Video discussions are a valuable tool, whether you'll have access to Flip or not and this episode will teach you about them! This is another episode you don't want to miss, check it out!Segment 1: Narrative: I recently had a teacher ask “what do you recommend we use in place of Flipgrid next year? Flip, formerly Flipgrid is going away …kind ofVideo discussions is a weird segment of edtech because it doesn't really exist outside of Flip (flipgrid)Replacers are tough because there really aren't any competitors for Flip that do this exact thing.Segment 2: Replacer options:Padlet: Popular interactive learning space. Detailed description: To start posting, double-click anywhere on the board. You can then drag and drop files, paste files, or use the Save As bookmark with Padlet mini. Alternatively, click the plus icon in the lower right corner to add content. You can upload images, videos, audio files, links, or documents. Padlet can be used in many ways, from a brainstorming board to a live question bank, limited only by your imagination. You can even make it collaborative, allowing your students to expand and enhance it with their creativity. Once you're ready, hit publish to share your Padlet. It can be integrated with apps like Google Classroom and various LMS options. Additionally, Padlet can be embedded on blogs or school websites.Canva Presentations and video insert. Tell Ss to click Upload and Record Yourself so they can insert their own video. Use the other presentation space for comments and discussion. We discuss the stark differences between the Industrial Revolution beliefs and 21st-century beliefs regarding education, and raise questions about how grading methods should shift in light of these changes. We particularly focus on the harm that a heavy focus on extrinsic motivation can cause and the negative implications of traditional grading practices on the trust and relationship between teachers and students. Furthermore, we scrutinize how grades have become a commodity leading to competition rather than collaboration and debate whether traditional grading serves the purpose of preparing students for post-secondary education or not. May is one of those months that is long and fast at the same time. Somehow everything falls into this month as a teacher and in our personal life.As the school year is nearing its end, there are a lot of moving parts for us teachers to consider. From grading, to paperwork, to somehow engaging the students who are seeming to get a bit antsy.It is easy to get lost in all of it, so in this episode I want to share a few ways that can make those last few weeks of school meaningful. Three months ago I told my 15-year-old son that we were going to dive in headfirst into Metaverse Marketing. His answer: “So lame…the Metaverse has been around forever. What do you think Minecraft and Fortnite are?”  Me: “Ah! But we've figured out an entire list of business applications using this technology and we have assembled a freakin' amazing team to create customized branded spaces.” Then, my son smiled (gotcha, papito!) Here's the inside scoop. In this episode of I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY I talk to Marcos Navas, Founder of Hands On Coding – and now my business partner in the tech realm. We were introduced by one of his relatives, my dear longtime friend Emma Medina who I know from way back when I worked in publishing. THANK YOU, EMMA! Navas has been an active member of the Ed Tech space for over two decades. As an advocate for raising the voice of students, he is one of the original Flipgrid ambassadors and a Ted Ed Innovative Educator helping spread student Ted Talks via Ted Clubs. Within the coding and STEM space, Navas is one of the original Raspberry Pi Certified Educators in the U.S. helping enable people of all ages to explore computing. He completed a fellowship with the IDEO Teachers Guild making him one of ten educational experts trained in Design Thinking. He also founded Ed CampUrban, a free professional development program for urban educators/teachers implemented by teachers, and Latinos in Coding, a nonprofit whose mission is to increase awareness and participation of the Hispanic community in computer sciences to remedy the equity gap of Latinos in STEM. Listen, this guy is on a serious mission to transform educational environments to give access to and teach underserved children about technology as early as possible. Navas and I quickly began collaborating because we understood the value we each brought to the table. And I became an investor and partner in his business, experiencing a new, scary, and exciting role.
