In Episode 245, I sit down with James Merrick for round two! It's been nearly 200 episodes since our last conversation, and there's a lot to catch up on. James, a former Ranger Medic, shares his experiences serving in the Regiment during combat deployments. From there, we dive into the struggles he faced after leaving the military—a downward spiral of addiction and crime that nearly consumed him. But through resilience and faith, James fought his way out of that dark place. Today, he's thriving as a firefighter and has built a strong relationship with God over the past few years. I always appreciate reconnecting with my brothers, especially when their journeys have taken such powerful turns. I hope you enjoy Episode 245 of the Endless Endeavor Podcast! Medic. That word will always hold a special place in my heart. I have had a medic at my hip for most of the last ten years in uniform. I did not go anywhere without my medic. I can hear myself now. Doc! Where's Doc?! Get Doc up here! Have you seen Doc? On the podcast today, I once again have a medic on my hip, which brings a smile to my face. Zach Conaway is one of the most genuine people you will ever meet. Be careful if you ask for his opinion Zach will tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. His candidness is one of the qualities that make him a great medic. Zach has been a medic for all of his military career and is a good one. Medics are special people. They train their whole career honing medical skills they hope never to use. Nothing grabs the attention of people like hearing the call “get the medic up here, now.” Zach and his medic brethren are the best at what they do, and I would trust them with the life of my wife and kids. I am proud to call Zach “Doc” Conaway a friend

Jacob Bowman joins the podcast today for a chat about his time as a Ranger Medic with 2nd Ranger Battalion, the challenges of post-service and the connection back to life that Ayahuasca gave to him.  Not only is Jacob a Veteran, but he is also a Veteran Business Owner. He developed a CBD balm that jump started “Buzzed Bee Balm” with his Mother and a buddy he served with. The Lemon Grass balm is as solid as they come, I’d try that one. A few years ago, Jacob was invited to go down to Medellin, Columbia to take part in an Ayahuasca Ceremony through the non-profit “Heroic Hearts Project”. The scholarships that Heroic Hearts Project provides allow Veterans to go down and participate in the ceremonies. These retreats are not just thrown together, they are vetted by the CEO/Founder and others to insure the safety of the Veterans being sent down. Make sure to check out their website and if you’re a Veteran that thinks this is for them, reach out to them and start the process. Best of Luck! Once again, psychedelics are not a joke or a game. Serious advances in Veterans and others lives are being made by their usage. Get informed and support the advances of healing the souls and minds of those that stood shoulder-to-shoulder with us. Everyone is different, that knowledge leads to different forms of treatment to get them back to living amazing lives. Everyone Stay Safe & Blessed!   HOV©2021

Perry “DOC” Black was born and raised in the great state of Louisiana in 1965.  In 1983, two weeks after graduating high school, he left for his first tour in the Army.  Perry hated the Army life and left the Army 3 ½ years later and became a steel fabricator in Louisville KY.  After working for 5 years as a civilian, after losing his job due to involvement with union organizing.  He then spent the next six months partying and one morning he woke up staring at the ceiling and decided to return to the Army.  Perry decided he wanted to be an Airborne Ranger and was lucky enough to get a Ranger contract.  Ironically enough, Perry had never heard of the 75th Ranger Regiment and was unaware of the destiny awaiting him in becoming such an influential member of the Regiment. His career as a Ranger started when he arrived in 3/75th in July of 91.  He is a combat veteran of the Battle of Mogadishu, Somalia in 93, which is the inspiration for the famous book “Black Hawk Down”, written by author Mark Bowden, and movie directed by Ridley Scott.  Doc served in 3/75th, from 91-97.  He then went to Task Force 160, where he worked as a Special Operations Flight Medic from 97-99.  He returned to his beloved Ranger Regiment, at 1/75th, from 99-01 as BN Senior Medic.  He was then selected to be the Joint Special Operations Medic Course, Ranger Liaison.  He served as Trauma instructor and later became the first Ranger NCOIC of the Special Operations Combat Medic Course and retired from active duty in 2007.  Some of his awards and decorations include the Bronze Star with Valor 3-Oct 1993, MSM x 6, numerous ARCOM's and AAM's, EFMB, CFMB, Ranger Tab and Aviation Crewmember Wings.  His military courses and certifications include the US Army Ranger School, SERE-C, JSOMTC, Jumpmaster, NREMT-P, Scout Swimmer, JOTC, PLDC, BNCOC and ANCOC.
