaborative learning game), Quizlet Flashcard Themes and the scan feature, which makes it easy to create flashcard sets from printed worksheets – the company closes down the last two weeks of December so its employees can work on personal projects from home. A sort of informal hackathon! I chat to Quizlet CEO Matt Glotzbach about why hackathons have become a Silicon Valley staple, and how employees from all departments at Quizlet (not just tech!) have contributed to products that have been released to users.
