This episode is brought to you by Snorkl. As educators, we want students to express and explain their thinking. We want to hear their thoughts on a science question, a story, or a math problem. But listening to each student one-on-one is nearly impossible. Snorkl lets students record their thinking with a virtual whiteboard and uses AI for immediate, personalized feedback. This works for any question at any grade level. Teachers get an immediate summary of student progress. Check out Snorkl.app for an incredible deal for schools to pilot it this year. In this episode, I chat with conference planners, presenters, and participants of the TCEA Area 20 EdTech Conference that took place on Saturday October 5th, 2024 at the Northside Activity Center in San Antonio, Texas. This was the inaugural conference and one that pulled in sponsors including MagicSchool AI, MergeEDU, Canva, Diffit, Adobe, Seesaw, Swivl, Screencastify, Curipod, Padlet, and Purple Up USA. There were sessions that covered a wide variety of content areas, ability levels, and strategies. I had the pleasure of being on the planning committee, being a presenter, and being the Keynote Speaker at this event. I ask fellow planners, presenters, and conference attendees the same question: “How would you sum up this conference in one sentence?” And that is what I did on location. This episode is a collection of these responses stitched together. So if you are interested in planning a conference, take a listen to the responses. If you're going to be attending a conference soon, take a listen to prep yourself. If you have attended a conference in the past, ask yourself if you've answered like these individuals have while attending one. Make sure you share this episode with a friends and colleagues and as always, Buen Provecho! This week, we present Chris's interview with Brian Schobel, a District Resource Teacher for Transition in Albuquerque, NM. Brian has worked for years supporting transition and employment for people with special needs. Brian reached out to interview Chris about inclusion and how technology can help students of different abilities gain meaningful employment. During the interview, Brian and Chris discuss assistive technology tools that can be used to support students as they transition to employment, as well as areas where we can improve in our support. Brian also shares about using Read & Write by TextHelp himself at work, and why being an assistive technology user inspires Brian to support others who use assistive technology.    Before the interview, Rachel and Chris have an actual in-person banter session at an airport in Minnesota! Rachel and Chris were recently presenting at the PATINS Access to Education conference in Indiana, and they jumped at the opportunity to record a podcast banter while waiting for their next flight. Rachel had two presentations at the PATINS conference. The first presentation was with Elisa Wern and covered using screen recording tools to support students. Elisa compared the tools Screencastify, Screencast-o-matic , and Loom, while Rachel discussed how she uses screen recording for asynchronous learning and coaching. Rachel's second presentation was about on taking a team-based approach to AAC assessment through an abbreviated version of her AAC Ally course (https://rachelmadelslp.thinkific.com/courses/AAC-ally). Chris presented four time at PATINS, including presentations on inclusive coding for robots, ways to enhance AAC implementation, and combining core words with morphemes (e.g. “corephemes”). Chris also did a Wonderfully Inclusive Scavenger Hunt and ran a session where they played Cards against Exclusivity at the conference.   Key ideas this week:

Welcome back to GotTechED the podcast this is Episode #89 called “4 Project Ideas for the New School Year”. In this episode we'll talk about some of the inspiration we've gotten from this past year and how that has shaped the development of 4 project ideas that we want to work on over the summer. This is another episode you don't want to miss. Check it out. Segment 1: IntroGuise: We've had our intro to summer break, ready to get started working again? We've put together an episode focused on projects that we will be developing over the summer. Hopefully 1-2 appeal to you as well. Segment 2: Projects We Want to MakeProject 1:Studying with Augmented Reality  https://www.3dbear.io/ (3DBear app) - Students use the 3D Bear app to turn our classroom into a virtual chemistry museum. Different students are assigned various elements, substances, historical events involving chemistry, applications of chemistry in real life. They create that “room” of the museum and share with the rest of the class. Maybe record the museum tour and post on Flipgrid. Free version allows use of pre-made 3d models. Can import their own too if they know how Honorable mentions https://www.experiencerealhistory.com/ (Experience Real History) app https://worldbrush.net/ (World Brush) app - World Brush is an AR experience where users can paint on the world for others to discover. Every painting is anonymous and only visible where it was created. Users have the ability to like, dislike and report paintings which helps hide the bad stuff and showcase the good stuff for others. https://www.curiscope.com/ (Curioscope) app - Our first product, the Virtuali-Tee, is an Augmented Reality T-Shirt. Point our free app (on iOS & Android) at the 100% cotton supersoft tee and watch it bring the Science of Anatomy to life. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/catchy-words-ar/id1266039244?mt=8 (Catchy Words AR) app - Meet a new word game made specifically with augmented reality in mind! Immersive experience without touching the screen. Just walk around, catch the letters with your device and solve the word! ear teachers and parents, you asked, we listened. Finally, we've added possibility to create your own word list and solve either one word or entire list in series. Project 2: Student GIF creation to Illustrate a Concept  Students create gifs as visualizations of various processes or skills. They can create in google slides, stop-motion style, or draw and write live as a screencasting tool records what they are doing. Those videos are then turned into gifs and added to an online chemistry gif library that is available to the world. Screencastify can download video as gifs Lots of great apps do this too like Gif Maker for iPhone Project 3: Guise's Unboxing vocabulary/topics through narrative Project 4: More gamification through video (The Phrase Game) 3 rounds 1st word or phrase 1st guess 2nd word or phrase 2nd guess 3rd word or phrase Final Guess Expand on this as a review game each student records a video and pauses after each word or phrase. Give students 15 minutes to complete the class For the remaining time allow students to review the guesses in groups to see how each guess could have been correct or why they are wrong.
